I'm having weird thing regarding sms since I installed Android on my vogue. I was on wm6.1 for a long time and decided to install Android. I tried 3 differents port of Android, I finally ended up with Fresh froyo on a kernel 2.6.25. But on all android version I tried I had the same problem. Some sms came in with what it's look like to me chinese characters. I can receive a readable sms from someone and the next sms he's sending it's in chinese. So my question is there any known problem or issues with sms on android ? I did some search here and I didn't find anything like this. Should I go with another sms application ?
Thanks
The solution is to write SMS without accents at least it was solved for me that way.
Yeah i thought it could be something like that... except I don't have any control on incoming sms
I have to send SMS in Russian beneficiary receives the trash.
Is either a solution?
PS: I assume that the case in the coding but the original client settings is not found. Handtsent does not help, Problem remains.
Sorry for the English, I use google translator
In my case only happened when sending messages with accents but the received SMS well so the problem can be language used in your country.
The boy in russia no idea what caused your problem because not I understood he meant.

Let me explain. I have installed HTC VOGUE Fresh Froyo from 23.01.2011 at Nand. In the system settings chosen language is Russian. Sms recruited normally in Russian. But my sms people get in unreadable encoding. I have an idea that problemma encoded message to be sent, but the settings do not have the choice of encoding.

Here is a sample russian text that I'm posting: Тест
And this is what will get: C(DN^(C N^$
Maybe worth a try:
On http://sourceforge.net/projects/androidhtc/files/2011-1-23-froyo/ theres three different language builds.

Hey Everyone,
I am looking to send a single sms to specific multiple contacts. I understand that the sms feature in WM6 allows you to autocomplete a contact by typing theyre name as you go, I am looking for however a CAB file or something that will allow me to do something like tick the people i want to send to?
I hope they're is something like this out for WM6, otherwise its a long time sending about 200 mobiles a new number ha ha.
I'm not a often poster, but long time viewer, and i know you all know your stuff and i'm thankful for anything you can tell me!

Don't know if you'd only be satisfied with ticking multiple names, but the auto-complete thing does allow you to type in more than one name. I assume you realized that? Alternatively you can just continually click on "add recipient" and select them all one-by-one, though that's a pain in the ass. I've found the autocomplete for multiple recipients to be pretty fast. Do you not find that to be the case?
I was chatting to a few people on palringo's MoDaCo group and one user suggested Jeyo Mobile Companion 2.0 Demo. It does exactly what i wanted to do on the phone but on windows XP!
I only really needed it as a one off but i would recommend it as a solutions especially if your going to use it reguarly
Thanks for your comments and suggestions though, your all good people!

you can try this software SMS Assistant from QimSoft
http://www.qimsoft.com/
After install, it will add one Menu item "Add Recipients" at the bottom of Menu
Click it then it allow you to multi select contact
yeah I use group sms as well you can find it in the development thread. didn't realize it was included in the 6.1 rom as well.

I would assume, that you could install a different version of arcsoft mms, in order to fix it... bc it should just override the missing arcsoft files or whatever.
I also use mms on a daily basis. I flashed last nite and didn't noticed the mms prob until this morning... so when I get home tonite, I'll see if I can come up with something. But you should be able to search and find an arcsoft cab somewhere... if you do, try installing it. Obviously, we'd all like to find the newest version..
I found a post over in the kaiser forum about trying to extract version 5.xx of the arcsoft mms.. so hopefully that will solve our problems if someone is able to make that available.
thanks kamal, for sharing that...ill try to keep my acronym usage down for your sake...didnt mean to offend you or anyone else with "lol" im truely sorry i hope me and you can be bff someday and we will rofl about this..lmao lolol )
ohh and duprade, i tryed downloading arcsoft...but i had no success. maybe u kno if you have to copy some of the arcsoft files to directory or something bc my attempt to download it didnt solve the problem...
thanx in advance

sms typing area = threadded sms = chat window like
calendar is called calendar.exe not HTCcalendar.exe. you have to cahnge the reghack for using softkeychange.
ok i found the registry hack for the calendar , sry for wasting space...but has neone had the chat window get cutt off ???
no money for duprade yet..MMS still doesnt work...when i go to send a mms it just hangs there and doesnt send.....what can be done?

