I've been looking all over but can't seem to find if there is a way to run linux on my Droid 1?
Since Android technically is Linux, you're already there...
Otherwise, I only got this german Thread about installing Debian on the Milestone..german only, maybe Google Translate may help, sorry.

Hi there everyone,
I just got my Motorola Milestone (Germany) with the QWERTZ keyboard. I am new to android after many years of Symbian & Windows Mobile. I have several apps on those platform and would need to start searching for alternatives on the android platform now.
I would like you all to please give me hints, tips & tricks on how to make my milestone so much fun to use. My milestone came with android 2.1-update1 firmware.
I would like to know how to root this device, good apps for this device and all the goodies. Thanks for your contribution & helping me have a smooth move to the android OS
No one suggesting anything or am I the only one moving from Windows OS to Android???

Hi!
Have anyone already tried to compile stunnel for galaxy tab?
I saw somebody that could compiled it for android 2.1 and make it possible to be used at my backflip (http://blog.tempest.com.br/marco-carnut/autenticacao-mutua-https-android-stunnel.html, in Portuguese). Although, I didn't find anybody that managed to do the same for Froyo and the version compiled there can't be run on GTAB.
So, can anyone compile stunnel with SSL support for me or help me to do that?
I have already tried to download android SDK and NDK to cross-compile it but I had no luck. After some modifications, I got an executable that doesn't show anything on screen...
Thanks,
Ronan
Maybe tunneloid can be used instead. Sorry, cant post links, but it is available via google and/or market.

Thanks for the answer, I really think it should work for what I need. Unfortunately, I just can't find it at Market or the .apk at internet and it seems to be only in Japanese.
Thanks!
Probably none of you need this , but i know one person needs this for sure. I made a post on madteam for how to run debian on an android device. So here it is : http://www.madteam.co/2012/02/29/debian-on-android/ . Hope someone needs it

Thank you .. I needed this a few weeks age but I feel my SGM cannot run debian or Ubuntu on top of Android!
I wait for Ubuntu for Android project to be true .. it will share the same kernel with Android

if any body want to run ubuntu on there devices then they can do this by simply downloading a free app from market called ubuntu installer
it will need you to download an ubuntu.img file link is given in the app no need to create one manually
terminal emulator
android vnc and
ubuntu.sh script
its a very easy procedure to do so just download the app from market and start using ubuntu
Well if you need something easy go with iOS and you would've at least scrolled trough the guide before talking. Seems that you didn't. But since you are talking about ubuntu, create your own thread about ubuntu on android. This is a thread to talk about debian on android using the guide i provided.

please....please, if there is, and i havent found it ( it will be a miracle ) on this site, give me a link to it, or just give me a yes or no answer.
I wouldnt post this if i hadnt had enaugh searching.
Im more interesting in modifying one, not particulary to build one.

these people can help you i guess
@Mardon , @SpaceCaker
On windows you can use this http://www.modaco.com/topic/340710-tool-edit-bootimg/ which is not very useful
Or I know someone who use PuTTY to compile sources on windows, but I don't know how it works as I have a Mac to compile android, so you need to do some searches and see how it works

" Updated the program. You can't edit ramdisk on windows... you can only list his content because windows doesn't suport systemlinks.
Also added a linux version. Enjoy "
This is a post from that link.
all im looking for, in makeing a kernel work on ext part and not on internal memory.
Plus, i have kitchen...and thats what im working with...but still, i cant find a program to allow me to edit the zImage file, where, i guess ( from what i've been reading around here ) i need to edit those things for ext part.
In fact, who can help me, and edit a kernel for me ) i think that is my last resort, as i cant get, and probably wont, install ubuntu on my laptop, just for that

Hi. On phones like ZE551ML is possible to install a normal linux ? Since it uses a x86 atom cpu, and the bootloader (isnt it bios?) has been unlocked ?
Of course not along with android, no emulators, no android kernel and all that crap...

I never found any thread on git or Ubuntu phones ever where someone talked specifically about this handset. Maybe yes you are right. Now most of the developers already left this phone. Booting Linux needs lot of knowledge. So it's futile now to think about it now I guess. BTW you opened this thread in wrong section. Please report this thread to be moved to general questions and answers. Have a great day
Ok ill delete this soon...

Look like you are talking of installing linux on a ARM cpu. On a x86 CPU it shouldnt be so hard, like you can install easly linux on any pc. this should be the same...
Looking around, look like its not possible.
But how is it possible ???
Devs come back on this forum please! :crying:
I know the phone is old but there are not many other intel phones...
