[Q] WiFi issues - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I am running CM6 RC1 with the decafunct kernal. I can get my wifi to authenticate and then it just sticks on obtaining ip address, and bounces back and forth between the two. On my routers page I can see the device but then it disappears. Any suggestions, maybe the wlan.ko got messed up?

What do you have your router's security set as? Open, WEP, or WPA? Is it prompting you for a key or passphrase and did you enter it? The issue may not be your phone.

Usually that's a sighn of not putting your password in correct. With theese keyboards its easy to hit the wrong letter or number.

Help getting IP address from router!

I upgraded my rom to 217 ROM w/CF2,ringers,themes and A2DP.
Ive done everything to allow for the DHCP to assign the 8125 an IP.
When I go to settings/connections/wireless LAN/ advanced it says associated to network with mac address and an IP address that locked in from my home router. When Im at work the IP address there is the IP address assigned from my home router. I click renew IP and it doesnt change.
When I go to settings/network cards/network adapters I select SDIO WLAN Wireless adapter I click on USe server assigned IP address and that doesnt work. There is the same Use specific IP address as the same IP address at home. There are actually hex figures in the use specific IP address.
When Im at home I cant get the wifi to surf the net either.
By the way I set the power setting mode to BEst performance. Im using a DLink 624 at home and a Belkin Wireless G+ at work.
When I had the stock Cingular Rom it worked flawlessly.
Help!?
Thanks
IS there some way to flush out the settings of the wifi card????
There seems to be some problems with AKU2 ROM's with certain routers. Not sure about either of the two you mentioned, but there are a few of us with problems with the new linksys SRX400 router. I will save you the trouble, at least in my situation, none of the 2.X ROMs work. I tried iMate, Qtek, both 2.17 and 2.8 and all the customized ones from summiter. Also it doesn't appear to be limited to the 8125, MadMonkeyBoy over on HoFo had a similar proble with his s200.
The only suggestion I have seen is to put in a manual IP, try to connect, disconnect, and then change it back to DHCP. It didn't work for me, but YMMV.
EDIT: take a look at this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=48431
Messing around with it here at work I guess by doing this..."The only suggestion I have seen is to put in a manual IP, try to connect, disconnect, and then change it back to DHCP. It didn't work for me, but YMMV. " It seemed to work... I was at lunch and of course I wasnt able to read this but I was able to see a wifi connection Ive used before like at paneras or something and It said connected but didnt give me an IP address...Ill have to try to do it manually connect disconnect DHCP see if it works at home,.
UNLESS...anyone else has any info...
Thanks!
Update...went to lunch and like I said I had a connection but not able to surf...
I went back to work and the connection that WAS working stopped working so I went to manually use an IP address...then I did assign automatically...and Im back in business at work. Ill try it when I get home and see if that works.
Seems kinda mickey mouse if you ask me...why is it like that???
Ill confirm more when Im home later.
Yep gotta do the assign IP address then click ok then do auto assign click ok and Im good to connect to any wifi as long as its open or I have the key.
Seems kinda mickey mouse...
Why is it like that??? The stock cingular rom didnt make you have to do that to connect.

[Q] cant connect to wifi at work - wpa2 aes

hi folks, im running cm6 with wildmonks 2.6.34.4-925mv cfs svs aix 720p kernel with the 5.08.00.04 korean radio.
my work has a wpa2 aes encrypted wireless network setup. phone sees the network, and even accepts the password, but never gets an IP address. it hangs at obtaining IP address for a few seconds, and then goes to remembered, not connected, and back to obtaining IP address. it will cycle like this if i leave wifi on all day, and it never connects.
thoughts? the IT guy says its the phone... as he hasnt had trouble with other wpa2 spec'd devices. something im doing wrong, or is he wrong, or should i go back to frf to see if that works, or try a different radio?
assistance greatly appreciated.
thanks.
By the looks of it, it never actually connects. Double-check that you enter the correct password.
I have WPA2-AES set up at home, and it works fine.
Sounds exactly like the issue I had with the router in my parents house. My phone just didn't get on with that particular router. They upgraded recently and all is well.
pw is good. still wont connect. not sure why. i have no troubles connecting to cisco equipment in other places, and so im not sure thats the issue either. other suggestions?

what rom, kernel, and radio are you using?
WPA2 Enterprise was broken when Froyo hit, currently some of the roms fix it, the latest CM6 fixed it I think (kinda). Other roms are planning to have fixes in the near future.

Enomther's 2.11.3 with its 720p AudioMod kernel, radio 4.06.
One router is Linksys WRT54GL, the other is WRT54G2 (2 places - mine and parents'), both are converted to DD-WRT firmware.
have you tried using the kernel that comes with CM6 to see if it works with that?
figured it out... i had the wrong gateway address entered... d'oh! :-(
good now. thanks for the thoughts on what to try though.
hello.
i have an adhoc with aes security at home.my laptop connects to internet via wireless. but the X1 phone cant.
rom 1.05.931.10