If you click the keyboard icon on the screen, this makes the reply window the correct size so you can see what you are typing. You can think resume normal typing once the window has enlarged...I am also missing my mms!
well, here's a cab that will setup your settings correctly for MMS ... but its still not working on my end... and im too tired to keep messing with it... but Im working with some other people on this .. so hopefully we'll get it solved soon.

I like the Itje's most recent rom release (6.1 black version), but reverted bacl to his previous rom release (ItsBlack) due to the stability, particularily the MMS issue. Would you or anyone else know the advantages or differences from this MMS cab's version over the HTC ArcSoft MMS 4.2.8.1?
the biggest advantage would be that arcsoft doesnt work! atleast not on 6.1black...i been trying to find some sort of solution...its really frustrating...but 6.1 black seems very stable to besides the mms issue....
has ne1 came close to finding the answer to our mms problem?
I love Black 6.1, and im dealing with the missing MMS (tho the dirty pics from chicks is sorely missed). Im just gonna wait since David and his "team" are working on it. They came thru with the keyboard fix....i have faith.
Quick side question (sorry to thread hijack as im in need of the MMS fix), how do you change the colors of the home icons?
What exactly is the issue with the MMS? It works on my ROM, maybe someone can compare the two's files and find out what's missing...

You know the lady voice that announces when the battery is almost dead, when you get a text message and reads it to you and all the other stuff...is there any way to change that text to speech voice to a different female voice? I know there are several other voices that are available but not sure how it would be changed on wm 6.1
First off, what app is doing that for you?
huh???!!

Are you sure your using a diamond for that? I have used a diamond for months now and have not discovered that feature!! please provide further details as to what device you have and which country bought in etc.
interesting....
I think I know what he's talking about, which is he has MS Voice Command installed.
As far as I know, it isn't possible to change the voices on MSVC but if anyone can prove me wrong please do, as I'd love a different set of voices as well

He's talking about Voice Commander. When you receive an email / sms you can run it and say 'Read SMS' or 'Read Email' and it will read any unread emails /sms
Very handy, esp. when driving
I would also love to know how to change the voice though

Come on now, of course I know what freakin' phone I'm using. That's like asking someone if they know what kind of car they drive and if they are sure about it.
Here's what you do to enable it:
Settings>Voice Command>
Check 'Enabled'
Check 'Messaging', 'Status' & 'Phone' boxes
The go to 'Notifications' and check 'Announce notifications through device speaker or wired headset only'
[/LIST]
Those directions above will read out loud the person calling you when you get a call, the person who sent you a SMS and what the SMS says, will read to you any email including the sender and subject line, but not the email and will also notify you when your battery is gonna die.
Trust me, it's a major attention-getter when your phone reads a text message to you when it comes in and people around you are like wtf was that. Plus it's great if you are lying in bed or something and your phone is across the room...you can hear what the message says and whether or not it's worth getting out of bed for. :-D
But anyway, if anyone knows how to change the voice please respond. Thanks!
Voice Command isn't installed on all Diamonds as standard and as I stated, there is no way to change the voices, I have searched for this myself before with no luck.
cool!

Man i'm learning new sh!t about my phone everyday. Cheers guys i know i have not answered your question but you have helped me finding something new
nice one!
pretty sure you cant change the voice but i know there's a registry tweak to slow the voice down witch makes it easier to understand. I've just remembered I'm sure there's the tweak in Advance config hope this helps
yeah i have this enabled on my phone and its the best when your laying in bed and wonder if its worth looking at. I do wish it was a more sexier voice like sigourney weaver from planet earth, and a little slower would be nice. IT came stock on my sprint diamond fyi, im surprised other versions dont have it
I have a sprint diamond and mines only talks when someone sends me a text message marked urgent and thats it. I have all the tabs checked on VC in the settings menu. am I missing somthing?

You don't have it setup correctly, that's why.
Go into Voice Command and do this:
- Check all the boxes you want to use this service. (Phone, Messaging, Status, Etc.)
- Highlight 'Messaging' then click on 'Options' button then UNCHECK 'High Priority Messages Only' and CHECK 'Announce New Messages'. Do the same steps for others like 'Phone' and 'Status' to change it's options. Make sure you highlight it first.

