reboot loop after dropping phone - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi, last night i was in the midst of selecting a song in winamp and i fumbled my phone. it fell about 3-4 feet to the hard floor, popped open, battery flew out. when i put it all back together the phone would no longer boot.
it shows me the galaxy s i9000 screen and then it turns off, turns back on, etc etc forever and ever.
i can access download mode but not recovery mode
prior to the dropping i was using darky's canadian froyo version for over a month without any trouble. i have tried to reflash using odin but the issue persists. this is my second galaxy from bell and last time it took over a month for my new handset to arrive so i would like to fix this myself. does anybody have advice about this problem? thank you

CM 5.0.8: Froze on shutdown, now won't boot

Hey everyone,
I've been lurking here since I first got my G1 about a year ago, and so far have been able to find all the answers I've needed by the methods you all prefer (searching, scanning through threads, etc). This time, however, I think I should probably just ask directly.
I spent most of the last week on a vacation in Mexico. APNs were shut off by Quick Settings, and although the phone was on for most of the week I scarcely used it. Yesterday, I shut it off (or so I thought) as we were standing in line to board the plane, slipped it in my pocket, and forgot about it.
When we touched down, I pulled it back out to find that it had frozen on the "Powering off" screen. I forced it to reboot (End-Menu-Call) and got it to a power source as quickly as I could since sitting in my pocket with the display on for the duration of a 2 hour flight had pretty well killed the battery, but since then I haven't been able to get it to boot past the G1 logo.
It will boot into my bootloader (Amon-Ra 1.7.0), but nothing I do there seems to help, including re-flashing the CM 5.0.8 zip. I've avoided wiping to this point, just in case what's there can be salvaged (though at this point I'm not so hopeful).
Does anyone have any idea what may have happened or what a solution might look like?
Thanks,
Ryan

[Q] Logo keeps flashing on and off, won't boot.

Hi There:
I have the Bell Samsung Galaxy S i9000M. I upgraded to the bell 2.2 before they recalled the upgrade and last night my Galaxy finally crapped out on me. I was listening to music and then it shut off; rebooted it once, would not recognize any media files, so I rebooted again and it wouldn't get past the:
Galaxy S
GT-i9000M
Samsung
white text logo screen. It just keeps blinking.
It will not go into recovery mode; however, I can get it into download mode.
I flashed it with the stock JL2 with Odin, however, it did not do anything.
Am I out of options? What do I do? I can't afford to wait a month to get it fixed or so without this phone and they charge a deposit of 250 for a replacement smart phone.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

[Q] stuck power button? boot screen loop

Hi,
I am running a custom ROM (Darky's 9.5) on a rooted Galaxy S with Voodoo Fix. All has been fine for the past week since I changed to this ROM.
However, today, suddenly the phone switched off and then immediately turns on by itself and as soon as the Galaxy S screen appears it restarts again and the loop continues.
I removed the battery, but as SOON as I put the battery back in, it turns on by itself and resumes the on off sequence.
So its IMPOSSSIBLE to get into recovery mode, it doesnt work even though I have it enabled. I can get into Download mode but it lasts 5 seconds as the phone switches off and back on.
I can connect via USB to computer in download mode, but like I said it lasts 5seconds.
Is my power button jammed or is there something sinister going on? lol
Doubt I have warranty as I bought it off eBay many months ago...
Thanks for any advice!
Here we go again yet another Darky broke my phone post .
You have no warranty full stop as you flashed a custom rom ..
Usual fix for dead Deadlys rom is flash stock Froyo 2.2 rom via Odin with pit 512 and repartition checked .
However as you cannot get to download mode i would try first factory reset .
Second three button download recovery jig from .

You could always ask Darky .

Thanks for your response.
Don't know why the ROM would behave like this a week after being ok, perhaps an app has caused the issue to surface.
I cannot do a factory reset, the phone is in a continuous loop off switching on then restarting within 5 seconds. It doesnt get past the initial Galaxy S boot screen.
I shall get my hands on a JIG in a couple of days. Not sure how that will stop the loop but worth a shot I suppose. If that dont work, this phones dead isn't it?
UPDATE: SOLVED.
It resolved all by itself. Basically, I got fed up and I left it to loop back and forth from the boot screen....and after a few minutes I returned to the phone screen to find it had booted up fully to the normal desktop.
Very strange. I might just have a dodgy phone.

