Has anyone got the full body shield for your X1? Just I think the X1 is quite a stretchable phone compares to many others I have used, so am thinking of buying a full body shield, good idea? What do you used to protect your X1?

One of the things that distingiush the X1 from other smartphones is beautiful, original design combined with a solid, lasting structure - at least that's what I've experienced so far . So putting it in some kind of bodyshield would be kinda like hiding a piece of art in a safe just cause it's valuable - it misses the point completely.
That's just my opinion though.
EDIT: I just use a screen protection myself, but different from Invisible Shield - it's made of polycarbonate and honestly it workes great for me.

I'm thinking of those plastic/rubbery shields with designs for additional protection. and it will hide those unslightly marks. Do you think its worth it? anyone tried it? Saw a store offering it for $35-40, they'll be the one to fit it in
I tried a variety of 2-piece protectors, hard plastic, silicone, thicker flexible plastic... I wouldn't bother. The silicone ones would come apart as the phone came out of the pocket, the hard plastic felt ugly (& didn't protect much - if the phone fell, the pieces would pop off with the impact)
So, don't go there... use a clear screen protector, NOT a Zagg-style one, though the Zagg body is a good idea. With hindsight, I would have used a body shield like that.
There are cheaper alternatives to Zagg, but check build quality first

Unfortunately, I did not protect my X1 as I should have. Ordered a genuine leather pouch, but no screen protector. Ordered a black housing, but I really dont trust myself opening it. Opening a cell phone compared to a PSP to change the housing is quite different..
I got one of those cheap "netbook protectors" ($2) from a local store. Cut it out to shape for the battery cover which is pretty much what is scratch prone for my phone. By the way, my phone is originally black but it the paint is scratched I decided to remove all of them. I used a dish scouring pad (the plastic one NOT steel wool or something) to slowly scrape off the paint without removing the XPERIA print Now it's gunmetal colored + glossy because of the transparent "skin".

I've tried em all. True. Those two piece units, whether silicon or plastic make the phone too bulky and don't stay on worth a damn. I switched to adhesive skins to protect the casing from scratches to increase resale value. It is pretty much always in a leather pouch or in a holder on my dashboard when using as GPS. (Also good protection: a large rottweiler.)
Where to buy an X1 Screen Protector? I don't see it in Phone Stores too bad.

you should be able to get one in any mobile accessory shop. however, if you are worried if the sensitivity of your touch screen will be affected, head down to a sony ericsson dealer and they should be able to hook you up with a decent one.
in fairness, 2 years with the phone, ive never used a screen protector, and used daily...and i dont hv a scratch on my screen, despite hundreds of drops on everything from tarred roads to timber floor. however a couple dollars wouldnt hurt ur pocket if u wanna get one.

Two parts to this question-
1st part kind of a poll. Who thinks it is necessary or helpful to put a screen protector on the T-Mo HD2, and why?
Of course I want to protect the screen on my HD2, as much as possible. I think the screen is already scratch resistant, and I am not sure if a screen protector would add anything in that regard. I don't see how a screen protector could possibly protect against breakage, or internal LCD damage.
I have seen some reports, of screen sensitivity being diminished by screen protectors.
Of course the companies that make them, will try to sell people on it. That is called "manufactured demand", creating a need that isn't there.
Your opinion? Do they really help protect the phone?
I am about to purchase some items from Amazon. I see they have one screen protector (manufacturer Amzer) for $6.95 with free shipping (if total order is more than $25, which mine is). I haven't heard of that company before, but it sounds good from the description (no user reviews). (It even says "anti-reflective" and "free from fingerprints", and those are two problems the screen has--fingerprint magnet, and very reflective. Don't know if those claims are true though.) Has anyone tried this brand? Any good?

Are there really any differences in these? They are only tiny pieces of plastic. Seems like they should cost less than a buck, not $10 or $15, as some do.

Still undecided though--whether there is any point in getting a screen protector at all, or just one of those "manufactured demand" products, that really doesn't help anything.

