[Q] MW600 Bluetooth headset metallic sound/distortion, is it ROM related? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there. First of all, i know that this is related to an Accessory, but i posted it here because i want to confirm if my problem was ROM related or not..
Here's the thing, the SE MW600 is no doubt a good piece of music accessory.. But when i used my SGS with it running Darky's V8.1, the sound is horrbile. There's a strang metallic sound to it, and high pitched sounds like cymbals are distorted..
Before you go ahead an flame me, I've done some initial tests.
1. I tested it first with a SE k800, my old phone because i wanted to know if the bluetooth headset itself had bad quality music over bluetooth.. Surprisingly, MW600 has a 'show music track name' that does not work with my SGS.. Apparently it only works with java-based phones.. Everything works, all the music controls, the volume, etc. And music quality is comparable to using a wired headset.. So the headset in itself having a very bad sound quality is out of the question..
2. Next, i tested it with a 2nd get Apple Ipod Touch because i wanted to know if the bluetooth headset was only compatible with SE products.. Sound quality - perfect.. Music controls - not working, except play/pause.. Track names do not show.. So this means that the headset is not closed to SE products and is in fact compatible (and has great music quality) with an apple product..
3. Lastly, i tested it with an SE x10 mini pro, thinking that maybe the problem's with android.. It was similar to the ipod touch experience: Sound quality - perfect, ALL Music controls work, tracks still not showing (because it's not a java based-phone).. So this means that the problem is with the SGS itself, not android..
So my question is, for the (very few) people who own an MW600 and an SGS, Do you experience this horrible sound quality as well?
IF YES: are you on a custom rom? what roms have you tried? have you tried reverting to stock rom and comparing the difference?
IF NO: what rom are you using? are you on a stock rom?
If some people report that the sound quality is horrible for ALL ROMS, then it is a problem of SGS itself.. But if some people report excellent quality on a different rom, then the problem is rom-specific..

I face the same problem but only when I use it for phone call. For listening the music the sound quality is good. Does anyone can give solution?

Woah a response.. Thank you for that.. I was kinda loosing hope in this thread..
Anyway, I have found reports that the sound quality for some galaxy s users is actually fine..
What rom are you using?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App

Was always fine for me on Darky's 9.x and now also fine on CM7.
Try a stock ROM...?

I've got the same problem Max_82 has.
Call quality si very bad , while music quality is ok... (strange...)
I'm running f1 s2 v6

Skype sound quality

The sound quality on Skype does not sound very good at all. I get frequent clicking sounds (every 5 seconds) and dropouts, my friends on other pda's say I saund very basey and the sound at my end is very is like the base has been turned almost to zeo and treble to full. I have tried Skype versions 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 but they are all the same. The headphones don't sound too bad when I listen to music so don't think its the headphones but can anyone recommend a better pair? When I switch to my Axim x61v, the skype (2.0) on that is 100% perfect so its not the connection.
One of my friends has an O2 HTC phone and the quality on his pda is perfect (running Skype 2.1). I tried his verson on the Kyser but its just as bad.
Anyone experiencing similar or can give me any suggestions?

Ive got the Orange tytn 11 and i install skype ver 2.2 on his and the quality was really bad.Im a big skype fan so im really dissapointed.Hope their is a fix around this.

Soudn Output
Hi,
Is the sound still outputting from earphone or HTC made something good and now we can hear it from the usual earpiece?
I mean, i would like to use SIP or Skype same way as a normal phone call, sounds coming out from the standard earpiece (not any headphone stuff).

Bluetooth headset reception quality

Hello guys.
I have a Plantronics Voyager 815 mono headset, which is supposed to be a rather good one. The reception quality is great, however people on the other end either don't hear me very well, or they're telling me it's as if I would talk from inside a barrel.
I usually hold the phone in my hand, so it's barely a meter or so away from the headset. When I just use the phone (no bluetooth), the sound is crystal clear both for me and the other side.
I was wondering what your experience might be with bluetooth headsets and if you could perhaps recommend one that would also have a good outgoing sound.
Thank you.
Hi pedmond, I use a motorola S9 mainly for music, no one ever phones me unless I'm at work or my Mum, But I love it, the sound and reception are great. I did have a problem where the sound kept dropping out for a few seconds then coming back but it seems sorted since my latest flash (Dutty's 1.6 awesome). On the S9 the mic is built into the tiny in-earphone in a single unit, background noise is minimal. One thing I did was play with the settings in Schaps adv. config. until I was totally happy, I know you must have done this, and searched everywhere and also posted in accessories too! Maybe you have fluff in the mic!
Thank you for the input, uniqueboy.
I played indeed with Schaps settings, but unless I'm mistaken they are for stereo headsets - mine is mono. Your S9 would be too big for that.
I'm mainly using it at work for business conversations; I also need it to be small enough to keep in my pocket.
The headset I have has an extending boom, which makes the microphone hole pretty much self cleaning, so I would guess there is no fluff (at least I can't see none).
It's a bit annoying I can't use my set in optimal conditions. I'm willing to buy a new one, I just don't want to get into a trial and error loop - this can get expensive pretty fast.
I also don't trust a lot what I read on the net - this headset comes highly recommended, but I find this not to be true.
I would thus rather learn from other people's experience.

hi bro,
I am using Jabra 5010 mono headset as well as I-Tech Blueband Pro stereo headset. Both, i do not have any problem with bluetooth and sound/voice quality.
not to jump into conclusion that your set might be faulty ... Have you done any tweaks to increase/decrease volume? if so, try to reset to default. or try another rom, if using a official rom or cook rom gives the same issue, then most likely it will be your headset thats causing the issue.

