recomended method for arabic? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, i have galaxy i9000 config:
PDA: I9000XWJM2
PHONE: I9000 XXJPK
CSC: I9000 OXXJM2
I need to know if i should flash with ODIN stock ROM or custom ROM (I9000_Model_Froyo_version)
I have adb and kies installled
Thank you.

Im not sure what your point is , but i once tried a custom ROM ( Darkys v 6.0 ) and it had no arabic support .. letters are there but they are not connected. So i flashed a stock Froyo rom middle eastern version.

Well, is it safe to flash the froyo rom i mentioned to this phone? Also, how do i know if my model is european version. It says "GT-I9000" at the back of my box. One more thing, i cant enter recovery or download mode...am i doing it correctly?

Reading your pst you do not know what you are doing DO NOTHING until you have read the FAQS and understand .

Well i fixed recovery mode via ODIN now i can enter recovery mode. ALso, i am researching galaxy phones since the past week and am quite familiar with the process. Its just that i need to know a couple of things:
1) It says "GT-I9000" at the back of my box does it mean i have the international version
2) I mentioned my phone config in my first post, can i safely install the I9000_Model_Froyo_version to it after rooting my phone with superoneclick and then running recovery?
Thanks and please answer

Just need to clear these 2 points, someone please help

[Solved] Unbricking Australian Galaxy S

So I've just inherited a bricked (black screen of death) galaxy s that was bought from 3 Australia (as far as I can tell its not sim locked cause they were using it with vodafone). It doesn't have the 3 combo to get into download mode but I've found the usb jig so that should hopefully help me get back into download mode. I am just wondering what the best firmware i should flash with odin once I get back into download mode.

Eclair 2.1 JM9, from there I would go with a 2.2.1 custom ROM in the dev section.

I can vouch for the above recomendation. it is exactly what i did to unbrick my sgs.
Do I get it from the forums or from samsung?
did a very quick google check but didnt find anything with download, so if you could point me in the right direction that would be great!
from samsung here

sorry not sure which f/w you are looking for jm9 is not there but jm8 is .. and that is a full f/w
also can try the new canadian jl2... it is supposed to be great at unbricking phones.

Jm8 has always been my fix firmware for some of my stupid attempts at customization always does the trick on unbranded virgin sgs Australia.

Thanks for you help guys, I found JM9 a little below JM8 so I'll give it a try first its also a full f/w.
While I have your attention! Does anyone recommend a custom rom? I am currently using cyanogenmod on my nex1 and will probably use it on sgs if there are no other recommendations.
any one help me. my phone after flash XXJPU, it die.
my phone don't received sdcard ( internal ) and i try flash some other Rom but still not work (
Just thought I'd let you know (and any other aussie who has this problem) that I managed to get it working using the usb jig and JM8 from the link above and the CSC from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847765 (sorry can't post urls yet), however I had to use the re-partition option in odin for it to work after reboot. I'm now happily setting it up after flashing darky's rom.
Thanks to everyone that helped.

