Hi everyone!
Trying to solve the problem for 3 hours alrdy!
Decided to install Darkys ROM,instruction says i have to get Clockwork Mod.
Downloaded Rom Manager. It shows that i've got the latest CWM,i click "Reboot in Clockwork mod",it reboots and starts flashing, than i get "failed to verify whole-file signature" and thats it.I have "Android recovery mod"(3e).
How can i solve this problem?
you need to select update:zip you may need to do this twice if that doesnt work use the attachment here
Tried.Same here.Maybe thats bcuz i have 3e mod?how can i switch to 2e or CWM ?
if update:zip doesnt work you could flash a kernel thru odin. something like speedmod.

Thanks for the help
I used z4 to root so that must be the problem cause i used to use the one from your link
That's just so you can get 2e back on your phone then you can get CWM working. Just be sure to follow the instructions and do not flash the wrong file....... I'm hoping CWM becomes compatible with 3e in the near future as theres no way yet for me to get 2e on my phone to do a lag fix as I am using JK3......
Hello everyone,
sorry if this has been asked before, I searched the forum, but couldn't find anyone with the same problem.
My problem is that my SGS seems to have BOTH 2e and 3e recovery, that means: if I select "Reboot into Recovery" from "ROM Manager", it gets me to the 3e recovery, where I can't really do anything, whereas if I use the 3 button combo, it gets me to the 2e recovery. It's not that big of a problem, but I would still like to solve it, because it's much easier for me to just use ROM Manager to boot into recovery than using the 3 button combo.
How I got there and what I did to try and solve the problem:
I flashed CF-Root with Odin and then flashed the speedmod kernel (latest one, K12Q) with CWM. I also tried flashing the speedmod kernel with Odin afterwards, but that didn't solve the problem either. I suspect this might be a problem in the speedmod kernel, but I don't have access to post in the respective thread, because it's in the Dev area (there's also the possibility that it might be related to ROM Manager, but since it works for everyone else and it also worked for me before, I guess the chances are pretty low).
Some details about my device:
Firmware: PDA: XXJPY, PHONE: XXJPY, CSC: XAJPY
Flashed with CF-Root using Odin and then installed the speedmod kernel K12Q using CWM.
ROM Manager version: ROM Manager Premium v3.0.0.7
Any tips on this would be welcome!
why is it more difficult for you to enter recovery using button combo? i don't think anyone experienced this so called "recovery problem".
I will ask hardcore for you on the dev topic. in the meanwhile try to uninstal rom manager and anything related to it from system (cache, dalvik) and reinstall it again. maybe this would do...
rom manager put an update.zip inside sdcard and on next boot it will be executed.
to simply reboot into recovery shutdown and use 3 button combo or install a theme with extended power menù.
and btw hardcore use recovery 3e as stock one cuz we don't need anymore recovery 2e because of the implementation of cwm inside recovery menù.

Well, like I said, it isn't that big of a problem really, but I would still like to get it fixed. It's easier for me to tap the "Reboot into Recovery" than to hold the 3 button combo. Anyway, I'll search for a "Phone Options" (the one when you long press power button) replacement that also contains the recovery entry, I hope that'll work then.
BTW, if you happen to know how the .apk that does that is named, I'd be very thankful -- I have already seen a ROM that has the recovery option in that menu, I just don't know which of the .apk files I need to extract from it, because I don't want to flash the whole ROM just for that feature.
here's the reply from hardcore:

It's intentional. It's a problem with rom manager's way of rebooting to recovery. Rec 3e is running from the rom, and it's needed for certain things like csc change and factory resets.

Awesome! I didn't know that the speedmod kernel actually included both recoveries, that's a valuable piece of information. Now I just have to figure out a "shortcut" to boot into the 2e recovery.
Thank you very much!

with speedmod you don't need 2e recovery since you can install update or zip files from cwm meù, install from zip from sdcard

Well, sorry. With "2e menu" I actually meant the CWM menu that you are talking about.
Hi! newbie here, i still have no luck on installing cyanogenmod. i am wondering the cyanogenmod category in rom manager premium was empty. only nightly build has. i already rooted my s2, purchased rom manager premium, purchased root explorer on the market and downloaded 3e_recovery_no_sig_check,3e_fix-unzip-ClickInstall,update zip and put it on my sdcard and run on CMW still the whole-file verification failed and signature verification appears. i already searched various procedures on how to downgrade from 3e to 2e recovery to install cyanogenmod.but still cant hardly follow various instructions. please help! thanks
android version: 2.3.4
baseband version: I99100XXKH3

