I'm sure this has been answered many times, but I can't find it.
What is the difference between 2.2 and 2.2.1?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Just some basic improvements
The only difference I know of is the battery icon issue on 2.2.1. The battery will show 100% while charging, but will drop immediately to 98% when unplugged. So 98% is 100% for 2.2.1.
Is there any compelling reason to use 2.2.1 over 2.2?

No. I have been on both and I am not sure there is a big difference although most roms are using jpy which Is 2.2.1
I think there are some base Android fixes in 2.2.1 as well since 2.2.1 is an official Android release.

I'm using JPK firmware on my phone and I intend to install a lagfix to make it run more smoothly (currently it lags so much) but I don't know what kind of lagfix that I should choose. I see many people choose OneClickLagFix.
For anyone who is using this one, do you feel it improve performance on your phone? Is it safe to update to official Froyo from this lagfix?
Thank you so much.

I am using jpk at the moment with ryans oclf and i find the phone near faultless. I can get through the day with moderate use, email checking every 30mins and still have over 70% battery. Only other thing i have done is install k9 mail as the standard one really sucks. I really dont see how the offical update is going to be much better than this.

Can any tell me whether there are any noticeable differences in terms of speed and functionality between these there variations of 2.2.1? Im happy with my current jpy rom and would only be interested in switching if id see noticeable performance increases. Would it be incorrect to say that assuming I use the same jpx kernel for each rom version the performance differences would be negligible?

For speeds its about the kernel. So if you had the same kernel on all those roms, the speeds should be about the same. There are always variables though so usually they are not exactly the same. Stick with JPY its the best IMO lol.

Ok. Running stock Cognition 4.1.1. The KB1 modem is da s**t on my particular phone/network. Added 2 bars to reception, dl increased ten percent, gps takes 25 sec or so to lock, but tracking is perfect and accuracy consistent 16 ft (in a thunderstorm!)
Question is what other kernels and/or roms are FULLY compatible with this modem, and specifically are there any compatible kernels that allow the sound control portion of voodoo app to function??
Thanks in advance and especially thnx to ALL the devs for their more than awesome work.

Voodoo sound works on this...
Thanks for pointing me to the right thread. After reading that the kb1 source finally dropped and designgears is hard at work again, maybe I'll wait and see what's up with sound in cog 4.2 when it drops. Anyway, whatever I decide this is just the info I wanted. Thanks again!!!

No problem at all, glad I could help.

Hi all,
Any logical reason why Froyo would be smoother, faster, etc, than gingerbread on my particular hero.
I have tried most if not all the variations. Fresh installs, etc.
Currently using AOSP Froyo.
Not a big deal, just curious that's all.

I think it has to do with the gingerbread builds not including as many graphics and general performance tweaks as the final froyo builds. I think devs are still working on overall stability first. Once it's stable I think we'll start seeing performance get better.
Aosp froyo probably ran the best on my phone to date. I'm currently using CM7 and am enjoying it, but have had a few minor issues; blank black screen coming up, though not lately, market issues and my battery life doesn't seem as good as it was on aosp froyo. Aside from that it really does run well. CM recently released CM7.02 which I put on my phone this morning. I haven't been using it long enough to notice any difference. My wife's phone still has aosp froyo on it and I may or may not update it to gingerbread.

Thanks, I was just wondering if many other people were seeing this.
Can't really see that GB has any significant advantage on the hardware limited hero. Although, it is fun to run something that was never ment to run on our phones.

So, I've been pretty much off the forums and updating my software for a good year now. I'm still on 2.2 JPP and using Doc's ROM. Has there been any improvement to the GPS since then? Or any other improvements that are upgrade worthy? My GPS is still taking at least 5 minutes to actually locate where I am..:/
My phones needs 10 seconds, them I can use the navigation without any problems. But I didn't have any problems with Froyo too.
