Thanks, but these phones are way too sensitive i always treat my phone with care or else i wouldn't have bought an otter-box. dell made an excellent job with the phone/ tablet but they just have to work on their product's endurance.

I guess you don't have it under warranty?

I've been very careful with my streak- haven't gotten a case for it and I don't think I will.
But I've been seeing a lot of these threads where the screen doesn't crack but the lcd beneath it does.
I've also read that people have been successful in getting Dell to replace/repair the unit for free as long as you say you took it out of your pocket and it was cracked and not that you dropped it.

Sure you can. I did... They try to make you think you should buy the warranty or the world will end, but you don't HAVE to get it... Their warranty is $10 a freakin month! Insane

If you are interested here is a guide to stripping down and re-assembling the Dell Streak..
http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Dell-Streak-Teardown/3512/1

If you bought your phone direct from dell, around the time when it was first launched in august of last year, and you bought it at the time for the 549 price tag, just call dell and tell them that your screen has a crack in it. Don't tell them how the screen got cracked, and be nice on the phone. I had the same thing happen to mine and called in, and within two days i had a brand new phone in my hand. They did that because they didnt have replacement parts at the time and this was back in December. So hopefully it may work for you. Oh btw, if you have a modded rom on your unit, make sure to restore it to what was on the phone originally.

cracked mine lcd too few days ago. I have just gotten mine replacement streak but not for free , dell charged me for $250 on the word that I have to return the original. But don't have any return label with the replacement so not sure if I need to return the original broken streak. Testing the replacement currently if it is ok.

I ran across this online, it's a screen and digitizer replacement; it seemed like a good price for 159USD. It says it includes "Clear glass panel with transparent screen protection." Does that mean it comes with the Gorilla Glass?
I hope this helps anyone with a broken screen.

They should have the LCD in stock. I purchased mine from them. I did the work myself.

I had the worst luck today. It started when I called Dell about a week ago to get a replacement streak because mine would no longer vibrate and the camera "cannot be found" after 3 weeks of use. I missed my package (the replacement) Friday from FedEx because I never received any email regarding shipping status or tracking information; so the delivery was unexpected. Today (Sunday) I drop my already faulty Streak and cracked the inside of the screen and it would no longer display properly. Now I have no idea what to do ? I can't justify paying $250 like prasadKnew and sent my replacement back when the streak is priced as low as $49; in my case $194 + tax brand new/unlocked/no contract from the Dell promotion a month ago. I'm so mad . I don't even know what to do with the replacement now. Do I just ship back the replacement back or do I ship out my faulty/cracked lcd streak back and hear from them later?
The quality is definitely inferior to my HTC phones and I've owned quite a few. I've used and I dropped those phones so many times and I never got any interior damage; only cosmetic. I had no case for those phones either when I dropped it.

Quality is poor compared to htc? Seriously? You have a metal armored phone with a huge screen. It takes less of a fall for the streak screen to crack because it is that much bigger. Sounds to me like maybe you should be more careful.

if its just the glass and not the screen underneath you can pick up the glass for about 30 pound

Based on my experience, yes I find that HTC has a higher quality control over Dell. I'm not entirely basing my opinion on the fault of the cracked LCD screen. That would be too prejudicial. All I can say about my cracked screen is I'm surprised how it's so fragile after the first drop compared to 4 previous HTC products I've owned which took beat downs during rush hour commutes. I'm confused by the contradiction when you say the streak is a "metal armored phone with a huge screen" and then leading to how it's more fragile because of a bigger screen? Compared to the HD2 I've owned for almost a year, the Dell Streak is not that much heavier or even bulkier. I've found my T-Mobile Wing to be much bulkier and that phone took a beating from me for over a year. The same goes with my HTC Blackstone and my first HTC phone; the HTC Excalibur. I questioned the quality issue because my camera no longer works and my phone no longer vibrates after 3 weeks of use.
Don't get me wrong eSZee, I still love my Streak because of the screen size, the battery life, and it's uniqueness. That is the reason why I purchase it and gave away my HD2 to a relative. However, the quality is still shotty to me compared to HTC phones.
As for Mike, I searched the forum and found multiple sites that sell the LCD screen; some without the glass and ones with it. The lowest price I've found so far was $80 or so with everything. It's sold on eBay and the link was posted by another member from this forum. I might go with that route.
The issue I'm facing is whether I should try to have Dell cover it by sending out my broken Dell and keeping the replacement until they call me or ship the replacement back and fix my broken phone myself? The conflict comes in when the fact is I called originally to get my streak fixed/replaced because it would no longer vibrate and my camera no longer can be found (dual LED doesn't work either). I highly doubt Dell will fix those issues under warranty first and then ship it back to me with a cracked LCD screen so I can fix it myself. I don't want to pay for the LCD repair from Dell because that would cost too much compared to a DIY method. I also can't fix the phone first and then ship it back for repair because Dell might argue I voided the warranty by opening it up.