Between this forum and the official T-Mobile forum on their website, I'm seeing quite a few instances of shattered LCD screens from people dropping their HD2s. You'll also see that there are now many replacement screens showing up on eBay, for example. My point is that you might consider acquiring more than just a screen protector for your HD2.
I personally purchased an Otterbox Defender case for my HD2. It has a built-in screen protector as one of its layers of protection, and the multi-part case appears to thoroughly protect the phone (including from my 7 year old). There are lots of cases out there, so I'm not actually suggesting that you get one from Otterbox (and I don't work for them). Some people say, for example, the the Defender case is overkill, and makes the phone too bulky for their taste.
I'm just saying that a $100 to $300 phone might warrant more than a screen protector.

Most things break when you drop them... it's called gravity. There's no solution for clumsiness you'll have to get something like the otterbox for some gravity proof protection. I've considered getting the otterbox myself but it takes away so much of the aesthetics of the phone....
My HD2 has a screen protector and a well padded leather case.... i've been doing this for all my previous phones. Sure i've had some slips and tumbles but the leather case protects most the impacts no problems.

Seriously, one would think that they might have strong enough materials available today, so that a phoine would not break if dropped.
But certainly--a screen protector would not protect one iota against dropping!
What exactly, does a screen protector protect against?
Do you also put one on your laptop screen?
If scratches on the screen bother you, screen protector will help with preventing that. The HD2 is not as scratch resistance as some of the youtube videos lead you to believe. I am careful with mine and still manages to get some minor scratches on it. When it comes to preventing the phone from breaking during a drop, I think your best bet is a otterbox defender.
I put a screen protector on my HD2 I have no sensativity issues but the feel of the screen protector is obvious when you slide your finger on the screen. My wife does not have the screen protector and it feels smooth to the touch but there is no difference as far as sensativity goes I used a zagg invisible shiled.
No scratches on my screen eventhough I carry it with keys and coins in front pocket sometimes. Only cracked screen from dropping it! Getting Otterbox Commuter case for my new replacement HD2 but NO screen protector. This screen doesn't get scratched very easily at all.

I have one of the Invisible shield covers on mine & i like the feeling of knowing if the protector comes off ill get to see the screen BRAND NEW while i'm replacing the cover.
On an ass-backwards note, i also have the Body Glove case with the kickstand from T-Mobile and the only reason is for the kickstand. It feels like if i dropped the phone the case would shatter my phone would be goin to bed dead.
I am pretty careful with my stuff but as others have mentioned, theres no such thing as too much... im probably going to order that same black case though.
as for the screen, you never know... i'd rather be safe than sorry. I feel putting a $10 screen protector on a $500 phone isnt a big deal.

Well, materials like that do exist, ones that could make the phone near indestructable. Unfortunately, they're prohibitively bulky or expensive and would jack up the price and/or size of the phone. The treated glass used on the screen is the best attempt at a compromise on this that's really available.
I've honestly been using my HD2 since March with nothing but the rubber cover that HTC provided in the box, and I have yet to get a single scratch on it...but, I know I'm probably just fortunate with that. I have a screen protector on my TP2, and I know that it's definitely saved me from scratches on a number of occassions....but then again that screen isn't anywhere near as hard as the one on the HD2.
I've got an otterbox commuter series case on the way now, but I'll probably try it without the screen protector at first. I reeeeeally like the feel of the bare glass

Corning developed a glass many years ago that was dubbed "Gorilla glass" for its toughness and durability. I used to work summers for them, and at the time it was a nice invention that no one could find a use for -- we didn't have widescreen computer monitors or HDTVs, or cell phones, for that matter. Besides, it was considered expensive to manufacture. I read recently that Corning is now testing this old, very tough but thin glass for use in large TV screens and, soon, for cell phone screens. Maybe this will increase the durability of the touch screens for future phones. But for now, cases and screen protectors (should) rule the day.

Yes, actually Gorilla glass has already been used on a cellphone (or more than one perhaps), I belive the Motorola Droid was the first one. From what I understand, the HD2 doesn't have the acutal Gorilla Glass, but rather some similar hardness treatment.

Where did you find an Otterbox Commuter case to fit a TMO-US HTC HD2? I've checked on eBay and Amazon and they only have the Int'l version available.

And to add to the whole screen protector on mine. I never had one until I dropped it and it landed face down on a pile of small hard dry rocks. Then slid across the ground. It made two small but noticeable deep scratches.