[Q] Random semi-brick

I woke up this morning and my phone would not boot. it would get past the Orange boot screen, as i am locked to Orange, and then i t would get to the sgs boot screen and stay there for about 5 minutes, then finally turning itself off along with a few random vibrations. I kept trying to turn it on, i tried numerous ways such as taking the external sd and sim card out, taking the battery out for 2 hours but the same thing kept happening. My phone was not rooted and has never been hacked in anyway, i have had this phone not long. It was working fine the night before. I fixed this by going into recovery mode, as i could get into both recovery and download mode fine, and i restored to factory settings from that. Now it works fine. Anyone know what was up with it and how i can fix it without restoring if it happens again. I didn't look it up when it was happening as i didnt have access to the computer,
Thanks
What you describe sound like a bootloop, which could be caused by many things, if it recurs my suggestion is to take it back to orange and insist on replacement/fix. I was with orange but hacked my way out of their crap software ages ago!

[Q] Capy tat thinks it's christ

Sorry for the bad title
Hi everyone, yes I'm a nood and yes I've read all the posts (I think) or at least I have not come accross my problem, sorry if this is long but I'll try and make it understandable.
I have a captivate 10.11 locked to rogers, Loved the phone, One day being past 40 and not being able to remember my name sometimes, I told my Brother don't let me get in the pool with my phone on, go in the house come outside and sit for a minute then get in the pool ...arrrg! I noticed right away and took the phone off removed the battery, dried the phone best I could. threw it in a bag of rice and left it in the sun for about 2 days. I put the battery back in and yeah!! the phone worked ..... for 1 day no problems. I get up the next morning and I turn it on but I can't slide to unlock??? So I remove the battery, when I put the battery back in, it doesn't go past the I896 Samsung screen no matter how long I leave it?
(This is where the title comes in) I start to read the forums here and figured well I have nothing to loose, I can get my phone to go into download no problem, so I load the odin one click on it "I897UCJF6-final-OCD-REV0" now I'm stuck at the AT&T screen, so I play with all button combinations I have read about, but nothing I do will get me into the recovery menu ?? Low and behold after 3 days of playing I get life, the 3rd day I figured "well I may as well turf this" I turn it on and after a minute I get the little android guy with some yellow text and then it goes back to AT&T then loads the home screen??? I'm thinking woo hoo I get the home screen I'm able to put my sim back in and SD and I'm able to make the phone work. So I'm thinking I'd like to have the Apps that come with Rogers so I think, well I'll load the rogers stock rom. Now I'm stuck again at the I896 screen.
Sorry for being long in the explanation, But I've gotten the odin 1 click to work 2 times and the second time I rooted the phone and loaded the rogers rom through rom manager, I got all working perfect but after 2 days it froze again at the slide to unlock screen??? Remove the battery and again I'm at the boot I896.
Can someone tell me if
1. water damage could have this affect? (the slide to unlock freezes or screen not responding to touch after a couple days) ?
2. can a rom take 3 days before it loads? the odin 1 click always seems to come to life after 3 days of playing with it the rogers rom doesn't? When it's stuck at the boot I896 or AT&T the soft keys seem to work (meaning I run my finger over them and they dim) ??
I'm sorry if I missed a similar post but I've been reading for weeks now ? Any help at all would be appreciated.
Sounds like a classic case of water damage. probably internal moisture
check your stickers on your phone if they are white you can get a replacement no problem, if pink it going to be harder try this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1073929
Ps. your title has nothing to do with the problem at all, it look like a joke. Next use a more appropriate title
As I bought it second hand I won't be able to return it. I'm just wondering if there is not a way to save it, because I can get into download mode everytime I try and it succeeds everytime it flashes ?
Well day 3 after loading the odin 1 click and I am back, I rooted and change the rom using rom manager, all seems to be working fine (I hope ) I will keep you posted if it locks up again ???
All is good after 4 days so I'm hopeing 3 times, a charm thanks to this forum I've saved my Cappy
