[Q] 2.2 Vanilla Status Bar? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys was wondering if it would be possible to have a Nexus One/Droid - like statusbar on the Captivate. I love the notifications icons and white status bar. I'm on Serendipity rom right now. Thanks

You can go to the nexus one/droid forums and download the stock rom and take the png's out of the framework-res.apk. If you post the framework-res.apk or the system dump then I can do it for you.

ok sweet man thanks. I'll get the framework right now

ok here it is thanks so much

I will update. I am going to use assonance 4.3's framework as a base.

It looks like the white status bar isn't in it. I got the icons though. Is there any aok in the system dump called systemui.apk? Actually just give me a link to the system dump.

Ok sweet sounds good thanks

Alright I am done. I attached it. Just copy it to system/framework and replace the original and reboot. Take a backup first just in case it gives mass fc's.

thanks ill try it right now! ok everything looks freakin awesome .. no force closes! although i do have one minor gripe - I'm at 98 percent battery and my battery icon shows im at like 80- also the time is in white font which is kind of hard to read. Is there a fix to both of these issues? Also one last thing - is there a way i can change my gingerbread lockscreen to the froyo android one? Thanks again .. will definetely donate if u have paypal

The clock color is a quick status_bar.xml edit. The battery icons, I looked through the zip, are exactly right. Looks like the first few are a bit off. Would have to edit the .png's to make it look different.
Posted 100%, 98% and 80% for comparison.

Are you familiar with apk manager? It's the easiest tool I have found. Just started to mess with themeing myself. Used this post to get a start, very helpful.
[GUIDE] Want to learn how to theme?
I was looking for a reason to flash a differnet rom anyway. I might just try that out.

Dude I owe you man, you're doing a lot of work on this haha-I tried myself to edit some files and I'm completely flabbergasted and this is what i mean by froyo

Try the attached framework out. I fixed the lockscreen (I think. i didn't check it.) and the battery. Also try this twframework out. It has the big S in the background. I think I can to do time though. I am not experienced in smali edits. If you can find a JPY theme though that has a black clock though you can use the services.jar from that.
Don't worry about donations. My pleasure to help you.

[Q] [SOLVED] [THEMING HELP] GenieWidget.apk/Power Control Widget

I'm having some problems theming it. I want it to be like the one from BlackMod so I've extracted the one from BlackMod and put it in my theme so it should work now right? But it didn't it just showed the widget but not with the correct bagground etc. Then I took the GenieWidget.apk from the original ROM and themed it plus some pngs that is also in it. Something like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

}
but it's still not working :/ This is what the widget currently looks like BTW:
bro, did you sign it after you modded it to ur liking? from your first picture i just see the .9 borders, which are not supposed to be there after you run it through a compiler like Eclipse.

As it is a system apk it does not need to be signed. The borders are because of decompiling and I did recompile again afterwards. Also it does work but it doesn't have the correct layout. That's the issue

send me your images that you want for this geniewidget and power control and ill edit and sign it for you and then upload the apk. or if you want, i can create an update.zip like i did for this fellow in the Post Your Home Screen thread. let me know, i'm always happy to help.

I appreciate that but that is not the problem. The problem is that I have themed it (all pngs that needs theming) but it still stays as the matte Power Control Widget. I ask because someone might know if there are some other pngs in some other apks or if I have to edit some XML files or something. I have already created 2 themes so I know how it works (signing, update.zip etc.)

hm, assuming you know that power control widget is in the settings.apk and have edited that, my only other suggestion would be to check the framework because i do not know of any other place where they could be. however, from my experience, i find it always best to edit your apk within your theme (the actual .zip) and then sign that whole .zip if you want to avoid any issues. just my two cents for you. if the xml is stock, there should be no issues as to what is governing the correct .9.png. anyway, good luck .

Hehe it's for the Facebook app I took a themed version for some ROM I can't remember but it wasn't fully themed so I themed the rest myself and of course a lot of the 9 pngs was "broken" from the other themer so I need a totally transparent 9 png for the top thing (appwidget_top_white.9.png). Whenever I do it I just get an alpha error. I've attached the Facebook.apk (the original themed version not the one I themed) if you need more details
Thanks in advance I'll be sure to include you in the release notes hehe

ok sure no problem man. ive attached a fully transparent .9.png with that name. if you want to use it for other pngs, just make copies of the one i attached and rename it to whatever name you choose. good luck . it's there but you can't see it since it's totally transparent. to download it, just right click in the left corner or a little towards the middle of the left corner until you get the option to save image.

