After screwing up the boot of my NC, this was a lifesaver when imgwriting to my SD card and needing more room for the ZIP files to recover...
Giveaway of the Day - EASEUS Partition Master 7.0.1 Pro
Today only, so go!
Great find!
Thanks...
In case anyone misses the free giveaway today, the free home version is almost identical to the Pro version. Only differences are that Pro support tickets get higher priority and you can create a bootable CD to manage your partitions with Pro. Otherwise, I've used the Home version for quite some time and it works just fine for my needs.

Hi, All
Just wondering what the best app for benchmarking my MicroSD HC
Thanks
Jaw$
There are a few apps that can benchmark an SD card. The few that I use are PC based...nothing that runs on the phone itself.
Flash memory Toolkit (the standard version is free, the pro version is not) www.flashmemorytoolkit.com
HD Tune (this one has a free trial) www.hdtune.com
Crystal Disk Mark (this one is free) crystalmark.info/software/CrystalDiskMark/index-e.html
As with any software... YMMV

This app allows you to mount sdcard2 through usb. Thought I would share. I remember some discussion about whether to mount internal or external sd card by default, with this you can mount internal by default and then just switch between the two relatively quickly.

Just a quick note:
CyanogenMOD 7.0.3 Stable will mount BOTH Internal and External SD Cards upon connecting and activating USB.
No third party apps needed.
fail... do not tell me to remove adblocker. Put out a lite version or time demo but do not tell me what to do with my android.
If it worked, I was going to buy it. But since you like to freeze my tablet for 30sec, bye bye. I hate advertising, but have a loose enough wallet to buy anything i use.
sorry.

Don't apologize for having standards. I agree wholeheartedly with you.
Half of the apps I try are so obnoxious with their ads that I uninstall and add them to a list of apps I won't buy.
A full version with full functionality that times out after 30 days or so (giving you a chance to REALLY try it out) does not seem like too much to ask.
I don't get what happened. I tried it and l don't see any ads. There are a few features disabled in the free one.

I've been using automount - seems to work fine for my usage (USB memory sticks)
I have a very strange problem:
I cannot add the widget to my home screens!
I tried lite version and full version.
Every time I go to the personalize - widget list and click to multi mount sd-card I get the app open instead of adding it to home screen.
Days before it worked correct but since some days ...
I need people to confirm this for me. Reply and let me know if this worked for you, reporting your free space before, during, and after the install. Since free space does not update, you have to keep opening and closing the details page for free space in the storage settings.
I believe that putting a XAP (freely downloadable from the windows phone store website) onto your SD card and installing *from* the SD card is more efficient. This might help people install large games, especially if they have an issue with a large "Other" taking up space.
I have 264MB of free space left on my 820. If I try to go install Final Fantasy (92MB) it won't let me: it says I'm out of space. However, if I install it from the SD card, it just installs!
However, you still need enough space for the extracted XAP. I kept checking the free space as it was installing, and it went as low as 50MB before jumping back up to 120MB.
Going by that, it seems you need roughly 2.4x the size of the app in free space in order to install it. I'm fairly sure the XAP is *not* copied into local storage, which it would be if you were downloading from the store. This is because I could not install asphalt 7 from the store when I had OVER 3GB free, which is over 3x the size of the xap itself (maybe even 4x!). Of course, I don't know if my findings scale up and I'm not keen on uninstalling asphalt 7 only to find that I can't install it again.

Hi All, at the risk of being flamed with a crazy n00b question, I'm trying to figure out the best way to use the microSD card. Got 3 of these Kindle Fire's for Christmas for my 10, 8, and 5 yr old boys. The parental controls look fabulous for my needs for them, the obvious problem is the internal storage. I'm reading up as much as I can, realizing root is my saving grace (Thank you Tomsgt!!!!) for getting apps to move to the microSD card, I'm trying to figure out the best/easiest program to make this actually happen.
What are you all using? Any pre-requisites to make this happen (besides root)? Do I have to setup symbolic links, or is there a way to make this all automagic? Is there a way to make content automatically download to the SD card or do I just need to plan on managing this a little an app at a time to move after install?
I tried Link2SD, followed some guides I found, but the immediate problem I found was I wasn't able to copy anything onto the FAT32 partition when it's in the Fire and the Fire is in my computer. Maybe I need to just take the card out and copy content (movies and stuff) directly onto the card that way, but it just doesn't seem quite right.
Ultimately my goal is to get all apps (not system apps obviously) and content to the microSD card.
Thanks so much for your help to this n00b (typically an iPhone user, having a fun time trying to drink from a firehouse trying to live in both worlds)!!
I've been using Link2sd for a number of years. And I find it very helpful for the fire. 1st off you need to repartition the SD card. Set both partitions as primary. 2nd partition I set as a ext2. I have it setup to automatically move new apps to 2nd partition via settings.