I should have figured that. I'm just not a fan of paying retail. Otterbox sells their cases for 50% more than sites like Amazon, NewEgg, and eBay. Now that the U.S. version's supply is becoming more available my guess is that these places will begin selling the U.S. version as well.

When I was looking, I simply paid attention to the holes made for the light sensor and camera on the front. Found an inexpensive protector on Amazon that fit my criteria of quality workmanship in that regard and went for it.
I dug around on ebay for quite a while and it seems there are some nice ones available there also, but the better ones seem to ship from hong kong, which was an issue for me because I want mine protected from day one.
I just popped in to CPW and they now have the invi-sheild, However at £15 I will not be getting that one.
Gonna have a look around on play.com, amazon.co.uk and so on...
I just received the cheap silicon skin I ordered for my Galaxy Tab. It's just great for my usage pattern, it adds protection, grip, and doesn't increase the footprint of the tablet form factor. Back to topic:
The screen protector that came with the silicon skin (as part of a bundle) is really cheap, both in price and quality ! It arrived with marks on it, and it adds a foggy layer on top of the otherwise beautiful glass screen of the Tab.
Conclusion: in my opinion, and based on the glass technology used to manufacture the Tab display, a screen protector is totally unnecessary ! A much better use of money is to get a decent skin to protect the plastic parts of the tablet.

I gotta agree... Gorilla glass used in the Tab is supposed to be really hard to scratch... but if there is a good protector out there, I would use it anyway... but the back was what I was more afraid of. Being plastic and curved slightly, I foresee the back getting a large worn out mark in the center very easily. I would rather not use a Silicone case if I could, Hence the front and back protector set I posted in post 2.... or one of those other full body screen protectors...
For now, I am really careful how I lay down my Tab...

I actually never removed the factory transparent plastic sheet on the back, to protect the white shiny surface against scratches !
It is still there, even though I now use the silicon skin all the time. On the rare occasion when I remove the rubbery skin that protects against sharp knocks, the plastic cover is still there to avoid a bad accidental scratch.
As for the display, it is plenty strong enough, unlikely to be scratched by regular activities and associated risks (like keys in pocket, small bangs against furniture when carried in jacket sleeve, etc). The plastic body is likely to be the weak point in the device, not the tough glass.
mklass mentioned the Invisible Shield range of protectors.
I was wondering if anyone knew of any other brand that was as tough without having the same horrible tacky finish to it.
Don't buy the screen protector from Vikuiti Displayschutzfolie DQC160, because after that you can't use the buttons. There is no way!!!

I got the antiglare screen protector from tmobile when I bought mine.
It covers the whole front and had a cutout for the front facing camera.
Used modified Ipad screen protector for the front and maintained the sticky stock plastic for the back.

the skinit uses a 3m high end sticker i have one on my evo and i put that thing thru hell yeah the back is scratched but its the sticker not the phone

I picked up the Zagg full-body kit from my local Futureshop (big box retailer, owned by Best Buy). Was pricey at $39 CAD (a bit more than I'd pay after shipping from Zagg in the US).
I bought it for the back protection more than anything else, and more grip on the back. For that, it works great, there's a LOT of friction from this thing, to the point where it almost won't budge when I try to push it on a marble counter top. It's a bit more glossy than I'd like, hoping that fades once it fully dries.
After a few months with my Galaxy S, the only thing that looks worn is the plastic back, didn't want the same thing to happen to the Tab, which is much heavier and more likely to grind little bits of dirt into the plastic. Samsung knows glass, they don't do so well with picking quality plastics.
The screen protector sheet isn't going to be used at all, since I HATE the snatchy feel of InvisibleShield on a capacitive screen, and the little ripples that never go away, and this one is no different. Once again, after months of use, my Gorilla-glassed Galaxy S screen still looks like new, (as did my Milestone with the same type of glass), expect the same from the Tab.
Actually, I'm sure I will use the front protector...it'll be cut up and used to protect the back of something smaller.
Try Martin Fields. . . I have been using them for all my devices. Works great on the touchscreen of my HD2, iPod Touch 2g. . . No problem with the touch sensitivity, they are fantastically bright (not crap like invisible skin which turns yellow with age and starts peeling) and actually provides a better and smoother surface for the finger to glide on the touchscreen. Gonna order one for my brand new tab today (purchased tge tab only yesterday and immediatelly rooted it)B-)

