It's beyond me why manufacturers go through so much work to customize the UI, when most users would actually be happier with a vanilla version of android. LG's implementation on Optimus 2X is a great example of third-party developers managing to cripple the speed of a otherwise amazing piece of hardware (launcher pro fixes most of this, but still)
It seems, however, that the G2X will be coming with a vanilla 2.2 - does anyone here know if this will be installable on the ordinary LG Optimus 2X (without 4G)?
Isn't the G2X just the LG 2x just rebranded for another carrier?

Not really. The hardware is the same (or at least as simmilar as the su660) but the G2X comes with vanilla android not the LG skin thing we have on the p990.
Well the LG 2x is about as Vanilla as you can go, when it comes to phones with a "measure" of maker branding. So its not like the 2x is THAT far away from a vanilla experience as I understand it.
(Disappointing!) US LG says 2X end up its life to 2.3.4!(US facebook)
How can LG treat its flagship product like this? even HTC Incredible S, single core, certainly get 4.0 upgrade, recent announce by HTC. 2X is a DualCore smartphone, hah??? no 4.0 ?? fuzzy.
In other word, black is also go to the end of its life by official 2.3.4. I can only say, never buy LG anymore.

Really disappointed. Almost all the other brands(HTC, Samsung, Moto) have announced that most of their android 2.3 smartphones will be upgradable to ICS.
If LG really not provide ICS for optimus black/2x, certainly no one would buy its products again
Agreed. Very disappointing. I love my optimus black but I hate LG now. If optimus black won't have been such an amazing good phone I would have sweared not to buy another LG product for sure.

LG Jordan - إل جي الأردن Hi Mohammad Abbadi ICS is the android version 2.4, it has been released very recently in the market and as of now its not clear if its going to be available for P970 and P920 ... there is only one model in the market that has ICS and its a Google product... as I informed you The Optimus Black will receive the gingerbread update and we will announce it on our page as soon as the update is ready for the end user... LG Jordan Team thank you for your continuous support to our products and hope you will always be a fan of our page.
I think they will giv 4.0 to ob/2x it will be late but we will hav it

Well, I think it's still too early to say. ICS has just been released only anyway, i guess it takes time to determine if it comes. Some people say it might come, some say it might not. Only time will tell. Though one thing's right though, updates are awfully slow. I don't know if the LG team is incompetent or just not dedicated, but the other manufacturers are doing a much better job :/
Ya same things happen when gb realesed many peoples said that gb required atleast 1ghz processor but thats all gone fake and i bet ics will come to all high end devices

what are you all dreaming???ICS on OB and/or 2x??? I am so sceptic about this!!
We have not yet gingerbread on OB, and you are looking forward to ICS??
HAHAHA!! LG treat customers as figures on income reports!!
If they (maybe) give us GB when ICS is out in the market, untill they will give us (or be ready to give us) ICS for OB, the phone will be replaced with another phone .....
I do not believe for a second that this OB will get ICS .. but I will have sold my first and most definately last LG phone before Gingerbread gets within a thousand miles of it. LG - you suck big time, please please go bust!

Thats why I sold my OB this week... I'll never trust in LG again.
I moved to an HTC HD2. I know its a quite "old" device, but I'm sure that I will have all updates from community, so its fine for me.
Next time, I'll never think in LG again. Simply, I'm too dissapointed with it, its a shame...
I suggest everyone lets them know what they think on twitter @LGElectronics
hmm honneslty the biggest reason I've bought an OB for, is the nova screen. I was even thinking about selling it for the OW. But, since some times going back to sony ericsson is on my mind (one of my previous phones was a W810i)
Okay no wonder they lost millions from last year. LG is really sucks!!!! Good hardware bad development, very bad to maintain their costumers.

IPS is very good and natural in color. But nova bright LEDs are just a gimmick. I compared nova and super amoled from nexus s with high brightness, okay p970 has the most brightness but.everthing washed out. Super amoled can keep black color in maximum brightness. But who uses max brightness???

