Since upgrading to CM6 Stable I haven't been able to playback mp3 files. Subsonic gives me the error "Prepare failed.: status=-x1 (IOException)". Music player states the device does not support this file type.
I am able to play FLAC files though. looking in /system/lib I do see the flac library but I don't see one for mp3 (I don't know the specific name, I'm comparing against my Vibrant). Any idea how to restore the mp3 codec libraries?
Debug from com.android.media
Debug from com.android.music
try reflashing cm6, also dont forget to do a wipe
Alright, I did a wipe/factory reset via clockwork then flashed update-cm-6.0.0-N1-signed.zip
After booting I opened music player and tried playing an mp3 file with the same result, flac works but mp3 doesn't
Edit: I tried to flash a stock firmware via adb flash_image. Flashed the system and boot to revert then installed CM6, no change.
Have you tried the default music player? 2.2 has a new media framework, some apps might need updating.

God damn, I finally did a complete reset to stock flashing system.img, boot.img then wiping /data followed by flashing CM6 and everything is working again.

Just to be sure that I have the same problem. I am able to play SOME files while others don´t work at all (gives me the "not recognized" error). ID3 tags do not appear in the phone, but I can see them in my PC.
I tried transferring files from my PC, downloading directly to the phone (DropBox and MP3Download) and most of the files don´t work, only a few do....strange.
Searched and found some people who had issues when upgrading to Froyo, but before flashing CM6 I had already updated to FRF91 Froyo build and had no problems with music files, so I am assuming something happened when flashing CM6. Other problem might be I bought a new 16Gb SD Card some days ago (just when I flashed CM6), so I have yet to be sure which one is guilty.
Well, just to be sure if I have to reset and flash again.
I have phiremod nook V5.1 with OC Kernel everything is working great some video is choppy what is the best video player to use for MP4's converted with Handbrake?

I have yet to get a decent quality video ripped from a bluray (1080p) to play smoothly on any CM7-based roms, or even the straight CM7 nightly build with OC added.
I've tried a number of settings, plists and players (including mobo) and they all either skip frames, cause audio sync issues part-way into the movie, or play the movie like it's slightly slowed down. Pretty frustrating.
These same videos play fine on the stock rooted NC though, so it's obviously a CM7/Gingerbread issue still.
Guess I'll just have to wait patiently until the dev's get the video acceleration/audio issues figured out...
Hi glenairlie,
I tried installing Mobo using adb push to system/apps and when I load it it just crashes. Do I need to changer permissions? if you to what? How did you install and get it working
Thanks

I downloaded the mobo_1.0.129_v7_neon.apk file from the mobo website, copied it to dropbox on my PC, opened the file through dropbox on my NC and installed it that way.
Thanks I forget about drop box. So in my nooking around I used adb to push to to my system/apps directory. I then went into file manager open installed app. for some reason when I open it up it does not regonize any media files mp4 blah blah blah. It is like it doesn't have read access to directory where mp4's are located. I tried to delete app but when I went to settings applications it was not showing up as installed app. I also tried deleting apk file in in file manager and it would not let me.
So How do I delete app that is not showing up in setting applications.
Thanks

You could try changing permissions with the Fix Permissions in Rom Manager, or you could try adb uninstall mobo_1.0.132_v7_neon.apk (or whatever your apk file is called).
MoboPlayer is epic.
Hi there,
Few days ago I noticed that MX Video Player (v1.5a) that I am using is not showing anymore list of my videos in content folder. I tried following without success:
- create new folders on internal & external SD cards
- unmount/mount all SD cards
- uninstall/install MX Video Player
- wipe ROM and install complete new fresh ROM (chivato's)
All above not helped to solve this problem!
Anyway, existing video folder in ext. SD Card is still vissible to default LG video player and also to File Expert, Root Explorer, etc. and can browse and start playing all my videos with MX Video Player but I inside app (Folders) is still notice: No videos were found!
Any clue?
Cheers
EDIT: After support from MX Video Player team, my mystery is finally solved. In player preferences was checked feature '.nomedia recognition' on Preferences > List? It should be turned off to scan all files ignoring existence of .nomedia file!
Thank you all for help and specially MX player support!
That happens to my mx player too. However, once I open the file from my ES Explorer (and pause it and exit the explorer), I can go back in mx and it will see all the videos.
Also, make sure you double check your mx player settings and make sure that it's not excluding the folders you want to find.

I tried like you told, but still no luck. Also, my video folders are checked but MX video player just can not find my files??? Unbeliveable...
I even tried to restore through CWM my older backups and MX player still don't want to list my video files!
Cheers
Or maybe it has got something to do with the way ROM functions ? I'm on the stock ROM and so far things are good. No app has behaved abnormally, ever. Only when I try to play video files that requires some codec not provided out-of-the box that it enters into a loop and it crashes.
Try some other app to see if the problem persists or it could be that the problem seems to be somewhere else
there a setting in the menu wich permits to specify the path of your videos and
add a lot of folders .. i think this will solve the problem
Hello,
I was using MX Video player with ROMs stock v20L and rebuild v20o, v20q without any problems until few days ago. I did not change anything on ROM or apps preferences. Just opened app and list of videos were not showed anymore. After several reinstalls, I even tried to install fresh copy of new ROM (chivato's FLEXBOMB) after wiping all data/cache/dalvik and then MX player but still without succes to get my video list inside. Today I installed Mobo Player and my video folders are accesible normally through Mobo!
When I browse videos through several explorers like ES File Explorer or File Expert, my video folders are visible to them and MX video player starts to run video without any problem but when I choose my folders inside MX player refresh don't work. I tried/checked all suggestion from official FAQ http://sites.google.com/site/mxvpen/faq#TOC-I-installed-MX-Video-Player-but-vid bit still have no luck! I don't know what could be problem...
have you tried to go in applications installer, delete cache and data?
have you tried to delete the mx folder and reinstalled the app?

