Yes, you developers need to eat!
Yes, you should be paid to work!
But PLEASE think about how much you are charging. What exactly are you charging X amount for?
If you are not careful, you will do nothing but promote the Piracy of applications. I don't think you would find that acceptable, if everyone stole your work. Please just remember, that you are working on an OPEN SOURCE device. So when you take a bunch of files, do minor editing, and slap 2.99 on it, it is not worth it.
PLEASE use your brain for more then just code. THINK about the people that don't code, and think - are they going to spend $100-300 to buy all the apps for their phones? If they don't think they are getting the value, people WILL steal. Just look at the music industry!
THIS does not mean that you should just make everything free. This does mean that if you spent 10 min's making a new search bar widget (dxTop) that you probably shouldn't charge for it.
If I am wrong, please tell me, and tell me why.
Well, since you have 24 hours to return them, what's the problem?
I mean, anything under $3,- who cares? That's less than a coffee at Starbucks, when all is said and done.
I'm a video game engineer and web developer, and I charge poeople around $20/hour for my services, so if someone spends 15 minutes building an app to better your uses, then $3 I can understand. Now, I don't think a lot of the apps are worth the money because it really isnt THAT much work to do, and when you had no problem offering it for free, to now charge? Donating, thats no problem. But you shouldn't force those to buy it. Programs like BetterCut, we not available prior to paid app releases, and apposed to anycut, has multiple new and truley great features that I will in a heart beat pay $3.00.
Spending the money isn't the problem for me, $10 on an app, who cares. It's only 10 bucks. However, I just don't like the way developers went about making paying for apps a neccessity, and turning their old versions into trials. And then starting to restrict features.
When its all said and done I mean, guess there isn't much I can do but *****. If I want the app I'll buy it, I've already got 15-20 apps I've paid for so far because I find them to be necessities worth my cash. It's just stupid how it goes down.
I don't mind for people charging for apps. I haven't found the need to buy any apps yet because I haven't seen an app that interests me enough to buy it. There are a lot of apps out there and a bunch of them are getting crap reviews. I think the market just needs some time to find out what prices work and what don't. And it seems like when a good app concept comes out, another dev makes a few version.
I totally agree with you q426669,they are releasing a bunch of ****ty apps, sorry about the ****ty part....and I know you guys are busy and it´s your time.....etc....etc..When I first listened about the paid apps I was very excited thinking....cool we´re gonna start seeing nice apps, but as of now I am getting tired of stupid joke apps, flashlights etc....I don´t even feel like trying any app out,and yes I am willing to pay like I used to do with Windows Mobile.
Gonna be real interesting with the Blackberry App Store.....their lowest price starts at $3.
Anyone who buys a paid wallpaper/ringtone app deserves what they get lol. They are all out there if people search for them. I cant understand for the life of me why people have bought the paid flashlight app but ok. Developers take the time to make them so I will pay for it if its something I really want, no problem. I agree though that the apps and games coming out are pretty lame but i just ignore them. People whining about a .99 cent app are ridiculous to me, how much money do you waste on fast food and other stuff you don't need? Take that 5 bucks for your burger king and get a few cool games or apps to deck out your phone! As far as piracy of stuff its gonna happen no matter how much people charge, nothing anyone can do about it. I think making demo versions though will help cut piracy down a little.
I don't know about you guys, but I'm SICK of the whiney cheapskates on the market griping because a dev DARES to charge a buck or two for an app.
I was just looking at the reviews for the Abduction! game, and couldn't believe how many people raved about how fun the game is, then scolded the dev for being greedy and charging a measly couple of bucks!
Several were griping that they were teens without a credit card - have they ever heard of a SECURED credit card? Or a Visa gift card?
Anyhow, I'm discovering how fun it is to mark the tightwad comments as spam. I think they're going to be the new Firsters!! And they aren't just the first 10 comments like the firsters are.
Join me in eradicating the Market of unappreciative freebie seekers!
Well I'm not gonna join you in that but I do agree completely. There's no reason for you to bash the dev because you cant afford his work. You can afford to spend $70/month for your G1 service but not a buck on an app that you like?
He is saying that he is going to mark the comments of people complaining about the price as spam.

I enjoy reading stupid comments from stupid people that do the same thing to free apps, the problem with common sense is, it isn't common!

Good idea, mark stupid statements as advertisements. Pretty sure that all it does is flag the post for moderation.
In other words, you're wasting your time.
Hi I am paying for someone to make an app for me. It would be like the last.fm app where you can stream the music from the site, but it's for soundclick.com not last.fm. I would like to be able to sign into my account, view my favorite bands, rate/comment songs, Download songs to my sdcard right from the app, upload songs (for band accounts), and basically a fully functionally app that lets me use all the features on soundclick. I will pay $10 for someone to make the app. I will pay you via paypal, after the app is completed and being used on my G1.
An application like that would take a long time to create and cost way more then $10 to produce.
10 dollars? haha no comment
Lol, if you want an app like that you would have to pay way more than 10$. That app sounds really complex. I think you undervalue the amount of skill and work it takes to actually program an app. It's actually pretty hard ( I am a beginning coder myself ). Offering 10$ for something like that is almost an insult.
hmmm, but I thought making apps were free, all it took was time. and at least im offering something lmao. I could just be like I want some one to make it free lol. Well so it looks like no one's going to do it?

