Exchange Email question - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, maybe I am just missing something but here goes,
Right now I am using MM's Desire mix ROM and came from Rod's MIUI. The main reason I switched was that I can get Exchange to sync and push email from school on MMs but not Rod's. The thing with MIUI is that on the exchange setup screen when you click the button to manually set up the account, it does not have a separate box for your user name and email address like the one from the Desire ROM. I have a weird exchange account at school where my user name is not the same as the name in my email address. Therefore I have never been able to successfully sign in to exchange from any of the mobile programs that did not offer this distinction like the Desire ROM does. I was wondering if anyone else was in the same boat I am and if/how they got theirs to work with the MIUI ROM exchange app.

Hotmail Syncing

Sorry if this has been addressed already, but I thought it relevant so I'm posting it here. I've always used just my GMail account with the native app and it's worked fine so I never really bothered with my Hotmail account since it's only POP mail and I feel that having it poll my Inbox every 15mins drains the battery heavily. But I read this morning that they've just started rolling out the new Windows Live Hotmail Wave 4 today, which includes Exchange ActiveSync support for Push email and Account syncing for Calendar and Contacts.
As it's being rolled out in clusters, my account hasn't been upgraded yet. But I decided to try to set up my account to Push anyways and it seems like it's working fine.
If you want to do the same in the Stock Email App, Add a New Account. Then input your Email Address and Password then hit the Manual Setup button and Select Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and use these settings:
Domain\Username: \username@hotmail.com
Password: password
Server: m.hotmail.com
Use Secure Connection (SSL): Yes
Accept all SSL Certificates: No
hit Next, then make sure the Email Check Frequency is set to Automatic (Push) and then just set your other sync options. (I've only synced mail since my contacts and calendar are synced with GMail).
I'm sure some things will change when my account actually gets the upgrade, but for now, it's basically all I need.
Full Disclosure: I'm on 2.2 and using the stock Email App for this. I don't know how this will impact 2.1 or if you're using K9 or Touchdown, etc. so feel free to post you results.
Just tried your settings with the 2.1 email app and it's no go.
Just tested...
...and it works! Running 2.2 (FRF50).
Even though I rarely use it and that it's mostly used for pretty useless mail it's still nice that it works, finally.

Using stock 2.1 update 1, it works except there's no calendar option(should only available in 2.2), but the server is not very stable, need a few more retry to connect
Must be why it failed then.
2.2 you can add with out having to change any settings.
Do you know the setting to use in any other apps? The stock mail app doesnt allow showing html pictures, so i'd prefer to use k-9 or touchdown...
THANKS!!

Worked for me on 2.1 email app. Now, how do I get a widget to show me the unread count?
Finally MS do something useful to their antiquated service!
Tried it, but doesn't work (yet)
Do you get an e-mail when your account is upgraded?
Guess that is cool if it works, but you can only have 1 Exchange Activesync account on any device...that includes iPhone, WinMo etc...
Has this stopped working for anyone? I'm just getting 'unable to connect to server' now.
Same here, getting the "Unable to open connection to server."-message now.
The wierd thing is that yesterday I got the little yellow bar up top in Hotmail telling me to restart the browser to try the new version (which is what actually got me to try this) but nothing really changed, rollback?

Technically true, but two Push accounts can be accomplished on both Android & WinMo(windows live + exchange)
For us with X10's who are stuck with version 1.6 of Android,
What are the settings to get this working in K9? Has anyone successfully got it working with that mail prog?
Thanks!
Still not working here. Go Microsoft

[Q] Hotmail HTML email via exchange on FROYO 2.2x ?

