Hello,
Today i just bought an HTC One (Great Device btw...) and i can't figure out how to refresh my music library (Stock Music App). I copied my music files via network from my NAS to phone's music folder but the application can't see them.
Any ideas except using another music player or using USB Cable to sync music with pc?
Thanks in advance!

Connect with USB cable to a PC or laptop, wait till device will be recognized and connected (will appear in the explorer as a drive), then disconnect. all files downloaded through wireless network will be recognized.
Alternative way - to download files from cloud services, like dropbox, instead of over Wi-Fi using ES File explorer from home computer etc. Looks like a bug in HTC firmware, but this workaround works not only for music files... Don't ask me how and why, no idea.

Thanks for your reply, but my computer cannot see my phone as mass storage device. Unless there is an option for that.
I had the same problem. I had to transfer all the music, pics and vides to a sdcard, put it to my older N7000 and used HTC transfer tool (get it from google play). Also, I wanted to transfer few wallpapers from my pc to One. I did it using HTC sync manager and it worked. Maybe, you should try using desktop sync manager before trying the transfer tool app.
Just a quick question boys n girls,
Have you got patter lock or password activated?
It wont let you read the device till its unlocked (on connection to your pc)
As for the music not showing, I've had the same issue.
I downloaded a load of my old music directly to phone, moved it all to keep it all in my music folder, all vanished out of stock music app....
I've seen people saying its a media scanner issue, but turning off and on should force it to scan again, but still wouldn't update.
I think its stored as a cache some where, had the same issue on HD2's. When you wiped the folder with "short cuts to music",
The phone would re scan and re populate with new shortcuts to the same place.
Still looking for the this "cache" folder lol. in the mean time, I just moved my music back to the downloaded folder, boom, and its back in the music app.
Has anybody found an answer to this?
Before the 1.29 update it worked fine. . . Now ive updated i got this issue. Grrrr.....

I ended up moving all files to my pc, dragging them into Windows media player and syncing up using Wmp. HTC sync manager is a joke IMO. I did this for both music and pictures and they all show up now in music and gallery apps. Assuming it's a bug for the app to not just recognize these folders automatically.
You could try deleting the cache of the media storage app in system settings>apps>all.. but be careful with this as it could cause issues with your ringtones and notifications..
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
I just dont get it though because it was fine before update. . . I dont use Sync Managers, WMP or HTC... lol... i add files manualy via Explorer and Mass Storage etc... Really Strange. . .
Tried that and didnt work, just performed a factory reset, will see if that works....

I did this and it worked, but every time i want to transfer files via es explorer between my nas and my phone i must delete the cache and reboot. This is not a permanent solution and htc must do something. It's really annoying every time i want to transfer music to connect my phone via usb.
I fectory reset my phone and A-OK! All works fine now. . . Bit Bizarre! Unless some something in my storage or an app colided with it, i couldnt tell ya!

It is weird - I know when I had my first One, I used HTC transfer utility for the initial transfer of files, and I was able to get new files to show up.. But when I exchanged the phone I used my PC to transfer files to the 2nd One, and can't get it to see new files.
I really don't want to be tied to a PC for sync'ing just to use the stock music player. I can confirm that Power Amp does see all music files.

ok, so what if you download a new song or transfer it from a PC to your music directory, does that new file show up in the music player? I'm about to transfer all my files from my phone to my PC again

so you did a full factory reset (wiping data/pictures)? And once completed, manually dragged the files into the /sdcard/music folder and /sdcard/DCIM folder?

I was starting to think that HTC had stuffed us on this one - there's no way I was going to be using HTC Sync Manager!
All works like normal now.

Yes the above works but what if you want to use a file explorer app to copy music wirelessly from e.g. a NAS to your music folder? I did it and it didn't work. To see the files i must connect my phone via USB to my pc. My Note II and Xperia Z refreshed the music library every time the folder music changed wirelessly or not.

I reporting back on something I stumbled on yesterdays after updating to the latest CM7 2.3.3 build. After updating I have been removing the sock music app then replacing it with the Honeycomb version. Upon that I was prompted with several permissions request and accepted them all. Syncing then started and I checked that under that under Account and Sync notice Music was syncing. This synced overnight. I put in a empty SDcard in. Then I went in to the Jumper Test that comes along with the Music app started the peer under the Controls tab, Ran a test under the Logs tab ( showed 785 files and the files names below) went back to the music app then went to music settings and checked Stream Music and my music started to show up! Played a few songs no problems at all. Let me know if this is working for anyone else.

