Nook @ 1.1GHz screams - Nook Color General

Woohoo!!! Thanks to new kernel by Dalingrin, I'm running at 1.1GHz.
Just scored my best Quadrant score to date: 2015
This is on Froyo 5.9, running off of emmc!!!
Was stoked and had to tell someone. Since I have no posts, it wouldn't let me post in dev forum. So here is my first post......
Cheers!

2015?! that's insane. i must try this...

Whoa and to think the galaxy tab only gets 1050...

50mhz more.....lollllllllll

I just installed the same kernel today and my NC is way faster. I don't know where to look for the quadrant info, but my pdf's are being rendered instantaneously. I was planning on returning my NC because pdf reading was a pain, but it works perfect now...

Yeah but try it on a real benchmark like smartbench and I bet it starts looking more realistic.

Could you give a brief explantion of how to do this?. I've only tried the autonoter so far.

That's exciting, how's the battery life, by the way?

I installed the same kernel on Eclair and got ~1200. I've been running back to back benchmarks now and have gotten 1050, 972, 923, then 1211... Strange

If he is running Froyo, no. Froyo easily sees a 300-500 point boost over eclair, because of the improved JIT compilier that is in Froyo.

Is it stable though? And still undervolted?
Anyways, gTablet with most custom fw gets c. 2400-2500 but can hit 3200+ with some additional mods... still just a synthetic benchmark though...

Can you post a guide to installing? I can get it to work right. emmc is way faster, scoring 1478 at 800 right now.

2006 is the highest I can get....
I tried it about 10 times lol...

Sorry about the URL. Using this picture elsewhere. Ever since getting out of the military and the soon to be ex wife turning off my Sprint phone, I've been flashing a lot of Android devices.

I was about to post a pic, but because I don't have enough posts to link outside, so I can't....
I got 2013 yesterday when I tried to take a screen cap.
It doesn't always get that high. Just every so often it does. Can't explain the differences.
Steps:
Followed original eemc thread in the "general" forum (not one from dev forum).
Got that working correctly.
then mount /boot and copy uImage over old one. reboot and presto!

What's amazing I'm running customized nookie 59 with the 1100 kernel on a class 4 8GB card. I'm getting the same speed as with the standard 59 image installed on the emmc.
edit; The pic is a little fuzzy, 2048 was my best score with setcpu set to performance. In conservative I seem to be around the 2020 ball park.
Beats the hell out of me. I would have never of thought it if I had not seen it with my own eyes.
I included the lock screen picture to prove it was the customized froyo, I don't think there is an img file of it that can be installed...yet.

yes, quadrant scores database r/w pretty heavily and stock galaxy s and tabs are pretty bad there.
they're getting scores around 2900 on the archos gen 8's with ext4. it's with a oc to 1280 also. the biggest boost is b/c of the db r/w. at stock (1ghz) i think they were scoring 2400.

I thought I read that the Nook Color kernels still don't have the drivers for the graffics chip. If the graffics get sorted out we should another big jump.
For being an ereader, this thing is turning out to be the little engine that could. I wonder if the team that developed the NC had a tablet in mind or was it that TI had a tablet project that fell apart and they were just trying to salvage it. Either way its a surprising device.

just got my nook color and deciding on rooting it then OCing it ..
but undecided on eclair or froyo pathways..
the stock kernel eclair has gpu drivers and the froyo kernel does not right ?

My Score is kind of low. I got a 1164 I am running Nookie Froyo with a 1.1Ghz kernel.
Is honeycomb significantly faster?
It appears it gets hung for a second on Video and Audio decoding. My Motorola Droid is running Project Elite V5.2 overclocked at 1.1Ghz and it scores a 1832 quadrant score.
Roughly 1,050-1,100 on Autonooter 3.0 @1GHz.
My OG Droid on CM7 #13 gets 881 @800MHz. But it FEELS faster. It's odd that the NC doesn't see the immediate performance improvements brought on with Froyo like phones did. Maybe the ROM's just aren't as developed so intensely. Hopefully someone running CM7 for NC can chime in so we can compare.

same configuration running off a Class 6 SDCard gets me ~1200 (just under the Droid X on the comparison screen). I thought this was great until I saw your score...
On CM7 Nightly v14 with CWM 3.0.1.0....
Quadrant testing died when it got to H.264 decoding. No DSP video yet.
I can't even get it to run on Stock rooted. After I click yet after the test it just gets a service error and shows black screen.

