[Q] GPS died from flashing? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I flashed my phone with a popular custom firmware everything worked fantastic, so I flashed a friend's SGS as well, but the GPS simply died, in applications like Twitter and Maps it's like the GPS function is off.. I've now tried 3 different roms, they all work om my phone but the GPS is still dead on my friends phone... Can someone please tell me what is wrong and even better - maybe have a sollution to the problem?

I doubt the GPS is damaged by a flash. More likely something on the system got corrupted. Try a factory reset and/or a full flash with partitioning, using Odin.

Flashing has messed up some files more than likely popular custom rom no guesses which one .
Flash to stock rom to see if that fixes the problem. That fails take it to a Samsung Service Centre .
ODIN METHOD

What version/ROM should I install via ODIN, that will work when I activate re-partitioning?

The one in the post Eclair first then latest JPY .

Samfirmware says "1 file select NO .PIT", should I download the right PIT and ignore that message? I understand that a .PIT is necessary for a Re-Partition?

FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE POST i gave you the link for .
Samfirmware is not mentioned in that post .

Hi! I had the same then I found that assisted GPS was turned on and the mobile network is not everywhere supports it.
Check with this: *#*#3214789650#*#* at Application Settings check Operation Mode. It should be standalone.
But of course it can be anything else... And you can check the debug logs with adb too.

[q] no base band after flashing

Hello every body,
I have a little big problem, i flashed my samsung galaxy S with I900XWJM5 from samsung firmwares.com
And after flashing my phone loose his BASE BAND so i can not call anymore, i inserted my simcard but the phone don't detect it.
I checked phone information and discovered that BASE BAND VERSION was " unknown " !!!
I tried to flash back to original firmware the I9000JF3 but same thing. I tried to flash only the MODEM part but still samething.
I called samsung technical and they told me to check in ODIN the case " Re partition " and flash again. But in Odin when i cheked the case " repartion" the flash hangs on " don't plug off target "
I tried to flash with a new computer under win xp, but same thing i can not do " repartion " with Odin
My mobile is not simlocked when i bought it, is my phone network dead ? PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP ME ?
Did you try updating the firmware through Kites? Also, try flashing it again with ODIN, after selecting all the 3 files - modem, code and csc.
You need to try with "Re-partition." until it works.
Also make sure you are using a 512.pit file.
and do not forget to take ur battery off and put it back before you try to run ODIN...

You would have to do that to remove the SIM anyway.
Make sure you remove SIM and SDCARD.

Unrelated, but what is the reason for needing to remove the simcard (I have never done so)
Thank you every body for your help
befor this problem i use to flash with Odin 3 firmwares and had no problem.
But now i can not tick the case " Re partition " to solve the problem. I called samsung technical service and they told me to do a full " Re partition " and flash again.
The problem now is that i can't do repartition, because the flash hangs at " don't take off target" and nothing happen.
may be the phone had serious problem with memory, i had to sent back to samsung after service .
Thank you all
I have the same problem. I have flashed many times with different firmware versions, but it didn't work. My phone couldn't attach network, I couldn't see neither IMEI nor Baseband version.
try just flashing the modem file until it works
the modem file is what controls the radios

During the flash it may take the SIM as part of the hardware and ignore it once it's done flashing.
You'll have to reflash without the SIM to get it to work again.
It's not a real issue, but if you are failing with Odin I highly recommend sticking to those recommendations.
Also remove all usb devices other then phone, mouse and keyboard. Had heaps of flashing problems due to external hhds sucking power while flashing. Now works 90% of time for me. Next thing you do is find a xp box and try again.

I've got the same problem. I am able to get JM8/JM4 (Kernel 2.6.29 [email protected] #2), and then whenever I try to go Froyo (JPM or JP6) I always end up with baseband unknown I did remove the sdcard and sim card - still the same thing, is there any solution to that thing ?

csc unknown??

