Hello! Yesterday, for the first time of my life, I flashed an android phone, my sgs! Now, the thing is, I really wanted to flash because from kies I couldn't see the last samsung update, I had I9000XWJFD and it said "updated firmware, no more updates" or something like that. And I really wanted the I9000XWJM5. So I decided to flash it using Odin.
What I did was at first flashing just the PDA, without modem and csc. Then I put the samset rom, but I had lots of problems. Also I thought all my programs would be gone, instead they were all there (cool). But the market wasn't working properly and the wifi either. So I reflashed with the option "repartition" in Odin. Lots of problems again.
Finally, after some tries, I was able to have a stable phone flashing the pda and modem files and NO csc (without the repartition option this time). Before that I did the "factory reset" and "cache reset" things in recovery mode and after flashing I restored everything thanks to my precedent titanium backup.
Now to the problem: the phone is working perfectly now, I also did the 1click fixlag patch and it's really flying now...but...when I go to the phone and write "*#1234#" to see my firmwares, it shows:
PDA: *BLANK*
PHONE: I9000XXJM3
CSC: *BLANK*
Now...is this normal? Is this bad? How can I fix it? It was like this everytime I flashed, sometimes all 3 blanks, sometimes I could see the phone part...
Sorry if it seems a stupid question, but before flashing it was normal and now I can't find a way to flash it and show everything again...
if everything else works well, why do you care?
normally you should flash all files pda, modem & csc but it should work in most cases without modem&csc ...
Well, I care because it seems like the flash went wrong...but maybe it's just my anxiety! If someone else has the same problem, let me know!
Ok so I'm running Darky's 7.5 ROM just loaded it and it's flying . i'm having issues connecting to my carrier. I"m from canada and run on a network owned by Sasktel. We get our phones from Bell and our current release is JL2 I think. I was running this ROM fine but wanted to see what all the hype was about .
Now the only problem i'm having is I can't register on my network and thus my phone isn't working as a phone, lol. can someone help me set it up. here are the frequencies we run on.
SaskTel
GSM - N/A
UMTS/HSPA - 850/1900
I went into the APN and set that up so I should have data I just need to get registered. I can see the network Sasktel but it wont let me register. I get the exact message when clicking on it
"Registering on Sasktel......You SIM card does not allow a connection on this network"
any help would be great, thanks
I tried going in here *#2263# but didn't know what to pick so I left it to automatic
I don't know.
When you flash back to official firmware, everything works fine again ?
This may sound funny but try 'sim unlock' your phone.
after flashing, your phone might have reverted back it's original lock which is to BELL.
I agree with the other reply stating for you to have your phone unlocked.

I unlocked my phone a while back and it's unlocked still, Network lock = off. and yes flashing to other roms specifically for my phone will work fine on the network. Is this because Darky's ROM is based on a European ROM JPY and i'm supposed to be running a Canadian ROM JL2?
Hi. I have a SGS straight from Sasktel here in SK. I checked my setting under 2263, and it is automatic (top one). After I checked it, it lost cellular connection for about a minute, then eventually came back (phew!).

awesome what happens when you go back into 2263 and click on the wcdma band, which ones are stared in there?I have 2100, 1900 and 900 starred but 850 is not.....Also could you post your APN settings. those are in settings, wireless network, mobile networks, access point names and then click on the inet.stm.sk.ca one and if it's not too much for you could you post them up here along with the wcdma band settings. Thanks bud
can we actually install darkys rom on BELL vibranat i9000M
i would like to find out if darkys Rom works with Bell vibrant thats i9000M from canada ?
well his rom is up and running fine yes, I just have to get the right setting to run on my carrier....I own a i9000m it's a bell phone that my carrier gets supply from. So yes his rom works great on this phone, it's so fast, I might try flashing a modem for the canadian phones and see if that works i'll post back
SOLVED - Sasktel (Bell) running Darky's ROM
So I figured it out, I was running JL2 and then flashed speedmod kernel to get 2e. I then upgraded to Darky's 7.5 ROM, when that came up I was unable to get on the network. I was getting an error "Sim doesn't allow connection on the network" error when looking in providers. anyways, I just flashed the JK3 modem and i'm back on the network with Darky's rom
I grabbed the modem from here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846237
I used JK3 because they were having issues with JK4 bricking for some reason and didn't want to risk it. now to just get JL2 modem some how
There is a JL2 modem floating around somewhere.
I am also running jk3 modem with xxJPY, love my phone now.
No more bridling issues