LG ANNOUNCEMENT about Gingerbread update for Optimus serie
LG would like to express its sincere thanks to all of the Optimus Series owners who have been waiting patiently for the Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade. We are excited by the high level of product interest that LG Optimus Series owners have shown, and we are taking all possible measures to offer a smooth OS upgrade in a timely manner.
The three premium smartphones of the Optimus Series will be upgraded first, as outlined below, followed by a global rollout thereafter.
LG Optimus 2X: Now available (as of 1st November, 2011) for open models in Europe
LG Optimus 3D: Week commencing November 21st for open models in Europe
LG Optimus Black: Week commencing November 28th for open models in Europe
The exact timing of the upgrades in each market may vary because of the different requirements in each country with respect to domestic operators and models. Please contact local service representatives to check the specific upgrade schedule in your market.
Again, LG greatly appreciates the support and feedback that customers have given during the upgrade delay, and we will do our utmost to continually provide better service in the future.
Thank you very much.
Again, can't trust these LG people. No matter whatever happens, it's for sure that we wont get this thing.
Just call/email local LG support, and ask about update, because GT540 is in OPTIMUS serie. If say, no, we dont get official 2.3, ask why LG lie in press announcement. Please reply.
Hope out phone also will get this update
Edit : Mail Sent to LG Customer Care Post here once i get reply
Some folks here at XDA had mailed LG people a few days back regarding GB update. But neither of the replies were positive. Never mind, I've mailed them now, waiting for a reply.

Our phones should have been updated like a year ago with 2.3 and with .37 kernel, but LG Support is a piece of junk. I like LG phones but they f*ck their own reputation by doing this. (or by not doing anything.)

I emailed LG about 2 weeks ago, and you can guess the answer...
I think the ultimate solution is that all of us MUST become HARDCORE devs, so we can maintain our phones easily
i hope they update the kernel of our phone for better roms
I'm 100% sure, we wont receive update to 2.3
Theres GT540 and theres Optimus line, even if our phone called GT540 Optimus, i dosnt belong to Real optimus line, like GW620.
According to LG our phone specs are too low to even support Froyo.

According to LG, Optimus serie get Gingerbread update. GT540 is in that.
You people don't get the picture, do you? First off, yes, GT540 is part of the Optimus line - no problem there. However, in what universe does that mean LG's *bound* to update ALL the devices in the Optimus line? The GT540 is practically ancient with the amount of RAM it has, and we're talking about an operating system that has a requirement (in LG's words) of 1Ghz processor frequency(I strongly disagree). Read here. OK, yes, we've seen GB running on our platform fine and speedy, no argument there. But wait, there's more, and I'm probably saying this for the millionth time: LG would have hardly any or no profit from updating the GT540. This would make it buyable, and competitive on the market again, but wait.. see, the GT540 is a cheap handset, and updating it, that's right, would cost money. Also, shipping new units with GB... also costs money, and all that for what - a cheap(okay, "hardly profitable") phone that can also steal attention away from other handsets in the Optimus line(and not only). LG has already filled Swift's niche with the new Optimus Net, won't be such a good idea to draw attention from that now, right? The same goes for the Optimus Black, Optimus 3D, etc. It's simple when you think about it, so don't get all too excited y'all.
And? Your picture say, no optimus line GB update. New announce say, Optimus line GB update...
LG never released updates. This is a fact. Lg and Google promised to give updates for devices which good hardware.these are the optimus speed and black and 3d. Gt540 has bad hardware and LG wants to update the whole series of optimus devices? I don't believe that. But if they really do it would give us new dimensions of modding especially a new full working kernel is needed.. Let's hope even if its nearly impossible to believe

Im not so optimistic as you guys, im more like realistic about this whole thing... Just wait for response from costumer service, you will see it by yourself guys :/
This has been talked about like thausand times... Service guys said like million times, they will never gonna update gt540 to froyo or gb, due to its hardware limitations and becouse the phone is out of market long ago..
And im with GT540 pretty much from the very start... July 2010, i watched as the phone developing progressed, been on modaco forums when they opened thread about our phona was one of the first contributors named 'ilovelg' i think i made whole reference thread about rom flashing with kdz
By the way only High end devices were listed, too bad tho, couse most similar to our hardware phone LG Optimus P500 have Gingerbread for quite a long time already And our oldy dont even have a froyo, and never will, nor Gingerbread