Hi all,
I have the HTC Pure. I got a few text messages at once and my phone slowed waaay down. I deleted the 3 messages that I had, however all but one of them were marked as read.
I called AT&T who in turn called HTC and said that this is a known issue but they have no fix in place and not planned.
So now, my phone always says I have one new text message, and I went and "cleaned" all of my messages; sent, draft, inbox, and deleted.
Does anyone know of a fix or a registry key that I can edit so that I don't have to do a hard reset?
Thanks!
I think it is just a problem from your current ROM .
Like such question , I will suggest you to flash a new ROM or install a new SMS APP.
it is easy to fix the problem after you change ROM
I've been having the same problem, and we are not alone...see thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=584623
I know I can cure the problem by re-flasing the ROM, but I was hoping for a less painful solution......plus there is no guarantee the problem won't happen again.
I have had this with emails before. Here is a program which fixed that. I'm not sure if it will work with SMS, but you can try....
Looks like a DB corrupt... The count is in the registry but also in the DB...
If you have a DB browser you can try to find the entry and change it....
Or you may also delete the DB, Windows will recreate a new one for you...

Nope, that's not the solution. And what kind of new SMS APP do you suggest?
Instead, try to hard reset the phone (Settings > System > Clear Storage), but back up the data (phone numbers etc) wih PIM Backup or alike into a microSD storage card.

Thanks for the suggestion. May I ask wha the "DB" is? I am somewhat familiar with the registry and I use Total Commander to edit it if need be.
I think it is in the registry as well; one value I would think. If not, do you think reinstalling the MMS software would work?
there use to be a hot fix for this on htc.com but it was for 6.1
not sure if they still have it up
well i had that problem in the past, it seems i had deleted an unread sms in the "deleted items" folder. After i deleted that one...i didn't have an unread notification...
other than that, i can't think of any solution
Had the same thing. As was suggested do a backup of all your personal data and then hard reset. No ROMS to play with no software to install (except any you already have) clean easy and cheap.

I know this is a problem with WM 6.5 and not Manilla/TouchFlo 3D. I was thinking that maybe if I can find the cab that runs when you do a hard reset if that will reset it and just install the standard stuff on top of what is there already.
On WM 5 it was easy to find that CAB file in the Windows folder but on 6.5 I can't seem to find it...

then i have wrote a mail to my mobile phone mail account ; recive it then read it and tadaaa the unread notification on sms have disaper

Hi, I had this problem once before (last year) and ended up having to do a hard reset.
Got problem again the other day and really wanted to avoid another HR so did some digging. This utility worked a treat.
Ran it, counter still said 1 unread message; turned off and re-started, counter unchanged; happened to receive a call almost immediately so let it go to voicemail, checked voicemail and when I'd finished the notification had gone!
From what the previous post mentioned about sending self an e-mail, I guess it had something to do with the notification system receiving a prompt?
Anyway, sorted and v.happy!
Hi guys,
I posted this on the CyanogenMod forums, but no one replied, so I guess I will try there
Just installed CM7.1 a few weeks ago. I barely use SMS messages, however, yesterday I needed to send a couple but the recipients are getting a lot of garbage when they receive my message. It only happens if the text contains an accented word. If I write in plain english, the sms is received just fine.
Attached you will find two screenshots of this problem. One in a HTC Wildfire S, and another in a BlackBerry Pearl.
This never happened on the stock Samsung ROM (XXJVT), so I guess its a CM7-stable bug.
Has anyone experienced anything like this?

I tried flashing a new radio, and also checking the "split text messages" option but it didn't work.
Which 'accented word', exactly? Maybe the other phones don't support the characters you are trying to send them? Other than that, I can't reproduce this myself, so I'm not entirely sure.

Try with:
- número
- canción
- áéíóú
The fact is, this didn't happen on stock XXJVT, it happens only on CyanogenMod 7 stable. Those are my close friends mobiles, and I have texted them before on stock with no issue at all.
I don't think its a recipient problem. Those accented letters are pretty common in spanish.
