root already is available, amazing.
I will buy this phone if the bootloader is unlocked and when there is a good ROM to flash, hopefully this won't be longer than about a month because I really want this phone.

I'm waiting too, but I suspect that by the time this bootloader gets unlocked (if it ever happens), the Nexus Prime will be out, and will be awesome.

Just got mine this afternoon. Rooted & debloated, it's awesome. I never use stock tons, but in this case, it's not bad....
i got mine a few hours ago. i can't put it down. love browsing the web using firefox 4 in webtop. just need to grab a bluetooth mouse and keyboard. currently using the webtop adapter right now. the on screen keyboard is a tad slow, but won't be an issue with a real blue tooth keyboard. cant wait for devs to get ahold of this monster!
Car Dock Mode
I've been around smartphones a long time and have owned most of all types on the market. The Thunderbolt is a sweet phone with some of the new custom ROMs installed. Being the technology junky that I am I had to try out the Bionic. Nice. Smooth Smooth Smooth. I had to work at making the Thunderbolt what it should have been from HTC and Verizon, but the Bionic comes that way out of the box.
I travel a great deal, the Bionic is spot on in the car dock. I use Car Dock Ultra with Audible books, Google Nav, Google Places, etc etc. This phone does it all, no hesitation, no faults - it just works.
I rooted so I could use tether occasionally on the road but for now that is a no go. Still got my Bolt so I can still get it done.
Nice phone.

Personally, I would not upgrade to anything that has yet been announced as the dual core phones already hitting the market are soon to be leapfrogged by the quad-core Tegra & Qualcomm chips late this year / early next year.
The N1 is still an awesome device and still gets plenty of Google love as evident by the OTA to Gingerbread (though many were claiming abandonment due to the delay).

The next Nexus Phone, so probably when Android Ice Cream Sandwich comes out. It should be a better improvement from the N1 to the next Nexus than it was going to the Nexus S.
Keep the N1 for now until a much better device arrives especially if your T-Mobile usa. Consider the Atrix if on At&t...
I would suggest the next Nexus

I am hoping that the next Nexus blows us away and makes it worth buying a new phone when I don't need one. For now, I just can't justify it when the N1 it still so great. There's nothing out there that can really do anything that I can't do. Sure, turn maps with two fingers... but really, I don't need that. NFC, yeah, but it's not common enough to be worth it.

Its not a hacked Maps apk, but some changes to your system files that trick the system into thinking the N1 is a true multitouch device. You can either replace the files found in thread below or flash the zip in recovery depending on your comfort level.

The N1 has multitouch but doesn't do it well due to the crappy clearpad 2000 touch sensor used by HTC. The touch points will cross axis'. You will turn the map to the left and then it may turn right all of a sudden. Instead of enabling a half-assed map rotation, google disabled this feature on the N1. Personally, I have used this "hack" and had decent success YMMV.
If you do install this, remember to do it again after flashing different ROMS/Nightlies etc....
I hate hearing rumors, I really do. But I'm going to start one because mine has some merit to it. I have a friend of mine that works for Verizon. I told him I wouldn't state his name or what "department" he works in when I made this post. I was talking to him on the phone just about 45 minutes ago about the Revolution and how we're dying to get Gingerbread and how some people are actually getting rid of the Revo for fear that it will never get GB. Here's the conversation that took place.
Me: I just really wish we'd get it already. It would help out with development so much.
Him: Dude, whatever you do, don't get rid of your Revo.
Me: Haha, I'm not but why?
Him: You guys should be getting the soak test soon and as long as it goes good all Revos will have it by mid or late October.
Me: Don't bull**** me, how do you know?
Him: Trust me, it just came through an email 2 days ago. I meant to call you but I couldn't remember if you had actually bought the Revo or just waited for something different.
Me: Damn man that's awesome! You better not be bullshitting me.
Him: I'll put it this way, I put my paycheck on it.
Me: That's awesome man, hey can I tell people about our convo?
Him: I don't care, just don't use my name or where I work.
Me: Kinda HAVE to tell people where you work or I'll look like a retard hahaha.
Him: Oh ok but don't tell them what department I work in or anything. I already almost got fired a while back for putting out some info about the Bionic hahaha.
Me: Alright cool, hey thanks man. You have no idea how happy a lot of people are going to be when we get GB.
The rest of the convo was filled with nonsense talk about times past (and girls haha). Just thought I should share this info with you guys!
Loving this. I want GB!!!
I'm speechless
Thanks for the news.

a Soak Test is when the send out the update to a select few people and make sure that the update works in the real world with out breaking anything.

Soak testing is testing a system with a significant load over an extended period of time to discover how things act over a long period.
What he is saying is there are Revo's out there with 2.3.4 already installed on them. Verizon employees will carry and use a Revo on a daily basis with 2.3 loaded to see how it performs, what glitches arise etc...
If you play video games its kind of like an beta test only its not generally open to the public. During this time they also test the push out of the update to the phone to make sure everything will go smooth when they start pushing it to thousands at once.