The SDK for android is free, but there's a fee to post things to the market. Not to mention that it takes a LOT of time to make. You're basically asking for months of someones time for $10.

yeah, but i'm not asking for it to be posted in the market lol I said for me lol. Whatever they decide to do with it when it's done is up to them . But I see where you are coming from .
Something like that would cost at least a few thousand dollar's worth of programmer's time. I don't know anything about soundclick, but it's very likely that it wouldn't be possible to make an app without their consent/help.
Your best bet is to suggest that they make an app themselves.

How would I go about suggesting it to them? Because don't you think i would be hard to contact the owner and have them listen to someone asking for them to make an app for android?

I would start at their Contact Page. Probably with the support email, then maybe business development if you don't get any response from support.
$10?!?!?
Are you out of your mind?
Make a real offer. I'm not a dev but I was thinking along these lines for Hero Mock Widgets:
Pay $500 per working mock Hero widgets plus 25% of profits gained.
Charge each widget $4.99 or $20 for the entire pack.
The demand for Hero ported to Cupcake is so large that I would make my $500 in less than a day (hell... maybe in just a couple of hours) since everyone would be purchasing the $20 widget pack. Then $5 would go to the dev for each download (say 1,000) download the first day (which wouldn't be too unrealistic given the demand) so the dev could easily make $1,500 for the work on release.
That would be a minimum offer!
$10... you won't even get an e-mail of interest for that. Even if it was going to be a free app on the Market. If anything you gave someone an idea to do it themselves, take the credit and charge what ever they want (like $0.99 for ten people like YOU that want it so badly) and he could make more than a lousey $10.

What are you talking about??? I dont want a widget. I dont even want rights to sell the app. I just want it made so that I can use it lmao.
wait for flash player then , once flash player is integrated u should be able to use all the features of the real site
Some companies pour millions into R&D for applications, $10 would barely buy them coffee. lol. Yeah, best bet is to contact soundclick and ask them if they're developing an app for android. Or hope there a dev out there that wants it as badly as you do, and is currently creating one.
YAY 600 posts.
The $10 is hilarious but besides that it probably isn't possible. There is no public API as far as I can tell. They also you a flash music player. Meaning there is no way to make the calls to stream the music.
Either email them and request it or wait till there is a flash player in android
So to sum everything up here: zayg1, it ain't gonna happen.
If you really want someone to write it for you try http://www.rent-a-coder.com there programmers will bid down against eachother for the job, you might only have to pay someone $1k
$10? Free to make? You don't know anything. Go read a book. Sorry.
First I would like to start off by saying, Mods if this is in the wrong place please move to the correct location. It should be in the right place since it is off topic.

This will not do alot unless you target the Governments that are making it cost more. Not something you can really do anything about.

of course it is the fault of LG! proof with asus and the price of the Nexus 7 which is the same as the shop either on the playstore.
Things cost different amounts in different countries. Get over it

That is not the reason why the prices are different
If Google wish to subsidise the phone to get people to use their store, that's upto them.

Frankly, these petitions are getting out of hand! Its supposed to be a powerful tool to gather the masses for things that really matter. Open source, more support, freedom, things that are important. LG or any other manufacturer for that matter won't reduce their prices just because someone who does not know half the things going behind pricing decisions, asks them to. Don't like the pricing, don't buy.
This needs to be stopped, or even the petitions which would have had an impact otherwise will start looking like someone throwing a tantrum.

Exactly this :highfive:
I sure hope a google employee isn't on this forum reading these threads. Google comes out with a phone that is much less expensive than anything else of comparable specs and yet we still have people trying to stir up the masses against them?
Should I start a petition against toyota that my car costs a different amount than in other countries? How about any manufacturer of anything I start a petition against?
Everyone stop acting as company CEO's, your beloved item you want isn't the price you want, DONT BUY IT. You can even go ahead and hate the company, that's not how vusiness is conducted. Company choose prices and then consumers decide if they buy or not. And then, guess on who's wallet it is if they didn't choose the optimal price? THE COMPANY, so shut up and swallow the pill or start your own phone making business.
There are much more important things that you guys could create a petition for.
I went ahead and reported this thread to the mods to lock / delete.

I think, and I want to believe that this reaction from your part at all, and due to a misunderstanding of the fact. know that the problem is producing not only for Italy, but for all of Europe and probably even for the usa! LG has decided to sell its nexus € 4590 / $, then it is available to 350 € / $ on google playstore. but the real concern is that some countries are not entitled to google playstore, and even if this is not the fault of LG, were it even really penalizes countries that are in the story! ! In addition to that, how can sell LG mobile google, which declare his mobile trying to sell € 350 / $ because it is mobile prices too expensive! So yes, it is true that the petition is based are made for much more serious problem than the price of a smartphone, but at the same time, this is the only way that works for a multinational company has to understand that we sum does not agree with his political advantage against all odds!

OK guys cool down. The mods already know about this thread. And while I think it is pointed in the wrong direction it is not hurting anyone. If it gets out of hand I will close it.
Now as for the "without censor" that is not the case. This thread will be censored if it gets out of hand.

You think you should be able to post anything on a privately owned forum with no controls from the moderators?
As for the thread being locked / deleted, that's because these sort of petition threads don't do anything good for the forum and always turn into flamewars. You can see the same thing happening in the "petition for microsd card slot" thread below this one.
