Hello guys,
I have received my NookColor yesterday and have had nothing but trouble with it since.
I can't stand the stock ROM, so I immediately put the customized Nookie Froyo 0.5.9 on it
It randomly reboots (the second time as I'm typing this), does not wake up from sleep every time and most importantly, the touchscreen completely drives me nuts.
It's pretty much exaktly like described here:
"Sometimes the nook will start seeing "phantom touches" or inaccurate touches, or not respond to reasonable touches."
I just didn't expect it to be so painfully annoying. Locking/Unlocking fixes it for a brief moment, but combined with the wake-up bug, this is a very risky way of "solving" the problem and thus, my device is almost completely unusable.
Now if I follow the steps in that guide, dmesg will show me everything but no "Calibration successful"-message.
The last line is
<4>cyttsp:In sys info mode! ttsp_forcecal_store: Forcing TP calibration NOW.
Also, I don't notice any improvement.
What am I doing wrong? If I don't get that damn touchscreen to work properly, I don't even need to begin tackling the other problems
Is are there any other tweaks to make the touchscreen better? Haptic Feedback is already turned off
same here!
The bottom 1" of my screen is an unresponsive mess. When I run the recalibration commands from nookdevs I get "cyttsp:In sys info mode!ttsp_forcecal_store: Forcing TP calibration NOW."
But no success message. Any thoughts?
Ah! Good news. The recalibration worked for me on a fresh reboot. I rebooted from adb shell with the reboot command to keep it as clean as possible. Once the nook was booted I ran the calbiration and it worked!
Even better, the bottom 1" of my screen works like a freaking charm now.
I've got the same problem with the touchscreen.
Mostly it works, but sometimes like this morning:
screen was quite cold,
it did random taps all the time,
tiping stuff, I hardly could unlock the device,
I somehow still managed to switch on adbwireless,
the screen on/off method didn't work either,
but after I recalibrated the screen it worked perfectly again.
The Problem is, I have recalibrated the screen every two days now for the last week,
it always works perfectly after a recalibration, but sadly gets worse with time.
I tried out the different methods listed on the page, the last thing I might still try is recalibrating it after letting it lie outside in the cold.
I'm also worrying, if I take My NC somewhere where there's no Pc with adb in sight, that I can't use my device anymore, when it gets so bad - Is there maybe a way to fix it on the device itself?