This is something that has stuck me as odd, since i remember earlier Froyo builds that i ran getting well into 1600-1800+.. but like yours mine right now only gets ~1200..
Wow, dont know why you all are getting such low numbers, running HC v4 off EMMC I am getting 1800+ almost every time. Any insight on this?
benchmarks are just numbers, don't worry about your quadrant scores. worry on real world performance

I get anywhere from 3200 ~ 3700+ on my stock unrooted SGS 2
cm7 7.0.2 925mhz on SD card anywhere between 1600-1800

tegrak overclock

Attached screen shot.
Thought id check this out just to see what happens. It actually does appear to overclock and make real changes phone seems much snappier like it was with eclair and my voodoo over clock kernel then i thought i perform a quadrant. Some serious increases in framerates after setting overclock to 1.3 gigaouches. And has a much higher score, seems to transfer to real world performance.
Here is a before and after screen shot one at stock 1 gighertz voodoo
The next at 1.3 gigeherts voodoo. Both superclean 2.9.2 ec10 kernel.
I also added a widget to my sccreen to see if it really does say its at 1.3 gigaherts and it does. Phone seems stable and not acting weird at all. Will probably keep using

What makes you cautious? Before any hardware gets messed up the phone will lock up and/or reboot then you'll be at stock speeds again. Although I haven't had any issues.
Wow. Real noticeable difference here. easy to use. Tried the 1.3 but the phone would freeze. 1.25 did thee trick for me. It sets back to default after every boot too which is pretty cool.

Why? Nothing to be scared of. I can vouch it works well my friend and not only is it zippy (on whatever setting u have it on), it also resets to default after each boot. No worries!
I know quadrents are so so and not accurate on performance, but I get higher readings on 1.5 rather than 2.0. Always score in 1900s on 1.5 and 1600 on 2.0.
actually don't like this feature...

title says it all I noticed a nice difference in real world performance as well as every type of quadrant-like program you could use to score your speed but I wish that it would start on boot so if I need to restart my phone for whatever reason I don't have to go back in and reset everything.. really really want auto boot for this.

Nook Color 1.2 Rooted - Quadrant and Linpack Scores

The linpack mflops looks great. I get 11 on a tweaked out 2.6.29 @800mhz
The quadrant isn't amazing but I think its at least an improvement over the stock 2.6.29 kernel. I get 1800-1900 running my latest test kernel @ 800mhz on Gingerbread(quadrant typically scores less in Gingerbread than Froyo unlike other benchmarks)
Looks like 2.6.32 has some potential.
Holy crap....
This is going to be great once we get kernel source and can undervolt/overlcock this sucka
Performance in general is pretty impressive. I dont know how they managed but at 800MHZ it feels just as smooth as CM7 at 1100. I am REALLY looking forward to getting this overclocked.
Flash is smoother for me in 1.2 than its ever been with any rom regardless of clock speed.

There is a post somewhere else that includes an APK for the 1.2 Flash so that CM7 users can replace their current install. Apparently it was optimized specifically for the Nook Color and runs better than the Falsh that's available on the market.

It is true for any site that is optimized for flash on mobile. Youtube is so it is easy to use as an example. However any site can be optimised, it is just a matter of if it is or not. Not sure where i read it either maybe the cm7 user thread?

This is what I've been saying. Unfortunately, the flash B&N uses is worse on videos that are not optimized for mobile. But it performs great on those videos that are for mobile. "Mobile" videos only have 40% CPU usage @ 600mhz. Thats pretty impressive for flash, just wish it applied to all videos.

I have found the exact opposite to be true. I go to a site that has videos not optimized for mobile and on CM7 they are simply not watchable. With the 1.2 flash its not perfect but certainly better than it is in CM7. Which is surprising because when im on CM7 i run 1100MHZ compared to the 800 with the 1.2 flash.

3651 at that same frequency.
my loss of points was SD card because I'm using a class 2 16gb card, not the 8gb class 4 that came with it.
Different benchmarks as I took them a few weeks ago, but could be interesting for the sake of comparison anyways. The first picture was taken at stock clock speed using the Quadrant benchmark. The second was taken @ 1209MHz and the third @ 1401MHz I believe (I didn't take note so it may vary +- 100MHz). I wasn't brave enough to go any higher Although I know that the Tiamat kernel could allow you to go up to 2.0GHz which is just ridiculous. Setup shown in my signature.

is it possible that i harmed my CPU with OC/UV in the past?

