I'm currently using the Final build of Ginerclone which uses the JK3 modem and the ULF kernel. I would like to flash both the JK4 modem and Speedmod Kernel..
I understand the process for both.. but am kinda confused about kernel flashing. Speedmod reccomends disabling any lagfix before flashing a new kernel. How?? How do I disable the ULF that came with Gingerclone? I went into CWM and didn't see any options to disable.
Can someone give me a n00b step by step on how to disable the lagfix so I can flash the new kernel?

Should have an option in recovery fire advanced ulk options. Click then go to lag fix then disable. Go back and reboot. phone will go back to a screen giving options about new settings. Click top option to back up and restore. Done

There is no option is CWM.. According to ROM manager I'm using the latest version... is there another way?
Do not use rom manager to get into recovery. Power off, use three button combo to get into recovery vol up and down and power. If you have ulk the option will be there

I could not find anything in Clockwork Mod.. I had voodoo lagfix before I flashed back to stock via Odin. The folder was still there after installing Gingerclone so I put disable lagfix in the voodoo folder and decided to flash the Speedmod. Everything seemed to work fine.. My Clockwork Mod now has SpeedMod in the menu and new options.. It definitely flashed over... But here's the weird thing.. My kernel doesn't show SpeedMod in About Phone.. just the numbers 2.6.32.9 ...which is very weird.
Is that normal?
Certain roms can not show the kernel correctly so yes it is normal for certain roms. The 2.2.1 roms show the correct kernel
To get max effect of the kernel enable lag fix in recovery and enable all tweaks that have r next to it.
Also dl voodoo app from market for sound
Dude. if you have ext4 lagfix with ULF, then you don't even have to disable to flash. HC's speedmod kernel is TOTALLY ext4 compatible. It clearly states you don't have to disable if your already ext4.

Ah that makes sense... Gingerclone is a 2.2 Rom and never showed the actual Kernel since I had it installed.
All the tweak options already show enabled.. so that's good. Also, as far as enabling the lagfix... when I go into Lagfix options in CWM. Everything already shows data is in ext4 format. Does that mean the lagfix is already enabled?

I read that only if you have the latest version of Voodoo, then it was compatible. Since I could never see exactly what kernel I had.. I wasn't sure exactly what kernel I was running.. so I disabled it before I flashed just to be sure. Now that I have speedmod installed and running.. can I delete the Voodoo folders off my sdcard?

I'm on Darkyy's 8.0 and I accidently applied the Voodoo lagfix (its right above the BACK on the list, I was too quick on the power button and applied it ).
My question is, do I have to remove the lagfix before flashing to new ROMs? Any idea how-to?
It is always advised to disable lagfixes before flashing.
To disable you need to go into recovery and select voodoo lagfix. There should be an option in there to disable. Reboot and after the robot lady has done her thing reboot again (just to be sure). After that you're good to go with flashing.

I just installed firefly 2.1 concerning voodoo do you have to enable it to work i hooked up my phone to pc and cannot find any folder named voodoo and in order to flash a unsigned zip do i need 2e or 3e?sorry for noobie ? just dont want to mess anything up and i love this rom so far awesome.I came from motorola backflip and flashing those roms was easy this phone more involved i've been reading alot starting to go cross-eyed.
go to recovery and check if your file system is ext4, if it is, that means your lagfix is enabled. recovery 2e is generally used for flashing cwm zip file, if you are using recovery 3e, search the forum for signature fix, otherwise, you will get some errors.

it is recommended for disabling the lagfix before upgarding a new rom. Yes, you can do it in the recovery.
But from my own personal experience, you do not have to do that, at least for upgrading the same brand rom, for example, upgrading Phoenix from 3.5 to 4.1.
If you are more conservative, disable it first.
FireFly 2.1 does not use voodoo lagfix. It uses the Speedmod kernel which has options for lagfix in the recovery. I have flashed over ROMs using voodoo (without disabling it), with no problems.
If you do disable voodoo, and then flash 2.1, make sure you go into recovery and enable lagfix and other tweaks.