The following (long!) post was originally posted at the PointUI forum, but I thought it best to cross post it here. I've tried to organize it as best as I can and appreciate those with the patience to read it and the good will to offer help.
------------------------
My AT&T Tilt (HTC TyTN II) is basically out of commision right now, and I can only track the source of the problems back to the latest update of PointUI (v1.02b, Feb. 4th 2008), as I've done nothing else with the phone since. However, seeing as how I've uninstalled PointUI and the problems persist (and are getting worse), I suspect a virus is afoot, or some other lovely problem.
Since the update, I've experienced the same problems as everyone else on this PointUI thread (system hangs on "running apps" screen and randomly), but in addition to that, several other things. I am running the stock AT&T ROM without the bloatware. These have been my symptoms for the most part since then:
Periodically, animations between menus would slow down considerably and sometimes freeze for a moment, even when I had nothing else running in the background. This would happen for any menu: the cog, the bottom bar, favorites, etc.
The touchscreen would stop working (usually, only within PointUI). This usually happened when animations would slow down, but it would also occur alone, randomly. The hardware buttons would still work during touchscreen failure, usually, but sometimes they wouldn't, and I would have to soft reset.
Sometimes, the power button wouldn't work, and I would press it several times thinking I didn't do it hard enough the first few times. After ~20 seconds, the screen would turn itself off and on. When the screen was on, it would not responding to touches.
The PointUI top bar that appears when using any application would, at random, not work. By this I mean when I would tap it, it's like it wasn't even there -- the Start menu would come down, or the volume control, date/time, etc. depending on where I tapped it. Also, the top right button (red X, or the check mark) would not display correctly in programs or the today screen (a check mark when it should be an X, etc.), randomly, and would not be responsive.
Yesterday (Feb. 23rd), things took a turn for the worse. Here's what happened:
When I started up Tom Tom, the screen went completely non-responsive. Only buttons would work.
After exiting Tom Tom (in an attempt to restart it), the touchscreen would continue not to work, both in PointUI and regular old Windows.
Shortly following this, buttons would stop working, and the entire phone would freeze up. Couldn't turn the touchscreen on and off. I did a soft reset.
During startup, when it showed the AT&T logo, the screen dimmed itself to the lowest brightness setting (it never does this). It would remain this way all the way through the bootup process and into Windows as well, never getting any brighter. Even after going to the backlight settings and increasing the brightness, the screen would get brighter, but would never turn off.
Once in Windows, the touchscreen was completely non-responsive. Buttons would still work, but everything would move really slow.
The screen would never turn itself off. Also, when pressing buttons, the screen would never get any brighter.
After mashing the buttons a bit (in anger, yes, but lightly), the touchscreen alignment application came up, asking me to touch the screen in a few places. This worked.
Then, a call came in. The screen froze during the animation for the notification of an incoming call. Also, the phone started to ring, but within 1 second stopped. However, it would vibrate nonstop (my phone is setup to ring and vibrate at the same time) till the end of the earth!
At this point, none of the buttons would work, not even the power button. Did a soft reset.
This was followed by the same exact symptoms ~4 times (touch screen not working, never turning off and staying at the same brightness level, etc). Outgoing calls would work ok, but each time, a call would come in and freeze up my phone.
Eventually, after several resets, the touchscreen would work without having to mash the buttons to get the touchscreen alignment app running. However, it would still freeze on incoming calls (only).
Somewhere between all the resets, I realized that sliding out the keyboard would never switch the screen to landscape. I can still type and my text would show up on-screen, and screen taps still work properly (even touchflo), but all of this would occur while still in portrait mode.
Lastly, the power button would only work once. It can turn the screen off, but not back on, ever.
Somewhere, between the resets, I uninstalled PointUI, which did nothing. I also tried running Sprite Backup, which would never open (and still doesn't at time of writing)!
Before the PointUI update, none of these symptoms were present (earlier release was v1.01b, used since early January). After the update, they began creeping up, getting worse over time. I have installed nothing else since the update, and have only ever sync'd the phone with my computer to charge it.
Today (Feb. 24th), it started getting a little worse...
When I make calls, sometimes the microphone doesn't work at all. I can hear the person I'm calling, but they can't hear me.
Sometimes, the green phone button won't start the phone application.
Power button isn't turning off the screen anymore at all.
This is the current status of the phone. Weathered, battered and beaten, it marches on, still capable of opening the HTC Audio Manager and playing my MP3's in consolation.
Any help regarding the source of these issues is greatly appreciated.
Some additional notes/summary:
I am running the stock AT&T ROM without the bloatware.
I haven't dropped the phone or let it get wet.
I may hard reset sometime this coming week, probably Monday. The first thing I'll do is reinstall PointUI v1.02b, and maybe TomTom. We'll see how that goes.
You know, the more I read this post, the more it seems like a virus.
Man... just hard reset/flash a new rom and be done with it.

I thought the above was the reason we DIDN'T have WM viruses?
Virus + Hard Reset = Problem solved?

I agree, at least that way you know if its hardware or software related and you stop fighting a losing battle

That's why I haven't bothered with any of the anti-virus programs out there. Why bother having a constant drain on the system resources when you can do a hard reset, and restore all the cabs & hacks in under 30 minutes?