I had loads of problems installing jpu and basically had to give up on using odin . I eventualy got it installed bit by bit and its working fine. My only problem is the Csc shows as unknown, will this cause any problems or do i not need to worry .
do you still have a network signal? if yes, then csc unknow should not really be an issue and more of a nagging annoyance of you seeing it as "unknown".
you can get your CSC back though BUT this will do a factory reset of your phone meaning all the apps you have installed will be removed so please back them up first.
all the necessary details you need are in the first few pages of this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787163
The automatic method will work for you. I am on JPU as well and it worked on me
Yea I have a signal and the phone is the best its been since buying it. The more I think about the trouble I had putting jpu onto the phone I'm just going to leave it until the next MAJOR update is available.
Thanks for the reply.

[Q] Only one soft / Signal without sim card

Hi forum
I have a very unusual problem with SGS. Well, from the beginning.
My mobile operator, has given me the SGS (with Android 2.2).
So I decided to upgrade to version 2.2.1, possibly Cyanomod / draky's. I plugged the phone to the PC and step by step according to the tutorial:
- downloaded Odin3 1.7
- pitting 512
- Keis with drivers
- And of course the latest 2.2.1 I9000XWJS3
Fleshed this soft thanks odin. Telephone, everything installed, Odin wrote "PASS" and there was a reboot. There was a samsung logo and then black screen and light vibration from time to time. Zero response.
I learned about the "Recovery Mode " did reset the cache, etc. Reboot ... NOTHING. So stweirdziƂem that you need to return to the previous firmware ... Now all my flash's finished in the same way: a black screen and a slight vibration.
I tried reaaaaly a lot of versions and nothing. I tried it once cyanonmod, darky's mod. And nothing. Somewhere on this forum, I found versions: Froyo (2.2) That does not bricks. Worked.
But, this is the ONLY version that can be installed and running.
But it is not so big problem. The problem arises when I put the SIM card. Phone lying on the table (in a place where I always had coverage in other phones) to lose coverage. To one or zero bars. Neither I can not get anywhere else, nor to call me you can not reach you.
But when I stretch out my SIM card, coverage remains. At least in the form of dashes. Of course, nowhere is this possible calling, but the phone displays one or sometimes four lines.
My question:
Could this be the fault of soft? What should I do if I can not change it? Return to factory settings is not possible because they get a black screen and a slight vibration. I have tried:
- changing soft to 2.2.1
- 3 button recovery
- flashed with the kernel
- w8 for over an hour! to give SGS time to install everything right
- reupdating soft for hundreds ways
- read all FAQs on forums...
I didn't "root"
althou I tried to ":update.zip" in recovery mode but it gives only new errors.
Anyone have any idea? Or I am doomed for Samsung service?
thx
And how about getting back to factory soft. I mean, the soft that come to me with the new phone?
Or these soft has been overwritten by the all flashe's I tried to install, and is unbeckupable?
maybe this will solve the signal problem?

Not unless you saved it .

Flash via Odin to Eclair then update to 2.2 via Kies and you should get original as the download .

I downgrade to 2.1-upadate1 (I9000XXJM4). Still no signal with SIM card. But when I try to upgrade to 2.2 via Kies 2.0 and didn't have info about possible upgrade to 2.2. So I downloaded old version of Kies (1.5.1) and try to again with regedit tweek and now I get information: "This software verios you cannot update"
Tryied "Test mode ON" "Test mode OFF", still nothing....

You will have to continue and flash the stock rom 2,2,1 as per the posted link .
Sim card have you checked it works on another phone .
jje
Yes SIM card is working perfectly on another iphone 3gs and nokia c5-00.
Now I don't have time to do all these steps, but tomorrow I will contact my operator to service it or maybe change to new one.
And do you think the signal problem might be the soft foulty? I think it is somenthink more...
And thank you for all the help.