enabling lagifx will let you feel smooth UI on your phone because of quick file access on the system. if you are using SpeedMod kernel, it has more info about the tweaks (it will not make much difference as lagfix).
so if its not enabled i can flash themes and fonts.but if enabled disable first so as to be able to flash from cwm and it has to be on 2e right?thank you all for the help.

if you just want to flash themes or fonts, you can just leave the lagfix setting as it is (it does not matter), only when you try to flash a rom. Recovery 2e is very stable in my opinion.
flashed serendipity last night, 5.7. I want to disable the lagfix (s) in it so i can flash supernova. How do i disable them? Can i just put my phone in download mode and odin to stock, will it remove the lagfix?
as long as you're flashing a kernel that supports your lagfix, you don't need to disable it.
the rom is: supernova, anyways can anyone tell me how to disable it on serendipity 5.7?

you may need to flash back to stock since they are based on different roms.
Recommended Practice when moving between ROMs: Flash stock. Takes 10 mins, but well worth it.
for sure, i always do. i disabled lagfix, flashed to stock, root and all that stuff. wait till 100 percent battery and flash away
If you are using odin between flashes it will remove the lagfix. And, I am not aware of any kernel being widely used anymore that does not support ext4 so you really don't need to worry about it at all.

There are a few things you cqn do. First there are apps to disable the lagfix with one click. I believe its called voodoo control. Second option would be the manual way by editing the voodoo folder otherwise you could always flash a different kernel that includes the correct recovery. Or lastly you may be able to flash the new recovery in odin or clockwork. I have an update.zip that you can run from recovery that will install lagfix edition clockwork ill post it if you would like.

I know Cognition has been using Voodoo for a long time.
Basic answer to disable Voodoo before flashing another ROM:
Go into the "Voodoo" folder under your SD Card.
Put in a file with NO extensions called disable-lagfix
Reboot.
BUT... if you plan on installing a different ROM entirely - you probably want to flash back to stock first. Get Odin 1 Click and it will wipe the phone - including any existing lagfixes.
Basically though make sure you read the Dev's OP post before flashing - most will tell you to wipe your phone before flashing their ROM. Prevents a LOT of potential issues when you do it that way.
It also depends on what you're moving to. Most use ext4 therefore disabling lagfixes between them isn't near as necessary. But still reccommended.

check your build first, then use odin to flash back to stock, you do not need to disable lagfix when you flash back to stock.
then you install the rom from there.
why should i return to stock?
by the way iv found the way to enter the "RED recovery"

back to stock is just want to make sure you do not mess up something. it will always work for me ...
copy your new rom zip file to your sdcard root dir, go into recovery, install the zip from there.
You don't need to disable lagfix. Just flash and be done with it.

Yeah, because no one ever messes something up odin flashing.
When you say green/red.... ClockworkMod Recovery 2.5.1.3 -voodoo lagfix is red. The Speedmod kernel's version is green. You can switch to the 3e recovery from inside speedmod.
where i can get a stock?
The stock kernel is rather slow and unfunctional. I don't think anyone really wants to flash back. You should try speedmod for a good kernel. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893880
However, to answer your question, you can always flash back to Odin.

I flashed the resurrection edition a while back..Today i upgraded from 9.2 to 9.3 after disabling the voodoo lagfix and installing the zip from SD card. Now the after completion of the flashing and all, i checked the voodoo folder in the Clockworkmod recovery, which showed disabled. Do I have to enable it from here? WIll there be any problems if i did?
You enable Voodoo by ticking enable in CWM Voodoo .

Problems are always possible with a modified rom but Voodoo is fairly safe .

You can re-enable the lagfix it simply by deleting the file that says "disable lagfix" or deleting the entire Voodoo folder, and then rebooting the phone.
Remember to give it several minutes to reconfigure your filesystem to ext4, and make sure your phone is either fully charged or plugged in.
