[Q] AT&T Captivate Official FROYO Update??? & Random Shutdown Issues??? Related???
AT&T & Samsung has just released news of their new AT&T INFUSE 4G (with Froyo 2.2 onboard) to be released second quarter 2011. IMHO, they are leaving the AT&T Captivate owners HIGH & DRY with no FROYO 2.2 until after the INFUSE 4G release. IMHO, they want current Captivate owners to either buy the the NEW INFUSE 4G or move on silently to another phone or cooked ROM. I've heard of a person doing six exchcanges for the AT&T Captivate random shutoff issue and still not fixed. I was offered a free upgrade to a refurbished HTC 8526 from my WM6 8125 on the third exchange (clearly honored service by HTC). What about you SAMSUNG???
IMHO AT&T and Samsung needs to offer FROYO 2.2 to AT&T Captivate owners before the INFUSE 4G is released or belly-up free upgrades to the INFUSE 4g. Clearly unhonored service by Samsung and marketing promises of future upgrades by AT&T.
Your feedback is welcome...
I have largely given up on the idea of an official captivate update. That being said I have been running froyo since september so I really don't care
As much as the Captivate is a nice phone, it will be my first and last Samsung Phone. I already threw samsung out for just about everything else also. Their TV's suck also, and most of all they don't care about there Customers.

I've always hated samsung for how they treat customers for every product they make, and not just phones. I thought I would give them another chance with this phone. Lesson learned.

This is my first and last Samsung phone as well. I had heard that Samsung and AT&T were less than honorable when it came to customer service but I thought I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. Stupid me.
As far as your comment, Samsung has no control over when we get Froyo from AT&T. This being the case, they have no stake in "bellying-up free upgrades" to any phone. Anyway, why would you want another Samsung product that will certainly go through the same upgrade path as the Craptivate.

I have to agree. This is my first and last Samsung phone. And with Samsung and ATT both pulling this crap on its customers, I am jumping from ATT.
I find it totally BS that they both are pulling this crap to get people to move off of the captivate. With them releasing the TMoble update, they are pretty much saying Screw you. We have your money and your not getting updates!

I have owned a N1 since Jan but since have been relocated for my job and have no Tmobile/ATT service. My employer also has told me with the large area I will be working sprint is not that well either (Thus knocking out the EVO).
So my question is which Verizon Android phone is best? Specifically has the most going for it as far as development. I'm leaning to the Incredible but would it be worth it to wait for the Fascinate even though there is no current release date??

Check the topics; there was a link referring to release dates and Nov. 11th is when the USA release is. We can guesstimate that it would be around that time or past.

Whats with the huge gaps? I doubt there are that many Vibrants in Canada that it needs to be staggered like that.. This does not sound very practical.

I worked as a service provider for Bell Canada for many years. This is their mentality, even though they are such a small drop in the bucket compared to the big wireless companies like Verizon or TMO.
I'm actually quite disappointed that Bell even has a say in the matter... Samsung, as crappy as their service is, should be the drivers. This means we can almost forget about any future 2.3 upgrades after the SGS drops off Bell's sales radar.

As I understand it from reading around there are about 500,000 sgs i9000m devices in Canada however... I tottaly agree that Bell should NOT have any say in the firmware upgrades and I hope Gingerbread will officially make it to us here in Canada but my hopes arent too high.
I have never flashed an unofficial firmware before but in this regard all I can say is THANK GOD for xda and the talented developers who will no doubt have many flavors of gingerbread for us canucks to munch on when its done baking especially since the galaxy tab WILL be getting it and the 2 devices are so similar.

I have very little hope we will see an official 2.3 update from Bell. As you said the phone will be old news and newer and better phones will be pushed. Its the blight of Android unfortunately.. This seriously has me considering one of the 'other' platforms for my next phone.
You're worried about getting 2.3 from Bell? I'd be shocked if anyone ever sees 2.3 from Samsung!

At least when we get it in Nova Scotia the DXA devs will already have fixed it.

You're hoping on 2.3?? lets hope 2.2 actually comes onto our Kies. we've been told Froyo was gonna be here since day 1 within a couple weeks (at least thats what i was told by bell tech)
I cant wait to see what 2.2 brings, then I'll worry about 2.3 down the road
2.3 would be nice but I don't see it coming to the i9000m. Since Bell seems to have control over the updates, upgrade support will drop around the same time as Bell drops this phone for another.
Hey, so I am with sasktel, and I am wondering if I will be able to receive the update? My phone is also i9000m. Can I be expecting an update or will I most likely have to flash from bell?

