LG just officially announced version 3.0 of its custom interface, which it is now calling 'Optimus UI'. The updated skin aims to be "unobtrusive and simple" according the LG, as well as bring a handful of new features to LG's handsets:
The ability to unlock the phone by dragging anywhere on the screen
A new Pattern Lock that allows users to preset the most frequently used function, such as the camera, which automatically opens once the phone is unlocked
A simpler version of Optimus UI 3.0 for new smartphone users which organizes the main applications so that they are the easiest to access
A new Voice Shutter that allows users to capture photos using only voice commands
A special camera feature that enables users to pick up the best shot among multiple images including the moment just before the shutter button is depressed
An Icon Customizer that provides an additional level of personalization by allowing users to set their own photos as icons and shortcut images
The addition of a Download category to the menu for easier organization
According to LG Mobile CEO Jong-seok Park, the updated UI is a push to set LG apart from other manufacturers, as "both carriers and customers tell [us] that they want LG phones to look and feel unique and the UI plays a big part in that" (even though it still look remarkably like Samsung's TouchWiz UI).
The first smartphones to see this updated version of Optimus UI are the Optimus LTE II, which comes out this week in Korea, followed but the Optimus 4X HD, which should be available in June.

Phone makers spend way too much time making silly UIs. They should spend their time making great looking phones (hire a decent designer) with great hardware. Have their devs make a simple and functional version of the stock android, and then let independant devs do the rest. Most people don't buy the phone because of the UI overlay, and they are all fairly similar anyway.

It's so nice to feel the LG cares about software too Even though I agree with what has been said above, that the indie devs do a great job and manufacturers could just choose to let the software up to the indies, as a buyer I must say it does bring me some joy the thought of oficial goodies coming my way.
Even though I might not use it... but at least it will be something that the indies might re(use) in their fantastic works.

As far as I know, no Tegra 2 phone has an official ICS ROM, even an early leaked build. So I think nvidia has as much to blame as the manufacturers.
Yet I have an incredibly fast version on ics on my tegra2 tablet. That alone tells me its not the hardware issues that manufacturers are touting as the reason ics is questionable on the Tegra systems. I think once an Indie dev shows its possible your just making yourself look foolish, or simply incapable, by standing your ground.

LG, please, stop making interfaces and release tegra's drivers for ICS!!
I agree with you, but know I like this interface.

I start this thread because i am a bit frustrated about the low official support of lg to our optimus black and all the lg devices, so want to discuss with you about something.
I mean, if neither the cyanogenmod team is not yet able to give us a stable cm7 (i know there is a stable version, but we all know that there are still few bugs, i.e video recording), who is to blame? The LG company or maybe the Texas Instrument that doesn't release a proper full code (i.e the multimedia drivers for ics)? how is it possibile that the cyano team can't make the video recording work in a widespread platform like omap3 !?
What i'am trying to say is maybe not all the fault is ascribable to LGE, but maybe the all enviroment around the lg devices development.
What do you think?

No. It is due to LG's relatively small workforce. Look at Samsung's HQ And LG's HQ. Its like world's apart. And, the way LGE builds their products. Lastly, we have a relatively small CM group. So, compared to major companies, EG. HTC & Samsung, we are small.... so, you can expect updates every month or two. As we have low manpower.

For GB, it was LG's fault.
For ICS, we don't know about what LG has made for now, but TI doesn't help as they haven't finished OMAP3 3.0 Kernel.

Hey guy! look this https://twitter.com/LG_Mobile_ (Use Google traductor) they are always talking about ICS for our 2011 devices
They say many things about Optimus 3D and Optimus 2X and only a few things about our Optimus Black :/ hope the better.
They also tell something like the upgrade will be very soon and they tell us when.
Hello dears,
I write here for the first time in LG 4X forum and I don't want people those who already bought this device to misunderstand me please
the device is really equipped with the latest and fastest hardware at factories,
But..
LG as company is not new, it was (Gold Star) company and replaced the complete ID of the cheap company with Gold Star with LG as new brand.
and the new department decides to get the latest in the market and hit it with the newest electronic weapons as your 4X
I got a past trying with LG devices, with P990 and P999 (G2X) it was really perfect as hardware but as software, it is still with GB v2.3.5 as the final stock ROM from LG, start from v2.2
I don't why LG can't support her devices to the latest software at google android !!!
So the point that I want to reach here is:
Don't expect LG to support your device to the latest ROMs of android, it will stop at 4.1.1 or 4.2 and stop there then you will see the support from MIUI or CM team, but not LG and will face ton's of change log's and (what working) (what is not)
LG is good for short month's of usage but not for long time.
Hope LG support department read this thread and try to support the software teams in the future.
hope you got what I means
Regards

I disagree. It looks to me that LG won't even update our 4x to jelly bean.
Lg are bunch of noobs.
To lg - if you are planning to fight with the likes of Samsung/HTC - offer same type of service. Like Unlock tool for the bootloader. Or unlocked boot loader from factory. At least that way we can make our own way into future updates...
I hate myself for buying a lg! Wasn't even aware of locked boot loader. Next time I will sniff around1000 times before deciding to buy a lg.
How many updates to the firmware has there been since the phone was released? And where are the fix lists?

