Will LG's Bootloaders be locked? - LG Optimus 2x

Does anyone know if the bootloaders will be locked on these devices?

Very strong possibilty of being unlocked, some guy on here claims to have already rooted the 2x with either oneclickroot or z4root method.

How does using those imply unlocked bootloader?
Those work fine on Droid 2, and I know for a fact its bootloader is locked.

i have no evidence to support this but its just my way of thinking...my guess would have to be that it will be unlocked because these companies are seeing that more people like to have the ability to do a complete overhaul on the phone that they own...so from a sales point wouldnt it be a better idea to have it unlocked so its more customizable?

It doesn't. Take the Optimus One as an example: it can be rooted, but the bootloader is locked.

I read that the bootloader is unlocked. Where do you read that? Maybe I have misread it.

I know that the bootloader is locked on the LG Optimus One, because I own one.
We have an entire thread dedicated to this problem: you can find it here.

For me (and for these guys) "unlocked bootloader" means "fastboot enabled bootloader" which in turn means "I can boot whatever OS I want (without having to modify the firmware)". The bootloader of the Optimus One is not fastboot enabled. But once you root the phone you are free to flash custom roms, if this is what you meant.

Hmm, let me clarify.
Droid 1 = Unlocked Bootloader
Droid 2 = Locked Bootloader
Which one does LG's phones resemble more?

Of course I cannot guarantee anything about the Optimus 2x, but until now (Optimus GW620, Optimus GT540, Optimus One, Optimus Chic) LG's phones have been more like Droid 1. Custom roms boot just fine.

So you didn't have to use the chainloader thing that you have to use to get custom roms on the Droid 2?
You can flash Clockwork or SPRecovery and go from there?

Yes.

I've asked via Facebook to LG Italy (it's where I live) and they said that the LG 2x will be probably bootlocked.
Now, I can't be sure that they've real information, but this is what they said.

Between , and
hahaha!

Let's see OptimusQ as example. (OptimusQ is enable to fastboot in some firmware)
Without fastboot, you can flash custom kernel.
Simply
cat /dev/mtd/mtd0 > /sdcard/boot.img
,and you can extract boot partition. This .img includes kernel and ramdisk.
http://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=HOWTO:_Unpack,_Edit,_and_Re-Pack_Boot_Images this link will help you when unpack, edit, repack the boot.img
By using flash_image command, you can flash custom kernel without FB(FastBoot).
.
.
.
i have my own LG-SU660(Op2x),
but proc/mtd file has no information.....so i can't find boot, misc,...and so on partitions.
Anybody help?

I think it's not a question of "Is the bootloader locked?" but "how easy is it to unlock it?"
cheers,
Mehrsau

Yeah, I think the most important question is if it will be possible to flash Custom ROM's. How it's done is not as important, at least not for me.

It's my understanding that virtually every carrier demands that the phone's bootloader be locked if you're getting the phone subsidized. Just pray the bootloader isn't signed with an encryption key.

A question about root on the 4X HD

Hi everyone!
Sorry for my English but I'm Italian
I'm an iPhone user and I don't know anything about Android, but I'm going to buy an Android smartphone and I have wavered between the 4X HD and the One X.
Generally I find the 4X HD better, but now I'd buy the One X because of its lots of ROMs.
On the 4X HD there isn't the root access ( for now ) but you know that a video showed the 4X running a beta version of CyanogenMod 10! Now, I know that "CM 10 on the 4X" isn't equal tob "root access" because it woulded be a developer version of the 4X, but why was the CM team supposed to work on the 4X HD if nobody can install their ROM on it?
What I mean is that, in my opinion, there's a way to have root access on the 4X HD and maybe somebody already knows it, but doesn't tell us how to have it....
But I'm just a 16 yo boy and an iPhone user, so I'd like to hear your opinions, too. What do you think about the root access on the 4X HD?
Thank you very much

that must be a no in stereo patience though, and it will show up.
whats the fun about having a root'd phone, and not getting any roms or any news kernels to use with it.
its like having lots of money, its no fun if you got no one to share it with
Enjoy the stock while you can
the cyanogen mod developer you saw was using a developer version of the 4X, it probably had an unlocked boot loader that allowed him to install a different rom with root access. These phones are only available to developers and are not the same as retail version. On the retail version they lock the boot loader and secure the access to the internal system folders so no one can tamper with it. Eventually someone might figure out how to Root the device and then we'll have all the access we need.
Bear in mind that Rooting any phone will void your warranty and you wont get support from LG if they know it's rooted, you'll have to be sure you want to do it. So far in some of the phones I've seen they could be Un Rooted to regain the warranty, a Rooted phone has it's advantages like the App called Cerberus which has a feature to not get deleted if the thief factory resets the phone so you could locate it again.
Any time I have a problem with my HTC Sensation I come to XDA for Solutions, and thats rooted and bootloader unlocked.
I'm hopeing to get my hands on the 4X once it's realeased in the UK

in our case with the Tegra3 chipset, we have another problem, which is the secure boot, which is locked by SBK (SecureBootKey) that is also needed to flash a new boot or getting a unlocker from LG, which is previously seen by Asus being distributed.. on some other tegra3 models they solution was simply booting into fastboot and sending "fastboot oem unlock" but i have personally not been able to run fastboot.
but root is not the only requirement to get CM10 we need more , to be able to flash their changes or even boot it.