OK, this may be a silly question: can I increase the OUTGOING volume on a bluetooth headset? (mono)
Just to mark this problem solved: turned out my headset was defective. I've had it replaced today and finally everybody can hear me just fine
Thank you for your help.

[Q] A2DP Bluetooth bitpool quality

Hey Guys,
after weeks of trying and searching, i'm really considering to sell my Galaxy. But before i do so, i want to ask once more on this way, if anyone knows or at least got a clue about how to fix the bitpool/bitrate quality for bluetooth stereo streaming. It's important to me as i use my phone for music a lot.
The problem is known for some people, but not a lot coder/tweaker tried their luck on this yet.
The only way I know would be to flash cyanogen. I even tried it, but cyanogen is not for everyday use on the galaxy yet imo. It still has a lot more other bugs, and the battery life is much worse compared to my stock 2.3.3 rom.
Perfect solution for me would be a rom based on the stock gingerbread, with just the bitpool issue fixed. I'd even donate anyone who could fix that.
So if someone knows more about it or would give it a go and tries to fix it... I'd really appreciate that as apart of this issue i really like my Galaxy S
Have you tried gb stock ? I am on jvh and think Bluetooth streaming has improved. Try it and see if you hear the same way?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Hey fylim, thanks for your reply
Are you sure about that? Currently i'm on stock gb. I think JVB... is JVH newer?
EDIT: I've checked it i'm on JVB and modem is JVK. But i haven't read about any improvement on JVH yet... well i may try JVH then... I'd do everything to get it fixed :/
Ok, ive tried JVH... still the same aweful quality Ok, seems like i'll get a WIN7 phone soon then :/
You've got to be kidding me. Just use fre*kin wired headphones. The SGS +voodoo is like one of the best DAPs in the world and you're going to sell it because you want more quality with your bluetooth headset. Let me tell you something bluetooth and sound quality shouldn't be used in one sentence.
There is a reason i bought a bluetooth stereo headset. And just a little headup: You may have terrabytes of space on your SGS to save FLAC's or Wave files, but i bet you're using compressed music as well... So you shouldn't even start to think about "quality" even with wired headphones. So its not a qualified comment at all...
Also, like i stated before, i tried cyanogen and the quality with the bluetooth headset is the same as with wired ones. Also on my mates W7 phone its decent (after a 1 minute tweak)...

Dude, sorry to spam in your thread but I got bothered by that "not a qualified comment". First ,as I said the SGS with voodoo just blows out of the water almost all DAPs (and I mean dedicated music players). Second, yeah I have a 32GB micro sdhd card which I use with my SGS and I almost exclusively listen my music in flac or in mp3 which I have personally ripped. And I'm an audiophile with a vast collection of headphones (even bluetooth ones) and I know what I'm saying - even cheap wired headphones with voodoo sound way better than any bluetooth ones. It's your choice, I understand that wireless is more comfortable but trading an awesome phone with awesome audio quality for a Windows phone which doesn't even have Angry birds for it, let alone proper multitasking and stuff is a bad deal
There isn't much room to talk about quality even if we have 320's mp3's... Trust me, i'm really strict and sensible with such sounds issues, thats why it bothers me so much with the small bitrate on stock gingerbread. It sounds like 96 kbps compressed streaming. With cyanogen it seems to stream in the highest possible bitrate which is about 328 kbp's as far as i know (at least thats how fast it streams to the bluetooth devie on my pc). However, whats the difference between a 320 being played without bluetooth and with bluetooth? I can understand your argument if its a non compressed file format. But even Voodoo doesnt do magic with it. I got quite a bunch of cheap and expensive earplugs which i tested with, and without the bluetooth device. Trust me, you wont hear any differnce (on cyanogen at least)...
But anyway, i just tried the newest cyanogen build and some stuff got improved especially battery seems to be somewhat better... so maybe there's light at the end of the tunnel and i'll wait how cyan gets improved. I'll stick with my SGS then, as i know its sound is really good otherwise and also the rest

Terrible w/ My BT Headset Sony E. MW600

Well, I bought a MW600 BT headset last year for my Vivaz (SE).
(No quality I have wanted because of A2DP is not well developed for music)
After a half of year, I get my Galaxy Tab P1000 (at that moment it was official 2.2.1 )and tried to play music w/ it. But in result, a really really bad quality I have been gotten.
Well, then, I left it alone for a long while until the official 2.3.3 was released but however the result was still bad.
Unfortunately, the result in every custom rom / kernel is still getting wrong w/ it.
So far, I put it under my bed and leave alone forever.
Hi
i use the same BT Headset with the galaxytab and winmo65 for some months now. I have good sound quality with both devices. Some gtab roms have better a2dp, some older gave me disconnects every few seconds.
But the latest boca and cm9 roms works fine for me.