i had the desire hd and it was heavier then the streak, although i think yes they break easier cause the screen is bigger but also cause the screen goes right out to the sides of the phone where as other phones dont

i just leanred about amex protection program (bought it on my amex)... its been less than 90 days since i had it... im filing a claim, and they may replace it for me. cool beans.
i went thru this with my friends nexus, i called HTC for her. they will fix it for 130 dollars, no questions asked.

Seems that I have some options now... Found a nexus amoled on ebay for 85... Takes 10 minutes to replace. The insurance takes ~30 days to process and I can't wait that long. So I bought a new nexus and the amoled. If insurance approves the claim, then ill sell the amoled and give them the phone. If they deny, ill replace broken amoled and sell nexus locally to a buddy (I can get more for it in working shape than with cracked screen).
Luckily, there was no damage beyond screen (digitizer and case are perfect still). So looks like ill get some good $ for it when repaired.
But now I'm back in the holding pattern for a new nexus to show up... Argh! (And I'm back on what seems like an ancient smartphone for a while -- bb 8900. Though it still responds to touch perfectly, the nexus' broken screen became flooded with purples and its not legible anymore. D'oh!)
I assume OP will be investing in a screen protector this time around

OP had phone in Zagg invisible shield, silicone gel skin, and horizontal cellet belt case at time of fall. I was getting out of the car and the seat belt caught the phone holster, sorta tearing it off of me, and it went from SUV height (5ish feet) to the concrete pavement below me. I even heard the crack of the screen (was a very painful sound to experience).
A sad day indeed.

well if this helps, she got her nexus back in less than a week. she is in new jersey, USA. i called HTC, the next morning she received shipping. she got her nexus back 2 days later all fixed up. less than a week. i guess it would depend where in the world you are located though. i think HTC has repair facilities on the east coast, near baltimore.
You had better luck than I did. I sent my phone out 13 days ago to HTC to repair a cracked screen. I paid $115 for the screen replacement on day 2, but STILL have not gotten my phone back. I am very disappointed in the Cust Care at HTC.
I just wanna say that OP has a cool screenname hehe.
And sorry about your screen. My advice - definitelly go with HTC. They know how to take these phones apart properly and they won't cut corners on that. You'll get a proper new native N1 screen.

Tough Case next time then
Thats unfortunate, OP.
My cheap gel case saved my precious from a bad drop to the asphalt. Not a scratch.
id really like an otterbox solution... but i rely on the dock for most of the day and night... and i am a battery swapper too. hmph...
this is not the first time ive had this happen... with the seatbelt taking my phone for a ride without me approving. some years ago, this happened with a BB 8700. but, i didnt know i didnt have the phone on my person until i back out the car and saw something on the ground in front of me. and then i realized that i drove over my @$#%&[email protected]# blackberry. i need a usb dongle coming out of my arm pit, and then id just have the n1 sewn into my forearm.
Anyone have experience in UK with HTC? what's the cost and time? Damn dropped it last night and the screen was with some scrambled colours. This morning had a proper look on screen and I can see cracked lines running all over. I think it's the inner screen that's broken.

Well... Sounds like you learned a valuable lesson on how to protect your new Nexus! Sell your SUV, get a sub-compact, and stop using seat belts!

Cracked my note 4 screen.....

I just cracked the screen on my note 4 [emoji47]. It is an extremely thin hairline crack that can't be felt by rubbing on the screen but can be felt by passing your nail over it. It's not really noticiable unless the screen is off. Since this is the first time this has ever happend to me im not quite sure what to do. I do have the JUMP! service which includes insurance but how much would i have to pay to get this cracked screen replaced through jump?
What should i do? [emoji22]
Dang, I'm hurting with you!
I think the Co pay is $150 they wouldn't repair it I think they will exchange it.

According to Samsung advertising, you should be able to drop the Note 4 on a concrete slab from waist high a thousand times without a problem. You only dropped yours once - has to be defective! Check the video below.