Just an update here, my phone started acting up again ~5 days ago: freezing on incoming calls, not switching to landscape when sliding out the keyboard, never turning the screen off, etc. 3 days ago it got better, and I was able to run Sprite Backup and tried to restore the phone back to my pre-PointUI days. It had to reset, and on that same reset, Sprite didn't run -- the phone just booted into Windows, and all my problems came back.
Last night, I got a call that froze up my phone again. So I reset it, and by surprise, Sprite Backup ran and started restoring my phone. Now it's back to the way it was in January, and everything works perfectly! This backup was made before I ever installed PointUI.
Bottomline, no PointUI, no problem.
However, I should say that with v1.01b, I never experienced any of these issues. Because of my experience, I'm not giving any test versions a try, but I may install 1.03b, when it comes out. Definitely doing another backup before that too.
Thank you everyone.
Sounds to me more like a hardware issue, perhaps with your SD card.
I had the same issues you were havingh, but without ever having installed PointUi on my Kaiser.
I was using Dutty's Rom version 7 with radio 1.27.xx
only installed aps : TomTom and SPB brain training
So it would seem this is a WM or TomTom triggered issue....
My Kaiser just started doing this very same thing today. I'm running the standard AT&T WM6.1 ROM and have been successfully since December 07. I have a 6GB SD card with TomTom on it, also have had no issues until now. Today, the screen didn't switch into landscape upon sliding the keyboard out; the camera freezes and/or is unresponsive; power button doesn't work (on OR off; with or without SD card inserted); couldn't pick up a call earlier today; TomTom freezes when loading; WM player freezes while loading media.... I have not installed any apps on this thing since January. Seems to me like some memory corruption going on, possibly page file related.
I *did* notice that I had about 45MB worth of temp internet files cached and cleaned those up earlier today after these symptoms started. Didn't fix the problem though, but being low on main storage may have contributed to the corruption problem.
I had hoped I wouldn't need to hard reset my phone but here we go....
Looking to find anyone with the same issues I am having. My NC is rooted using Auto-nooter for 101. Everything went smoothly no issues at all. A day later my NC has been possessed. When reading a book NC would start to skip pages sometimes as much and 5 pages in fast progression, I would then have to swipe back to my page. Then there are times when the quick nave bar of the NC would start flashing multiple times then click a random book from the home screen or from the daily shelf and open it, when I close it it would do it again this would happen about 3 or 4 times till the screen freezes for about 7 minutes. But its not over, then the NC would automatically go into settings then back to home screen then back to settings again really fast, then again freeze. The only way (and this does work) is to "light boot" it by holding down the power button for 5 seconds (the option to shut down will pop up) then let go then press the power button once quickly on then off. The home screen will come back and the "possession" will have stopped, for awhile. This is getting really annoying, especially the reader skipping multiple pages forward on its own as I do like reading with my NC. So has anyone else have this happening? Any ideas as to what this could be? Thanks for any help or ideas. I have read the forums but it seems I am the only "lucky" one to have this issue. Again thanks.
yes, this happened to me. I went and bought a screen cover and cloth. Cleaned the screen VERY thoroughly and applied to cover. Has not happened since.

Do you mean like an anti glare/non scratch screen protector? I have a great gadget cloth that I use all the time.

No, you're by far not the only one, seems to be related to bad chargers, bad cables, or bad luck... I've had it happen one time while plugged in, but some people have said they couldn't use their NC at all while plugged in.
There are several threads here already on this subject...
I had some eratic stuff going on...buttons clicking, menus popping up, etc. Cleared up after i cleaned the screen really well and stopped breating so heavily (have a cold and coughing & breath was making the screen moist).
something similar happened to me early on... My K key kept pressing itself, and random key strokes while trying to enter a password... here I think.
Is your screen dirty? I happened to be using mine with sweaty hands right then, lots of finger cheese on the screen was causing false contacts. cleaned it and was good to go.
I have had the "dirty screen" issues as well. But there was one time about a week ago when this was happening even after I cleaned the screen. I completely powered off and rebooted and all has been well since. . .
Thanks for the replies I never thought that my greasy marks would make false positive clicks on my screen. come to think of it it does happen when I am reading for a bit before it starts and eating chips while reading just conjures up those spirits, thanks.
EDIT: Alright I am now convinced that this issue is technical. Its happening again now and my screen is clean and I just reboot it. NC was just sitting and charging I started it to read and it just started jumping to settings again and the Nav bar keeps flashing on and off. This time I just let it go and it went on for 5 min even after the screen turned off. I did the old "soft boot" (check first post) and it stoped. HHHHHHHHMMMMMMMMMM. I think I have a conflict with an app. I did the "save battery by changing the phone.apk and telephony.apk, has anyone also changed this and have this problem?
I had the problem before I did the cell standby battery thing.
In another thread people were solving it by recalibrating the screen. I tried it and it worked for a while before they phantom presses started again, though I might have done it wrong to begin with.
*can't post the link but its in the nookdev wiki.