Thanks for responding back! I'm working to try to get link2sd working, but am running into an issue.
I've rooted, installed link2sd, rebooted, and when I launch the app I can choose whichever of the 2 I've created (44GB FAT32 and 20GB EXT2), in either case, after I choose that I'll see a screen that says: "Root Access Warning", "Link2SD could not obtain root access."
In an effort to try to 'start over', I've downloaded the latest firmware, re-installed, went through the basics, did root ONLY (no OTA blocks, nor ad bocks), and just tried re-installing Link2SD, but I'm getting the exact same behavior and unable to move apps.
Got any ideas or thoughts?
Thanks a ton!
Short Version:
I formatted ext2, but had to choose ext4 upon startup of link2sd.
Long Version:
I got it worked out. Stupid. When I formatted the SD card on my computer, I KNOW I told it to go ext2 because every guide I read said use 2 since it'd be better for stock ROMs. When launching link2sd every time I said use ext2 it would tell me it couldn't obtain root. I went and got the link2sd app from google play (I had previously only been using the one from the Amazon App store) and it's pretty obvious the one in the Amazon App store is out dated, or stripped down or something. When I launched the latest link2sd, I would get mount script errors. I then proceeded to just start trying other partitions, and when I chose ext4, BAM, looks like that's the ticket.
Hopefully this might help other poor unsuspecting souls.
Is LINK2SD the only way to do this ?
I'm running the resurrection-remix rom and wondered if there's something built in that I'm missing.

I certainly can't say for sure, but, it definitely appears that this is truly the only app I can find that will actually allow you to move ALL aspects of an app to the SD Card. I've tried several others and all they end up allowing you to do is move the program itself, not the content. Which, for something like Knights Of The Old Republic, sucks 'cause the app's like 40 MB, and the content is 2GB. The kicker is that Link2SD is "free", but it's basically not functional until you purchase the license. I suppose they do this so you can first see if you can get it all to the point JUST BEFORE you can move content, because as I've found, there are several steps. Once you're ready to move, you're good to go, just need the license and you can proceed forward. I'm still in the middle of playing with it, but it appears that there are settings which will auto place EVERYTHING onto the SD card if installing from an online app store. Truly worth the 2 bucks and change to actually open up your SD card.
(on a side note, I totally understand one reason why this *could* be a bad thing to do, and that's only if your microSD card is slow. The internal memory on devices is likely as fast as you can get, but the budget microSD cards are definitely going to be slower. I seriously doubt it'll prevent an app from opening, all it means is that you just need to go into it with your eyes wide open that it might launch apps a little slower... which... for me I could care less 'cause these fires are for my 10, 8, and 5 year olds )
Just found foldermount on the playstore, sounds ideal, I'll report back here.

This app works a treat
I highly recommend paying the small price for the pro version to remove the limitations.

link2sd isn't the only app that's severely out of date on the Amazon appstore. I find that to be very common.
Foldermount works well, but nothing beats the simplicity of link2sd. Most notably, sometimes on bootup Foldermount can take some time to do its thing, whereas link2sd links are usually immediately functional. I don't know what difficulty you had with the free version; I used it successfully for years (and supplemented it with Foldermount for two offline navigation apps whose data storage was particularly bad) before finally paying the $2.35 for the Plus version which basically just adds the ability to move an app's data as well as the app itself.
When you have a ton of apps on a slow SD card (regardless of link2sd vs. Foldermount etc) the whole system can get very slow and even unresponsive, far beyond a tolerable mere need to wait for an app to open. However, if that happens then you know what you need to do...uninstall some apps. I try to keep apps that run all the time on internal. That helps. And yeah, if you're using link2sd/Foldermount/etc then definitely don't cheap out on a slow card.
Using a Samsung Memory 64 GB Evo MicroSDXC UHS-I Grade 1 Class 10 Memory Card at the minute, hopefully good enough. Poor decision not to be able to store apps on an external card as standard tbh.