It's very simple, TURN OFF ANY/ALL lag fixes!!!!! Back your **** up. then you can begin
You phone should be unlocked but might not have to be.....mine was, you can grab sgs unlocker form the app market also, You have to be running 2e recovery. so check on that first by powering your phone off, wait till it's actually off, froyo vibrates when it's shut down. After it's off, hold volume up, home button and power till you see the i9000m then let it go. it should boot into recovery. If you were running Froyo then you will have a 3e recovery, we need 2e. Also you should check and make sure you can get into download mode, by powering off, volume down, home and power key. If you can't get inot download mode you have to fix that first. if you can proceed:
So grab the recent stable speedmod kernel from hardcore here DON'T get the development version:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822756&highlight=speedmod
depending on how you want to flash grab either the CWM or the other one which needs to be flashed via odin. Flash either or and your phone should boot with 2e. follow the instructions hardcore has posted and make sure you hit the thanks button for him .
After we have 2e installed you can grab Darky's ROM located here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814091
I used the non wipe one and didn't have issues, make sure you back your **** up before flashing anything. If you notice battery drain after you flash you could flash the wipe version just to make sure. anyways, Follow Darky's instructions to the T and dont forget to thank him
After his ROM boots, I grabbed a modem for our phones (bell, sasktel) I used JK3 because the search wasn't working last night but found this morning a link to JL2....i'm not sure if this is legit JL2 because I haven't used it but give it a shot if it doesn't work flash another on top (I can confirm JK3 works)
JL2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...1&d=1293577837
Grabbed that from a link Samdroid_G_S posted so thank him for that.
JK3: was from docs link located here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846237&highlight=bell
you can thank him for that. I used JK3 because of the issues JK4 was causing. I wouldn't use JK4 but that' up to you.
again you can use either odin or CWM to flash the modem. once you flash the modem you should be able to register on the network. you might not have internet, so you will need to go in and edit your access point name. Located in your phone here:
Settings | wireless and network | Mobile Networks | access point names
If it is blank click the menu button and New APN, all you need for sasktel's is a name, can be whatever and APN, the APN should be "inet.stm.sk.ca" without the quotes. Leave everything else default and save it. you will have to click the bullet after you created it so it knows to use it. should be good after that. For bell just do a quick google search for bell apn or bell access point name, i'm sure someone has posted on xda also.
I am not responsible if you brick your phone, this is entirely on you if that happens.
Thanks man
That's what I have been looking for . A step by step tutorial how is the rom working for you I will give it a shot . I hope sd card Won't die on me again .I can deal with other problems but what could u do when sd card dies
on u .Thanks!
Hey no problem, by default the voodoo lag fix is disabled but honestly you won't need it.....

Pretty much preference I guess. I love Darky's ROM but JL2 was good, Darky's seems faster it's built upon 2.2.1 and I read Samsung did some kernel upgrades so that's why it's faster. If you do try it out just make sure you can get into recovery and download mode first.
i can confirm that Darkys rom works, I'm running 7.6 atm. I did notice that the APN settings in my original settings were missing ports numbers for data.
I tried this and it did not work, I still don't have data connection and I am on Bell canada.
Are u still getting text's? If so then you are registered on the network, all you have to do is go into your access point names and create an entry, then highlight it after it's saved. See my post above

Got myself into a bit of a problem here, basically I upgraded my phone from 2.2 to Darky's V10 beta today, all went well and the phone is working fine, except I can't get it to connect any kind of mobile data connection. Wifi works fine, just not mobile data. Calls and texts come through fine as far as I know.
I've tried reflashing the firmware with a wipe, and have also checked the APN settings are correct, yet I still can't get any connection.
Any suggestions here guys?
I had the same problem, after trying a bunch of different things found a modem to flash, and sure enough it worked perfectly! See attached file.
Also if you're on the Captivate there might be some other options as well- I think my phone had some sort of network lock put on it that I had to fix by following some instructions involving a bit of hex editing and adb. If the new modem doesn't work I can link you to that.
EDIT: I want to clarify that it may mess up your phone as well, although I assume that at this point you know how to run odin in those kinds of situations and such
Check your APN settings for Data/internet
(menu > settings > wireless and network > mobile networks > access point names)
if these settings are blank... he will have no internet/data conection.
One its BETA .
Two have you the correct Modem and CSC in the rom for your area .
Three Ask Darky but Darky never answers helps .
Four Darky kills more phones than any other method .
Five the usual kill Darky rom fix is .
Flash Froyo 2.2 via Odin with pit 512 and repartition checked .