[Q] Debranding SGS and updating to 2.2

Hi guys.
I just got a SGS yesterday as my HTC Desire was stolen last week.
The one I got is a German T-Mobile branded phone (has customised boot and shutdown logo) and I really wan't to get rid of the branding and all those useless apps on it. I live in Denmark so i have no use for T-Mobiles apps that don't work here.
Now i have been reading a lot yesterday on these forums and reading lots of guides but I'm still unsure what route to go. Currently the phone is running 2.1 and I wan't to upgrade to 2.2 or 2.2.1 but unbranded, and then root the phone a bit later and probably move to Darky's Gingerbread edition ROM.
From what i can gather there are 2 methods to do this, but I can't really find out witch one would be right for debranding.
1. Using KIES registry pattcher and change my product code to XEE (Nordics) and try that to flash it to official 2.2 and root that.
2. Using this [HOWTO] manually flash Samsung Galaxy S with JPY firmware ** WORKS **
If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be awesome.
[EDIT] Forgot to mention that i can boot the phone in both download mode and recovery mode holding the 3 buttons, so no need to fix that first.
Information on my phone:
Product code from KIES registry:GT-I9000HKDDTM
*#1234#
PDA: I9000BOJG3
PHONE: I9000BOJF1
CSC: I9000GDTMJH2
Build number:ECLAIR.BOJG3
Firmware revision:2.1-update1
Baseband:I9000BOJF1
Kernel version:[email protected] #2
1. Using KIES registry pattcher and change my product code to XEE (Nordics) and try that to flash it to official 2.2 and root that.
Thats the way to go but you would be best to safe a copy of the current ROM for warranty purposes as you would need to flash it back to make a claim .
Flashing via Odin only if you cannot use method 1 .
jje
Ok, thanks.
But how do I make a backup of the current rom? There is no download for it at far as i can tell.
Get Backup from Samfirmware.com
Go to Samfirmware.com click on Firmware then go to Firmware Section. Select then Android and then Galaxy S GT-I9000. Then download the I9000XWJG3 firmware.
Done

But XWJG3 is not a T-Mobile branded firmware is it? If it is nothing on these guides makes any sense.
Btw I did find a I9000BOJG3.rar file on some download page, downloaded and it does contain the following files that match my current versions. I have no idea if it's a working flash but if it is I would be able to flash thsi from odin to return to stock right?
I9000BOJG3.rar file contains:
CODE_I9000BOJG3.tar.md5
CSC_I9000GDTMJH2.tar.md5
MODEM_I9000BOJF1.tar.md5
Oh my Fault. I tought that only the ending is important (Like if the ending is JP7 than it's a Vodafone Firmware and if the ending is JG3 it's a T-Mobile
But XWJG3 is not a T-Mobile branded firmware is it? If it is nothing on these guides makes any sense
You get branded firmware from the network operator .
All firmware on these pages is non branded .
Again my suggestion is to use Kies registry patcher and spoof the update to whatever you want .
jje
I'm also trying to debrand my SGS and get Froyo, but I'd also like to make a backup of my original ROM. However, my ROM isn't available in samfirmware.com. It's I9000BVJJI1 and I want to update to I9000BVJJPD, which one of my friends has and probably is the same hardware.
Is there any way to backup my original ROM?
Your rom and every network rom comes from the network Sam is generic base roms .
Back up = Clockwork Mod Recovery to save the rom .
May i repeat if you dont know what you are doing then dont this forum is littered with broken phones belong to newbies who have not bothered to read and understand and now need to take the phone back to Samsung for repair with non valid firmware that has invalidated the warranty .
jje
Just did the update via KIES using the patcher and everything went smooth.
Saved the new firmware during flashing and a factory reset after the flash as i had basically nothing on the phone yet.
Right now I'm on 2.2
PDA: I9000XWJPA
PHONE: I9000XXJPP
CSC: I9000XEEJP4
Not rooted yet, but I'm gonna do that tomorrow probably.

is your phone working at the moment ?
are you familiar with ADB ?
if so you can boot into download mode thru ADB and then you can apply the 3 button combo fix.
As above..

Android Debug Bridge, you have to have USB Debuggin enabled on the phone.
it allows you to perform commands similar to command prompt on a PC, you can make the phone do things without using it, like boot into download and recovery mode.
a little complicated, but many many guides around, also follow the link posted by rixsta and everything you need is on that thread,
I've got as far as downloading odin 1.7 but i need to know the specific file that i need to download like roms and firmwares because my phone is as follows:

We are waiting for Samsung to release Gingerbread > promised soon and i would in your shoes wait for the official release via Kies .

