i prefere SPEEDMOD KERNEL coz battery life is very good .VOODO KERNEL hve used it for long time battery draines very quick
Will be an interesting discussion, please proceed.
But hardcore will win this poll though, he puts out a lot more updates then SC.
I don't think voodoo does a great job, yet I never used speedmod... I use setirons cause of the high overclock.

I used Speedmod but without lagfix.. using lagfix with Speedmod, I experienced a lot of problem. EVERYTIME I disable lagfix it will always stuck. I'm using it coz of less battery drain.
But if I want to use lagfix i'll go to Voodoo. much more stable using lagfix.
I prefer the flames about gnome vs KDE, are much more funny.
really, in development??
speedmod +1
Why not Voodoo? because speedmod works for me... too lazy to move to Voodoo...
That's well said mate, we need try them & judge later

There is competition either way, whether or not we have this thread.
This thread might actually make them work even better. Dont see no problem in that.
From playing with both mods... they run at almost the same speed... voodoo might be a little bit faster...
Speedmod does have more configs tho... so i refuse to vote for just one.... i vote both! lol

We know very well both developers are working hard to improve their kernels. Hence, there is no need to have such a thread at all.
It is precisely everyone tastes are different, and more often than not, people will try to enforce their opinions on others, resulting in a hostile environment. It will degenerate into something that might even pisses the devs off, so to speak.
The best way of course is to try out what is being offered here, does it meet your own expectation or not.
Once you are happy with whatever you have, then stick with it, until perhaps something better comes along the way.
Don't you agree?

YES indeed I do....
I don't see how asking people's opinion on two products would cause a problem.
As far as pissing someone off, I think that when someone creates something that is made public, they should accept all comments on that product, good or bad. If they do not want to hear anything bad about their product, don't make it public.
Besides, constructive criticism is good for competition.

I'm fairly new to all this droid stuff and been learning all kinds of stuff from this forum. I have one big question and that is what is the difference between JF6 compared to JH2/JH3? My captivate has JF6 and I've seen the firmware updates for the others. Is there any major improvements or am I better off sticking with what I have?
I think JH3 is quicker and seems a bit more stable, its also newer.
One thing to watch out for is the logging that comes with JH2/3. There are some easy remedies to fix it though.
Im currently using JH3 matched with unhelpful's 1.2 Kernel v1.1 and SRE1.0 My phone is performing the best it ever has.

how is your battery performance now with jh3.
the gps on jf6 for me is amazing i've only used it twice but both times it was all good, very accurate on maps, so i hope its the same or better if it can get better.
Battery performace seems normal, maybe draws a bit quicker with the overclock.
GPS locks in 4 to 5 seconds. Then again i have some tweaks built in with SRE.

Hey everyone,
Seems Supercurio has finally got a beta of his true fix for the lag on Samsung Galaxy S phones. The github is below.
DO NOT FLASH ON A VIBRANT until there is a Vibrant version. This is posted so developers can take a look at the source code and start implementing it for the Vibrant.
http://github.com/voodoo-project/lagfix
Hopefully JAC can integrate this fix into his OC\Stock kernels, and we can enjoy our phones without the typical "galaxy s" lag/stuttering.
HUGE thanks to supercurio for all his hard work putting this together
EDIT: lol, guess he hasnt posted the source yet. the ramdisk is available in the download section.
Enjoy! Happy coding!

It will take up ALL of the 2GB /data partition lol. Mostly kidding....sort of. Actually, it will change the file system of /data to EXT4 so you can use all 2GBs as originally intended, and without lag. Best permanent fix for "galaxy S" lag.....(I think the term "lag fix" is now dead btw, it has lost all meaning besides "less lag than stock")

I don't believe anybody forgot about this, we are just patiently waiting for a final, safe version to be released. IIRC JAC was working on one but wanted to test it more. I'd rather have something take a while and be stable than have a phone that crashes or doesn't work right. Just be patient, it'll come.
I for one have not forgot about this at all, I was seriously waiting all day at work (slow day in the ITS dept. cause of the holiday) for it to come out. However I have overheard that they found some bugs, specifically dealing with flashing recovery back (correct me if I am wrong). This is the mod that I have really been anticipating, more so than almost any of then. But it will come out when it does. Next week I am going to buy some rum for eugene and jac for all their great work. But replacing rfs with ext is a huge step in the right direction and I am very excited to see the results and cannot wait to try it! It is the weekend though and they all have lives for this holiday, my phone is already rocking enough socks, I can wait a bit for a stable mod, and prefer to at that. I believe this mod will be one of the more significant that has been created so far instead of the virtual ext or external ext (currently running ext4 to my class 6 with jac's), not having to jury rig this stuff together anymore will be nice. Props to jac and eugene! (and anomalous3 too, don't know where I would be if I couldn't push apks from your deodexed rom)
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
And, it gets better. He seems to have found a way to correct the color by adjusting the overall color temp of the phone!!
I believe this will be implemented as well and hopefully ported over to the Vibrant. My two biggest gripes with this phone will be fixed in one fell swoop.
Here's the catch: Vibrant ROMs are so large. With that thought in mind, I was thinking about how small we could get a ROM. How about everybody gives it a shot?
ROM TO USE: Deodexed KB1 (EDT)
My take at it: KB1 (113,126 KB)
I think thats the main point of the Loki rom by Brick... I think its around 110MB... Don't remember if its based off of KB1 tho

Downloads- and I speak for a majority- aren't a hassle in terms of ROMs. The average user can download 200mbs in about 20 minutes. ROMs are less than that.
I hate when people enter threads like this and just quickly reply--what's the point.
When you get down to it, what is the point of having more then 1 alternative ROM. Isn't the whole idea of ROMing to customize, optimize and just plain have fun with an open platform?
So to all those that said, what's the point. The point of this is FOR FUN!

