[Q] serendipity 4.3 gb steam kernel no write access - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So as the title says i installed serendipity 4.3 and steam recovery. Love it one thing i can't figure out is why cputuner can't get write access to min or max frequency. So i can't under clock when the screen is off. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Your phone will perform better and you will avoid potential issues if you don't use apps like cputuner or setcpu.

I'm using the same kernal and rom, download overclock widget from the market it will let underclock that's what I use.

Well, it is best if u don't use any kind of apps that set cpu speeds based on its state - like reducing cpu speed when sleeping.
Captivate has a scalable CPU that would automatically reduce speed when idle or in standby mode, based on tasks running.

i appreciate your guys advice , and i'm sure i will end up removing those but that doens't answer my question... why don't i have write access to cpu min max frequency? when this kernel is supposed to be able to oc,uv when i use the voltage app to set undervolts i set them according to what other have had best results with and my phone freezes... i love toying around with these kinds of things... so i'd like to get my question answered.

App that shows accurate clock speed

As the title.implies, I'm looking for a widget that shows the current clocking of the cpu. nothing that I have used in the past or found recently is showing the correct speed
Some kernels don't let you see it correctly, but try system panel
Thanks. I'll give it a shot. It's whatever the stock kernal is on cm7

I'd like such an app too, but i'm hesitant to use Setcpu on the pershoot kernel. Seems like I had problems doing that (flakiness?) a couple of weeks ago that uninstalling setcpu solved.
Could have been coincidence though, others seem not to have a problem.

Using SetCPU on the stock CM7.02 and it works great.
Using SetCPU w\VeganGinger and pershoot's latest. If using his latest kernel, just be sure to set SetCPU to AUTO not Custom. For me, I just use the SetCPU widget, accurately shows current clock and temperature, very handy.

[Q] Autokiller & Ram Manager

Hi guys, I'm trying to optimize my phone using ram optimizer apps.
Can I use Autokiller Memory Optimizer and Ram Manager both at the same time?
Or they have negative effect if I use them boht? anyone please answer me, thanks.
i think it's not a good idea
use one of them
and i recommend ram manager or speed boost lite
don't use both at the same time, I recommended you to use supercharger or ram manager pro, I think supercharger is better

unfortunately no
but what's the point??
if u have a lot of free ram !!!!
the most important thing is performance
and I've that in Linuxperia with nothing except Speed boost lite
I thank god every day that mine is cypress and u have to
I think the best app for autokilling is memory booster full last version

about autotask killer.
I used Advance task manager from market and set option for auto killing. it closes the apps when u lock the screen. what i want to say is that if you want better battery life use it!
with it i got 25% battery gone from 6am to 10pm with wifi always on, 1h of music and some sms and some calls
I use "Fast Reboot Pro"
I find it more efficient than most task killers.

Q:Best settings for battery

Hello.i want to know what settings do you use on your SGS for a good battery life but without losing to much performance.
I use x-bean 3.0 with semaphore kernel v2.4.0s.
Share your configs if you like.thank you all!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
As I don't own a SGS but a + I probably have different settings, but what always helps for me is downloading JuiceDefender. If you don't know this app, you should try it
For example: You can imagine your phone uses some battery life to stay connected to 3g, wifi etc. One of this settings disables your 3g/wifi whenever you turn your screen of, and enables it when you turn it on. For me, this improved my battery life big time. There are settings which allow your phone to enable wifi once while, but that's all up to the options.
As for what the best settings are for a 'decent' performance is quite different to what you experience as a decent performance.
Really?thank you i will give it a try.but i need wifi to be working all the time.i know that use a lot of battery but my biggest problem is my screen.this is what drains ny battery.lol.now i have checked the auto feature for the screen.we will see.thank you for your quick reply and for your help!