I had it happen one time recently while the NC was charging. I was attempting to type a FB reply and the keyboard went all wacky. For every character I hit it entered 3-4 random characters. I switched to Gmail and it did the same thing. I unplugged the NC to plug into the computer to calibrate the screen and immediately after unplugging (before calibrating) it worked perfectly. No problems since.
My God! I thought I was the only one this was happening to. It drives me CRAZY. It happens all the time.
I have hands that sweat almost nonstop, and I think they're what causes this for me. Funny thing is, I never noticed it till I rooted. Does AutoNooter install a custom kernel? That may explain it. Also, it mostly seems to happen when plugged in, which makes me think it may be an issue like on the Evo in it's early days where the screen isn't properly grounded. It was fixed by a sensitivity tweak in a software update, and that should be possible here, I'll look into it.
Someone said a screen protector helps, and I just ordered one to try it. They've helped on past devices, and may here too.
While I have not personally had these problems on either of the NCs in the family it seems pretty conclusive that two things contribute to the problem ... a) 'dirty screen' .. getting a screen protector helps ... b) using while charging .. the #1 'quality' problem reported in the forums seems to be the port/plug on the NC and circumstantial evidence points to the cable .. I don't use the NC while it's charging so don't see the behavior and do use it connected to the PC rarely and do not use the B&N cable to connect so those with the problem may want to try another cable/charger. One of my cables works fine, the other is problematic.
I would like to keep this short and sweet so...
Basically heres the low down: I got a G1 almost a year ago, got into Rooting/flashing 7 months ago. I noticed in the beginning almost every rom was giving me a problem, Freezing up, hanging for long periods of time, etc. I eventually found a very nice, stable rom thats been lasting me for about 6 months but as of late was being horrible. Force Closing everytime I got a text message, REALLY Hanging for long periods of time, freezing up. Etc.
So I finally got FED UP, and decide it was time for a change, so I grabbed MLIGN 3.3v having seen so many good reviews and what not, thinking it would be the remedy to my poison. I cried. So in short, here is whats going on:
1. It seems to only wanna cooperate when Plugged into the USB, which, isn't too practical.
2. When not plugged in, it is NOT sluggish, but when loading into apps I've noticed it will hang for quiet awhile or completely lock up to the point only popping out the battery will work.
3. I haven't noticed it yet, but on the old ROM it would randomly shut off during phone calls; which leads me too....
4. When ever I shut the screen off (by pushing endcall) it seems to freeze and lock up and eventually either SHUTOFF or REBOOT into a SHUTOFF of the phone and refuse to turn back on until it has been plugged into the USB, or enough time has passed for it to 'forgive me' and by that, I mean randomly work again.
5: Various other things I cant think of right now.
So, basically thats almost everything. Whenever its plugged into USB though, it works like a charm (for the most part).
Would a problem with my Battery be the case? Which, would be awkward but a possibility.
Or did I just do something wrong?
I made sure to factory wipe the phone twice, even 3 times on the last go, I updated the ENG.SPL and Radio every time I tried to reflash just to make sure.
I partitioned my SD Card for 32MB Swap; 512EXT2 (and 7xxEXT2 I forget what it was) and I also upgraded it to EXT3, which showed some improvement... I believe.
So, I just would like to have my phone working, in a peaceful, obedient manner xD.
Forgive me for the block of text, and all help will be appreciated. Thank you guys... I await sound advice
Try different ROM? See which one works best.
Like me, I found that SuperAosp is best suit for me (see my sig for DEV Site and Download, if you want to try it). It had been running fast and I had no issue, what so ever. Occasionally when I loaded apps that hogged the power usage it gets lags, but still good. FCs are at minimal to none (that's just because of the way I handle the apps). Once in a while I noticed that it reboot, when I tried to use the apps that hogged the memory (maybe that was the apps issue).
Only other thing I recommed is to download a different launcher, because the build-in ADW Launcher does not work too well in my opinion.
Another thing, if you wish to keep the ROM you had. I would suggest to change the partition size. (IE: Catch [128MB]/Ext 2 or EXT 3 [1024MB]/ FAT32[the rest]) Now I know other people might say that it's overkill, but to me my G1 performance it great.