I do have a case on it which i specifically bought with the fastest shipping option on amazon to never have my phone without a case. But it still cracked.. Must have been a tiny rock thats taller than the 7mm lip this case has. I had been looking for a glass screen protector since i purchased the case 2 weeks ago and couldn't find any with good reviews Unlucky me.
What do you guys think i should do? Should i file a claim and pay the $175 or should i wait it out until there are screen repair kits and fix it myself? Or do i have any other options?

If it doesn't bother you that bad, you could just wait until it spreads or gets to where it does bother you... Personally, I am obsessive about such things, so I would replace it using JUMP!... I have this as a screen protector - http://www.bodyguardz.com/screengua...-skins-films.html?dir=asc&order=sort_priority -, and different cases for different "outings" a thin Sammie-case, and an Otterbox Defender... Otterbox Defender only comes in black right now, but I HAD to get max protection RIGHT away... Instances like your's happen to us all after all... Anyway, the PURE Glass Protector is great feeling and very protective... I have used them on 3 devices thus far, and stick with them... They have a replacement program that gives you super discounts if you need to replace it also, instead of having to buy another (Advantage Program)... Anyway, hope these options will help... I know how much this new device being damaged must bother you, but the replacement you get will be well protected I am sure (plus, the protection is available now, where it wasn't, when we first received our devices)... You can have these items waiting on your next device, if you choose to!! Let me know if you find other alternatives worth exploring, these are just my favorite options as of now...

If it bugs you a lot, i'll file a claim. It's not easy to fix it yourself since most samsung phones the digitizer and LCD is glued together. Very hard to remove it separately if you're not experienced. If you prefer to do it yourself, it is best to order it as one piece but be prepared to pay a pretty penny which would guaranteed to exceed $175.
I feel for the OP. I just got my Note4 and the thought of cracking it's gorgeous screen scares me. Unfortunately I have to wait until I get paid to order a case for it. Until then I have a nice padded case for my Kindle Paper white that I can use.

Note 4 T-Mobile
i think i cracked mine too in the middle, right. Its small. And i have no idea how it happend. The phone never fell of my hands or hit it with something. Its a T mob N4, maybe the T Mob version its not the same quality as the N4 for europe?
Your phone it cracked because you or someone else has knowingly /unknowingly mishandled your phone.
If you say one doesn't notice it unless the screen is off, then it may not be that bad... BUT if it bother's much, the $175 deductable is the cheapest route in getting it fixed. Technically it'll be a replacement, so better than getting it fixed. They'll say its a refurb, but its new.

[Q] Replacing cracked glass on Note 4

My very late, in rush butt started running without realizing that my phone fell out. I got the phone back from a stranger after multiple attempts to unlock my phone and keep it. Anyways, my friends and I, we came to conclusion that my phone was ran over by a car, face down on the asphalt. Tech21 screen protector on it has multiple holes and dents from the surface of the asphalt. Luckily enough, everything is fine but the screen, of course. It cracked every where. Every tallest bumps of the road left a crack on the screen. I can barely read but actual screen is FINE. THANK GOD!!
SOOO end of story. I ordered repair kit on eBay but I was wondering if anyone went through changing the glass on Note 4 yet? am i the first one?? T.T
Edit: it's my first time replacing the glass but I've dealt with similar stuff before. If anyone would like a video of it, I could try to record it. If I crack my screen, people could cry with me or laugh at me.

It would work better if you had the machine to separate the glass from the screen. I will say if the screen is badly cracked up you might have a really low success rate.
why not just buy a whole screen? they are under $200 the last time i checked on ebay. less risk and less headache.
you can even try just the glass after you replace the screen just to do it and if it works you have a back up, if not no loss.
i have a machine and hardly use it cuz how bad people break their screens today, whole screen is the safe bet.
i don't know if its the same in your area but most places charge $100-150 to replace the glass and most places don't reapply new adhesive to the digitizer and glass . so the glass is being held onto the phone by the frame only.

I agree completely. I dropped the phone on the road while riding and except the top right corner crack on screen there is no damage. Somewhat surprising because i must be atleast 30 mph and the force with which it fell, should have broken into pieces. Not even the back cover came off the phone.

My screen cracked while snowboarding and Repairs Universe offers a new glass/digitizer assembly for $189. I contacted Samsung and they offered to repair it for $197.77, so for an additional $8 someone will do it for you. The only downside is you'll be without a phone for about 1.5-2 weeks.
I was worried about the stuff from Repairs Universe being genuine Samsung parts (wanna make sure I get a real 1440p screen and not Chinese knock off crap that's only 720p), so I contacted them. They assured me that it is a genuine Samsung screen, but they could have been lying to me just to get a sale. For that extra $8 I'll get genuine Samsung parts and it'll be getting done properly by someone that know what they're doing.
So for anyone that needs a new screen those are two options for you.