You shold try Advanced Task Killer (as a widget especially, easy to use) - see attachement. It kills your background apps, saving RAM, and batterty. You must have 100MB+ free RAM at least...
Also, if you're not using 3G, you should turn it off, because this is one of "the biggest problems" for battery... (same thing with Wi-Fi or bluetooth).
So...if you have at least 100MB RAM free, and a little usage of 3G and Wi-Fi, you should have 2-3 hours of "screen on" batterty-life
Yeah i had this app on my wildfire but when i got this phine and i saw that there is a tasj killer onboard i thought that its not gonna help me.but i remember that with this app you have by far morr options of killing apps.
Btw whats the name of your clock widget? Beautiful widgets or something else?
Thanks for recommending the app btw!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
the name of widget is "GO Weather EX"
your current ROM probably has Task Manager by default, but there are many ROMs without it by default, so ... then...you'll need it
anyway, for me, even if I have Task Manager by default it's more easier to just click on a small widget on the homescreen than open Task Manager...clear RAM...bla bla bla

Task killers? In what century do you live? They drain the battery more than helping anything which has been proven a zillion times. Linux is not Windows.
So at thread starter: Don't use task killers. The CPU will have to push the tasks into RAM again and thus won't go into deep sleep.
Everything else was already mentioned: Juice Defender, Underclocking to 800 MHz and using a decent governor.

[Q] Cyanogenmod 11 Freezes and Reboots

Okay, i have a few issues with CM11
This really happened all of a sudden yesterday. I would use the phone normaly, like send a text message or browse the web or use any other app and it would freeze, stay like that for about 10 seconds then reboot. I figured this is an overclock issue, but ive used the phone before and this problem wasn't so bad, it would happen like once every few days but not every 10 minutes.
Anyone else have this problem?
After thinking its overclock but logically its not, i thought it might be ART, i switched to art and it booted up fine and stuff, but i never bothered to check if it was working! and when i go to dev options it says im using dalvik, so i changed it to art and rebooted. It booted up back into dalvik again. Anyone know why this could be?
And since i couldnt change to art to see if it would fix the problem, i have installed a few apps lately.
Soundcloud, and SGS Touch screen enhancer. I dont think it has anything to do with those apps.
Ram is usually around 60% usage and even when i tried turning on every single app and playing some games at the same time nothing happened! This happened only durring normal average usage and every 10 minutes. By the way my phone was charging during that time...maybe it has something to do wit that?
Art switching problem is because of xposed framework... Delete it and after this you can change runtime to ART....
Reboot's reason is that your phone uses more ram... My phone reboots when its ram is on 90%... Which governor and io schedule do you use?

gotcha. Well guess im stuck with dalvik
I use smartassv2 and row at 1.9ghz
why would it use MORE ram when i clear my ram on a regular basis (no auto clear apps though). i usually keep one or 2 apps open at a time at most 4. and try to keep usage to a minimum to increase battery life.

Just out of curiosity, what extra stuff do you use xposed for on CM11?
Anyone have luck solving this ?
It's not about the cpu. it's all about ram. use greenify to hibernate the unused apps that take ram like google+,maps... it worked for me and now i have 0 freezes and 0 reebots

Any Tweak To Improve Battery Life?

Can anybody suggest me any tweak or xposed module for battery saving?

Why don't you use wakelock detector from playstore to know which app is using battery the most and then use greenify to hibernate those apps? Simple and phone shall remain fast.
PS: Press thanks if I helped you.
Greenify as much apps as possible.
Disable all non used services with "disable service" (Be careful with this)
Install BetterBatteryStats to see if you have wakelocks and disable any that you find using the above app.
Localisation and account sync also uses allot of battery. Turn them off if you don't often use them.
Use "Lux" instead of auto brightness.
Use ART instead of Dalvik if you're on Android KK (4.4)
Undervolt your cpu with 25mV and use mpdecision with "Trickster MOD" if your kernel supports it.
My phone only needs a recharge every 48 hours or so and I'm having close to 4.5 hours of screen time.

It automatically sets your screen brightness in a way that it saves battery.
Allot better than the standard build-in auto screen brightness.