Unfortunately he is in no position to get us a leak.
He works for tech support and received an email stating to be ready for possible high call volumes in about 2-3 weeks as the Gingerbread soak test begins for the LG Revolution. That was about all the email said.
Again though, this is in no way going to help us get a leak. Sorry guys.

Hmmm?
Might be worth having a stock phone if it got the OTA update with gingerbread in it.
Think i'm going to check out Revolt 1.4 tonight and go back to stock in the morning.
Please, any thoughts on this?

Not sure how lg does it but you can sign up for these soak test with motorola they will even send them out to a few people who have gotten root access and have gotten back to stock as close as possible without having root access. check the droid 3 forums they just either did one or just sent out the invite to join the soak test. 1. Dual Core future proof

Throwing more cores at a device does not necessarily increase performance, either, unless the application base and operating system takes full advantage of them for multi-threading.
Case in point: Most hard-core games on a PC that came out over the past 5 years will run the same, if not better on a single or dual core machine as they did on a quad core. What really makes the difference is architecture, clockspeed, application architecture, and most importantly (assuming the apps use it) GPU implementation!
Assuming all apps were hardware accelerated on an Android, you would care more about the GPU then you would the CPU. Being that a lot of apps are not hardware accelerated, or take advantage of aggressive multi-threading, you may actually see a performance drop on the Bionic depending on the implementation of the devices core implementation (much like the scores from the Atrix showed).
The hype of more cores = smoother experience is bunk. It's just a spec and numbers war. More cores = possibility of more apps running seamlessly at once, but only if the architecture is there to support it.

If you have 4G, that takes up a LOT of battery. You can go to Settings, Wireless Networks, Mobile Networks, Network mode.....then switch from CDMA/LTE to CDMA only.
CDMA = 3G
LTE = 4G
Thanks... I do live in orange county CA so there is ample 4g around me... perhaps I will keep that on but leave off the wifi if 4g proves to be fast enough.

There are some apps (I use TeamBlackHat) that have a "Remove Bloat" button that automatically removes all bloat apps.
So, as most of you know a root for the AHD came out yesterday. I wanted to say thank you to everyone that worked hours and hours on getting the root, even though Dan gets the money lol. But there are many new comers to android out there, including myself. Coming from the iphone I can tell you everything you can do once you jailbreak and iDevice, but what all have you guys done after you rooted your device. I have owned one android and played around for a while on many, but most of which were completely unlocked and had new roms installed ect. ect. So I thought it would be a good idea for people to be able to post what all they have used the root for so far, so maybe we can use those ideas and make this phone even more awesome.
The first thing I did do was calibrate my battery and have noticed a little bit better life today than I do most days.
I also uninstalled some of AT&T's annoying bloatware (which IMO belongs on NO phone)
So share what you did and give some ideas to all the readers!!!
Thanks again Dan for the root and I know Matt worked for hours and hours on it, so I would like to thank you too

Hi,
I was really hoping the rumors would have been true and the Nexus 7 2 would have been announced. I was ready to pre-order last week. That didn’t happen so I pulled the trigger on the current Nexus 7. While I'm disappointed that I didn't get to get the brand new one I am VERY happy with it so far. I also got the official Nexus dock and a keyboard case. I have to say the official dock is so great I may buy a 2nd one! It’s overpriced but soooo nice.
Anyway, one thing I want to do right away is be able to get and send SMS texts from my phone on my N7. I have a Droid Razr Maxx by the way. What is the best software to do this?
Is there a free way to turn on the wireless tether on my Razr so I can connect my N7 to it? I also play Ingress and it would be cool to be able to use the N7 for that.
I'm not ready to root and try a custom ROM yet but what are some of the "must have" apps for the N7? Any info would be great!
Thanks

Possibly, but being mad about not being able to buy something which doesn't even exist yet is a waste of time and energy

He didn't say he was mad. He was hoping for a new release, there wasn't so he just bought what was available now.

Save the disappointment for when the new version is actually released I guess
Current logic is flawed, that's all. I'll shut up now, carry on.
FWIW OP, I was expecting an updated OS, when that didn't happen I unlocked, rooted, and began flashing whatever I wanted

Exactly. I wasn't going to buy the current one until after the big Google announcement. That would just be dumb. But again, I love this device so lets stop talking about "what if" or "when it does come out"... I want to talk about the cool things this one can do.
:cyclops:
Since its brand new, i'd recommend unlocking and rooting right away, just to get that out of the way should you wish to flash stuff later. Better to do it early since unlocking wipes everything and there's little data to keep that early. Having said that, I just finally unlocked/rooted after months of ownership and replacing all the data was trivial. Just a recommendation.
It's a very capable tablet completely stock, I just like tweaking things and the tablet UI is cool IMO.