In fact I have forgone listening via bluetooth.
It is really poor when you comparing it w/ directly cable connect via 3.5mm socket (w/ Voodoo or other sth likely setter)
The problem is I always surfer the lagging when I am telephoning.
I don't know why it happens but this issue appeared on my fd phones as well.
But nothing happened on Vivaz. This puzzled me for a long while but not now.
Normally, I just wanna use it as a mic and plug my rubbish earphone for phone call.
Please forgive my poor English as I am not a native speaker.
Right before placing an order for this mw600,thinking to replace my sein for cycling and I like this mw600 to handle 2device, music also nice reduction.
So, and I wonder is there some issue using this with:
-gt-i9100/2.3.3
-gt-p1000/4.0.4

Tips for Xperia (v) owners with incompatible headphones

Hello all, I need to post 10 messages before being able to post one useful reply in the development part.
Having no idea what to write about, I just transform my (unpostable) answer in a useful thread where more people will find it and where i might even get useful reactions so that we all learn some things.
Ok, to the point:
When using most unofficial headphones, the telephone won't recognise the plug layout.
Depending on the rom/firmware it hasn't got the same consequences.
Sometimes there is sound coming out of the headphones and sometimes there isn't.
With the official Sony roms it wasn't a problem before (just a popup message stating the buttons unavailable) but I had the no sound problem on my V after updating to 4.3 too.
I have an xperia v and before that I had an xperia p, an app called SoundAbout has solved problems for both models, with all kinds of headsets and every rom, both on dalvik and art, so it might work for other models too.
I found it here on xda frontpage a few years ago and it never let me down.
I'm not affiliated with the creators by the way.
We got a free licence for the pro version here ont the xda forum at the time but I lost it and the free version does just fine.
It really is very simple, you start the app and redirect media sound to the headphones.
Another thing that I discovered only last Sunday:
The disadvantage of the SoundAbout app is that the phone considers the outgoing sound as going to the phones speaker, and thus a lot of audio enhancements like headphone surround don't work, you only have the options for the speaker that will have effect.
But I'm running a new rom now, 4.4.4 neowave, the fastest and best battery by far of all roms I have tested.
This rom uses viper4android, where i found an option to lock the settings, so that it is possible to use the headphone options on the speaker sound, and thus for the headphones when used with SoundAbout.
I don't care about mic or buttons working so I have no info about that.
But the sound on my v is finally perfect with my highend headphones, after years of searching how to.
I hope this helps someone, and that it makes other people as happy as I am.
Comon peeps, more than a hundred views but not a single reply?
I don't want to make a 10 post monologue to get to the limit of being able to feedback in rom topics....
Doesn't anybody care about sound quality on his phone ?
Are people getting used to choppy badly decoded music that much?
Am I unique in carying and listening my music on my phone?
I just want to drop by and say that this works indeed for all my NeoWave users, Xperia T ones included.
So if you have any earphone issues, try this app! :good:
Thanks for dropping by
I'm glad it works on the T too.
Personally I tried almost all roms for the V that are/were available here on xda, I haven't counted but that must be more than 20 roms, not counting the updates, and SoundAbout always worked.
For my P also I tried a lot of roms and mods, and no problems encountered with SoundAbout (a lot with incompatible headphones on official roms).
It seems that it is not guaranteed that the mic and buttons work, even with the pro version that has more options, at least that is what I found reading around on the Web, but I'm quite curious about the actual pro version.
Is there anyone that has experience with the pro version ?
I have not tried the pro version, but I have another question..
Do you have any experiences concerning the trial version? Is the usage limited to a certain amount of days or does the app provide most of its features for an unlimited amount of time?
Concerning the media sound routing there is no limitation.
The free version has the following options :
Service - on(background), on(foreground) , on(auto restart), off
Media audio - let app decide, speaker, headphones, headphones (with mic)
Notification behaviour - block notification to speaker on/off
Notification behaviour - block ringtones to speaker on/off
Notification behaviour - speak caller name options
Wired headset behaviour - set detection options when plugged in
In the pro version there are
Phone call redirection settings
Extra settings for text to speach
Bluetooth behavior
Dock behaviour
So, with the free version the headphones do not work for phonecalls.
As I already don't use my headphones for calling, it does not bother me.
hat does work is the widget (1 tile) that toggles sound redirection.
That's great. So the functionality we need is not limited. :good:

What exactly does not work?
It won't autodetect some headphones but if you set service to "on, foreground" and the media audio setting to "wired headphones" ?
Isn't there any sound coming through ?
Is there maybe an app that will make my Xperia V recognise my Nokia (TV Out) RCA cable?

If the jack has a standard layout, it will work.
Not sure that it will recognise it automatically though.