The uv/oc setting s are always restored to the kernel default once your phone is restarted unless you have your app set to "set on boot" which is never a good idea as bricks are made this way. And yes when you flash a new Rom it installs a new kernel and your setting s are set to the kernels default until you set up your oc app from wihtin your Rom.

That bench was clocked at 1804 it tottally depends on which Rom your using and which kernel. That was cm nihtlies and I can't remember the kernel, all I remember was the title contained the words "lightning fast". I've used roms with kernels that won't let you surpass 1.1 ghz and I've used ones that let you o.c. to 2.1. Weather or not your phone locks up is a different story. It doesn't seem to matter if its sense or aosp as I've had both clocked over 1.8. Generally the phone will freeze if you have uncompatible settings and it tries to run more than 4 processes at once.
here's mine.
Cyanogenmod 7 Nightly + Lord Clockan's kernel also ICS theme really looks great.
This bench is at 1.6Ghz but normally it's set to ~1.2Ghz and get almost 3 days battery life.
Incredible S is an incredible phone!

Before something changed I was able to get 3400 with 1Ghz and vorkkernel
So, this means that my score is bad?
What can I do to make it better?
Stock phone I was scoring like 2700, Volkernel 1Ghz like 2900 and now at 1.4Ghz with 3900.
Stock Galaxy S II scores something like 3200 if I remember.
Maybe you were running 1.1.6 version of Quadrant no?
that just score, and in benchmark, you will not see difference between 3000 and 3400 when you use it. the best combination is, when you feel a very big woow.
i got that feel with latest GO Launcher EX, and stock v10D with latest neoblaze [email protected] ext4, i removed cardock or what, and now i see a very very big difference with a very good standby time.
very fast scrolls in browser, gallery, and settings and launcher, install apps 5x faster, take shot 2x faster with camera, and the speed in browser is extremly fast. it boots much faster, you can try init.d tweaks for memory management.
and now... you can spend your time with make your homescreen, or skin nicer and nicer, and then share with us
With topogigi v1.7, OC at 1,4GHz got 4110 in quadrant!
At 1GHz was 3231
Edit with v1.9 +SP1 & HP kernel RC1 @1,4GHz "4416"
Custom kernels support "epeen enlargment".
Thats a different aproach to how sql database writes which doesnt make difference in speed in real use but makes a huge diference in benchmarks.
Where you see "sql hack" avoid it. No real advantage and it could be a potentcial data loss.
So there is a big part of the change
Wow...Reading this I feel like I still have to learn a lot about Android developments! hehe
In general I'm very satisfied with my phone, its fast, stable, never had an error.
I'll see if I can touch the 4000 score without increase processor speed, any tip?
I'm currently using CM7 Nightly 156 + Vorkernel 2.6.32.41 with Ginger 2.3.5.
Edit:
Guys, my 3g network was bad and I tried to restart my phone, when initializing he froze on LG logo (second one). I tried to replace the Kernel and had no success, so I had to reinstall CM7!! And the phone worked....I think that the problem was a Vorkernel update that I made by a program called Vorkernel update inside the OS!
Now I'm using the stock kernel from CM7 till get home at least. I ran Quadrant again and got 3143 point @1.0Ghz! That is a lot! hehe
Leaked GB 2.3.4
1.4ghz NeoBlaze ROM
Quadrant 1.1.7
2760 score. My phone is broken
Ah.. 3182 now, overclocking program wasn't working!
3658 run two...
3710 run 3.. nice.
Restored phone, went to Topogigi 1.9, 1.4ghz still, now getting around 4600... much better.
Topogigi 1.8 sp1
1,4Ghz

Yeap, in Topogigi's thread a guy showed a nearly 5000 screenshot with some tweaks of his own..
It's probably good to remind that tweaking a ROM to have better scores in benchmarks doesn't mean a better user experience in practical use.
When you know which tests are made by the benchmark app, you can optimize the dedicated part of code in ROM to have better results, it dosn't mean the entire ROM will be snappier. The most famous is sqlite optimizations as all benchmarks use sqlite tests...
So it can give a good idea but it's not the Holy Bible...
2369 on stock rom for me. I wonder if my phone is not performing like it should. No custom kernels.