Ok I have said this before and I don't mind getting banned for valgur language. If you check the LG site the gt540 can no longer be found there even in the optimus seris and older phones like cookie are still there(tells u something) next some time before September I sent my phone in for Warrenty cus the screen broke. When I collected the phone and asked them if they still sold extra battery's they said no as they stopped making parts for my phone.(tells u something again) well I am lucky I managed tobuy one in the end at the LG HQ in Singapore and they said it'd was the last one.... so u know what ?? F*Ck LG f*ck LG devs f*ck the company_|_ I'll never buy from them again
Next stop HTC when I need a new phone
I'm agree with nutterbg, there is no significant advantage for LQ by updating our device.
LQ will gain more profit if GT540 users retire their phones and buy the new 'LG' ones. The same thing or at least close is happened to Samsung Galaxy Spica. Samsung released new models instead of providing further updates for Spica.

OMG! they are not selling GT540's anymore?
WTF? how am i supposed to get my warranty then?
pay me by cash or something??
if im not wrong they said end of production line or something like that Anyway my warrenty ran out long ago but i made good use of it sent in two times
Mine's under warranty until Oct 12, 2012. Let's see how they'll fix it if it gets f*cked up before then.
I read on other forums that the developers who work for XDA and have worked for the Optimus 2X have not yet decided to buy the Optimus 4X.
I'm quite sad to have read this, I am convinced that a device like this has the right to have a community that we work on it.
I certainly hope that is not overshadowed unlike the SGS3 and the X One, excellent devices in my opinion, although this time with LG Optimus has really done a good job and would be a shame not to maximize its potential!
Given a chance even to this little trinket to compete with others!
I agree, the 4X is a huge step from the 2X, everything i didn't like about the 2X has been improved in the 4X like the size and weight of the phone, the o2x is too big and heavy for a 4", now the 4X is perfect for the 4,7" screen, louder speaker, the only thing i think is a step down from the 2X is the MHL-HDMI, i'd rather have HDMI port like the 2X has.
For the reasons above i will buy a 4X later this year, because LG has changed for the better IMO.
Come on guys! Make your voice heard!

strength we need answers! Think you also that our Optimus 4X has the right to have a guide to the Root, Basebands, ROMs, etc..?
Or would you prefer to use this fantastic product as LG has done it?
Instead of opening thousands of posts where we praise and adore this device, we respond to one and we feel our voices to the community.
the x4 is definitely the finest and better choice compared to s3/one X - Straße we need a new root

Korean OEM's work on updating its lineup to Android 4.4. According to our tipster, many of LG's devices will be going straight to Android 4.4, skipping right over Android 4.2 and Android 4.3 in most cases. Among the models cited by our source are the LG Optimus F3, LG Optimus F6, LG G Pad 8.3 (including Verizon model), LG G Pro Lite, LG Optimus F7, LG-D315 (unannounced), LG LS740 (rumored to be the successor to the LG Optimus F3), LG Optimus L9 II, LG Optimus Vu II, LG Vu III, and the curvy LG G Flex.
If this information pans out, LG has really been working hard, bringing all of these models to Android 4.4. Our tipster made it clear that LG is not bothering with Android 4.3 for any of its devices. He also wanted to point out that the LG Optimus 4X HD will be sticking at Android 4.1.2. That is a model that is powered by the NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor.

Actually, we kinda do
Well, not the ROM/system itself, but its blobs
The older blobs get, the harder it is to get newer Android versions working, as the old blobs lack some functions or are having some other integration problems.
We already are lucky having 4.4 running on our device, but I can, and will, not guarantee that we will be able to have Android 5 running as a daily driver. However, we are very lucky that grouper and the x3 are that similar, so we can use grouper blobs. So all we can do is to hope for grouper to be officially supported as long as possible