Hi,
basically, i want to install darky's rom onto my sgs, but one of the pre-requirements is for me to have 2e recovery. i am currently running speedmods k12i kernal and have got 3e recovery (which is the problem).
i have found this guide on darkys site:
How to install Recovery 2e manually?
* Download Recovery 2e files from here - Download
* Open Root explorer or ES File Explorer
* Remount system with -rw
* Copy recovery file to /system/bin (replace if asked)
* Copy xbin folder contents to /system/xbin/ (replace if asked)
* Done, you've Recovery 2e on your device now.
but dont fully understand it, especially the 3rd point.
alsoone more thing, i made a backup by booting into recovery and going to backup/restore and backing up from there, it contained these files,
cache.img
data.img
dbdata.img
efs.img
nandroid.md5
system.img
are these the correct files for the backed up version of my rom? and if it is how do i go about reflashing it all?
thanks
oliver
p.s - i never thought id be this needy for information, there is just soething about it i cant wrap my head around without a little bit of guidance.
thanks again....

Firstly Darkyy's rom IS stable. If you had a problem with it then thats just unlucky. if 10,000 people install the rom and only one ruins there phone i would say thats stable. Even kies can crash peoples phones.
Ok now on to the OP.
I went from stock JPY to Darkyy's rom literally in 10 minutes.
Install a kernel such as speedmod or voodoo 5.2 which is compatible with JPx ( presuming thats what your running ) as these have CWM in the kernel via Odin.
Then just get darkyy's rom and put it on your SD card. Boot into CWM recovery and flash the zip from your SD card.
In root explorer, you have a small button on the upper center of the screen. It says Mount R/W

Or you can just go to www.samfirmware.com and flash any old Eclair rom. That would be safest route in my opinion because it will completely remove any trace of you from the phone - meaning that the phone will be as good as new (at least in terms of software).

so it wouldnt have root or anything like that? i would then do what with it? flash cf-root and then just install darkys?
cheers for your helps guys, darkys v 9.0.2 is on and running smooth =D
Just for clarification - the 2e recovery is to allow flashing unsigned .zip files.
ClockworkMod will do exactly the same thing, its a more 'full featured' 2e recovery, if you want to call it that.
Eh, im not too fussed now really, it put my mind at rest knowing I had the 2e recovery...

Hi everyone greetings, i plan to install Spike Speedy Edition v2.1 ROM on my phone and it says to "Make sure have the 2e recovery". Can anyone please explain that to a newbie?
Erma, basically it means. You can install unsigned.zips what are you running¿ 2.1 or 2.2?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Running 2.1 i think eclair stock rom... Basically how do i install 2e recovery?
[ROM] Spike Speedy Edition v2.1 site says "Download clockworkmod recovery"
Do i need 2e recovery in this case? Or can i use superoneclick?
well, if you are running eclaie stock, you should already have 2e recovery. are you rooted? if not, do it. i beleive you can with superoneclick (i think) but yeah. just follow the instructions for flashing with that rom and enjoy =]
out of interest how do i downgrade to 2e from 3e on 2.2? im trying to use run voodo lag fix for samsung galaxy s and when I try to run update.zip from (by pressing vol up, home and power) it says "E:Signature verification failed..Installation aborted", which im told is because I have 3e on my Samsung Galaxy S instead of 2e?
Ill link you to a site when im on a pc in like 30mins. It will have a dowload link to the relavant files and a guide. Or you go to darkyrom and look at the guides in one of the sub forums there.

Hey,
I have the some problem.
Can you explain me how can I remove the "failed to verify whole-file signature" error?
I have JW5 and I´ve used the kernel placed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108 .
I don´t know what to do to access the recovery.
Thank you.
That because you're on 3 recovery(samsung's own) u need 2'recovery there 2 ways to get it.
1.flash cf-root kernel with Odin.then your phone is also rooted.
2.root your phone(eg.oneclickroot).when your phone is rooted, download rom manager from market and follow instructions.
Yay.that the right kernel in your link.but u need to flash it from ODIN.

Please help.
This is because you guys are in 3e Recovery. A new Recovery Mod where it only allow Signed Zip files.
Get back 2e Recovery. There are a lot of ways to do this. Search around the forum.