My first post. So Exciting
Has anyone who is running FROYO on their Captivate setup their Hotmail (or MSN or Live) email account through the exchange server settings (I think it's called a "Corporate" account in the new acccounts setup menu)? If so, are you receiving HTML email?
A few months ago, Hotmail began offering Exchange email services through Activesync, and it does work with my bone stock Captivate (syncs email, all folders, contacts and calendar), except the email is not HTML, and thus many emails become useless. I have researched this, and its a known problem with Hotmail, but I also read that it was supposed to be resolved in newer software versions, so I wondered if HTML Hotmail email was working in beta FROYO?
yeah, i was wondering the same thing
Well, a quick google search turned up this post on the droidforums: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...mail-android-finally-good-way.html#post786175
I will follow the directions there and let you know how it goes. Hopefully it doesn't muck up my K9 settings. But that's what a backup is for!
Edit: Looks like it does work. Now I don't use Hotmail as my main email, I use my Gmail account. So I don't really have any contacts or calenders to test if they synced or not. As for everything else, you have the green light sir.
Thank you miztaken for your help. The link you sent is actually not fully accurate, as Activsync support does work with Android 2.1 (as I am currently using it on my stock Captivate) - it is just that HTML email does not work on Android 2.1 , but everything else does (calendar & contacts sync and email folder support).
So, did you get Hotmail HTML email to work with Froyo (through Exchange/Activesync / Add Account, Corporate) ?
Well it would be nice if it worked in the stock email app, but it doesn't. Just a bunch of hyperlinks. I'll try it through the K9 email app I use and try again.
Edit: For the life of my I can't get the damn thing to talk to the SMTP server for Hotmail on K9. I'll mess with it some more when I get more free time.
I haven't been able to get exchange HTML hotmail ever on an android... used 3rd party apps and nothing. Quite frustrating... i'm running on 2.2 and it syncs everything but no HTML.
If using pop3 it works. Exchange is a no-go.
Yeah, exactly, POP delivers perfect HTLM Hotmail email, but once you get used to how incredible exchange email is, it's hard to go back to POP.
I guess based on what snieves said, HTML Hotmail is a no go even on Android 2.2, but for the sake of further annoying myself, I'll test it this weekend by flashing the latest COG 2.2 BETA8 to my Captivate, and I'll report back. Unfortunately, if I cant get it to work, I think I'll move on to a WIN 7 phone.

You would seriously switch to a different platform just because of email? Why? Just make a Gmail account, have your Hotmail forwarded to the Gmail, and set your phone up for that Gmail account. Then you have push email with HTML support.
It is a little bit long winded, but it's not worth the switch just for email.
Gmail sux, so outdated and just absolutely hate their web client. hotmail is way better, right click menus, reply button is right there, not at bottom of thread like crappy gmail. And whats up with no standard html email client in android. So hate how they lock **** down so you have to use their services. K9 sux also, POP and IMAP, come on. Someone please make a proper FREE email client for android that dose it all. Think im gona go back to windows mobile.
hi, no news?
BUMP
Why is this still not working. Gmail works, hotmail connects and sync's fine by doesn't load HTML via 'corporate' but POP does load them - there must be a simple explaination and fix???

My understanding is that it has to do with the Exchange ActiveSync servers used by Hotmail. The version 2.5 EAS servers that they use don't technically support HTML. So when Android sees that the version doesn't support HTML it downloads the emails as plain text. The post also said that the iPhone will download HTML messages from the Hotmail EAS servers because its email program was written to ignore the EAS version number and force HTML d/l. I read this several different places, but here is one of those sources....
http://thecioblog.info/2010/09/01/hotmail-now-has-push-e-mail-contacts-calendar-synchronization/
It appears that HTML e-mail is only possible via iPhone and will be available on Windows Phone 7. ....Hotmail’s Exchange ActiveSync implementation decided only to use the Exchange ActiveSync 2.5 (Exchange Server 2003 SP2) protocol because they feel that’s the protocol that “most” devices with Exchange ActiveSync clients use. ... For most non-iOS and WP7, you will not be able to receive “native” HTML email at delivery on your device. This is because EAS 2.5 only supports plain text email sync. They could’ve also implemented Exchange ActiveSync 12.0, which does allow for HTML email. Somehow, iOS’s developers have programmed their EAS client such that it represents faithful HTML email for Hotmail. Overall, though, this is Windows Live’s crow to eat...

Basically, to get HTML emails from Hotmail, either MS would have to upgrade their AES servers, or someone will have to figure out how Apple got the iOS email client to see Hotmail messages as HTML & duplicate it on Android.

Ok...so who is up for the challenge . I am currently trying out XDANDROID on my TP2 and am seriously considering making the switch as I am sure many are. This is a big draw back for those who have used WinMo for years and have everything tied into MS Live services.
Yes, I could make the big transition, but it just doesn't make sense that if iPhone can recieve HTML Hotmail via Exchange, no reason why Android can't.
Anyone know if it will be supported with Gingerbread?
give this a try. though it doesnt work for everyone it works for me. im the OP...