So for anyone that needs a new screen those are two options for you.

That's good to know, thanks for sharing. Yes, I agree, I'd go directly to Samsung as well, considering price is roughly the same.
Any chance you can share the phone/email of the department at Samsung you contacted? Would be good to have that handy.

I went to their website on my phone, clicked on contact us, and did a live chat with one of their customer service people. It'll ask you to choose which product you're contacting them about (phones, TVs, appliances, etc) then what kind of phone. They'll ask for your IMEI number and all that jazz. I found them to be quite polite and helpful.
The only down side is you'll be without a phone for about 2 weeks, so make sure you have a backup phone to use or prepare yourself for terriblewithdrawal from not having your Note...
Guys the people you want to contact isn't Samsung. It's their only authorized repair service in the United States. The name is RSI found in both Plano and Hurst, Texas. Here's their website: www.repairsvc.com
Dealing with them directly should reduce your wait time.

FYI I just called these guys and they only replace the whole screen component for a flat $193 and it takes 5-7d.

Yes, that's the price they charge. I was letting everyone know that these are the guys that Samsung uses. They use genuine OEM parts and are the only repair center in the United States authorized to do Samsung repairs. If you look earlier in the thread, someone said that Samsung charges $197.77 with a 1.5-2 week turn around. As you just said yourself, this method would be $5 cheaper and 2x faster than going through Samsung to get the same place to repair your phone. Just was putting it out there if someone wanted 100% assurance that they were getting genuine OEM parts but didn't want to wait 1.5-2 weeks that Samsung quoted them.

Yup same reason I haven't cancelled the tmo 'jump' subscription. You do have to factor in the $10 per month subscription price though, so if you break your phone in 10 months, it's $275.
T-Mobile insurance to replace phone is $175 I just filed a claim on Saturday and got a new phone not refurbished today. The only problem is I had a Note 4 in White but they sent Gray since White was not in stock. I called T-Mobile and complained and got a $30 credit applied to my account so I really just paid $145

So I cracked my screen...

I dropped my phone today and the screen cracked. It's still usable, just has two ugly cracks along the front. Anyone know of a easy way to replace the screen?

Might as well have Motorola replace it, it costs $175 for a new device, but you have to mail them you're busted one first.

Agreed. I had a similar issue and had an overall good experience with Motorola repair. Took about ten days from start to finish.
Do I just go to there website? I don't have insurance.

Pretty much. Start at their online repair site:

So I contacted Motorola and they will fix it for $175 and if I want it back fast I would have to pay another $40 in s/h. With that amount of money, I could just buy a brand new one for another $50. Any thoughts?

Yes it's 250 on Amazon. Probably a better choice.
Also do yourself a favor and buy a case
OK but now I'm in a dilly of a pickle... I have the option to buy the 6p. My concerns are that the 6 isn't gonna receive anymore love now that it's going on two years old. Would it be wise to purchase the 6 again? Or should I just upgrade to the 6p? I love the 6, I do. But...and yes there's always a but lol. But the 6p intrigues me. I've researched and I know its not much of an upgrade but I love the thought of the fingerprint scanner and the overall look of it. But it is slightly smaller in size and I'm a big dude...but (there it goes again), I could always get a case to make up the difference... Anyways, I would love you guys feedback on my first world dilemma lol. Thanks!
get the 6 and save the money for the next nexus 6 upgrade before the end of next year with a proper cpu like the 820

Just an update if anyone cares lol. I went ahead upgraded to the 6p. Farewell my fellow shamu-ers. If anyone is interested in purchasing my 6, pm me. Good day.
If you still have the phone and aren't afraid of breaking it you could try a glass only replacement. I have never done it before until yesterday. I ordered the wire from eBay and made a simple jig to hold the wire so I had both hands. I successfully removed the glass. Hooked it back up still works. Am waiting for the new glass and loca glue (didn't order it until I removed old glass so wasn't waisting money if I broke it. I did practice on 2 junk phones first. Only one of the test screens worked before and it still worked after. YouTube videos is what I followed.

This. It's not worth the extra $400 for the 6P just for a bit more dev love.

Would you care to share your links in what you did?
If better camera and finger print sensor and more comfortable phone in hand is whats important to you i would dive in. I buy 3 phones a year so i can understand you wanting to upgrade even if its not that big of an upgrade . But at this point there won't be any giant leaps from year to year .