Yeah I know it's a beta, doesn't stop me wanting to try and make the most of it though . Thanks for the help though, turns out it was quite a funny problem. During the time I was flashing Orange's 3G network went down. So once I finished flashing I couldn't get any connection and assumed it was a problem on my end, turns out it wasn't! This morning the problem is fixed and it's all working.
If only I knew this before I spend a couple of hours trying to fix it! Oh well
Im sorry if this is covered somewhere else.
I have a Telstra NEXT G (Australian) version of Galaxy s GT-i9000
I did something stupid ........mainly because Im too much of a noob to be messing with things.
I upgraded to Darky V9.5 (after previous successful downloads of earlier versions) however I THEN messed around with an app I had downloaded from the market earlier of which I forget the name, I think it was something like ODIN or OLA or similar. Its some kind of lagfix and it changes file system or boot structure of something I have no idea about and should not have used. I selected the option for install Tools V1 and following that I have been unable to boot the phone. It is stuck on the Galaxy S Splash screen and I have no way of entering recovery mode.
I managed to get to a screen with a big yellow triangle and the Android robot working on construction - I then held the power button for a few seconds hoping for a proper reboot, but it simply returned to the Splash screen mentioned above.
I have never used programs lile ODIN - can someone talk me through steps tp fix this.
Many thanks !!!
I'm pretty sure you've messed up your filesystem in an attempt to convert it to ext4.
The correct way to apply a lagfix is usually through recovery mode (vol up+home+power while turning on) unless the kernel has a specific app for it.
If you can get into download mode then you can reflash through Odin, though you'll have to find a modem that supports Telstra's 850mhz Next-G network.
I've always disabled ext4 before flashing in Odin, so I'm not really sure how to proceed here. I'm pretty certain you'll need to flash a PDA,PHONE and CSC with a pit and repartition turned on.. but I would check with a more knowledgeable member.
theres a lot of info on this site.....

i have a working version of 2.2.1 working.
its a modifed version of 2.2.1 to look and feel like the nexus s' 2.3 or gingerbread.
its called darky's rom. its up to version 7.0 now and its working very well with telstra's next G. its the cleanest, fastest version i've used.
you can flash this on from any version of firmware I Believe.
i went straight from telstras stock firmware.
you can restore to the original version of telstras bloated 2.1 by using ODIN and the firmware from this download link:
Telstra: DVJH3 – http://rapidshare.com/files/421127995/dvjh3.rar
PW: asgardxda
heres the link to the guide. make sure you read it all before attempting.

IF you are on telstra AND you ARE NOT getting 3G or H then you can select the 850 band assuming you have the T model of the SGS.
also there is a code to get to the debug console and change the bands:
1. on the key pad, type *#*#197328640#*#*
2. Select [1] Debug Screen
3. Select [8] Phone control
4. Select [7] Network control
5. Select [2] and selection
telstra uses the wcdma band 850 (next G) and 2100 (3Telstra)
it also uses the gsm band 850 and 2100
please correct me if wrong.
NO MORE BLOATWARE! just pure android the way it was intended.
any corrections welcome. any questions please ask.

Well, msolus is quite right. You clearly made a mistake in converting the system to ext4. I suggest that you install a stock froyo firmware just in case you still want to stick with darky's rom which now currently has the v10RC6 running gingerbread which in my opinion is quite buggy.
So here it is my solution.
First, you enter download mode by using the three-button combo. Vol. down+home button+power.
Second, you need to get the files here :
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/ezbase-rom-v3-0-full-installation-guide-w-video/
Then, in case you'll get confused by the instructions there, I suggest you continue reading this.
NOTE: Make sure you have the samsung usb drivers installed before you proceed It's in the link
Okay, so you're in download mode then open the EzOdin. you'll see the ADDED message somewhere there. then tick the repartition button ( MAKE SURE YOU CHECKED REPARTITION!! )
click PDA and search for the PDA file you downloaded. the same thing applies to the CSC and PHONE ( The files are already named so maybe you can figure that out already )
after those, press start.
wait for reboot and you're good to go you have just revived your phone. lol
I suggest you try using cm7 rom it's quite better than darky's in my opinion cheers!