Fixes are fine by my book, ICS is already a very good platform to use. Sure, JB brings more improvements but it is game changing compared to GB to ICS.
Can you show me the fix list? I've searched a lot on google but no one seems to have it..
Perhaps we can hope that lg will upgrade the 4x hd directly to Key Lime, if the rumors about a sonn-to-come Optimus Nexus are true...

1. LG Optimus Nexus is not a rumor, but true
2. Yeah, maybe they're working about something (i'm f*ckin optimistic)
Although, LG's software support is crap, i'd still choose their Hardware over HTC's. And, just being chose by Google as the manufacturer for their new flagship device...LG will hopefully get more love by devs. The Optimus 4x HD is a true beast, it's a shame that LG won't unleash its true capabilities. I've been contemplating in whether to get an O4x HD (price is soooo cheap) or just wait for the LG Nexus G (which is most likely what im guna do). Either way, my next phone will be an LG. For some reason, i've becomed very bored with Samsungs, especially with my S3.
LG is going to make a conference on 24-25 oct, hope we'll get some infos about updates

LG need to much time, they will update.
So we always had a competitor - HTC One X. HTC released official Android 4.2.2 update with updated Sense 5.0 UI. What we will get? Nothing. Thank you LG once again. Last LG phone ever for me. Optimus 4X HD old phone? What about One X?
I knew from the beginning that LG sucks on supporting because I already bought the LG 2x in the past, poorly supported device but, the great performance and build quality brings me back to LG, ginger bread on LG 2x worked spool great and lagless that I was amazed every time I use the phone, now on my 4x I 100 Times more amazed, LG stock roms are almost perfect, y can get 10 hours of battery and only train by 8% and that's great, also the materials used on the phone are great and the performance is very cool, kicking the ass of the galaxy for example, on antutu we get like 1000 points more on cpu and floating cpu point that galaxy s3 and with a custom kernel a modifying the stock gpu frequency we can get a little more score on gpu too... so, there's it nothing that we can do in 4.2.2 that we cannot do in 4.1.2...

for stock android, not much difference. but for lg ui, i would love the new camera interface from 4.2 in optimus g2, and all the new features from the new lg ui version. we seems to forgot that a new android version from the manufacturers is not at all the same as android update, 4.1-4.2 doesn't bring much on the stock version, but for the manufacturers update, there will be a lot of new things. you might call it gimmick features, but that is based on YOUR preferences.
see for yourself what the new version of LG interface will bring. I WANT THAT.. i don't care about the new lockscreen or the multiuser that stock android 4.2 brings.

My point of this post starts at 1:24
when you see others have, you want it too, even if you are in a different situation. If that thing didn't exist in the first place, you wouldn't think of making a noise to have it.
that video remember me to my dogs... my two dogs was the best friends, one was a aleman pastor, and the other was a rottweiler, both played togeter since kids, one day my mom bought the rottweiler a chain, after that the pastor was angry with the rottweiler... extrange? yes... and the rottweiler used to walk slower in front of the pastor like showing his new chain, that makes the pastor more and more anger... the problem was ended when i bought the same chain to the pastor too... Best friends again...

Korean OEM's work on updating its lineup to Android 4.4. According to our tipster, many of LG's devices will be going straight to Android 4.4, skipping right over Android 4.2 and Android 4.3 in most cases. Among the models cited by our source are the LG Optimus F3, LG Optimus F6, LG G Pad 8.3 (including Verizon model), LG G Pro Lite, LG Optimus F7, LG-D315 (unannounced), LG LS740 (rumored to be the successor to the LG Optimus F3), LG Optimus L9 II, LG Optimus Vu II, LG Vu III, and the curvy LG G Flex.
If this information pans out, LG has really been working hard, bringing all of these models to Android 4.4. Our tipster made it clear that LG is not bothering with Android 4.3 for any of its devices. He also wanted to point out that the LG Optimus 4X HD will be sticking at Android 4.1.2. That is a model that is powered by the NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor.

Actually, we kinda do
Well, not the ROM/system itself, but its blobs
The older blobs get, the harder it is to get newer Android versions working, as the old blobs lack some functions or are having some other integration problems.
We already are lucky having 4.4 running on our device, but I can, and will, not guarantee that we will be able to have Android 5 running as a daily driver. However, we are very lucky that grouper and the x3 are that similar, so we can use grouper blobs. So all we can do is to hope for grouper to be officially supported as long as possible