Yes, tried that all before! No help so far!
I even tried to restore my backup through CWM where all system was OK for sure, but even then MX player won't find folders. Realy strange!
pls go in mx player setting and plz send me what's the path there..
After plz send me the path of your multimedia files..
Cheers
I was hoping this would solve your problem
If you still don't see video files, the files may be set as hidden. To get around this, go to [Preference]->[Video list] and make sure "Display hidden files" is checked and ".nomedia recognition" is unchecked. Press "Refresh" after you changed the preference
Or
You can try placing a single video file on root directory and see if MX fetches it for you. If it doesn't then something permanent has happened.
Which is wierd

Paths are in both ways same, this is not problem. I found only strange when I add paths to my folders (I have one folder on int. SD card & one on my ext. SD card) and checked them, after I exit preferences and enter preferereces again, paths are still there but they are unchecked again??? Please, can someone check in his settings are paths to video directories are checked? I don't know why this can not be saved in my preferences!

I am using this player since 1st release and I am familiar with his settings but now I am kind of crazy because this wierd behaviour. Think I call Mulder & Scully, it seems they are having new case right now

Opened my MXPlayer, and all folders are unselected too. It seems that as long as they're there, you're fine.
I have mnt/emmc and mnt/sdcard paths in it.
Can you try another 3rd party video player, see if it will work?

Hi,
I received answer from MX Player support that new v1.6 which is avaliable for download have improved search for folders. Just installed and still have same problem. After that I decided to start from beggining again. Reboot to CWM, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik cache, clean install ROM - rebuild of v20q update, download MX player from market and problem still persist. When I open MX Player I got message: No videos were found. Tried all with both SD Cards - internal & external! Just want to notice again. I also tried Mobo player and he is working normally - found all my videos in specified folders which MX player can not! Now, I am lost all my ideas for possible solutions. 10 days ago everything was fine. I did not change anything, just one day want to play some videos on my phone and my nightmares stared. Ok, I will accept some hardware failure but why Mobo player is working and also stock video player. They are seeing my folders normally. So that means my hardware is ok (phone and SD cards) and video files also. I can browse my video files through File Expert and choose MX player - he is playing files normally but only can not scan them any more! I realy like this player and don't want give up of him! Any new help will be welcome!
Cheers

Hello,
Today i just bought an HTC One (Great Device btw...) and i can't figure out how to refresh my music library (Stock Music App). I copied my music files via network from my NAS to phone's music folder but the application can't see them.
Any ideas except using another music player or using USB Cable to sync music with pc?
Thanks in advance!

Connect with USB cable to a PC or laptop, wait till device will be recognized and connected (will appear in the explorer as a drive), then disconnect. all files downloaded through wireless network will be recognized.
Alternative way - to download files from cloud services, like dropbox, instead of over Wi-Fi using ES File explorer from home computer etc. Looks like a bug in HTC firmware, but this workaround works not only for music files... Don't ask me how and why, no idea.

Thanks for your reply, but my computer cannot see my phone as mass storage device. Unless there is an option for that.
I had the same problem. I had to transfer all the music, pics and vides to a sdcard, put it to my older N7000 and used HTC transfer tool (get it from google play). Also, I wanted to transfer few wallpapers from my pc to One. I did it using HTC sync manager and it worked. Maybe, you should try using desktop sync manager before trying the transfer tool app.
Just a quick question boys n girls,
Have you got patter lock or password activated?
It wont let you read the device till its unlocked (on connection to your pc)
As for the music not showing, I've had the same issue.
I downloaded a load of my old music directly to phone, moved it all to keep it all in my music folder, all vanished out of stock music app....
I've seen people saying its a media scanner issue, but turning off and on should force it to scan again, but still wouldn't update.
I think its stored as a cache some where, had the same issue on HD2's. When you wiped the folder with "short cuts to music",
The phone would re scan and re populate with new shortcuts to the same place.
Still looking for the this "cache" folder lol. in the mean time, I just moved my music back to the downloaded folder, boom, and its back in the music app.
Has anybody found an answer to this?
Before the 1.29 update it worked fine. . . Now ive updated i got this issue. Grrrr.....

I ended up moving all files to my pc, dragging them into Windows media player and syncing up using Wmp. HTC sync manager is a joke IMO. I did this for both music and pictures and they all show up now in music and gallery apps. Assuming it's a bug for the app to not just recognize these folders automatically.
You could try deleting the cache of the media storage app in system settings>apps>all.. but be careful with this as it could cause issues with your ringtones and notifications..

I just dont get it though because it was fine before update. . . I dont use Sync Managers, WMP or HTC... lol... i add files manualy via Explorer and Mass Storage etc... Really Strange. . .

I did this and it worked, but every time i want to transfer files via es explorer between my nas and my phone i must delete the cache and reboot. This is not a permanent solution and htc must do something. It's really annoying every time i want to transfer music to connect my phone via usb.

It is weird - I know when I had my first One, I used HTC transfer utility for the initial transfer of files, and I was able to get new files to show up.. But when I exchanged the phone I used my PC to transfer files to the 2nd One, and can't get it to see new files.
I really don't want to be tied to a PC for sync'ing just to use the stock music player. I can confirm that Power Amp does see all music files.

Yes the above works but what if you want to use a file explorer app to copy music wirelessly from e.g. a NAS to your music folder? I did it and it didn't work. To see the files i must connect my phone via USB to my pc. My Note II and Xperia Z refreshed the music library every time the folder music changed wirelessly or not.