I have the Zagg, and am happy with it. I had best buy install it, and had to go twice because the first time it sucked. The second was much better, and I am satisfied. The lifetime guarantee is a good thing.
I just ordered a Realook protector for my Tab as that's what I currently have on my Galaxy S and, aside from the slightly off-centre speaker hole (my fault), you can't even tell it's there. Pretty sturdy, too, the phone gets lots of pocket-time and it's not beat up at all.

I don't have a zagg shield on my nook yet (bought a screen protector at B&N when I bought the nook), but I have used zagg on every cell phone I've owned for the past few years. They are amazing! I will be putting one on the nc when the other one dies.
If you are debating, I would say do it! The zagg shield is a most superior product.
Phones tend to get dropped a lot more. When phones drop and hit pavement/ashphalt, the little granules can make pock mark holes in regular screen protectors. Zagg's survive this type of insult.
If you tend to drop your nook for some reason on a regular basis, I'd get a zagg. Otherwise monoprice sells cheap cheap protectors, we're talking 2 dollars. I usually buy a bulk order of cables and screen protectors/accessories.
They also have a bundled outlet with 2 usbs with 2 amp out. It's good stuff.
The cable that nook has is proprietary to some degree, I haven't seen monoprice make any of those yet.
In my experience, Zagg shields are very durable, but have an orange peel texture that I don't like. The B&N shield is much better visually. Don't know how durable. The B&N shield is harder than a Zagg, which equates to a smoother finger slide when compared to the Zagg's rubbery feel.

I have a Zagg screen and backplate cover with an otterbox case for maximum protection. They are easy to apply and I haven't noticed any loss of screen sensentivity. I would recommend the screen protector to anyone.

I got a Zagg for the Nook. It didn't seem to go on as well as the PhantomSkinz protector that I have on my phone. If I could go back in time, I'd go with PhantomSkinz again over the Zagg (not to mention that you get two PhantomSkinz for less than one Zagg). That said, I'm happy. When I look at my sleeping Nook, I see problems with the skin that bother me. But when I'm actually using it, I don't notice any of that.

I've used Zagg and BSE and BSE was just as good, if not better and much cheaper. Last time I ordered they gave 2 covers for the price of one in-case you mess up and I believe if you mess them both up they will send you another free of charge(I remember someone on a different forum saying that but I can't confirm).
I have a zagg shield. love it. only tip i can give is make sure to take your time putting it on. Worth the effort and time. Once on, you will think its part of the nook. texture isnt as smooth as glass though, but its all personal preference.
The Zagg shields are top notch for protection but can be a bit too "grippy" (if thats a word) for the nook. Just my opinion
I bought the ditztronic case a while back and have loved using it, but the only problem I have is that my skinomi screen protector peels up because of how close it is to the edge. Does anybody have a recommendation as to which screen protector to use with this case? I can't not have one haha
Zagg's case friendly screen protector. Not cheap but well worth it.
Supershieldz is cheap, and lasting. Haven't gotten a single scratch on it.
I used a Zagg on my old G2, it felt better but got scratched somehow; a nice clean line across the screen, felt like a waste of $25. Supershieldz is cheaper ($2-4 depending on site) and you get a 6 pack so you have more than enough replacements. But it is more tedious to put on than the Zagg, even though the latter uses liquid install.
I just put an Xtremeguards protector on mine and am relatively happy. It's got that slight rubbery feel to it because it's the wet apply type, but it goes edge to edge (and actually sticks down) and looks perfectly smooth.
If you don't mind wet apply protectors, it's worth a try, especially because you can get two of them for a whopping $1.40 with free shipping after coupon XTREME90:

Definitely do not get the dry apply one though...it's the plastic type and also goes edge to edge, but doesn't stick down. Mine peeled off within hours after catching on my pocket.

I have iloome FLEX, which is hard plastic that mimics conditions of tempered glass. It's not edge to edge, because it only folds one way, can't have edges "lift" the screen.
It is still holding on after a few months.