Howdy people-who-already-have the Mi 9 Lite. I don't want to bore you with the details, so I'll try to keep it short. I bought a Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite for my wife and, in the meantime, managed to bork my OnePlus One. Now, I, too, I'm in the market for a new phone.
From the little I played with her new phone, I love the device, and I'm thinking of picking one up too, as a replacement for my OnePlus One. I have two problems, though:
1. Everything on the screen is too small for my failing eyesight. I enabled the developer settings and tried increasing the DPI, but that ended up screwing how some of her apps look. Is there any other way, apart from the provided one in the "official" settings, to increase the text size? By "official settings" I mean "not the developer options", but the setting for text size somewhere in the Display group of options, that offers three possible steps for the text size. All of them too small for me. And by all of this, I mean only the text size since the DPI option in the developer settings affects everything.
2. Since I am "a more demanding user" (compared to my wife), I am torn between this and the Poco F1. Although the Mi 9 Lite is a newer device, the Poco F1 seems to have a vastly better processor, GPU, as well as lots of love and support over here. I don't really care if the screen is somewhat worse, nor use the camera too much, so I was ready to buy this instead of the Mi 9 lite. Mere minutes before taking the plunge, I saw a video by Linus Tech Tips, where he was talking about how you can install gCam, root it, etc. And he suggested "using the nano version of open Google apps". This started ringing alarm bells: the reason for upgrading my wife's phone was its restricted internal storage. We had reached a point where I was removing system apps to be able to update Gmail and Facebook from the Play Store. Is this also a problem in newer phones like the Poco F1 and the Mi 9 lite? I mean, if you already have to use the nano version of open Google apps in a one-year-old smartphone, then what will we be using one or two years from now, when android itself will have grown a lot bigger?
I am sorry if those questions have already been answered, I did a quick search but I didn't run into anything relevant.
You can find display size option in settings/additional settings/accessibility

The problem with space for app updates is in devices with 8gb of flash. The cheapest mi 9 lite has it 8 times more. Do you believe , it will be not enough during next 10 years? Remember about card slot. You can keep all pictures and recordings on external memory.

I believe what's relevant to the OP is the system partition and not the user storage. When using stock GApps, you need to have a large enough partition for the apps installed on that partition to update correctly. Before the Mi 9 Lite I owned a OnePlus X which had 16gb of total storage. I had no problems installing stock GApps over LOS 15, but after around a year of updates I started to get the "low storage" error even though I had more than 6 gb available (which was fixed with a reboot after every system app update, presumably due to the cache being cleared). I doubt that the Mi 9 Lite would have the same problem any time soon though, as the system partition is probably much larger than that of the OPX.
I used galaxy tab 4 with 8GB of flash with 1.7GB of free flash and 80GB of applications installed on second partition. There was not problem to have hundreds applications installed in device with 8GB flash. The only to do was take care to not let start not needed apps on boot and let them to be in ram. I replaced it with mi pad 4 because of a7 core in galaxy.
If you have 64 or 128 GB build in , you are able to install thousands applications. The only limitation will be card size.

You're conflating the system partition (where the android framework resides, including the system apps such as GApps) and userdata partition (where apps are installed after the fact, like from the Play Store). You could theoretically have, say, a 512gb device with a 1 TB sdcard installed in which you can install all the apps you'd ever want but the system partition will always be limited to just a few GB.
There are ways to increase the storage allocated to the system partition (this is Android after all), but it requires a bit of tinkering.
In short, yes, a device with 8gb of storage is enough to download plenty of apps, but will not be enough to hold Android 10 (~1.5gb for the OS + ~700mb for stock OpenGapps + storage reserved for any updates) if the system partition on that device is 2 gb.

Theoretical yes. I thought about it with galaxy and decrease system partition for make data partition larger. It was not possible because of not existing custom kernel for galaxy. Do we have custom kernel for mi 9 ? If yes, resizing partition will be possible. But I do not think we need it anytime. Custom rom creator is able to modify partitions in flashing time or use other partitions size for own needs. The gapps will never be problem. Much better is to install nano or pico and add needed other google apps from play store to data partition.
