[Q] Network Operator Selection - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Captivate 2.2 JI6.
I am not able to select the network operator. When I go to Settings -> Wireless and Network -> Mobile Networks -> Network operators, the only thing I see in the Available networks is 'Default Setup', that too disabled.
I do not see the manual/automation network selection options. Am I missing some setting?

Upping it.

did you create the APN settings?
it doesn't get sent, it doesn't program itself automatically
you need to make it yourself
Yeah I got the settings as a configuration message and it installed the vodafone settings but it won't show the upload download arrows anymore.

here is one easy way to confirm if the settings work
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8124344&postcount=45
install the APN on/off switch
then set it to ON, tried turning it off/on/off/on see if it works
you can also try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=789039&highlight=*#0011#
it should show if you are connected or not to any of those bands
thanks for the help allgamer, im using sgs tools and im in phone info it says gprs service disconnected, so i press left soft key and get option to enable data connection but when i press it nothing happens?
p.s i tried the apn on off app and it did nothing

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=789039&highlight=*#0011#

what does it say, what information?
hi there. anyone successfully fixed this? for two days now I cannot get any 3g signal. it just stopped working at some point. thinking it must've been an app or something, i did a complete reflash of the XWJPA firmware. that unfortunately did not help at all.
apn is CORRECT, data network is enabled, no 3g....
edit: btw, this is on 3 network in reading, uk.
edit 2: disregard my post, the problem was the borked sim card. all is well now.

[Q] unlocked, force network selection ?

I have a rooted, unlocked and sideloading enabled Captivate (JH7, same issue with JF6 before).
When I insert a T-Mobile USA SIM card, the phone stays forever (= more then 60 seconds) on no network[past boot animation]. Usually I get impatient (after about 15 seconds) and then manually select the network under settings, then I get a GSM/EDGE connection.
With my AT&T SIM it takes about 5-15 sec until I get a 3G connection[past boot animation].
Is this behavior normal or are there certain applications or scripts trying to prevent access or hindering access to other carriers ?
Also , with the T-Mobile SIM, under
{wireless and network->mobile networks->network operators}
I can actually make selections (automatic and manual), with the AT&T SIM this field is grayed out and just says "default". Is there a way to enable the menu so I can select between automatic and manual ?
I face the same problem. Does anyone can help me?
The problem is solved. Thanks to all.
How did you solved that kind of a problem? Flashed to i9000-based rom?
How did you solve it ?
Besides flashing to a custom rom, lol......
I am talking about/interested in stock ROM not a custom/community rom.
why not rom from i9000?

This is for me who came back from Dubai and found my stupid captivate would not connect back to AT&T network.
I could not change the network as default setup was greyed out and phone gave continued warning could not connect to etisalat ( dubai provider).
I found out through a lot of hard searching that I needed to use samservmode then
DEBUG SCREEN > PHONE CONTROL > NETWORK CONTROL -> PLMN AUTO/MANUAL set to AUTO
That fixed it and got me back on AT&T
But how to get back in Settings - Band mode? WCDMA/GSM GSM WCDMA?

Can you turn LTE off with *#*#4636*#*# menu?

Can someone test to see if this works on the AT&T Note 3? You dial *#*#4636*#*# and then you can change the network mode. I am just curious if it sticks. For example, if you tap on WCDMA/GSM auto, you'll only get 2G/H+.
Would appreciate it if someone can test this out. Thanks

I don't think that dialer menu is available in touchwiz. You should have the option of changing your preferred network type from the settings menu though

It is. It's not available on non tw roms. AT&T takes out the network mode option in the settings.

I think that's backwards. I've always had that accessibility on my nexus devices but I've never seen it mentioned for a TW ROM.

Yea the menu is there here's a pic of the options for the AT&T note 3. I use it frequently while at work and set mine to lte only so I'm not bugged with phone calls but still have internet and text. It stays active until you turn off data, turn on airplane mode, reset the phone, or switch it back via that menu. There is also a wcdma preferred option at the top that wouldn't fit in the picture. Enjoy

Unable to get LTE after Un-rooting
Sorry if this does not appear to belong here, but since I have un-rooted my AT&T Galaxy Note 3 (N900A) using the Root de la Vega One-Click with N900AUCUBMI9 I have note been able to get LTE back. My device defaults to HSPA/HSPA+. After using #*#*4636#*#* in Testing Menu -> Device Information, I cannot even change the preferred network type to anything that contains LTE in it - only GSM or WCDMA preferred is accepted.
I would appreciate any help whatsoever.
Thank you in advance

Try booting the phone without your SIM. Might let you do it. If not your going to have to redo Odin back to stock again.

If your provider enables lte for you and your device supports it, you're ready to go.
Settings > Wireless & networks > More > Mobile Networks > Network Mode
Mines on 3 UK, but it's unbranded and unlocked.
3 have said that they will send out an ota update to enable 4G on their handsets.
There are a few cities already enabled, so if you can get somewhere that's already on, you might be able to test your handset.

Need some help with my MotoX - Not registering on my network

Hi Everyone,
I got me a used MotoX, a customized version with a back cover and a badgers logo (go badgers!)
Anyway, it worked fine in the US on At&t, it worked fine in Europe, but now i'm in Israel and i can't get it to work on my network. I tried to put in a friend's SIM from another network and it worked just fine, it's just my company's SIM that does not work -> the SIM is recognized, the device is looking for a signal but fails, and tells me that "No Service | Selected network (GOLAN T) unavailable"
My device is an xt1053
The network is Golan Telecom - (google that for the wikipedia page, xda wouldn't let me post the link cuz i'm a n00b)
I have no idea what could be done, i don't even know where to start looking up this problem, or what should i even be looking for...
Any sort of information that might be remotely helpful would be appreciated!
thanks in advance..

Thanks a lot mate, i did try that. Nothing.
Do you reckon it might be related to the rom installed? i mean, is there a chance that it would work if i install a custom rom?
It's also possible your network might be blocking the phone's IMEI and/or your SIM. Check your sim with another phone. If sim works then check with your network provider on the status the IMEI (and ask them to unblock it if it is indeed blocked by accident).
You can get the number in settings -> About phone -> Status or you can just dial *#06#
