[Q] My Nook won't stay powered down? Thoughts and suggestions appreciated! - Nook Color General

My Nook doesn't like to stay off... whether plugged in to USB with data, just the wall charger or on battery power, it just likes turning itself back on. Sometimes within just a few minutes, other times it takes several hours.
I'm rooted on the 1.1.0(r2) from the development thread, and this is the single only issue that I have with my device, although it seems to have been happening since day 1 on an unrooted stock 1.0.0, I just thought I was being forgetful and ignored it initially. Other than that I'm really pleased. Has anyone else had this problem or one like it? Not really sure how to troubleshoot it either.
I may be missing something but don't get the feeling that it's a problem with the physical hardware button as I never have any problems with it while the unit is on. The screen never sleeps unexpectedly, nor does it pull up the power menu as though held, either or both of which I might expect if the hardware button was somehow malfunctioning.
Your thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance to any and all suggestions!

I have the same issue. What is going on? I tried disabling a few services and still no luck.

Power Button- slow?

i noticed recently that if i press the power button, it sometimes takes a really long time to turn the screen on. i know the hardware works because the backlight in the soft buttons turns on immediately, but the screen remains black for up to 10 seconds. this happens rarely. however, im fairly sure it isnt a software problem because ive wiped completely and installed a fresh rom and the problem seems to persist. perhaps i just recently noticed, and the problem was always there? does anyone else have this problem?

could be a hardware issue.
Mine does this every few days.. I am still on the stock 2.1 rom.
Mine also does this, I only noticed it after flashing Cyanogenmod 5.0.6. so I thought it might have been a bug. I also assumed it was a bug because the phone seems to act strangely when you are touching the screen and try to hit the power button.
Hopefully this isn't a hardware issue, I've had the phone since release.
Is anyone else experiencing similar issues?
It happens to me as well, but very infrequently. Maybe every few days... so it doesn't bother me enough to worry about it.
I'm on stock ROM btw.
I am leaning towards thinking this may be software related. A few minutes ago I was at the lock screen and tried about 50 times (yes I waited long enough after each press) and simply could not get the screen to turn off. I then tried long pressing the power button and, sure enough, each time it would bring up the shutdown menu (yes, over the lock screen). Must be a bug right?
Hmm, my problem's slightly different. Around half of the time, I have to press the power button twice to turn the screen on. Sometimes, pressing it the first time doesn't turn the screen on, had to press the power button firmly again.
This started only recently. On stock n1 and bought it during feb.
that means that your power button is dying, like many others' (including mine)
this is the first time, it takes 2 clicks to work....than it will increase.
Expect a repair soon...
Well i am having the issue other way around. i am not been able to put my phone in stand by mode by clicking on it and it is do a hard press then i get options to shut off the phone
any suggestions what might be causing it ?
I'm happy I haven't received this problem yet

I am having the same issue and i wonder if you were able to find the cause for it. I have the same rom as you do on your phone

I have a similar problem. When I unplug the N1 from the charger, the screen comes on showing the lock screen, and I can't get it to turn off. If I unlock the phone, however, then the power button works normally. I don't think it was doing this until recently (I bought it in January the first day it was offered and am running the stock update1 ROM).
So here is my theory if the power button is a problem then it needs to act up both ways and not only one way. right now i can put the phone in sleep mode but i can wake it up. i will post the issues on the development forum and might be able to find an asnswer to it
So seems like the issues is because of Cyanogenmod 5.0.6 because since i have flashed another rom it is working just fine. i will be doing some more testing before i can be certain
Another problem I am experiencing is when I long press the power button, it pulls up the phone options menu but also turns off the screen. It's extremely frustrating as it does this quite frequently; right after I power on the screen again and unlock the device it works properly every time - so much so that I am convinced this is a software issue.
I am now running froyo, rooted with Cyan's minor root patch. I can also say for sure I experienced the same problem on CM 5.0.6, but it definitely occurred less frequently.
Am I alone here?

