Many of us tried to replace "downanimation.zip" which reside in (/system/customize/resource/) but ended with blank screen no matter how u pack the zip.
After countless try & error, here is the solution. The structure & format is remain the same as "bootanimation.zip" which will works if packed without compression (store compression level).
The only different is the way we zip as shown below.
# Running Linux :
* The correct zip command (im using latest Ubuntu on VirtualBox) is zip -0rD downanimation.zip <image folder> + desc.txt

# Running Windows :
* Windows using WinRAR :
1-Create zip like this
2- recreate the zip file but this time ignore file parameters in 2nd scrnshot.
3- open using winrar & delete all image files outside folder.
Thanks.
My modded one. This is not flashable zip. Must use ADB/QtADB to copy to device manually.

Sweet! Thanks a lot, will use it.

As a total noob, I'd be incredibly grateful if someone could post a step-by-step for me. Would make my phone finally completely customized.

For information, the file copied by Root Explorer has the default
owner: system
group: sdcard_rw
so not root owner. Need to go to terminal and use chown command!

Hi! This is the first bootanimation i made.
i got a sequence of png files but i have difficulties in compiling them into a working zip file.
i would really appreciate that if someone could help me to make a working zip file. Those png files are in the attachment.
Lastly, if you have any idea about this animation, please leave me a comment.
Hi I've tried to make the zip file for you (and signed too) but...:
1. images must be 320x480 (at least for who has this resolution, like me with my g1)
2. must have 24bit and not 32 like yours..
I've resized them but I cant do that.. try to post them at 24 bit and I'll be happy to make the zip
..if you want to make it by yourself..
you have to make 2 directory, data and into data, local.
data/local
now make another 2 directory called part0 and part1.
place all the images into this 2 directory.
copy -> 320 480 15
p 1 0 part0
p 0 0 part1
in a text file called desc.txt
put part0, part1 and desc.txt into bootanimation.zip
so: data/local/bootanimation.zip
now you should sign!! .... or:
adb remount
adb push bootanimation.zip data/local
try with adb method, its long to explain how to sign, if you want pm me
Here u go have fun
Link
I use this program call fast-stone photo resizer, its a miracle tool
For the animated gif creation i used unfreez

cool sound to go with and awesome bootanimation
okay so i really like your bootanimation but i wanted a sound to go with it so i found one off of Zedge, converted it to .ogg.
Just use root explorer and go to system/media/audio/ui and rename the bootStrapSound.ogg to bootStrapSound.ogg.old then copy and paste this file in the ui directory. reboot
It's great to see that the Wildfire is getting some awesome custom ROMS built for it but there doesn't seem to be any custom bootanimators being made. I've made one but it's pretty shoddy so I was wondering if anyone else had come up with anything? If you've made one or know of any good custom ones post them below and maybe we can make this an official Wildfire custom bootanimator thread
This is my effort, it would be great if others could add theirs as well I'll put them in this first post for easy access.

well i thought you meant bootloader..Hboot .. but here you meant bootanimation.
On the subject of this, I still haven't managed to get my bootanimation file into my phone. I've tried the following:
Code:
adb remount
adb mv
adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media/bootanimation.zip
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local/bootanimation.zip
adb reboot
It shows that the files have been transferred but when rebooting it still has the old animation. Any ideas anyone?
made an flashable zipfile with standard bootanimation in it.
just open the file (dont extract) and drag and drop that bootanimation.zip you wanna use insted into /system/customize/resource so the current bootanimation.zip get replaced with your custom bootanimation.zip.

Hi all, this is a copy of my thread for galaxy s2
This guide is split into two parts as of now , part 1 is for changing the settings menu background and part 2 is for changing the backgground for dialer and contacts.
Part -1
may be this method is known to few but im posting this to people who dont know how to change the background image of the settings menu and other few.

