Ok. I don't know if this will get stickied or not, I hope it will. Mods can feel free to change the title of the post if need be. Here's a stab at answering a few questions which are asked repeatedly.
First and foremost:
CLICK THE SEARCH BUTTON BEFORE ASKING ANYTHING WHATSOEVER.
Secondly:
IF YOU HAVE ROOTED YOUR PHONE, MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE...THEN SAVE A COPY OF IT TO YOUR DESKTOP
Don't even bother asking for help if you've screwed up a ROM install and don't have a backup. The only advice you'll get is to use the RUU (which can be found here).
Having gotten that out of the way here are some of the typical questions and answers.
#1. What's the fastest/best/most interesting/etc ROM out there.
Answer: Try them all and see. If you read the first page of each ROM thread the bugs/fixes are posted. If you see a thread without the bugs/fixes, READ THE THREAD FOR THAT ROM AND ASK YOUR QUESTIONS IN IT. Do not create a new thread to ask questions like: Does everything work in <INSERT ROMNAME HERE> rom?
#2. How do I...?
Answer: The answer to your question is probably http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=CDMA%20Hero%20Guides. If it's not there, it's almost definitely under search. Stop asking. Stop creating new threads. It just makes people mad and clutters up the forums.
#3. I think I bricked/broke/messed up my phone
Answer: Did you flash a GSM radio on top of a CDMA phone (or vice versa)? Then probably not. Pull your battery, restore from the NANDROID BACKUP I'm certain you made when you first rooted your phone and try again. Almost all bad ROM flashes can be fixed by wiping and reinstalling your ROM. Check your battery level. Never flash a ROM if the level is below 30%.
#4. I'm getting an error after using the RUU (110, etc)
Answer: Check the wiki guides above. There is a thread which tells you how to recover. If you are too lazy to read through the fixes, here is the thread.
#5. The Sprint 2.x upgrade is coming soon! I have pr00f!
Answer: No, you don't. Stop posting new threads to draw attention to yourself. The ROM upgrade will be out when it's out and not before Sprint is ready to release. Any release date you might have heard is tentative at best and flat out wrong in most cases. Stop creating threads about it, we don't care where you got your information.
#6. Audio doesn't work in my custom 2.x ROM
Answer: Try here. There are two fixes in this thread for it.
#7. I just flashed <INSERT ROMNAME HERE> ROM and everything's all screwed up.
Answer: Wipe everything and start over. In your nandroid recovery, select 'Wipe Data/Factory Reset'. When that's done wipe 'Dalvik-Cache'. Then when that's done (if you have installed a2sd (apps2sd)) wipe SD:EXT. Then reflash the ROM. 9 times out of 10 this will fix it. The 10th time, ask in the ROM thread, do NOT create a new thread for your issue.
#8. My battery life sucks. Or: What's the battery life on this ROM?
Answer:
Search. There are a lot of threads about battery life already. If your answer's not there, ask in the ROM thread (after searching that thread of course).
Android Terms:
a2sd/apps2sd: The process of moving user installed applications from internal storage to the SD card
Rosie: Typically used as a term describing certain graphical characteristics of the Android operating system, primarily the 'bottom bar' of the phone. Example: Stock Rosie is curved, espresso Rosie is not, with rounded edges.
Also:
"For the record, with 2.1 we CAN NOT just alter the rosie launcher or the taskbar or the HTC lockbar. The files are all tied up together. This means that, if you have installed someones taskbar mods, and then later you decide you want a different rosie, when you flash the new rosie it WILL undo some of the taskbar mods....UNLESS you have a themer do a custom just for you and provide them a link to the taskbar that you are using. I cannot stress the part about providing them a link enough. That is just common courtesy. There are plenty of folks out here willing to help you. Many will even help you learn to do it yourself. Just ask nice and be patient. This is a hobby for us, too, and we often have our own projects that we are working on." - tejasrichard
There is a way to do both, however:
"And a little correction about changing only the rosie or taskbar, you can if you use metamorph [/QUOTE]
You can find metamorph in the Android Market." -danaff37
JIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dalvik_virtual_machine Also see the following URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just-in-time_compilation.
LWP: Live Wallpapers. Animated wallpapers that run on your home screen. Until recently, not available in the HTC Sense UI.
MNS: Mobile Network Sharing. The act of using your cell phone as a USB or WIFI connected internet router. Example: Connecting your desktop/latop to the internet via your cell phone's mobile internet.
AOSP: Android Open Source Project http://source.android.com/
PRI: Profile of your phone. Used by your carrier to set up your network/internet settings.
PRL: Preferred Roaming List. List of cell towers close to your present location. This allows the phone to roam more easily since it has a built-in database of towers, rather than having to search for one.
This is getting too long, so I'm going to summarize:
No one likes reading the same questions over and over. If you can't be bothered to at least search for the answers, do us all a favor and don't say anything.
Stop saying things like 'I didn't feel like reading 300 pages of <INSERT ROMNAME HERE>'s thread. How do I?'...USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION TO SEARCH THAT THREAD.
If you don't read the guides, and instruction posts, then screw up your phone, don't whine about it. It's your own fault. It's not the fault of the ROM dev, or the ROM, or anything else. It's YOUR FAULT. Accept responsibility.
Did someone at the Sprint Store piss you off by not accepting your water damaged phone for replacement? Are you mad because they gave you a refurb instead of a brand new phone? We don't care. This is a DEVELOPMENT FORUM. It's for development of roms/themes/etc and discussions of roms/themes/etc. It's not a place to whine that you're being treated badly by Sprint. Post about it on Sprint's forums.
I think that covers the basics. If you're new here, do us all a favor and read this post, follow what's inside it. If you're not new and are a chronic whiner, read this post, follow what's inside it. Just stop cluttering the forums and making it impossible to find any information in it at all.
EPIC!!!!