its the samsung social hub and email deodexed. works great with hotmail and msn messanger for me on firefly in canada where it originated.
MSN / Hotmail HTML Email Works via MS Exchange Activesync !
So I did get rid of the captivate long ago and went back to a BB 9700, than a 9780. I got the itch again and just bought a Samsung Infuse yesterday. It took 4 tries to get it working, but Finally, I can confirm for sure, that on a 100% stock AT&T Infuse, MSN / Hotmail via Microsoft Exchange Activesync does come through as HTML email. The email initially comes through as text, but there is a buton that says "Load More Details", and when you seect that button, it loads the HTML version (and on the huge Infuse screen, looks incredible).
I am guessing that the stock Samsung email app on the Infuse is used on most/all Samsung phones. Here is what I did:
Accounts and Sync
Add Account
[ ] Microsoft Exchange Activesync
Enter you email address
Enter your password
NEXT
Domain\Username: \[email protected] (just enter your email address @msn or @Hotmail and make sure to put the \ before your email address)
Password: re type your password. I tried several times and I was only able to finish the setup if i retyped my password on this screen
Exchange server: m.hotmail.com (works regardless if you are @msn or @hotmail)
Check the Use Secure Connection (SSL)
And on the next screen, just select the options that are important to you.
It works perfectly for me.

Wow sir. You are a god among men. This worked PERFECTLY for me just now. I finally can have ALL my email accounts on my phone finally.
Edit: Don't see the "Load More Details" button on the stock email app.
I have now tried several different ROMS on my Infuse, and all of the Email Apps are more or less the same, and when you open a email, a gray button appears at the bottom of the screen that says " Load more details ". I would have to think this is always there, becuase when setting up the email account in the first place, it asks you how much (2K, 5K, 20K, etc...) you want to download per email. I believe I set mine to 2K. Anyway, when I click the load more details button, the complete HTML email appears after a few seconds. Nice.
Try Exchange mail with HTML, In-line replies

Mail Client, which ROM

I am using Ev1ls 1.26 rom on Nexus One, had been using CM but moved for one reason. I need 'search' or at least order by (sender etc) in the Email client (not Gmail) as I am a heavy Exchange user.
Does anybody know what other ROM's have this in the default Email client or is it a feature of the HTC Sense email only right now?
I know I can add from Market TouchDown or equivalent but would rather not,
Thanks
PS Ev1l 'your the man' (or gal?)

[Q] Exchange ActiveSync issues?

Is anyone else here on 2.3.6 with their Note (Rooted and CWM Kernel also) having problems with Exchange email?
I use a hosted exchange provider for my email, and have seen this issue before with Samsung (and some HTC) devices where Exchange Activesync just doesn't seem to work. I had this issue before with an AT&T Galaxy Tab I had tried a different ROM on to enable the phone radio in the Tab. It would never sync email, but the stock ROM would.
I know the account was added to the Note correctly, because I didn't get any error messages during setup, and I also got the prompt to confirm the security configuration change (to allow remote wipe, etc). The device also shows up correctly in the mobile device listing in Outlook Web Access in my account.
Just wondered if anyone else had experienced this, and what you did to fix it? Not really interested in a 3rd-party mail client like Touchdown, etc. Would prefer to use native apps.
Thanks, please advise.

If you want it for gmail, try this.
Go to Email - entre gmail credential - select manual setup - select exchange active sync - keep user ID n PW as it is n add m.google.com in server field, finish setup with rest of as per your desire
Thanks, but I am not interested in Gmail. I have already added a secondary gmail account and it works just fine.
I am trying to get a true Exchange (Corporate, of sorts) email account working. It kinda acts like it wants to work (I am seeing some Exchange calendar entries) but no emails or contacts yet... <sigh>

Mine is working fine. It sync my email with the exchange server. Im using Rocket ROM.
Using exchange exclusively also (hosted server) never had a problem. I tried with stock, then 2 different cooked roms. All worked perfectly. Am on latest rocky now.
Sent from a biga$$ Galaxy Note using XDA premium
Exchange email pushed OK, but calendar push never
Outlook email is pushed correct, but calendar never. Which application do you use for view/sync exchange calendar ?

[Q] Exchange Email Device ID Change

Hello,
I am hoping someone can help me out. I have my work email setup on my phone using their webmail address. If I use the standard address, i am required to have Maas360 installed, which is not an option with me being rooted. Anyways, if I have the email program I use, which is either Nine or Mail Wise, setup for ActiveSync, my business server will catch it and block me. So, I have to setup the email app to scan for new emails every X minutes.
The problem I am running into, is I did not know that I had to have ActiveSync turned off, so now my device is banned when using Nine mail. So, I tried the same with Mail Wise, and got banned again. Now, on my third app, AquaMail, I have realized the problem, and its working great. However, I would prefer to use Nine mail. When trying to go back into Nine and recreate my account, i get an error that my device is blocked. I get the same error on Mail Wise. Both list a different Device ID. NineXXXXXXX and MailWiseXXXXXXXX. Is there a way to change this ID? I tried creating a new ID in Titanium Backup and that didn't change the IDs in the mail apps.
Thanks to anyone who can help!