Here is a link to glass and t3 torque screwdriver. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=361337407585&alt=web
I got all the parts on ebay. Used the cheapest I could find from us sellers. You need a loca glu. I used a uv flashlight I got on eBay to cure the glue. Have to put it on all parts of glass for about 30 seconds each spot.
Here is the link to the wire I used
http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=111281188717&alt=web
I drilled 2 holes in a 2x10 block of wood about 8" apart and put the wire holding sticks in the holes. Watch YouTube videos to see how to take phone apart
It worked pretty good for me. I ended up with 2 small air bubbles under the glass and glass is slightly lifted on one side. Cannot notice once in cheap tpu case.
I used a locktite glue that takes 24hrs to cure to glue screen back to bezel. Cleaned with close pins while curing. Tried double sided tape didn't hold, krazy glue dried to hard didn't hold screen to bezel. I think all my trial and error and scraping and reglueing the bezel is why it is lifted.
Sorry took so long to reply. Just glued the screen on 2 days ago.
And I am in no way saying this is easy just that it was no where near as hard as I thought it would be. You could easily completely break screen trying this
Update. Screen works fine but... The locktite worked the best but is coming undone again. I believe I may have had the loca glu to thick. And made the screen thicker in doing so. And when I put it together it is pressing out. Am thinking of reseperating and reglueing. Any advice is welcomed

Well, I dropped my N6 and broke screen for 2nd time. Alternatives?

Damage is done. Figured I may take this "opportunity" to try another device. Obviously unlockable bootloader is required. I'll dig around on some of the other forums, but wanted to ask here if anyone has experience with the Moto X Pure or Nexus 5X? Those are the two that have peaked my interest so far. Thanks for any beta you can provide.
The Nexus will be more frequently updated than the Motorola device. However, other than the screen being an IPS LCD, the X Pure I feel is the better device all around.
i would suggest you get this..

Lol i was going to do the same joke
From my personal story i dropped my n6 one time doing my cardio jumping rope
Phone's screen just fall right on the floor tile... I immediately check
Camera ok, screen ok etc...
1 day after ive finally see that the top bar speaker, you know the little plastic thing, was pushed. So pushed that now the top bar speaker is nearly at the same level of the frame... And led still works
I think the ringke Max cover saved my screen and I'm loving much more my n6 and his scars.
Ps: I've by a Bluetooth headset after that
Thank you I've you read this entirely

I would go with a 5x. I have had both and I currently use the 5x. It is a great device and I would recommend it to anyone. With a good custom ROM its bullet proof. Unless you drop it of course lol.

Yeah, I need something like that. I've actually cracked the screen 3 times. All of which were during periods I had the case off. Took if off to clean and lost a couple of the buttons in the case and just hadn't gotten around to ordering one.
So anyway, I just went ahead and ordered the Moto X Pure. I'll fix the N6 and maybe sell it to get a 5x too. Thanks for the feedback.
I just dropped my nexus 6, only 1/3 of the screen is lit and there's just a bunch of lines. I don't have enough money to buy a phone with equal specs. So how hard is it to replace the digitizer?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G530AZ using XDA-Developers mobile app
If you had a bad digitizer, your display would still function but touch inputs wouldn't register properly if at all. The AMOLED display is what is wrong with your device. Since digitizer and display are fused together, replacing the complete assembly is actually rather easy. However, replacement screens are not cheap. In fact, they aren't much less expensive than sending the Nexus in to Motorola and having them replace the screen for $175.
I'd like to chime in and make a suggestion.
Forearm curls.
This should help increase your grip so it won't be so easy to drop the phone.
Granted, it's an "over time solution". However, it should save some money in the long-run from lost/damaged phones.
That, or just superglue it to your palm.

It is quite easy to replace. There are plenty of video's on Youtube that show you how it works.
I bought a digitizer two month ago via Amazon. Had to release ~26 screws. Most sensitive part was to detach the connectors (very fragile!).
It went quite ok and I am now very happy with a full functional Nexus 6.
The digitizer did cost me $160,-. Quite some money, but better than a new investment in a brand new phone (A-brand).

I've repaired some phones in my time, but never in a phone that was pressed together with clips. I wasn't about to spend that money and possibly screw up. I went ahead and bought a HTC Desire Eye for $120. Maybe some day I'll fix the Nexus but no today
Sent from my GT-I9500 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I broke one of these and I feel your pain. I ended up just buying another from Amazon and left the broken one in my drawer. If this other one manages to break I'll probably grab a 5x or something budget. I can't be bothered to pay $175 for the repair when Moto has awful customer support now and the phone is only worth about 200 total.