The program was called OCLF for rayana or something short for (One click lag fix).
OCLF
stay away from OCLF now that you are using roms like darky... search and read about ext2 lagfixes(OCLF) and ext4 lagfixes.. just download your stock 2.2 rom from samfirmware.com and you tube some videos/search xda to help you flash.
basics are.. go into download mode, triangle with digging guy... open odin, plug phone in, select pit and pda file and flash... some particular phones based on region have modem requirements, do some searching and reading
cheers
never touch anything that you don't know and research the subject before you do anything will help you a lot.
For now, go into download mode and flash the original (or any custom rom) from ODIN.
I got a GNOTE from negri on 11/9. It seems it was s polish version. It has been working wonderfully on ATT (after adding in APN manually for 3g/H+ -- voice worked out of box).
I rebooted Today (11/13) and now it has the crossed out circle instead of bars and says "Insert sim" when I start to do cellular related activities.
I have Seated and reseated; nothing. pulled the sim and put back in my SGT (phone enabled) and it works. Put back in GNOTE, still no sim detected! Stuffed SIM in my N1; it works.
Any suggestions?
I had a similar SIM card issue when I tried to activate the 1700MHz band in Service mode (for fun). Wipes and stuff didn't solve anything. The way to revert it for me was flashing a full stock Samsung firmware in Odin.
Can you provide more details on how you did this?
Where does one get a full stock sammy note firmware?
Are there some good instructions on this?
I have flashed my SGT via odin several times. Same odin? Same process?
In the development section you will find some versions.
The key for me was flashing a new Modem (Radio/base band) image via Odin I think. I changed Kernels and ROM's but only flashing a ROM including the Modem got rid of my SIM issue. Not sure because in the end I flashed a full N7000OXAKJ1 firmware in Odin from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1310513
It did the trick, though the tread is dead. I think any ROM including Modem might help, I currently running the 2.3.6 N7000ZSKK1 firmware and it is great, also included a Modem.

when this happened to me, also due to turning on 1700, I was able to reset my phone by doing a factory reset. Unless your modem.bin is corrupted, you should not have flash a new rom.

ugh....
you mean factory reset via Settings->Privacy->Factory Reset?
Tried that... No affect. Is there another way to do this?
Was hoping to fix w/o the flash. NOTE: I did go into that service menu with the 3G Freq are listed. I was curious when I saw the post. But I never changed anything. Just saw the screen and thought "neato". I wonder if there is another service screen that has an option for 'unfuck'???
Still searching for answers, before trying the ROM route...

OMG I have the EXACT same issue as you, and I got mine from NEGRI also! It was working perfectly until last night --- all of a sudden I got that circle and I've been trying to fix it since then! Please keep me posted if you find a solution, I was going to try and contact Negri tomorrow for an RMA.
still nothing.
I did a root. No changes...
I did a rom flash of kk1 ... no changes....
I was trying to reflash the modem with KJ6 modem....but have a signature failed problem...
now what???
I solved my issue by a combo of those steps.
I did full flash in Odin of jk1. When I rebooted that didn't solve things so I wanted to flash the other recommendation, kk the Chinese rom.
Upon entering recovery I noticed I lost 2e and was on 3e. So I had to download chainfire's rooted jk1 kernel and do that zerg rush to get root. It was while I was doing that that suddenly my similar got recognized. By the time it finished installing the rooter kernel I had full reception again. I flashed kk just for good measure and its been smooth since. Hope it works for you too and I'd love to know what the heck broke it in the first place??

hi fwelland, it's hk1981...so you tried the rom flash and it didn't work?
Hi hk1981,
No the KK1 rom flashed fine. By all accounts it works well, except that pesky phone part. This KK1 rom is really 'clean' and very little bloat-ware and it installs a vanilla boot animation (not a carrier one). All that is nice, but didn't help my problem
I did notice a peculiar thing: while in recovery (android recovery, not cwm) I get some warning about "CSC something or other, fixing".
I have a short list of things to try before I have exhausted my DIY options -- the post just above looks promising.
I think the answer is out there. We just need to keep looking and keep attention on this thread and others like it. This place and others like it are a huge help and I'd like to solve it and then give back a good set of instructions.
FWIW: I wonder if there was some voodoo in the polish rom that caused some issues in the modem when a different than expected sim was installed? Or if one of those funky polish apps that updated it self before I could turn off auto-updates has something to do with it (doubt this -- I don't think apps can do stuff unless rooted...)...
Still searching....I got this other pesky problem to deal with now: w-o-r-k