[Q] Captivate Wifi Issue

Hi All,
I have a weird problem with my captivate of not connecting to my home network. Let me start by telling that I have searched the solutions and tried doing everything except full factory reset. I have rebooted the phone, done reset on my router (Wifi was working just fine earlier.. so I think settings was not an issue. But I still did it), I removed the file data/wifi/bcm_supp.conf and let it regenerate it. Captivate displays "Obtaining IP Address" and it just stays there. I also see that IP address is being assigned to captivate in my router
Captivate is rooted stock Froyo
Router security: WEP
form the Wifi list, I found one unsecured network and captivate connects to that router just fine (signals are very week though...). I tried removing the security on my router but it still stuck on "Obtaining IP address".
Can you please please help me?? As I mentioned earlier, It was working just fine and suddenly stopped working two days back.
These all app updates are eating away my limited data of 200M.
Thanks a millian.
What's your router model ?
What channel are you running on ?
Are others routers close to you running on the same channel ?
Have you tried another channel ?
Did you try WPA2 ?
Could be incompatibility with your router. That happened to me before with my old router. It didn't work with some cell phone wifi devices.
Sent using XDA App
Try using the app "FXR." I had the same issue a couple times and this app seemed to fix it. It took a few tries though. I think it might be a router problem. I use the Linksys wrt54g.
You could also try assigning a static IP address to your device on the router side, and then telling your phone to use that address. I've used that in the past to some success.
As a test, have you tried (temporarily) disabling the security on your router to see if it connects?
I have a similar problem since upgrading to the past 3 nightlies. My phone sees and connects to my home network and says it has strong signal, but when I try to access Market or Internet it says there's a network error and I can't get thru. My two computers (one hard wired and one wi-fi) don't seem to have any problem hooking in to the internet, just my SGS1

Does the 'FXR' app set up IP addresses?
The App didn't work for me. I tried that yesterday. I was reading the similar problems on some other site yesterday and I found the following that solved my issue. In case someone like me still struggling with the WiFi problem.
Delete file data/wifi/bcm_supp.conf
Delete file /data/misc/dhcp/dhcp_list
reboot the device and it will create these files again and you will have to enter your WiFi password again in order to connect.
I am really glad that my WiFi is working back again.
FYI, I'd change the WEP to WPA.

Where do you go to change that setting? I've been all thru the wi-fi settings and advanced settings, but didn't see anything that referred to WEP or WPA.
Just realized we're talking now about the router, not the phone, duh!
Yes, I certainly need to bump up the security settings on my router.

I used root explorer, but could not locate the files you mentioned. Directories were there just not files. I'm still exploring the router side. Thanks for the info tho.

Wifi problems with CM7 on Nook Color

I'm hoping somebody here can help me. I'm running cm7 on my nook color off of an sd card. For the most part, it's been great. I've been having problems recently connecting to my law school's wifi network.
I can see the network I my wifi settings -- it's listed as having 802.1x EAP authentication. I pull it up and select PEAP authentication (which is what my school says it uses) and then I enter my credentials. At this point, the Nook will connect to the network and get an IP. But that's it. No internet access. If I try to use the browser or dolphin to go to a page it'll just sort of hang there without moving.
Anyone have any ideas?
Try pinging your gateway and beyond, see if your packets are actually getting anywhere. I would think if you're getting an IP address you're okay, but who knows.
And are you sure you don't have a required proxy? There's nowhere to specify a proxy in Android, although I believe Opera it has settings for it.
So for our work Wi-Fi you have to sign in with what you already stated, but then after that I have to open up my web browser to sign in there as well.
Not sure if you have a similar situation or not.

I don't know about cm7 but cm9 does have a menu item to specify proxy setting in the advanced menu.
Depending on the type of device providing the wireless, I've also noticed that it helps to make sure your device name doesn't have a "-" in it.
It took me quite a while troubleshooting my sisters to figure that out. In her case it was a d-link wireless that was the issue.
There was a pretty good thread on this a while back that listed a bunch of troubleshooting steps.

[Q] How to flash alterbridge's WiFi fix for Overcome 4.1?

G'day.
I have installed Overcome's 4.1 version and found that the dreaded WiFi re-connection bug has returned. :-(
I have found alterbridge's fix here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21180574&postcount=770, and I'm very grateful to him for supplying it, but... how do I install it?
Baby-steps, please. ;-)
Thanks.

I would hazard a guess that if you a). change your DHCP lease time to something less than infinity or b). use a static IP address you WIFI woes will evaporate.

I did have my MAC reserved on Kratos and that worked fine, but on 4.1 it wouldn't even connect until I removed that setting from my router.
My DHCP was set for 1440 mins and I've reduced that to 180. I'll see how that goes.
I always have to turn Wifi off and on again to connect at work and I often lose the connection, but Kratos was the same there.
Setting a static IP is ok for testing, but useless for a mobile device in the real world.. ;-)
Are you implying that there's no merit in the above-mentioned fix?
Thanks for your input.

The Wifi issue affects different people in different ways, some have had success with the patch, with others having no effect.
A statsic IP address is perfectly acceptable for a mobile device! ...I'm not sure you understand the concept of what I said - simply put, on your router allocate a static IP address to the tab MAC address, this will apply on your WLAN only ...you are not setting an address on the tab for ALL WLAN's.
So, to summarise you have three options to try:
Apply WIFI patch
Allocate static IP on *your* WLAN
Decrease DHCP lease time
"static IP"
Entering a 'static IP' on the router is called a 'DHCP reservation' which, as I stated previously, I have tried (twice) and this prevents a re-connection completely.
I'm not sure you understand the concept of what I said.
I'll flash the 'fix' as this seems to be the last resort.
Cheers.
