I'm trying to install Overcome ROM on Galaxy Tab. I get the same error. When I boor in recovery.. I don't have that option to disable the signature thing.
Please help.
This is because you guys are in 3e Recovery. A new Recovery Mod where it only allow Signed Zip files.
Get back 2e Recovery. There are a lot of ways to do this. Search around the forum.

Okay This is what I found.....
Flashing Recovery via the Rom manager app brings up 3E recovery. using the 3-button method brings up the 2E recovery that is part of my speedmod kernel......
Hope this helps other noobs like me having the same trouble.
I'm getting the same problem... any chance you could post how you solved it?

I just got my Galaxy S and want to update the ROM but dont know the exact process. Various Roms say to apply update.zip first but I keep getting e:signature verification failed so I cant proceed.
I tried update.zip for 'ClockworkMod' and it gave the same error.
Any help appreciated.

You need to flash a kernel with clockwork mod recovery such as :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822756
Flash with Odin and put the kernel in the PDA section. Once flashed you will have clockwork mod recovery. The reason you can't apply roms is because you have Recovery 3e which won't apply unsigned .zips.
When booted into clockwork mod just select apply .zip from sd card and choose the ROM you want to install and then reboot.
Simple really
I sure hope you have checked first if your 3-button combo works. Otherwise you soon will be figuring out how to unbrick your Galaxy....

Yep, forgot to mention this. VITAL thing that you must to first before messing with your Galaxy.
Please check that you can get into download mode before doing anything!
yeah the volume up, home and power works... thats what has been getting me into the boot menu...
Cheers for the answer, Ill try that now
I'm getting this error whenever I boot into Recovery via ROM Manager:
Blue Menu:
E:Failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
When I boot into Recovery via buttons, I get the Green Menu with no errors.
Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks.

Might I just take this time here to encourage the use of CWM Recovery instead of ROM Manager. ROM Manager has given me a good deal of trouble, CWM Recovery never has. Plus, when flashing a new ROM, if you install CWM Recovery with root via update.zip, you don't need to waste time signing into Market and downloading ROM Manager. Just my opinion.

Thanks! Is there a tutorial on how to install CWM Recovery with root via update.zip? I'm finding bits and pieces on the subject, but not all the steps involved. Cheers.

you put the update.zip file on the root of your sdcard, not the external
reboot into recovery and hit REINSTALL PACKAGES
it will reboot and probably put you back in recovery, click on REINSTALL PACKAGES again, and it should kick you straight over to clockworkmod

Hi everyone!
Trying to solve the problem for 3 hours alrdy!
Decided to install Darkys ROM,instruction says i have to get Clockwork Mod.
Downloaded Rom Manager. It shows that i've got the latest CWM,i click "Reboot in Clockwork mod",it reboots and starts flashing, than i get "failed to verify whole-file signature" and thats it.I have "Android recovery mod"(3e).
How can i solve this problem?
you need to select update:zip you may need to do this twice if that doesnt work use the attachment here
Tried.Same here.Maybe thats bcuz i have 3e mod?how can i switch to 2e or CWM ?
if update:zip doesnt work you could flash a kernel thru odin. something like speedmod.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822756
Does this one include CWM or 2e recovery?

Great thanks!
I have been trying to root my phone and seem to be having problems. I have searched and found some people having the same problems but could not find an answer.
I tried using AIO Captivate Toolbox 3.0 and when it reboots in recovery and I click on reinstall packages I get this error..
signature verification failed. Installation aborted
I tried super on click and it says its rooted and there is an superuser icon on my phone but when it asks to test to see if its rooted and asks me to check my phone, nothing happens. I then install rom manager and thats installs fine and I can install Clockwork Recovery but when I get it to boot in recovery it just brings me back to the recovery 3e and I will try to reinstall packages again and it gives me this error..
e:failed to verify whole-file signature
e: signature verification failed
So I dont know what Im doing wrong. I had a Sony xperia x10 and im use to flashing and installing roms on that. This phone is much different lol

I had the same issue and I found this solution. Worked like a charm:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423
Download the 3e_recovery_installer.zip file only and unzip.
Put your unit in Debugging mode and connect to the USB cable on your PC
Run the Install.bat file from DOS prompt and wait.
A temporary root will be performed (Doesn't matter if you're rooted or not, I was already rooted and had no issues)
Once completed, reboot into CWR. You will probably get the standard recovery screen. Select Reinstall Package and let it go. Select Reboot. (If the machine boots to the OS, go back to Rom Manager and reboot to CWR again to test.)
If the E3 Recovery screen comes up again, select Reinstall Package again. (Yes, you have to do it twice!)
As soon as it's done the CWR screen will pop up. From here on out, it should work as normal when selected from the Rom Manager app.
Hope that helps,
Now if someone would just post the Captivate AT&T default Notification sounds for me, I'd be a happy camper! I miss my old sounds!

Im Am Trying To Root My Samsung Galaxy Ace gts5830 And Everytime i try to install the zip file provided by the forum I Keep Getting Error
E:Error In /tmp/sideload/package.zip Installation Aborted .............PLZ Help
What firmware are you running? If its ktq there's a previous step (cuz that firmwares system is full). There's a thread on that.
Other than that, which zip are you trying to flash (maybe link to post)?
How are you trying to flash it?
It Is Android Version 2.3.4......Baseband s5830dtlki4..........kernel 2.6.35.7-perf-cl568978 [email protected] #1.
Build Gingerbread.dtlki4
I Went into Recovery mode And Tried root.zip and update.zip wich i cant remember exact thread but both were of the forum
And Ive Read Lots And Cant figure it out
There's one called AceGingerRoot.zip, same stuff, go ro recovery (stock recovery, not cwm recovery) install zip from sd card. Then just update the superuser app from the market and its binary:
