No Data Connection After Darky's 2.3 Update - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Got myself into a bit of a problem here, basically I upgraded my phone from 2.2 to Darky's V10 beta today, all went well and the phone is working fine, except I can't get it to connect any kind of mobile data connection. Wifi works fine, just not mobile data. Calls and texts come through fine as far as I know.
I've tried reflashing the firmware with a wipe, and have also checked the APN settings are correct, yet I still can't get any connection.
Any suggestions here guys?

I had the same problem, after trying a bunch of different things found a modem to flash, and sure enough it worked perfectly! See attached file.
Also if you're on the Captivate there might be some other options as well- I think my phone had some sort of network lock put on it that I had to fix by following some instructions involving a bit of hex editing and adb. If the new modem doesn't work I can link you to that.
EDIT: I want to clarify that it may mess up your phone as well, although I assume that at this point you know how to run odin in those kinds of situations and such

Check your APN settings for Data/internet
(menu > settings > wireless and network > mobile networks > access point names)
if these settings are blank... he will have no internet/data conection.

One its BETA .
Two have you the correct Modem and CSC in the rom for your area .
Three Ask Darky but Darky never answers helps .
Four Darky kills more phones than any other method .
Five the usual kill Darky rom fix is .
Flash Froyo 2.2 via Odin with pit 512 and repartition checked .

Yeah I know it's a beta, doesn't stop me wanting to try and make the most of it though . Thanks for the help though, turns out it was quite a funny problem. During the time I was flashing Orange's 3G network went down. So once I finished flashing I couldn't get any connection and assumed it was a problem on my end, turns out it wasn't! This morning the problem is fixed and it's all working.
If only I knew this before I spend a couple of hours trying to fix it! Oh well

[Q] No 3G connection

I recently flashed Darkyy's Gingerbread v8 and I cannot receive a 3G connection.
I have selected and unselected the "use packet data" and "data roaming" options as well as downloaded an app to turn on data connections incase it was needed, however still no luck.
I have WiFi connection, signal for messaging and calls.
Any help appreciated as I cannot find anything anywhere
SGS l9000
I would ask the rom developer .

Thanks, I've already sent a message
Do you know if it's safe to do a factory reset? Will this just take me back to 2.1 eclair?
It will not reset to ur stock firmware it will just delete all apps and settings. Did u check if u have any entries under settings/wireless settings/mobile network/access point names/ ? If not u should go on ur carriers page and resend the mms / internet settings.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
did you create the APN entry in Wireless settings?
Shrooms and Allgamer - No I havent got anything under APN.
How do I go about that?
(currently searching google - for some info)
I managed to find from my providers website the details for the "Internet" APN my 3G is working thanks for your help.
My WiFi is broke now though. Im presuming this is something to do with settings as well, if anyone knows why this is happening.
I am connected to the network I just have no data coming through.
Thanks
1. NEVER DO A FACTORY RESET AFTER INSTALLING A CUSTOM ROM! - Doing a factory reset will unroot your phone leaving a ROM/files installed on your phone that would only survive if the phone was rooted sometimes causing major issues.
2. Check to make sure you still have your IMEI. Use SGS toolbox (free) From the market. If you don't then use search on xda as there is a fix
3. It might be a modem issue. Try another modem from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9724862&postcount=14434 *If you are a bell, fido customer* or use a carrier that runs the 850 band then you should try to follow the instructions I have posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10533852&postcount=2525
Let me know how you go
Sorry I've just fixed it, I remembered I installed and APP called DroidWall and I never selected it to use WiFi...Sorry my fault.
Thaks everyone for your help, learned alot about my phone.

[Q] Data Connection Problems

Hey
For the last day I've been having problems getting my data connection to work.
I recently disabled HSPA to reduce battery consumption, just leaving it at 3G via the service menu *#301279#. It worked fine until I had updated my firmware (to Darky's Rom 9.5).
I'm back to Darky's Rom 9.3 (which worked flawlessly for weeks) after having disabled all lagfixes and doing a full wipe of /system; /cache; dalvik etc. Now, I can't get a working data connection, be it EDGE, 3G or HSPA. Only very rarely will it connect, and when it does the actuial connection seems to work.
In the service menu, under phone information, GSM Disconnects:
========DATA========
State: DcInactiveState
Disconnected at [various times]
fail because Insufficient Resources
The Question:
Is there some way to completely reset the service menu to defaults? And undo whatever silliness I've caused?
Phone Details:
Model: GT-I9000 (8GB)
Firmware 2.2.1
Baseband: I9000XXJPY
Kernel: Speedmod-k13c-500Hz
Darky's Rom v9.3.XWJS5
Update:
Flashed back to to Stock Firmware to rule out issues related to that. Still can't establish a connection.
Problem and how you describe it sound for me that it is not your phone which is causing this but your service provider... do you have this issue everywhere all the time?