The Theme Flashed as an update.zip using the stock recovery mode or using MetaMorph.
It has been tested on I897UCJF6 and I897UCJH7. I cannot vouch that it will work on any other ROM.
A number of HTC elements have been blended while retaining a Droid “feel”. For example: It retains the android blue highlights vice the HTC Green. There really are too many changes to describe. Give it a try.
If you don’t like it, Return it back to the stock. I’ve included that too.
Note... Stock MetaMorph Revert: Due to Metamorph limitations the battery will remain 1-100%, but it will look stock (original SRE).
The Theme uses a blend of my custom graphics and source graphics from:
EVO 4G (many customized)
SRE 1-100% Battery (fully customized)
Changes are made to:
framework-res.apk
twframework-res.apk
Settings.apk
Email.apk
Gmail.apk
Mms.apk
MediaProvider.apk

Trying this now.
Works, and looks good.
Two problems I spotted...
1) Text in the notifications pulldown is black, not white like in the screenshot, so it's really hard to read.
2) The HTC icons are not showing up in the settings menu.
Thanks for checking it out...
On 1) Bummer... Not sure what to do about that though. The changes are to graphics only. The apk's don't mess with the font. Has your always been black? Mine has always been white.
On 2) I'll double check the apk and make sure I didn't screw something up. Although I swear I checked it.
Thanks Again
Hmm... after deleting user data the text in the notifications drawer is now white like it should be.

Two requests. Can we get a metamorph? I'd help you if I knew how, but sadly I do not. A lot of us use cognition, and it doesn't like update.zip themes.
2, can we get some jpgs? Trying to watch that gif is hard! Lol.
Otherwise, I think it's worth a try. Would have liked a semi transparent notification drawer as well though. Minimalistic got me hooked on that.

I believe I can work up metamorphs. I used to do them, but I think they are a bit of a pain. I understand a cognition deal though. It might be better if I come up with a zip that'll work with clockwork? I'll attempt both.