Hi!
Please correct me if I am wrong. I am confused a bit about locked bootloader and SBK.
- Locked bootloader prevents device to run custom ROM and custom recovery.
- SBK is kind of encryption when sending command in APX mode.
This means we need both unlocked bootloader and SBK for rooting 4X right?
Thanks

you are correct
and that means its kinda useless to buy/keep the phone, because we probably never get CM10?!?
I don’t think LG will unlock the bootloaders...
HTC initially never unlocked the Sensation bootloader but it still got unlocked by devs.
We just need to find an exploit somewhere and someone with the knowledge to use it.
Problem that I can see so far is that the phones lack of availability is restricting the user base.

well, HTC and their mobiles got a huge fanbase, so comparing Tegra3 to that kind of community with 1000+ downloads on a mod, is not really nice
with Tegra2, we got the bootloader hacked in the Acer500 section.
but Tegra3 comes with the SBK and encyption of partitions on top, and even APX mode is not compatible yet.
its a long way to go to achieve some root functionality and CM10.

[Q] Bootloader feature or issue?

After installing custom roms, the bootloader on my device goes back to locked status ("fastboot getvar all").
"adb reboot bootloader" shows "Now Ready" in upper left corner, S/W Update mode say "Bootloader Unlocked", but still locked...
I have to re-run "adb reboot oem-unlock" to solve this. No factory reset after this.
Any one else with this problem?
If it's running the ROMs fine its unlocked. And it stays unlocked. Regardless of what any tool says if its accepting custom stuff it's unlocked

Great. Thanks
G4 newbie here, so the bootloader is fully unlocked on the T-Mobile version then? You don't have to do the official LG Developer unlock method that currently only the 815 EUR model can do?
When ROMs drop, you have full access to the phone? Just want to confirm, I had a non EUR model on AT&T that worked great, but was sick of not having any access to the system. Does the H811 have the bands required for AT&T?

Question to anyone willing to answer:
How did people figure out that enabling OEM unlock made the bootloader be unlocked on the T-Mobile variant? I'm wondering because we have very little info on the H812 variant to determine if this technique would work. And please don't give me that canned answer "IT ONLY WORKS ON H815 and H811", as I know what I'm doing... I just want to understand why the H811 T-Mobile is different and if other more obscure variants could also have this solution.
Thanks!
I Attempted to flash the twrp one click recovery to my friends LG G4 H811 TMOBILE, I went to developer mode, checked the box to OEM UNLOCK, and whenever the phone reboots to Fastboot or Download mode, if done by the H811 one click bat script, the phone only reboots regularly, if i manually adb reboot-fastboot then the screen shows a barcode, and the phones IMEI number. Whats up with this?

The H811 Tmo is different because the carrier, TMO, decided to allow it to be unlocked. That is pretty much all there is to it. I am sure that is frustrating to non H815 and H811 owners.

The first post in that thread says:
"T-Mobile USA LG G4 H811 10H. WILL NOT WORK ON 10N."
I have the 10N. I also don't have a Windows computer. Where can I find instructions for obtaining root? (I prefer a manual method using Linux commands if possible.)

What keeps us from flashing H815 and h811 Roms onto our phones?

We have flashify/flashfire, so why can't we just flash using these?

If the rom is using the stock kernel there is no problem. That is why we don't have AOSP like CM 13 yet.
In theory you could flash a rom form another G4 but your radio probably won't work. I remember that with the G3 you could do this and then there was a fix for the radio to get it working but they also have an unlocked bootloader.

TWRP has a custom kernel. It is pretty much a kernel image so you need an unlocked bootloader. As far as unlocking the bootloader, it has a encryption key. If we had that we would be good but we don't so we need to bypass it somehow.
I think that our best bet is to wait and see if the sprint g5 gets unlocked and try to use that. Other than that I remember with the droid razr maxx that I had they used a program called safestrap instead of TWRP. It essentially took the stock kernel and loaded whatever you told it to software wise. However it had a boot screen which took 5 seconds longer to boot. Kind of like dual booting on a PC with grub.
P.S. I'm looking to get a Sprint G4 and start development on it but they are still too expensive.

Development is dead on this device. We can make stock modified system images hardly call it a rom. Ure wasting ure time buying this. There will not be a bootloader unlock. Cant be hacked as of yet some of the worlds greatest android minds have tried may even still be. Fact is its prob not gonna happent any time soon. And the solution will either come from g5 or whatever they make after that. The bootloader partitions are to highly encrypted to hack. It does it really sucks but like i said lost cause

How to root the European LG V40 without issues?

Hey all! I'm wondering if there's a straightforward guide to unlock, flash TWRP and root (magisk) on the European LG V40. The fora I read are mostly about the US model, and I read many issues with partitions and the enforcing thing. What does the enforcing mean exactly?
I just want to have magisk with root on stock rom. I guess I won't be able to have OTA updates when done that, right?
So if you have an European LG V40 could you maybe help me to successfully root the V40? If so, I'm gonna buy one (wanted to be sure first).
Thanks!