I've tried multiple roms as of late, and the one I like the most does happen to be MLIGNs... everything seems to be working correctly for the most part with the exception of what I listed above... Now on the like, 23rd reboot most of the sluggishness that was there before is gone, and everything is pretty much being cooperative, with the exception of like the weather, which isn't updating properly but I can live with that. What I cant live with is the fact that this ROM when not plugged in, will freeze up when in the lock screen, a few minutes after it has darkened and gone black and wont respond at all. Or I'll unplug it and just do a test, swipe left, right for a good minute or two, go into apps and It'll just SHUT OFF. Maybe it really is the battery? I'm unsure. When I look at the battery it does look quiet bloated... I am unsure...
I'm gonna try to set it to what you recommended, and see if that works...
I don't think it's the battery.
Have you tried reformat/partion your SD card (be sure to backup your data first). See my last comment on sizes recommendation for each partition.
Also check on the swappiness setting.
Mhm... so I went back and followed everything you told me to do, including repartitioning to the exact file sizes you told me. (Also I'm guessing Cache meant Swap) So I set everything up and its really blazing fast and stable.... until I remove the USB cord. Then it shuts off, freezes at lock screen when the screen is dimmed to black, and will just randomly shut off while doing things (especially when trying to get into messages)
Also if it helps, I have a Class 2 8Gig SD card, and my Recovery is Ra 1.5.x(I forget.) I'm completely confused... I dunno what to do... I would really like this to just work and stop being a hassle D:
Hmmm, Try reading this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010932
See if it helps.
Nothing :/ Its okay... I'm gonna go play around with other roms, completely re do my phone, make sure everything is updated etc. Then go from there.
Thank you anyways, you were a big help, reguardless of my phones triumphing retardism
I updated my C6903 to Android 5.1.1 around... say a month ago? Or around there. It was giving me so much trouble, I couldn't stand to use my phone anymore.
Therefore, I read up on what I could, and attempted my first downgrade to 4.4 KitKat (Central European 01 version 108, unbranded). I didn't wipe the data and that turned into a bit of a mess, but I successfully flashed it and wiped the data properly during the second time around.
But I was still getting some problems, ones that had been occuring since my phone was upgraded to Lollipop. First, that my phone can not enter full screen at all, on any app. The home bar flickers on and off all the time, during Youtube, during any videos, during visualiser, or any app that will make use of fullscreen.
The second issue is that my home keys become unresponsive the vast majority of the time. Restarting does not fix this, and locking my screen then unlocking it again works for roughly 1 minute, then it's back to freezing and no response.
So, considering my main issues were persistent since the update of 5.1.1, I tried a factory reset. I wiped everything and flashed it properly again with Flashtool, to 4.4 KitKat.
It has not worked. Using the developer options/diagnostics I have tested my display and my entire screen has no dead pixels and reacts to the movement or touch of my finger with no issue. So if my screen is fine otherwise, why has 5.1.1 completely ****ed my phone over? It does not make any sense.
At this point I cannot even watch videos or do basic things on my phone as the above issues are preventing me from doing anything. I'm willing to provide as much information as I can, so I would appreciate some help and insight into this. Thank you!
EDIT: Additional information - Trying to view pictures in full screen (Album) ends up with it zooming in and out constantly, even when nothing on the screen is being touched.
When my phone is on landscape/full screen android keyboard, it will intermittently go crazy and start vibrating. I believe it is the symbol key being pressed on it's own, off/on constantly. Nothing on my phone is being touched or moved at this time, it just does this by itself.
it looks like some dirt got on the edges of the screen and it's messing with the touch detection.give that phone a nice bath(one of the best advantages it of being waterproof ) and clean that screen.that should fix it!

The cover for the charger port is broken and just fell off one day a long time ago (it never closed properly, though) so unfortunately, I won't be able to go through with that suggestion.
Added new information. I hope I can get some insight into this soon.
Hey guys, I've been having some issues with my RP2 since fresh out of the box. Randomly, my phone screen will not turn on and will stay black. The phone itself isn't shutting down, as when I attempt to turn on the screen, I can feel the haptic feedback from an attempt to unlock via fingerprint.
It's really touch and go, sometimes its good for a day or two, sometimes it'll do this two or three times a day. A hard reset (Pwr+Vol Up) gets it back running again, but it's getting really annoying and interfering heavily with just everyday use.
Anyone else having the same issue? Anything I've read around the web hasn't helped or isn't pertinent. This happens on complete stock and running Arter97's kernel, so I'm left to believe it's a hardware issue (please no) or a ROM issue, i.e. Razer did a crap job.
Any thoughts? Thank you in advance!