I haven't had a chance to leave the house yet, but I'll see what happens in the morning, and go for a nice sunday stroll .
If it worked then its the rom you flashed .
It requires a full clean install of a stock rom with pit and repartition .

That's precisely what I did. Didn't make myself clear enough.
Just the rooted and removed the sim lock from the phone and inserted a SIM from another provider, using their default APN; that worked just fine. this leads me to conclude that it's, as MPKO said, not the phone; but rather the original APN settings, the SIM or indeed the provider.
Thanks for your suggestions, guys, it looks like it's pretty close to being sorted out.
Its most likely you have the wrong CSC for your network .
Rom Kitchin can build your rom and include your choice of CSC .

I had a look at my CSC files and found that they, while present, were outdated. Fixed that. Sadly, what isn't fixed are my connection woes.
It turns our that the provider is doing some infrastructure upgrades in the area and forgot to mention this to anyone, including local staff, until this morning. Offline-ness for a another week. Sigh.
I'd like to say: BIG THANK YOU to everyone who offered suggestions. You've been great. It was good to be able to try things rather than sit around being frustrated and wondering whether I should let the insurance handle it...
You r welcome, niceto be able to help.
Fyi that info what you provided was helping with the conclusion, "insufficient resources" sent by your modem.
Cheers!

Recovered from camera problem...now dealing with network issue!! PLEASE HELP!!

A few months ago, i had the non-function problem with my camera after using the firmware update code, on my SG I9000. I resolved that with some help from a friend, by downgrading to Eclair (JM1_JM1_U_JM1.tar) and switching the camera files - the usual method. After reboot, the camera was working fine but appeared the problem with the network - "NO SERVICE".
Till now, I used different versions of android (Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread) to fix it without any luck.
If you know any other method, i'll owe you one big time.
Thanx!
Note: I have to say that, before having the camera issue, I unlocked my rooted phone using "GALAXY_S UNLOCK" from Android Market.
maybe you can try to flash your phone to the latest firmware such as XXJVU by using odin.
have you rooted your phone again after using different android version? if not, try rooting it, then unlock it with apps from the market, this would fix the "no service" problem.
you could also try flashing it with a different modem.

I tried flashing with different modem but without any good result until now. Today I'll try again with a different modem (something with a file "7zip" transformed in a folder ".tar"...I'm new with this, i know nothing about it so a friend is helping me).
If this doesn't work, I'm trying the rooting method you're telling me about.
Thanx for all!
The JVT modem is pretty god as well. you can flash the tar or zip files by using sgs kernel flasher from market or by odin.

Thanx guys!
It seems that I resolved it, using the I9000XXJVU_I9000OXAJVU_OXA modem (Open Europe). At first, when the phone rebooted there was no signal...it appeared that the problem persisted, but now, after the factory reset (*2767*3855# ) everything seems to work just fine.
Still, I don't remember if SGS signal icon shows the 3G indicator in the upper taskbar (like the SGS 2), because mine doesn't! Can anyone confirm if it's wright or not?
Last edit: It seems the 3G doesn't work, as i tried to access the internet an icon pops saying "No network connection / Cannot connect to internet. Please check your connection settings and try again" - "Settings" and "Ok". If I press "Settings", it takes me to the "Wireless and Network" Menu.
SO, ANY CLUE?
Thanx again!
Have you tried flashing a different modem? What carrier are you on and what modem are you currently using?
Had a bit of a browser glitch, there were zero replies a minute ago.

I'm using an Orange Romania prepay card...and now the installed version is I9000XXJVU (the latest 2.3.6 - Open Europe).
I have signal but without 3G, i think, cause the internet connection doesn't work...only wi-fi does.
with the 3g problem, i think you need to edit your apn settings.
settings > wireless and network > mobile network settings > access point names
this is network specific and you might want to check it with your provider

I'll check the APN settings later today, after work, and if the problem persist I'll take it to Orange Romania.
I'll let you know the result!
Thanx everyone for your help!

I got home, set on my SGS the same APN settings from the SGS-2 I'm using now with the Orange Romania card, and it seems to work...at least I don't get the "No network connection / Cannot connect to internet" message anymore and the H/3G icon now appears near the signal icon in the upper taskbar.
I stiil have to run some tests to be 100% sure it really works.
I'll be in touch!