[Q] hii guys pls help

hi guys pls help me i tried surf the net with no help
i have a Samsung galaxy s i9000 i rooted to 2.3.3 but
today i flash my phone back to singtel firmware JG4 and i plug my device to kie
it came out this error hw do i change my CSC back to singtel?
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
pls help thanks
i think its better that you first go to stock rom xwjs3 with the boot loaders.
you can download them from sam firmware,
and then check in kies the csc must be normal again, if so you can flash the rom you want..
i had the same problem and i think it is because with xxjvk you get the new boot loaders, and you must go back to the old one for you're rom

hi bro thanks for the guide
but nw i have this issues
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
the reason i wanna flash back cus my phome home button not response-ing

A flash wont fix a cracked camera lens .
Kies cannot deal with a rom that does not match the correct product codes and hardware ID of the original device network data .
If you require Singtel firmware you need to source it from somebody that backed it up as you i take it did not back up your firmware .
Alternative is to try the Kies registry spoofing methods posted on xda or the app from the market .

If any of the firmwares overwrote your product code (not the salescode in the CSC!) then the only solution I know about is to put a factory firmware which has lower version than the latest available through kies (that to make sure kies can be connected and the fw updated) and as a second step you have to manually edit the nv_data.bin file in the efs folder(make a backup before you do this!) with a HEX editor. Find the wrong product code the jist replace the letters, write it back to the efs folder and reboot. You should be fine.
And don't forget to flash a carrier specific CSC via Odin!

[Q] Can not register on network problem

Since a few days it is impossible to use my Samsung Galaxy GT-I9000 as a phone. Whenever i try using it, it doesnt register on the network.
I am running DarkyROM JVH v10.1 baseband version I9000XXJVO Firmware 2.3.3
If i try to register on the network is searches and searches and searches... but doesnt find anything.
What "worries" me is the fact that when i start up the phoe is tells me its a Samsung Galaxy S II, which it surely isnt!
Please advice.

There is your problem..
Re-flash stock firmware with pit and re-partition, When complete, check you can register on the network.
If so then avoid the ROM which you are currently running.
EDIT: When you say the phone says Galaxy S II, Is this not a boot animation taken from the SGS II ? Or is it the actual boot screen which says its a SGS II ?
Call me stupid ;-) but i didnt save my stock-rom....

No problem.
Head over to www.samfirmware.com and grab one from there, flash it through odin, Instructions are on that site too.
Thanks AzzleDazzle, but now comes up another problem.... Probably very basic, but for me, its all abracadabra.
I have an European Samsung Galaxy S GTi9000, but if i look at the site there are many roms u can download. From Android 2.1 to Android 2.3.4 for "my" device. Which is the one i should use? My ID is I9000XWJVH, which is according to the site an unknown H version.
Please advice once more, thanks in advance!
No worries, Make sure you download a firmware specifically for the I9000
the last 3 letters eg JVH is the firmware version, JV.X. represents gingerbread 2.3.3 and above.
Gingerbread is the latest release, so i would go for one of them, The one at the bottom of the page on samfirmware will be the very latest, Which i think is JVR
So look for I9000XXJVR.
flash that in ODIN and job done you should be back up and running and with the latest release.
The rest is upto you . i.e going to a custom ROM / rooting ect...
i feel more and more like a noob....
I started Odin, and there u can choose for the pit file, or for the pda file (which is the one i should use i guess), but also u have the choices of re-partition auto reboot and f. reset time. Which of those 3 (or non at all) i should use?
I dont know what has happened. I choose for only reboot after flashing. Flashing went okay, but now it seems to be stuck in a loop. The Galaxy S screen gets followed up by a Swisscom screen in a seemingly endless loop.
Worse, with volume down - power on i can not come in the download menu anymore...
Any advice would be much appreciated now.....
Also when trying a re-partitioning via Odin it doesnt work?
Found the solution. Using Odin 1.8 did the trick. I used Odin 1.3 which probably couldnt flash the 2.3.4, while when i tried with Odin 1.8 it worked flawlesly.
Thanks for your help!