Like it?
here is the method to do this.
Software needed :
1.7zip (to replace the image)
2.android sdk(to use adb commands to push/pull the files)
How it works:
We are modifying/replacing an image called "background_holo_dark.png" in the "framework-res.apk" which is responsible for displaying background images in menu.
Step 1:
Use the following adb command below to pull the "framework-res.apk" from your mobile to pc.
Code:
adb pull system/framework/framework-res.apk
Step 2:
Open the framework-res.apk via 7zip and navigate to the following directory
"framework-res.apk\res\drawable-nodpi\", you will see a file called "background_holo_dark.png". Delete the image and dont close the 7zip.
Preparing your own image:
Now use any png image you want to set as background , resize it to 512 x 512 via mspaint or any other image editing software and rename the file to "background_holo_dark.png".
Drag the newly created image file back to 7zip(to the same directory where the old file is deleted) and close the 7 zip .
Step 3:
Now its time to push the file back to mobile, type the following command in the same command prompt
Code:
adb remount
now type the following
Code:
adb push framework-res.apk system/framework
Step 4:
Now reboot your mobile, you will have the new background image enabled
Part-2
Wanna change the background of the dialer and contacts?? well read below,
Step 1:
Use the adb command (or u can use root explorer) to pull the "Contacts.apk" from your mobile to pc.
Step 2:
Open the Contacts.apk via 7zip and navigate to the following directory
"Contacts.apk\res\drawable-nodpi\", you will see a file called "background_dial_holo_dark.png". Delete the image and dont close the 7zip.
Drag the image (similar to the one created in part 1 of the guide) file back to 7zip(to the same directory where the old file is deleted) and close the 7 zip .
Step 3:
Now its time to push/copy back the file back to mobile. Copy back the file to the same directory from where it is copied.
Step 4:
Now reboot your mobile, you will have the new background image enabled
Your dialer and contacts shortcut may be missing from your launcher, just drag it back to the homescreen from the app drawer.
Step:5
This step is optional!!! If you do not get those shortcuts, enter cwm and wipe cache and dalvik cache.
Sample screenshots.
Note:
For users who know how to use root explorer can use the same to copy/paste the framework-res.apk before and after editing.
Sample images are taken with 160 dpi, this mod will work with all dpi.
Instructions:
1. Download the zip from the download section below and open it in 7zip.
2. Navigate to the following directory "\mode\system\framework\framework-res.apk\res\drawable-nodpi\".(Sample images on post 2)
3. Change the images "background_holo_dark.png" and "background_holo_dark.png" as per your wish.
4. Flash it

This sounds like an Awesome guide but I do have one question, will this work on CM7 as cm9 is not out yet for my T-989 SG2? I have looked for the background_holo_dark.png and I'm not seeing it in the frameworks. I've used 7zip and then decompiled but haven't found it. If not, would you happen to have any other guides for cm7 that may do the same thing?..
Thanks,
Derek

Backup the bootanimation_land.zip and bootanimation.zip in \oem\media\ before overwriting them!
Put the files:

Set permission on both files to rw-r-r and you are good to go!
Hope you all like it!

While browsing via some terminal emulator, android is just linux system, use "ls -la" command to figure out files permissons, and use "chmod 644 file.zip" command to set the "rw-r--r--" permissions. You need to be root to be able to change those files permissions.
Take advance that \system is read-only mount point, you need to re-mount the partition in order to make changes. If you're not sure how to do that, use some APP to change files permissions. I think Total Commander app is quite easy-to-use one... it will re-mount partition after changing file permissions... (of course, You need Total Commander to run with root access.....)
Nice, this can be @60 fps ?
Would it be possible to add the sound effect as well?

awesome work but could this me made into an apk so it could be easily installed and applied via Cyanogen Theme Engine for persons running custom roms ?
THX for this boot animation

From the lack of nvidia bootanimations made for the shield, i decided to create one myself.
THE WAY IT'S MEANT TO BE PLAYED™ | NVIDIA [email protected]
REQUIRES ROOT
Backup the bootanimation_land.zip and bootanimation.zip in \oem\media\ before overwriting them!
Put the files:
bootanimation_land.zip
bootanimation.zip
in \oem\media\ using your favorite file manager.
Set permission on both files to rw-r-r and you are good to go!
Hope you all like it!
I am not responsible for any damage you do to your device.
[UPDATE]
There was an issue with the portrait animation (bootanimation.zip). The file is updated and the problem should be solved.