Maybe your APN is wrong.

To check APN
To check APN's you go to settings and goto wireless and networks then mobile networks and then access point names and your carrier should be setup in there if its not go here to find the settings http://ausdroid.net/apns/
A little help from a noob
Well, I've gotta start somewhere. Maybe someone can help push this out from here so more can see it, but I may have a fix that could help. I've have an Evo 4g Supersonic on CM7.2 that somehow lost its 3g data connectivity. Searching searching for APN settings, numerous calls and chats to Sprint (no help), it was finally a call to HTC that helped.
From CM7, I couldn't find a way to update my PRL and Profile. Essentially, those options are "Sense" and not on CM7, so I had to find a way to get to those settings.
Basically, I flashed a Stock ROM (5.07.651.1_Supersonic_Stock_Rooted_CPTB_v2.3-DEODEXED), updated PRL and Profile, then flashed back to my CM7 I backed up before I started this journey.
Works. All is well now. Hope this helps. I'll check back to answer questions if I can be of any more help.
Now, a disclaimer, I'm newish and/or limited in my understanding of how to toy with the Android system, so...as I've noted on many forums across the net, some people will push a "duh, why didn't you know that, noob" kind of approach. Well, go for it, but realize it's rare someone will get on a bike and know how to ride it. We all started somewhere. With that, please feel free to abbreviate, fix, and repost what I have here so this info gets out to the world. This is my FIRST post, so it's likely rife with mistakes. The intention is good.

well .... this is the same scenario with my GT-S5570i ...
Mobile data connection on my GT-S5570i with GB2.3.6 is working fine ...
but after upgraded to Jellyblast then MDC is not working ....
what I did was the change the CSC code ...
To change CSC code on your mobile ...
check your IMEI number by dial *#06# and write it down ...
(u can also check by go to setting > About phone > Status > IMEI )
after that dial *#272*YourIMEINumber# and you will see the multi CSC screen ... (if your ROM support multi CSC)
choose your country CSC and tap on install ....
phone will install and reboot itself ....
after that try your MDC again ....
hope that it should work ....

[Q] 3g not woriking after installing a cutom rom.

So, I recently installed CM9 and on top of that SlimBean 2.6. Both worked otherwise perfectly, but I couldn't get my 3g connetion to work on either one, unless I turned "National Roaming" on. I checked the Acces Point Name settings, and they seem to be fine. I can't find my service provider on the Network operators list though. I read that a new modem migth do the trick, but I have no idea if that will help or which modem to choose.
I had a similar problem after going to CM9. I even had my APN (access point names) settings disappear randomly also.
Solution for me was to turn 'airplane mode' on....wait 30 seconds then turn off.
Strange as it sounds but it actually worked for me. But in the end, (after 1 day) I changed to samsungized 12.1 JB rom because I found that I had to use that airplane mode on/off alot and was too much of a pain.
Hope this helps.
If not, I'd revert back to a stock rom then upgrade to a stable JB rom
Tried just that, but no luck so far. Any other suggestions?

Id recommend trying a good stable stock rom with a 512_pit repartition via Odin, just to see it it improves the modem or not.
The rom im going to suggest has a replacement Modem file within.
Might sort the problem.
Ive used this stock rom to fix my many problems ive had after custom roms.( Mainly format errors i had )
Its from 'HotFile' site and took me around 20 mins to download it.
But it might be worth the wait in your case.
Rom File:
http://hotfile.com/dl/140301534/be8872c/I9000XXJVU_I9000OXAJVU_OXA.rar.html
Here Is the Pit File and Odin version I used. ( 3rd box down the page )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881
And heres the Root file. Get " CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVU_2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS " :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15188469
s1_odin_20100512.pit Goes in PIT ( repartition checked )
CODE_I9000XXJVU_CL851880_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5 Goes in PDA
GT-I9000-CSC-MULTI-OXAJVU.tar.md5 Goes in CSC
MODEM_I9000XXJVU_REV_00_CL1092175.tar.md5 Goes in phone
Sorry if im telling you what you already know with how to use Odin, just making sure.
After rom install pop this root on with Odin via download mode.
CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVU_2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS goes in PDA
I reckon its worth a shot.
Must make sure the 3 wipes are done before the rom install. I learned this the hard way and messed my
phone up for a while.
Problem solved! I did some googling around, and found a solution. Apparently my carrier, Saunalahti, is known for having problems with 3g on custom roms. I found out that a nexus s modem by the name of i9020AUCKF1 might work. And sure enough, it did the trick! No more roaming! Anyway, thanks for taking the time to help me!
