Well since you didnt write WHICH apps or WHICH home I suppose you are speaking about the Samsung ones, which are written for 240 DPI and not compatible with other ones.
There are versions here for the apps or home working on the smaller DPI but you have to search.
But rather then that, use alternatives likes launcher pro for home and for apps, depends what you want.
Also in spare parts, uncheck compatibility mode can help you with some apps
Btw I dont use some third party app change the density since its just a line you have to change in build.prop. So I dont know if it has some special functions making the apps compatible

Sorry if the question is silly, I'm curious about which are the advantages in using those roms. It seems that it's not possible to install more objects in the windows, only the widgets are smaller and uglier... But I'm quite sure I'm wrong, and would like to learn a bit more...
It increases the amount of data shown in the screen. For example I can see much more of text in tapatalk/browser while using lower dpi value. Find some dpi apps from market and look preview pics about the change
I'm using now 190 dpi and it's just perfect for me

Thank you! But this increased amount you set in screen, can also be put in the home? I mean, is it possible to set a 5x5 widget, for example?

This depends more on the launcher you're using, I'd say.
But if you decrease DPI, the home screen size/estate also increases, yes.
Basically 182Dpi accustomed Roms offer you a fully scaled Samsung Dialer, music player, calculator, touchwiz, and some more apps
LCD density 120 .. nice but a lot of programs and functions are not completely visable
if i change it to 110 or 115 than i get the following
the good:
My icons in a 5 x 4 raster looks great
In widget locker i can finally set the lockscreen volume and i have more space in the screen
Some widgets like beautiful clock/weather look even better than before
in the USSD code screens i can finally see all the lines/inputs
the bad:
Zoner AV crashes immediately - when it tries to generate the icon in the status bar
Games like coindozer comes to almost a complete halt
Gallery takes hours to create thumbnails
is there an option/setting to make it all come to work ?
A.
There is a fixed dpi setting for your phone.. If you change it some apps won't work.. For all apps to work, you must use the default dpi settings
Iwas already afraid of that

Hello,
I used rom toolbox to lower LCD density from 240 to 190, as a result I got much more usable space on phone because all the icons are smaller and much more content can fit on screen while everything is still readable.
There can be some bugs that have to be fixed by custom launchers so heres my setup:
-Official ICS V30a rooted rom
-apex launcher
-grid size set to one higher than stock
-rom toolbox pro (free version works as well)
-(UPDATE 1) widgetlocker for lockscreen
Only bug that apears with this setup is on a lockscreen, transparen gradiant is small, visible and ugly but Im gonna fix that with custom lockscreen and update you on that.
Have you ever tried this? Whats your experience?
Heres how to do this:
ROOT REQUIERED!
Get rom toolbox, go to performance, click build.prop, click file icon upper left in top action bar and you will see LCD density. Set it to 190, reboot. Then play arround with launcher to make it look good.
UPDATE 1: I used widgetlocker to configure lockscreen and that completes the setup.

Hi everyone!
Just got my GN4 and rooted it. So I like a higher pixel density, and lowered it from default 640 to 480, but the camera app won't fill the screen. It's a small window in one corner and black on the rest. Been trying to figure this out for a few hours and would appreciate some help. Hoping I don't have to figure out how to decompile the app and recompile.
Thanks in advance!
You'll need to use a xposed mod like app settings to change the lcd density of stock apps back to 640. Most apps scale automatically, generally stock Samsung ones don't like camera, contacts, and so on.

This worked great! Only the lockscreen is refusing to cooperate but I can deal with that! thanks a million!

Hi,
Does anyone know how to changed the icon font size on the home screen and app drawer? The text is ridiculous small that it's causing my eyes to strain. I've tried increasing the font size but it does nothing for icons.
Thanks.
Stock launcher has very few personalization settings. You should change launcher and choose something like nova or lawnchair.

Nova was the first thing I thought of. I'm coming from the Mate 10 16.9 ratio and can't get use to the new 20.9 ratio. It like my TV remote. It's a nice phone but I think I will send it back as I like a wider screen
In Developer option change dpi size, higher value give more little font and viceversa