That was a joke. The point is, the base kernel image is a "rom". everything you add to that adds a little more functionality (starting with hardware). It's all a matter of what you can live without, and not everyone feels the same way. I think you'd have to spell out what you consider to be "minimum functionality."
Otherwise, if you don't want any apps, or for your phone to react in any way what-so-ever when you press buttons or touch the screen, I think I could make you something
im on 80 meg rom got slimmed from original loiki by bricked .
Just a quick stat: Less than 60% of the US has broadband, so a small ROM for those folks is probably welcome ;->
(And if they're in an area without broadband, do you really think they have solid 3G?)

What does OFFICIAL SUPPORT mean?
LEARN BY CLICKING
An Excerpt from that link above for the lazy ones:
An “official” CyanogenMod version is one that uses our code review system, our source repository, and our mirror network. It should look, act, and feel like CM on any other device, and more importantly, it should follow our release schedules (which is a “when it’s ready” kind of thing, but we do plan our final/RC releases when we feel it’s ready). Most importantly, no major hardware functionality should be broken.

So yeah, a fully functional (expect some bugs of course, initial release) Gingerbread built from AOSP AND injected with CM7 goodness.
Per the tweets, all hardware should work.
Nightly builds will be up on Rom Manager!!
I would also expect a ton of NEW roms to be based off CM7 and a ton of new themes...

What about GPS?
There have been reports of it working. We do not know this to be true though, and I do not mind that.
Expect for it not to work.... if it does, gravy boat!

@codeworkx
@dumdidum &
@guiperpt
THANK THEM for making the Galaxy line officially supported by CyanogenMod.
We owe these guys, big time.
HERE IS THEIR PAYPAL LINK
Also, @Koush (Rom Manager) has been doing a TON to get this up and running. Let him know you appreciate it.
You may not NEED it, but get the premium version of Rom Manager to show some support.
Now, go thank those guys...
EDIT 5/19/11 4:30
INITIAL INSTALL GUIDE
Perhaps there is an easier way, I did this while sitting at a copy machine bored AND it worked flawlessly for me.
Okay, I used this DOWNLOAD LINK (same as above)
moved it to internal sd after backing everything up
rebooted into CWR (I was on Trigger)
Do a nandroid backup (if you like)
I wiped (factory/data/dalvik)
installed... let it do its thing... several reboots (NORMAL)
Once done, I watched the beauty of the boot screen.
I then let it sit....
went into Rom Manager to Download Rom...
told it I already had CWR installed, selected the "CWR 3. " option...
selected the latest google apps, downloaded, unchecked any wiping options and let it do its thing
next reboot, signed in and I am good to go.

@tmosto Going to mainline in no way means bug free. It just means that development will now be done on CM repositories.
Just because it's official does not mean gps will work... a huge step though.
captivatemtd is there
Well, I will be a guinea pig. I am putting it on my vibrant ASAP!
I have finally found a great rom (pinnacle 1.2) after a string of good looking and poorly functioning roms [early apex releases(no offense, new apex is incredible)] or extremely ugly with fantastic functionality roms (fasty, again no offense, really.)
It seems I am closer and closer to my only fantasy with my Samsung SGH-I897 Captivate. I DESPERATELY WANT CONSISTENT AND HIGH FRAME RATE
Watsa's Pinnacle is sooooo close, but every now and then it slips up and gets real laggy. I flashed the tw 4.5 mod, and that made a big difference, but it seems the frame rate is low and speed is high (which is great) but it still doesn't cater to my true love and desire .
I have watched multiple reviews of other stock smart phones (ie Xperia Arc, Nexus S, etc...) and it seems that they don't have a problem OUT OF THE BOX with performance and frame rate. For us Captivate owners, however, we have to go on this big hunt for better performance because the stock rom runs like S--T (again, maybe it's me or just my phone.)
Maybe it's only me . Maybe I'm doing something wrong. So that's why I'm extending my hand to anyone who can help. I am looking for a consistently high frame rate for my phone with some solid performance. If anyone can show me the tricks of the trade, or the secrets of fashion, I will forever be in debt to you (and possibly write you your own personal jingle [Im a professional musician] and send it to you in your honor)
For the record, I'm still really excited that XDA and it's community has made my phone the way it is today. I love that everyone on here isn't an 1/8 as bad as any youtube dbags. The support is incredible (shoutout to watsa) and everyone is more than willing to help. THANKS XDA!
EDIT: Hell, Ill write you a song. Just PM me three things about you and It'll be in your inbox in a matter of days.

You could try Fasty II or Victory Rom both look Good and have slick performance.
If there is evil in this world it lurks in the hearts of man.
lol I feel sorry for OP. Ok I will start with it. I get ~ 45 FPS on KH3 Its controlled by kernel and if you want a higher FPS I am sure you would need a custom kernel which obviosly isnt available for KH3 yet.
If this is your priority no 1 then you need to jump off ship to an I9000 ROM with a highly customizable kernel like Talon.
Alright, all Im asking is iphone-like smoothness. Ive never seen that on the captivate, and Im hoping people can prove me wrong.
Oh nooo u didn't ?! There is no "i.." (the one we shall not speak of) in this comunity ,only we or us
As watsa mentioned earlier I'd too recommend you to switch to i9k based roms and then go for talon (oc/uv will set you straight).

You still haven't answered what you are talking about.
Also how are you measuring framerate? Is there a widget for that or something?