Okay so latley I've been google searching "lg thrill gingerbread", and constantly I'm seeing stories about how at&t has released the update and blah blah blah. However I've yet to receive this magical update. Any idea what's going on?

What stories say att released it?
Att has issued a statement that all 2011 phones will GET it, but mums the word on dates.
Only info I could find was the Optimus 3D was expected (in July) to get the update in October. That update is also unconfirmed for an actual date. Plus, even though the Thrill is almost identical, O3D ROMs will not fully work on the Thrill.
Unfortunately att has a poor track record for updates. Gingerbread has been out since December and the Captivate still doesn't have the update.

it took my last phone almost a year to get the official Eclair (2.1) update from AT&T... dunno what extensive "testing" AT&T has to do to the software...
The Thrill is out of stock on AT& T's website. Kind of interesting. Selling out or discontinued? I'm leaning towards the latter.
Don't know if it is discontinued yet, but I do know that it has not been in stores (AT&T) for at least 3 months. We had to get my wife's from online only back at the end of november-early december.
I haven't seen them at any at&t stores either. I'm guessing it reached its EOL in at&T's eyes. Try Walmart or Radioshack.
Update: Just checked Radioshacks website. Thrill is not listed. This phone is pretty much dead in everyone's eyes. We can blame LG for releasing it with 2.2 and att for not releasing 2.3 in a timely manner. I have an upgrade this month and one in May. Checked out the Note and its looking good!
Still had them at the at&t store near my house last week. Going in the morning to get a Note, will check and see what is up.
Still have at our local our corporate store. Rep there though, said that bestbuy had bought out LG rights exclusively or something.

On HTC's website, it says the HTC one is available at Rogers and Telus. Two of the "big three" here, excluding Bell. All of them are flipping horrible providers, just so we're clear on that, but since I don't want to deal with cancelling a contract, can anyone confirm that Bell is getting it? And does ANYONE know, even approximately, WHEN Canada will be getting it? I've searched everywhere, every day and I can't find a straight answer. I know it was announced that Bell would get it, but with all this changing of confirmed information, possible delays, and the general poor service of Bell, I'm starting to think that I may have to wait until my contract is up in September before I can shop for a new phone!
I think bell would be getting it since it sold the One X. I'm currently with Virgin Mobile right now and I bought the phone straight out from HTC. If you want the phone soon buy it over seas or wait till September. This is definitely not a cheap phone.

telus website clearly state that the phone will be available soon
You won't get any answers from Bell until their release date is publicly and officially announced unless you have a buddy who is an upper tier exec there. But wearing my guessing hat, I'd say you don't have to worry. Bell's android phone lineup have always been Samsung, Motorola, and HTC for the last 2 years, and since there's no different versions of the ONE this year, that's what they'll get. Unlike last year's BS where Rogers got the flagship One-x and Bell a-holes picked up the entry level POS One-V welfare phone. Bell hates variety. They only ever sell top end iPhones, Samsung androids, and Blackberries. Good luck wanting a Samsung competitor for android from them, they won't carry it. So count yourself lucky HTC only has one version for the Bell jackwads to sell.
Thanks very much guys. I always wondered why Bell's phone lineup was so small... At least they carry GOOD phones! Mostly...
I think it is now available for pre-orders at Rogers playfuldroid.com/htc-one-is-now-available-for-pre-orders-from-rogers

Well that is why they have the virgin brand is for cheaper phones....
As telus will carry the HTC One, can it be used on koodo? I'm just moving back to Canada and not too familiar with the carriers but i noticed koodo has one of the cheapest yet good plans and they are on the telus network if i am not mistaken? So if i buy the phone from telus, can i use it with a koodo sim and have no issues with reception/download/coverage?
Thanks

Yes Koodo is owned by Telus. Although I would highly recommend never using Koodo/Telus. I absolutely HATE them and I say they are the worst cellular provider. Go with virgin Canada because if you dont buy the phone from them they give you 10% off their plans and they have the best Data plans.