Ok, so I am fairly new and broke 4 out of the 7 rules... But I am behaving now, and actually appreciate the basis of this Thread. That said. I didn't know what I didn't know and having this Thread at least gives new folks clear and pointed fair warning.
Great POST!!!!
lol
It wasn't aimed at you specifically, or at anyone really. It's just a general set of guidelines designed to curb repetitive posting.

Thank you! Honestly it's sad you have to make a thread like this, but it was definitely needed. Wayyy too many noobs come here asking questions that have been answered many many times over.
great read! But you know the only ones who actually read this are those of us that actually follow the guidelines and it will simply pass by the 'others' without a second glance lol
yeah, maybe edit the title to official 2.1 sprint download... haha

Perhaps. But if those of us who follow the guidelines refuse to ANSWER the noobs who don't read this, except for maybe a link to this thread, there will be fewer BS threads to have to deal with.

What terms specifically? I'll add them to the OP.
Edit: Added the two you listed.
Nothing specifically, at this very moment but, I come across new ones all the time when reading different posts. If it's cool, I'll just keep posting them here as I come to them and, if you think they should be in the op you can add them there or, if not, maybe just reply back down in the thread.
BTW. I know that I can google most terms and find them, and I have no problem whatsoever doing that, it's just nice when someone coming here to learn can expedite the process a lil with the help of some of the seniors.

Not helpful. The point here is not to create a thread full of *****ing, but to create a SINGLE thread so that we don't have 15000000 posts of the same thing. So if you can't help, stfu.
I'll add the other terms listed to the front page.
please anyone who cares about this forum, please make a rule, something and arrange the topics by criteria, rom problem, rom request, rom developers, and so etc something like that. is verry hard to read all the posts. dono how to display more post per page. anyway is toooo crawded in here. cleaning is needed. 10x

I find it organized just fine and find whatever I need in the sections it is posted under. Another problem is that you expect everything you need to be separately posted without having to look for it. In fact, I find requests like yours interesting, considering the overall number of posts by you....

Can`t say i`ve overposted, but i`m reading this stuff for a while. I will post from now on if that satisfy s u.
Hey there, ther should only be ROM dev going on here. Rom Probs should be asked in the appropriate thread. I also move all other generic Q's to Q&A , but your right, the forum does need cleaning as i've been away for a few weeks
If you have any other issues, feel free to contact me.
Oh, and moved to general
Hi everybody,
Firstly i'm not on the CM page so i don't want people who come just to say "stop asking or anything". I'm here to search a solution with everybody.
So, recently the gingerbrread rom for G2X, Atrix 4g, and a leak for O2X has been released. The A2DP is working in all of its. Isn't it possible to extract the A2DP drivers from one of those rom and to inject in the CM kernel? What's the problem? I think that the atrix, the O2Xand the G2X had a later update to gingerbread because of nvidia not LG or Motorola.
Thanks for reading and helping
Sorry for my bad english
1 - use search
2 - This has nothing to do with the version. If I build CM6 for the O2X I'll have the exact same problem.
3 - I'm getting pretty tired of hearing about how magic binary releases will fix ****, on this or any other devices. Read the brazillion existing posts about it. Until source appears, you won't get A2DP unless you use stock (straight or cooked).
@aremcee, we're many O2X and G2X owners around, eagerly hoping for the source to be released. I think it won't, but still one can wish, right? ;-)
Ordered a new car with a A2DP enabled stereo. That's why I so badly wants this in CM7. Going back to stock is just not good enough ;-)
Can't you just extract the files from the HTC Desire ROM to make it work..it has bluetooth too????????
...sarcasm
Op is only asking, no need to be rude. He doesn't want to read 7,124 replies in the CM thread, and neither would I. A simple No it can not be extracted from the GB leak and used in CM would be the answer he was looking for. If you're really that tired aremcee then simply IGNORE the post.
I dont really understand why cooked roms, gingerbread or otherwise, can use the binary A2DP app/driver, while CM7 cannot.
Do we lack the header files needed to know what functions to call in said binary?