Thanks for good work, on MM seems to be landscaped again and files path is changed to system\media\
The only game that I saw with a best animated logo than yours is from the game "never alone". Can you extract it?
Regards!

I'm sure it would. Was thinking about it, but from what i understand, it's quite the job. And as i mentioned in my previous reply, i currently don't have the time unfortunately.

This is how the tablets should have come. Nice animations. Look forward to a M compatible Portrait one. Landscape looks nice on both my K and M devices.

The portrait image is of the side of the tablet and it looks stretched out?

Yeah, I have the issue with the Portrait one on M too. Maybe it's just a simple fault in the desc.txt?
@kimern It is a simple edit of the desc.txt to fix the mm issue. I changed it on my own and it works beautifully on the 6.0.1 Vulcan preview. Thank you!

I sent you a pm with links to both the portrait and landscape, I made small edits to both I think, one of them only to change the resolution tho. I won't post links since I have no permission from the dev, and nowhere to host them.
Edit: I changed the resolution to 1200 x 1980 and vice versa for the two files.

You must have apktool setup in the Windows path to run from anywhere
How it works:
unzip files
copy the scripts folder to the root of c:\
double click compile.reg and decompile.reg, this will add the entries to the registry
You can decompile and compile up to 10 at once. Not sure why its limited to 10.
This is tested working on Windows 10. Please let me know if it works for other versions as I will add that to the description.
Please do NOT ask how to setup apktool, you need to already know that much.
whats included in the zip...
compile.reg
decompile.reg
Maximum level of decompiling raised (V2)
scripts folder containing both .bat files
Download it here
Download V2 with raised level of decompiling here
Now to use it:
On an apk, right click and you will see a new option called Decompile. Select that, then it will decompile it in the folder you currently are
On an already decompiled apk folder, right click and Compile option will appear. Select that and it will compile the apk
Maxed_Apktool.reg
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer]
"MultipleInvokePromptMinimum"=dword:00000999
thanks @Licaon_Kter for the addition.
decompile.reg
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\Run script]
@="Run &script"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\Decompile\command]
@="\"C:\\scripts\\decompile2.bat\" \"%1\""

Awesome I'll have to try this later ?
Great thank you!
Amazing work! Can I recompile an apk which hasnt been decompiled with this method? I've the folder so I can recompile?
I got it set up and running last night, works great! Makes things easier and faster. Just make sure you have apktool up and running correctly first.
DOWNLOADING for further test.. i'll report back later
thanks..

No, it has to be decompiled to recompile it again.
What is the newest version of APKtool? I found 2.2.2 on the site, but it seems to have issues with the Nougat files for my LG V20.
I've used it on Windows 10 and Ubuntu, same results.

Try that one. It says dirty, but that hasn't affected anything. I got that from somewhere when the v20 first came out.
And its what i am using for my v20 work. So i know that one will work.

Thanks! Have you done anything with SystemUI? I ran into issues after modifying it for 3Minit support.

Good find. Ill try that and see what happens.
According to the link it should be 15 not 10. I'm not at my pc now to test it.
But it says if you change it to 16, that's Microsoft's unlimited amount.
Maybe i can incorporate that into my registry mods.
Hi all, if this can decompile and re compile, can i change or modify a camera app to support 1440x2560 for lg g3 ? It currently only display well in 1080x1920, so i have to downgrade my display setting. Can someone be kind enough to direct me to which files or folder to begin with and do i have to create or modify some xml code ? Thanks

You're going to have to search for some camera mods. This can decompile the apk sure. But I've never edited the camera.
Thanks, nice tool.

Would you mind taking a look at these decompiled SystemUI APKs? I can compile the US_LG one fine, and also the TMO one. But the ATT one tells me there's missing resources, but all the edits made and files added are identical.