I just started having this problem after upgrading to 2.2.
I have this every so often. But sometimes wonder if it is flyscreen doing it
You guys should all just be running the app no lock to take the power autumn out of the equation.
Ahhhhh! I just need trackball wakeup!
I have a similar issue where my screen will turn on but will be unresponsive. When i turn it on and off, the backlight jut comes and goes. If it times out it won't turn back on for a bit(the backlight will come on still).
I just wiped my phone, hoping that'll fix it since it only started happening on a regular basis since I updated to Froyo

[Q] Broken Power Switch

Greetings.
Today the power switch from my Note stopped working.
I found a website that will replace it for an original Samsung one, but I would like to ask if anyone has a better alternative here on the US.
This is the one I got:
http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-note-power-button-repair/
Also, it is weird that now that the power button doesn't work at all, I have to take out the battery to "turn off" the phone. But when I put the battery back on, the phone turns itself on. Is that normal behavior?
Thank you in advance.
if the phone is working as usual, then instead of removing the battery to switch the phone off, use any widget from the playstore to power off the phone. this way it will power off fine. may be its because the power button is messed up.
After 14 days of having the power switch in a nonworking state, today I woke up, and lo and behold, the damn switch started the work again.
Now I can turn off the phone normally, everything is normal now.
I didn't do anything special, nothing at all.
Before, I couldn't turn off the phone even with apps like QuickOff, thats allows the phone to reboot, turn off and etc, so I had to take the battery out every time.
I have no explanation.
You got lucky there

So, I think it is just because the power button gets sticky. I was having a similar problem, except that it was working intermittently; sometimes it would turn the phone off, sometimes it would bring up the shutdown screen; and sometimes it would work like it was supposed to. Probably yours started working when whatever was making it stick got dislodged. What I did was just press the button REAALLLY hard for a while while the battery was out. It's been about 24 hours and I haven't had any problems yet, fingers crossed. Another guy in a different thread just wiggled it around. Probably if you take the whole board off you could remove the power button and reinstall it or something, though it seems no one has had to go that far yet. Anyway, if anyone else runs into this problem, just mess around with the button until it starts working again. Though, as always, if you break it, its not my fault.

Nexus 6 Screen Won't Turn On, Rest of Phone still on

Figured I see if anyone else has had this issue. I went for a walk with the dog yesterday, and was listening to music on my Nexus 6 the whole time, and when I got home I couldn't get the screen to turn on. Music was still playing, it was still connected to my G watch, and holding the power button triggered a vibrate when the power menu opens--but the screen was completely black and unlit the whole time.
Had no prior issues, just wondering if anyone else has had this issue. Figuring I'll probably call Motorola as this seems like a hardware issue...
Any suggestions would be well received!
Try holding the power and volume down buttons together and see if the screen will come on when it reboots to the boot loader. Alteratively you could try to power cycle it by holding the power button down for 30 seconds. Hopefully Motorola will also be able to help you.
me too
same exact thing happed to me music pulled out headphones the phone still works but the screen is dead. I can pull to use phone and **** and have the same vibration. holding power for 20 seconds is a no go. tried tons of holding combinations it seems like I can get it to shut off and on may be but it's just not doing a reset that I can tell that reboots the screen.

you had an sod(sleep of death). it sounds much worse than it actually is. its a rather common issue as well(no fix). try using a custom kernel.
ok crap

Ambient display fault?
Hey, I had the same issue, i switched off the ambient display and after that the problem is solved. Give it a try, it might help. Go to Settings, Display, and turn off the ambient display .

[Q] Screen fails to turn on occasionally, but Touchpad still working

Ok, this one is driving me a bit nuts trying to diagnose. My Touchpad has started to not turn on the screen occasionally. If I press power or home, the LED in the home button will light but the screen won't come on. If I wait and try again, perhaps in a minute or 10, it will sometimes turn back on. If it does turn back on, everything is still obviously running, and I am receiving notification sound or vibrations when appropriate. If I do a forced reset (Power/VolDown/Home) it'll reboot and the screen comes on. I'm not sure if this is a software issue or hardware, but I hadn't loaded a new ROM in quite some time (I'm running JCSullins 4.4.4). I had been running one from last year and as part of trying to diagnose this updated to his latest 1/13/15 version http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2712680 but unfortunately that didn't seem to fix it.
Is it possible the backlight is failing? If so, is there a guide on how to repair it? The unit still does most of what I use a tablet for albeit a bit slow (and battery life is starting to suck). For everything else I use my phone.

Try completely deleting everything and go to lollipop and try that out.

Display unresponsive while charging *solved, please delete*

*Hey guys!
So I'm switching over to using a GT-I9000 for a few weeks, while my 1+3T arrives. To ease my pain, I formatted this phone (after God knows how long it's not been used), and tried flashing a few ROMs.
While doing so, I noticed something really strange: When I plug the phone in to charge (or to my PC for that matter), the screen thinks I'm constantly holding one of my fingers on the screen, thus making it unresponsive to touch while plugged in. As soon as I disconnect the phone, the screen starts working fine again.
Any ideas how to solve this problem?*
Okay, nevermind, found out the cause, please delete the thread.
