Deleting Update file before install - Nook Color General

So I had my rooted noon running fine and told ROM Manager to reboot and make a backup. It did, but after rebooting, got stuck in a boot loop. I checked the forums and saw the news about the latest update. I think the update was downloaded to my device and attempted to install after rebooting.
So, I am able to restore from the backup file I made, but this of course puts me back in the position where the update tries to install right after rebooting. Where is the OTA update file stored, and is there anyway I can delete this file from within Clockwork Recovery?

[Q] Booting PAST recovery...cannot apparently root.

Been flashing ROMs for months.Going back to stock then update..
With this last flash to Stock and after applying Update through recovery the phone will not root.
After reinstall packages after Update was applied the phone just boots and does not go into second recovery screen.
SU was never installed.
Any ideas what mucked up the Stock flash tp where One click or update root does not work?

"Install Failed" when booting into CWM?

So I had alot of issues rooting but im finally in, all rooted. Downloaded ROM Manager from the market and installed CWM. Says its successful, but when I manually reboot into CWM i get a error, so I cant install the 1.1 fix
Any ideas?
Really no one knows? This sucks!
This normally happens when recovery is not flashed properly. Did you try flashing again via Rom Manager? Also when you flash, does the screen show something like "Rom Manager has been granted super user permissions"?
ya, it flashes successfully through rom manager....
I think the problem is when I was trying to go back to 1.0.1 I flashed a restore through CWM. Then I whiped the /system and /data folders. The directions said to do this but I didnt realize I was supposed to do this BEFORE flashing not after. Basically I had no restore partition left so when I went and let it fail to boot 8x i got a error, and i had no OS. I ended up doing the N/Pwr, it restored, then i got a bootable CWM, booted into it and flashed the 1.0.1. But not everything seems, odd.
I can go into Rom Manager and install CWM fine, it says installation successful. But if I reboot into recovery, I get the error. I really need this fixed but im thinking it may be easier to just use a bootable CWM. Any ideas? I need to get 1.1 on here before I lose root

I fixed this by downloading the latest busybox from the market, installed it, then ran the "fix permissions" from Rom Manager. I then reinstalled the latest CWM, and it would allow me to reboot into recovery.

[Q] Froyo to GRJ22 question

Hi all,
I think I have to finally update my rooted Nexus 2.2.1 to the latest GB because the update nagging is driving me crazy :-(
So anyhow, can somebody tell me if this will work as expected (outcome should be rooted GB 2.3.4)
1. I have latest ClockworkMod Recovery installed
2. I grabbed the official update from /cache. Build.prop says it's GRJ22. Size is 89MB. The zip contains the update plus boot.img and radio.img
3. Renamed the file to update.zip and placed on root of sdcard
4. placed su.zip and fix-recovery.zip in the root of sdcard
So the plan is to reboot into recovery, flash the update.zip. Flash su.zip. Flash fix-recovery.zip and finally reboot.
The outcome should be a rooted GB 2.3.4 with all my apps and settings still present. Will this process work?
Thanks
Raf
Edit zip file and remove recovery image.
i wanna know if the wonk issue in grj22 has been solved..
anyone know?
Flash as a zip from sd, not as an update...
Thanks it worked
And special thanks to bohlool for saving my butt. Per his suggestion I removed the recovery image from the zip file prior to installing and it saved my root because the update rebooted the phone after installing it without giving me a chance to install su.zip.
Thanks again.
Raf
If you flash as a zip from SD, instead of as an update, your phone doesn't reboot...
I did just that, in CWM I selected flash zip, selected the file on SD, and confirmed. I started flashing, then rebooted once, then rebooted a second time and finally booted in the OS. Because I removed the recovery from the update, it did not reflash the recovery and I was able to reboot into CWM recovery and apply the su.zip update (and this time it did not reboot on it's own).
Btw, my GRJ22 update was 89MB vs 6MB what has been posted here as an official update.
Raf
Yeah, removing the recovery from the zip is possibly an easier way. My comment was for anyone who didn't know how to remove the recovery, our didn't feel comfortable doing it, etc...
You are welcome

I apply any update like this, full updates you need to remove image file, and partial updates, you need to remove recovery folder. This way, you will keep your recovery and can flash su and other zips later.
cheers.

accidently wiped my system and cant get back into safetrap

i was trying to update knoxraid but i was stupid and not paying attention and wiped, then didnt install the update, and rebooted into download to install the get booting portion, and now dont know what i should flash to get back into safetrap or knoxraid. i can get into download and stock recovery, is there a way to install safetrap from odin? im downloading all the restore files in the meantime but sheesh is the fix.img taking forever

[Q] KidMode-Google.odex has unexpected contents

Happy new year too all of you!
I want to update the firmware of my rooted HTC One from 6.09.401.10 to 609.401.11. For this I changed my recovery back to stock recovery and defrosted all the pre-installed apps. At about 25% the update turned to a red triangle with exclamation mark. The error message stated: "/system/app/KidMode-Google.odex has unexpected contents". This was no surprise because I removed KidMode instead of freezing it. I looked for a Nandroid Backup on XDA and had no problem finding several backups. The most recent version I found had firmware version 6.09.401.5. I copied the KidMode-Google.odex file from the Nandroid backup file to /system/app on my phone. I also installed Kidmode from the Google Play store and made it a system app with Titanium Backup. I thought this would solve the problem so the firmware could be updates, but I still get the same error when trying to update to 6.09.401.11. Is there any way to check if I have the correct version of KidMode-Google.odex?
Is there anyone who can help me with this problem?

Flash TWRP
restore this backup
flash stock recovery
update
or you can try to extract the file from the nandroid, push it to the correct location and set permission