but sometimes just using the search is not the best option because everything is out of context, thats what I meant. Although us with a little bit of technical knowledge can follow it, those that are not as technically minded might not be able to pick up the searched conversation as easy. I do agree that people should use the search MORE than they do.
those technically inexperienced shouldn't be posting QUESTIONS in the DEVELOPMENT SECTION in the very first place.
The thread title is misleading users of this forum into thinking that he has some solution to the problem.
I follow since the beginning the CM and i thought that with the recent leaks the situation will change... I don't think that somebody on this forum has already asked if with the recent leaks it were possible to make it work. Maybe You don't take the time to read my ask because i'm not a developer.
@fallout0: too funny you should be a big contributor with that kind of answer...

I think moderator should delete this thread instead - it is totally misleading. A short note on aremcee's CM7 Nightly thread 1st post about the A2DP should suffice. Whoever wishes to have CM7 on this device should at least read aremcee's 1st post on that thread (if aremcee chooses to post it).

Haree, if you read this, could you close this thread or something, as the question has been answered and further posts aren't needed?
I dont mind if the title is changed to reflect the fact that it is a question and not a project in development. And it can even be locked since its purpose has been served. However, I dont ever agree with thread deletion. Its not a transparent method of moderation.

I'm not against the OP or anything.
This thread should not have started in the first place. aremcee had said one too many times and there were several not too positive posts in the nightly thread when I replied someone that A2DP question will be ignored. - exactly what aremcee said and I do agree with him to certain extend.
When it is ready, I'm sure aremcee will announce it. He is actually rather active in giving us insights on what's happening especially with regards to tegra and whats not. Not forgetting correcting us when we were wrong on some comments.
Oh...and yeah probably you are right. Lock this thread may be an alternative choice.
Totally agree with Temasek, if anyone make a thread for asking question in dev section, this will be a mess like CM7 nightlies thread in the samsung galaxy s2 dev thread ...
Last question
Okay guys,
Let me a chance to ask a little question, is one of you able to explain me why the phone bluetooth call il working well and the audio part no ?
I mean is there is two chipset one for audio and one for phone call ?
By the way, for frustating guy who are angry for my question, please just ignore it !
Regards
In a nut shell, the bit that passes the audio is missing.
Thanks for your answer, so it seems to be clearly a problem of software. I mean dev need to have the original code for the audio connexion with the chipset.
So we are all waiting Nvidia and the talent of all android dev to solve the issue...
I help develop and test the Tk-Glitch kernel, and recently found myself with two Captivates. The second does not have a SIM card in it ever, just on airplane mode with wifi enabled. My question is first: can the No Service be taken off of the lockscreen and the notification area, and second: What do you think I can take out of the ROM itself to make it as light as possible for developing?
This is probably not exactly what you are looking for, but look through this thread to see if anything here would be helpful. The same poster had another thread with more specific info about remiving things.

He had an earlier thread with some specifics about what was taken out. It was in Captivate General, or maybe Q&A. Try searching on his user name.
Why don't you hit up nitr8 or sam who runs surface in the i9000 forum. They publish ultra lite roms that you can add what you need to
Would someone care to reference the difference between all the roms? JVS etc every week that I come on here I have to search what the new rom letters mean. Maybe you can make a sticky making it easier for everyone?
This thread is not going to end well.
I don't really care, they sticky everything so why not what roms are for our phones and what ones are ported. Also what order the came out in. Im done with the captivate this weekend anyway, its only a suggestion.
First, id say what your looking for is already clearly available. 2nd, id say this should be in the development section.

http://www.sammobile.com/threads/36-Samsung-Letter-Code. This is good with i897, but I'm still not sure about the i9000 rom lettering system, i.e JVT = ??
You may have to register and login to see this, not sure though. Hope it helps anyway.

I'll get straight to the point....
Despite stickys and forum announcements most of us are still finding ourselves becoming terribly, terribly vexed at the amount of [Q]'s cluttering the dev section...
Therefore, from now on, if you do not follow the rules outlined below, you will be infracted. Break them again and you may find yourself unable to post anything at all on any forum!!
If you cannot read and abide by the simple rules in this sticky then I dont know how you're going to manage to hack your device without running into trouble.
The Dev section is NOT for asking questions.....
The Dev section is NOT for general topics..........
All threads posted MUST be prefixed with a description of the thread, [ROM] / [Kernel] etc etc.....*
*(Not planning on being particuarly strict on this. You guys (the devs), know how to title a thread.... just a pointer for new devs.)
Basically, unless your thread is to actually release something or discuss something of a very technical and n00b unfriendly nature, it doesnt belong here!
Pretty simple really.....
If you see something that shouldnt be here then PM me....
I will try to check in as reguarly as I can but I have a few sections to keep an eye on and believe it or not, a life outside XDA
Yes thats right, there is life outside XDA