Edit: ITS HONEYCOMB Music Player. Correct procedure -
Hmmm follow these steps, it might work or might not. Saw many people showing it in a Gingerbread rom, i figure it does not work on FroYo. Anyway here are the steps
1. Download the music apk.
2. Open the apk from your computer with winrar
3. Open the lib folder and the 'armeabi-v7a' folder and extract 'libjumper.so' to your desktop
4. connect your phone to your computer and copy the 'libjumper.so' and the music.apk file to the root of your sd card.
5. Using root explorer, go to your sd card and copy the 'libjumper.so' file and paste it in your phone system>lib
6. rename your honeycomb music apk into 'Music.apk' and make sure its still left in the root of your sdcard
7. close root explorer and go to terminal emulator
8. type
su
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cp /sdcard/Music.apk /system/app
9. Then go to root explorer again and into system>app and long press on music.apk.
10. select permissions and make sure the check boxes have a inverted L shaped pattern
11. close your root explorer and reboot your phone
10. You should see a bown coloured music icon on your phone's app list enjoy

Well, I have the honeycomb player installed and playing music. I am not sure if it is syncing or if I need to initiate it somehow.
This UI is much nicer than the previous iterations, but it is a bit unstable.
So what music does this sync with? iTunes?

Do it on your own Risk. it worked for me.. it may not work for you.
***Both Devices Must be rooted (Gtab and Other) Most of the Custom Roms are rooted.***
If you can see on you Android phone/Android device you can get that app onto Gtab with this few simple steps.
Let assume the device is your phone where you can see almost all the apps.
1. Have Titanium Backup (Free Or Paid) on both the device. (Phone/Gtab)
2. Download the the app you want onto your first device (Phone)
3. Backup with Titanium backup.
4. Connect phone to computer and copy files from Titanium Backup folder to desktop. (**** EACH APP WILL HAVE 3 FILES in TB mostly with something in front of the name and back of the name (app name).
For E.g (Names of the files in TB)
File 1. com.jhankis.animalsounds-5ac99359265f229c03bb8cb19c0afc71.apk
File 2. com.jhankis.animalsounds-20110401-041026.properties
File 3. com.jhankis.animalsounds-20110401-041026.tar
5. Now Connect your GTAB to computer and Copy the Files from Step 4. to GTAB Titanium Backup folder.
6. Reboot GTAB (Power Off and Power On).
7. Open Titanium Backup app
8. Click Menu (on GTAB)
9. Click on Batch
10.[Run] Restore all app's with Data.
11. Select the app u copied and Restore.** APPS ONLY NOT DATA**.
you will have those apps on you GTAB.
Hope this helps ... I did it and it worked for me with no issues. (did for my 2yr old son's fav apps)
Any questions PM me.. If this helped u. please press that thanks button.
I hope Moderator will make it sticky... If no one else posted. Cos i did not find this trick any where.

Personally I never used bropbox.. So not sure. These steps worked for me, I'm happy.
You can use Astro App Backup and backup the apks, then plug your phone directly into your G Tab's USB and set your phone to mass storage mode. Then navigate to the phone in the file manager and install the apks you want located under the directory Astro saves backups.
Not all apps can be backed up. I've tried both Astro and Titanium to backup Need for Speed Shift and neither works.

I was going to suggest this method, as your phone doesn't need to be rooted then.
All these ways work. I use astro to back up then put in on dropbox. Just be careful about restoring the data to your apps if you use tb. Some roms won't like that very much.

Estrongs file manager
... is a file manager with LAN capabilities. When I'm on the couch and need to swap files between my android devices. I just upload to m PC then download to my other device. I think its relatively quick and simpler than toggling Bluetooth between devices.
And I could b wrong but I was unaware that there was anybody that has plugged there phone into their tab for a direct wired android to android communication. thought the code for this hasn't been implemented.

You can simply use Bluetooth File Transfer and bypass all the extra steps listed on here..
This is a device to device app, pc not necessary.

Hi,
when I connect my new Z1 to the pc via usb cable, file explorer shows me the structure/files in attachment
As you can see there are already two files named DOCUMENTS and PICTURES: they have no extensions, they are not a folder, still if I try to create new folders named DOCUMENTS and PICTURES it won't allow?
What are these files? Can I delete them?
I've never seen this, very odd. I don't have those files and my phone is working perfectly fine so I assume you should be safe deleting them. Other than that, have you tried opening them using notepad(++) and see what they contain?
Edit:
Regarding the issue of creating folders, this could be due to MTP derping, try re-connecting your phone or rebooting your phone and try again.

Ok will try... Funny thing is that with solid explorer I cannot see these 2 files
I just got the Prime R1 HD 16gb today and did TWRP and root. The only issue I've had is for some reason if I move a file onto the phone from my PC with a USB cable, it wont show up. E.G. If I move a file to my downloads folder, it wont be there, but if I download the same file through the phone from the internet it works. I can still see the files I've moved onto the phone from the PC if I use a file explorer, but it wont let me do anything with them. I tried going into the TWRP menu and switched the system off of read only thinking that may help, but it seems to have not done a thing. Complete beginner when it comes to this kind of thing if it isn't obvious. Any ideas?

That sounds familiar to the mtp "bug" Android has had for years.
The media storage database does not update when files are added from mtp.
Some work around that are listed are to use USB transfer instead. (Not used that one before)
Disconnect usb cable clear the data if the media storage app and force close it, then reconnect usb is should rescan the media and rebuild database.
Or just a reboot(I have done this and it usually works)