I had that problem too, it doesn't detect that CSC and then goes ahead and applies something. Check to see if you are in 3e recovery, I think you are after having flashed vanilla JK1.
Re-flash Chainfire's rooted kernal for your appropriate version and then go back into recovery and it should be 3e and you can flash thru CWM then.
Also note; each time I flashed, I also wiped data/cache/davlik just to be sure.
yes it does say:
Code:
Android system recover (3e).
So I will need to try the methods you (crippenx) suggested.
FWIW, the CSC message that I get when I first enter recovery is:
Code:
# MANUAL MODE #
--Updating application...
Successfully update application.
--Appling Multi-CSC...
Installing Multi-CSC
Applied the CSC-code 'TGY'
Sucessfully applied multi-CSC.
I have no idea what this means. It does it every time I enter recovery.
FWIW, I never flashed this gnote with ODIN (I have used ODIN on my SGT several times). I got to KK1 by first rooting via http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360 (using 'forget the above steps') and then using the CWM 'kk1-wipe.zip' from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342797 -- I didn't use ODIN to get to kk1.
I see on the Root/Unroot thread, there is a KK1 kernel option for 'simple'. I think I will try that with rooted already script.
But I am open to any/all suggestions...

whoa....
when I try that procedure (* # * # 1 9 7 3 2 8 6 4 0 # * # * ) I get a pretty empty screen...can't do much of anything...just some useless buttons on the bottom of screen when I select the menu button...
I think I recall seeing another number for doing a similar thing...

My rough guess is that the phone has a list of 'valid service menu options', and it cross references it with what is on the SIM card.
Once the phone decides it's not going to read your sim card, the service menu is blank. This is a real headache.
That's why once I set the 1700+2100 combo, and my phone boycotted my sim, I wasn't able to set it back.
That's really dumb, imho, to have a one way toggle like that. I'm fine for settings to enable/disable other settings, but for a setting to disable itself? ugh.
I would really like to know what's going on. I was planning on switching to AT&T before my next trip (which is soon) but I can't risk my phone glitching out like that during the trip.
Actually, the ROM is on my SD card so I guess it wouldn't be THAT horrible, but it's certainly not something I want to do. Perhaps we just need a way to flash back the modem.bin, assuming it's corrupted.

Sorry typo on my part. You are in 3e recovery because of that base flash, now you need 2e recovery which you can get via chainfire's rooted kernel. His installation procedure runs a batch file that uses that zerg rush exploit which I gather is partially from gingerbreak. It was during this procedure that my baseband suddenly came back, my sim card finally detected.
Once that was done, I entered 2e cwm with volume up,power, middle button and did erase of data, cache, davlik and then flashed kk rom via zip file.

yes it does say:
Code:
Android system recover (3e).
So I will need to try the methods you (crippenx) suggested.
FWIW, the CSC message that I get when I first enter recovery is:
Code:
# MANUAL MODE #
--Updating application...
Successfully update application.
--Appling Multi-CSC...
Installing Multi-CSC
Applied the CSC-code 'TGY'
Sucessfully applied multi-CSC.
I have no idea what this means. It does it every time I enter recovery.

For me flashing all partitions via Odin worked (no pit file or repartition). Tried all sort of stuff from recovery first with no result.
I don't know what partition flash from Odin did the trick, but you could try Odin flashing a Modem separately and check if that works. If not try the rest?
Finally got back to this.
After much fusing I finally got KK1 and cwm working. It was odd, I had to re-run the whole root process again.
At that point I could apply the KJ6 modem w/o any problems (via cwm)
no dice!
Still dead!
Not sure where to go next???
Can some one provide a few details about flashing a modem, rom and/or kernel via ODIN? Perhaps that method will work....

Oh when you flashed jk1 I assumed you did it the old way via Odin and the multiple files. That's how I did it and you're right, that may be what fixed it as when I used to brick my sgs and sgs2, it was always a full Odin flash of stock that brought it back from the dead
To flash in Odin put your phone in download mode. Fire up Odin. In csc point to csc file. In phone section point to modem and for PDA you point to the code file. Don't put anything for pit or bootloader and unchecked the repartition toggle.
Connect your phone and wait for Odin to detect it and show yellow in the status window. Press start and you're good to go. Hope this does it!