I've just check it.. it seems to be working at the moment. Megaupload does that once in a while. Usually if you give it a couple minutes it'll be back. Let me know if you are still having issues. I've added the metamorphs to the post, but the flash versions are too large.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EDIT: I'm having issues adding attachments for some reason... I'll need to try later. Hopefully its an "XDA system" thing.
That sucks... I'll work on other options, hopefully. I can't host the flash files here and XDA is not cooperating with attachments today for the metamorphs.
Maybe there is something in the air today.
Megauploads is having issues with capacity this afternoon.... hopefully it'll be up later. I don't have another answer at the moment... unless someone can host the files.
Hey I downloaded this morph and it looked pretty sick but then I decided to flash it back to stock. When i did that though, all my settings icons disappeared. Do you know how to get them back?
Change time and notifications color
I'm trying to fully port a full white theme over for the Captivate. I've got the theme working, and all that stuff ported over, the only thing is it's a full white taskbar, and all the type up there is also white. So I can't see the time, anything on the notifications, nothing. I have no idea where to look to get this going, so any help or pointers are very much appreciated. In case you're wondering, the theme I'm attempting to port over is sonnysekhon's Frost theme.
If you're using a froyo rom the instructions on the link wont work. They show you where to look but the code it looks for is wrong. If you post your "framework-res.apk" and "services.jar" both from your /system/framework/ folder on your phone I can change the color for you.
Thanks, it should be attached. I appreciate it. I need them changed to black, don't recall if I said that before or not. Thanks again!
I was actually able to get all the notification text changed. Only thing I'm having trouble with now is the clock. I assume that is what is in "services.jar" and I'm having trouble finding the line to edit in the classes.dex :/
My search will continue! And yeah, I'm doing this on a Froyo ROM, Assonance 4.3
Yeah you're right it's in "services.jar". Open the jar in winrar or 7zip and extract the classes.dex. Use "baksmali.jar" to decompile the dex file. Then open "com\android\server\status\StatusBarIcon.smali". The line you're looking for is in bold...
Code:
.prologue
[SIZE=4][B]const/4 v7, -0x1[/B][/SIZE]
const/4 v8, 0x0
.line 48
invoke-direct {p0}, Ljava/lang/Object;-><init>()V
The stock obviously is for white text... Change this to "const/high16 v7, -0x100" which is black.
Recompile with "smali.jar". Insert back into you're services.jar overwriting the original and push back to your phone. Reboot and you're set.
I attached the modded framework-res.apk and services.jar. Just push back to your /system/framework folder and reboot.
How's this? Close enough to the Gingerbread green for you? I went with the Gingerbread battery since the circle is going to take a while. The CWM is based off of Perception 8's framework files. Please know what you're flashing before you do it. I am not responsible if you flash this and it bricks your phone.
Yeah. I have to rebuild the circle from scratch though so I through that one out for now. I pulled the clock color directly from the gingerbread battery but you're right it does look off when applied. I'm gonna play with it some more to try and get the color right.
I was just gonna suggest one without location icon also. Glad to hear it's coming. Have enjoyed some of your work elswhere SoCal! Any plan to ditch the recent apps for some toggles? Those are the only 3 mods I really need for my framework. Any others would just be changing icons which I could swap in myself.
Thanks for the work!
Contains only a modded services.jar and framework-res.apk and is not flashable. I didn't intend for this to be used as an everyday theme mod. Just info for the community. There are more practical theme options popping up in other threads. Nothing fishy with me bro...
Okay I'm running stock Rom rooted can I use this been looking for,this and is this something that can be flashed via clock work recovery?
I wasn't aiming towards you, but the post that I quoted.
I went to DL from his link and checked the services.jar ZIPs that I already had and noticed a huge size difference. Stupid me, I didn't even see what you had posted, which was about the same size anyway. So, I thought the worst and asked a question, because the poster had a very low post count.
Anyway, thanks to both of you guys, I ended upflashing the 2nd zip from a few posts above and it looks great and does just what is says. I am not sure what the animated windows are yet. I haven't seen much of a difference with animations yet. Sorry for the judgement, just being safe...
I appreciate the work! THANKS!
Yep, thanks! Looking forward to it.
I am Miles also, haha, from Enc.
my little contribution to this.....if you want to add transparent background to the carrier header in the pull down menu.... unzip this file and put the xml in your framework-res.apk/res/layout-hdpi folder
[MOD] (Semi-)Transparent status bar for CM7 (only 2.3.7)
As the Mod from this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12815653) to make the statusbar transparent in CM7 is outdated, and users kept asking for an update, I decided to make it
VERY important: not all launchers handle this mod the same way!
In order to make it work, please note that:
ADWLauncher: works after unchecking "System Preferences" > "Wallpaper hack";
LauncherPro: works only with live wallpapers or with normal wallpapers, but you have to hide notification bar on "Appearance Settings" in LauncherPro.
Stock GB launcher: works, no issues.
Go Launcher EX: as LauncherPro users.
Hey sigurd_LU, any chance of making a 20% transparency mod?
Thanks!
Very kind of you to update this for all the plebs!
I can't get it to work with BlackIce 1.23 and Go Launcher though, unfortunately. It gives me a force-close every time.
By the way, Go launcher's menu selections are not the same as LauncherPro's...
I think although BlackIce is based on CM, the differences are big and this mod isn't compatible. Even if it wouldn't force-close: this replaces the whole SystemUI.apk which contains the status bar icons for example, so the whole BlackIce look would be changed as well.
Hm.. I used CM 7.1.0 as the base, looks like they changed something in the newest nightlies that conflicts with this mod.
Thx for this.
Flashed it (100% Transparency) via CWM and it work`s instant.
DHD - CM7 Stable - ADW Launcher EX, no config changes need.
Thanks man. Great job!
Umm, could you maybe give a few hints about how one has to do it, please? I'd like to try to get it on my SGS2. Thank you in advance!
edit: I mean, how do I have to modify *my* SystemUI.apk?
Thanks for the update. Nice work.
I don't know if it's exactly the same for your SystemUI, but here's how I've done it.
After decompiling the SystemUI.apk, go to smali\com\android\systemui\statusbar and open StatusBarService.smali with a text editor, for example Notepad++. Don't use the windows editor, it has problems with unix!
Search for const/4 v5, 0x2 and change it to const/4 v5, -0x3.
Then, go to res\drawable-hdpi and search for the following file: statusbar_background.9.png and edit it with Paint.NET, Photoshop or another programm that can handle transparency.
Here's for example my png for 50% transparency:
It looks solid here, but it's transparent, as you can see here:
Recompile afterwards, and you're done
Thanks, I'll try to do that this afternoon! I'll post back if it works.
---------- Post added at 02:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:31 PM ----------
Ok, the good news is it doesn't FC, but it's not transparent either. Sadly :-( If you have any more ideas, I'm all ears.
Well, either way, thank you very much for your time.
What launcher are you using? Maybe you forgot the specific settings, as stated in the first post.
Nah, I double checked with several launchers (ADW, Go, LauncherPro). :-/
Here's a quick screenshot of the edits:
The edge of the .png looked a little different from yours, if you are wondering why it's not identical to yours. I'm really confused that it doesn't do *anything* at all.
Your edits look good to me.
Maybe something went wrong while flashing..?
I did it manually, once over adb and once over ssh. Android is definitely using the modified file, the old one is in the same folder as SystemUI.apk.old and has a slightly different size. I'm on CM7.1 nightly (2.3.7), would that be a problem? There's (afaik) no stable for the SGS2 yet.
Maybe I did the (de)compiling wrong? Put SystemUI.apk in the appropriate folder, start batch script, select decompile. Go to extracted files and edit as seen above. Then restart the batch script and recompile. Say yes to "system apk?" and yes to "copy back as much as possible?" (or whatever it asked exactly, it certainly asked two things and I said yes to both^^).
This could be the problem! Say yes to the first question and no when it asks to copy over old files.
Hopefully it'll work now.