Samsung I9000 doesnt recognize sim card

Hi everybody.
I got this weird problem with my cellphone. I have an international I9000. after factory reset my phone doesnt recognize sim anymore. I tried it with other sims too but my efforts were not successful. I tried flashing with other roms but again nothing happened. what am I supposed to do now? have you ever had the same problem?
Manual setting of network details or a new sim .
jje
Hi I had the same problem with my I9000 might be a different cause but its worth a try. Iv had it in tje past with other phones so I apolagise if I start abit basic but I dont know how tech savy you are not to nention we all sometimes overlook the basics.
first the basics. if you havnt already done any of there.
clean your sim, wipe the contacts clean then use a dry cloth or tissue and ensire it is dry. while the sim is out take a look at the sim slot check the pins are in the correct position so they are streght and not too far inside the housins to contact the sim properly.
if all is clean and good and it still dosnt work i would reccomend testing your sim in anothere phone even if locked most phones will at least say 'sim rejected' , 'wrong sim' or something along the lines also if possible test another sim in your I9000.
Now the gritty bit if your sim workes it is most likely 1 of 2 things soft wear or hardwear which is why I asked to check the pins above if it is hardwear and the pins look ok I cant help but bellow it a solution to softwear caused problems. in my case the cause was a corrupt modem file it can also be caused by a mismatch between the modem, csc and PDA files you can check your file versions *#1234# i cant tell you which pda goes with which modem but im sure it can bd found.
solutions to softwear issues. the easy way is to use kies if you rom is can be updated or if you can trick kies into updating. the other more risky way is to use ODIN I down loaded a stock XXJPO with seperat csc modem and pit then used kies to update to XXJPY but it wotked again as soon as ODIN flashed the XXJPO.
In short use ODIN to reflash a rom ensure you use the full 3/4 file method there are only 2 differand pit files but use correct MODEM, CSC and PDA i found myne in the genral section

Failing that kill it go back to basics .

[Q] 3g not woriking after installing a cutom rom.

So, I recently installed CM9 and on top of that SlimBean 2.6. Both worked otherwise perfectly, but I couldn't get my 3g connetion to work on either one, unless I turned "National Roaming" on. I checked the Acces Point Name settings, and they seem to be fine. I can't find my service provider on the Network operators list though. I read that a new modem migth do the trick, but I have no idea if that will help or which modem to choose.
I had a similar problem after going to CM9. I even had my APN (access point names) settings disappear randomly also.
Solution for me was to turn 'airplane mode' on....wait 30 seconds then turn off.
Strange as it sounds but it actually worked for me. But in the end, (after 1 day) I changed to samsungized 12.1 JB rom because I found that I had to use that airplane mode on/off alot and was too much of a pain.
Hope this helps.
If not, I'd revert back to a stock rom then upgrade to a stable JB rom
Tried just that, but no luck so far. Any other suggestions?

Id recommend trying a good stable stock rom with a 512_pit repartition via Odin, just to see it it improves the modem or not.
The rom im going to suggest has a replacement Modem file within.
Might sort the problem.
Ive used this stock rom to fix my many problems ive had after custom roms.( Mainly format errors i had )
Its from 'HotFile' site and took me around 20 mins to download it.
But it might be worth the wait in your case.
Rom File:
http://hotfile.com/dl/140301534/be8872c/I9000XXJVU_I9000OXAJVU_OXA.rar.html
Here Is the Pit File and Odin version I used. ( 3rd box down the page )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881
And heres the Root file. Get " CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVU_2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS " :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15188469
s1_odin_20100512.pit Goes in PIT ( repartition checked )
CODE_I9000XXJVU_CL851880_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5 Goes in PDA
GT-I9000-CSC-MULTI-OXAJVU.tar.md5 Goes in CSC
MODEM_I9000XXJVU_REV_00_CL1092175.tar.md5 Goes in phone
Sorry if im telling you what you already know with how to use Odin, just making sure.
After rom install pop this root on with Odin via download mode.
CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVU_2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS goes in PDA
I reckon its worth a shot.
Must make sure the 3 wipes are done before the rom install. I learned this the hard way and messed my
phone up for a while.
Problem solved! I did some googling around, and found a solution. Apparently my carrier, Saunalahti, is known for having problems with 3g on custom roms. I found out that a nexus s modem by the name of i9020AUCKF1 might work. And sure enough, it did the trick! No more roaming! Anyway, thanks for taking the time to help me!
