[Q][UK]Whats the cheapest data contract? - Off-topic

Hi
I was thinking of trying a contract sim for a year and seeing if its worth it or not.
I would like something the offers me at least 300mb internet and some texts and some minutes.
Not really bothered what network.
Thanks

What kind of price monthly?

I have found an 02 payg 300 texts, 500mb web & unlimited wifi for £10
Can you better that?

Yeah! GiffGaff
Unlimited internet, unlimited texts, 250 mins - £10 A month.

UK Note Owners: What network are you on??

Hi Guys,
I was wondering what network you are using your note on, and how your finding it?
I'm currently on O2, but they aren't doing for free on upgrade yet. The Retention team have told me to wait till Monday before they will know if they are getting it to provide me a better deal.
Meanwhile, I've seen this deal on Phones 4 U. It's on Vodafone and the price plan seems pretty decent (free phone, £46/month for 18months, 900mins, 750MB) compared to anything O2 have to offer on their website at the moment (£105 for the phone, £51/month for 18months, 900mins, 1GB).
Dilemma:
Do I wait (impatiently!!) to see if the O2 Retention team will get it?? (Might be this Monday, might be longer!!!)
Do I jump ship and go with the Vodafone deal from Phones4U??
Do I just get a Nexus......??
All opinions will be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks in advance!
carphonewarehouse (24 contract)
vodafone : free phone £41 a month , 900 mins. unlimited text . 750Mb data and 2Gb BT wifi hotspot
or £79 for phone , £36 a month , 600 mins ,unlimited text , 500Mb data and 2Gb BT wifi hotspot
Wait till monday, haggle to get the deals posted above, but at the same time, figure out how much you really need, and see if GiffGaff + Note off amazon.de (~£460) works out cheaper.
I got myn from amazon.de for £468 then got a sim only plan from T-mobile 300min any network + 300 texts + Unlimited internet for £7.75

i'm on virgin sim only 800 minutes , 3000 texts, 3000 virgin to virgin minutes 1gb Internet all for £7.53 per month on a 30 day rolling contract
Thanks for the reply guys.
I'm not really looking to buy the phone in cash up front. Especially since £450+ is quite hard to part with in one go.
Also, I'm not looking at other networks apart from O2 and Vodafone as most of them generally have bad customer service or low quality network service.
I'm also not willing to do a 24 month contract. Technology is improving at such a fast rate these days that in 1 years time, the Note will become old school, so ideally, I'd like to upgrade again in 12-18 months.
Does anyone use Vodafone? What are they like generally and for data connection?
Has anyone moved from O2 to Vodafone and seen it as an upgrade in network service?
Thanks guys!!
Hi Shadh1
I got mine from Phones4U online on Vodafone (£24 month contract, Free phone, £41 a month, 900 mins, unlimited text, 750Mb data and 3 month free 2Gb wifi hotspot).
In my opinion (nearly 20 years of mobile use and some of those years managing corporate mobile contracts for businesses) Vodafone currently have the better data network. Voice wise i think they are both as good/bad as each other. As with most things though this is always subjective!
Enjoy your note when you get it, it is really really worth it !
Im on O2. Was on Simplicity.
I got Internet All Rounder 300. 300 mins, unlimited texts, 1gb data, 50mms. £36 PM.
Phone cost £90, would have only been £60 for new customers.
That was from buymobiles. Same deal from O2 was £150

I never had a problem with Virgin. Always very very fast data and good reception always.
£468 SIM free from amazon.de and giffgaff PAYG for my airtime and data. I'm a light user and chomp through credit at the rate of around £3 per month so over 2 years my total cost will be around £540 give or take.
If you don't have the money to pay upfront, try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19664438&postcount=20
Use GiffGaff and be a winner
I had a really bad experience with Phoens4u, basically they do not have any stock, and this is an update from yesterday (24/11/11), I just ordered mine from buymobilephones.net on t-mobile, £30 a month, 900 minutes, 500 texts, 500mb internet and phone for £49.99. They have confirmed delivery for tomorrow.
What ever you do, DO NOT GO TO Phones4U, they messed me around for 2 weeks. Nightmare!!!
Similar to a few people here I bought my Note offline and using it with my Vodafone sim-only contract. No problems at all using the Note in Vodafone, I haven't even needed to change a single setting for data.

am with t-mobile, was due an upgrade but they do not yet offer this handset and do not know if/when they will be, which is odd since Orange do and they are merged nowadays. Went to CPW and T-mo covered most of the cost of the upgrade price, so I paid £70 with a £35 monthly contract, 18-months. For that I have 1200mins, 500 text, 3Gb internet with webNwalk plus, and an unlimited landline booster. Not 100% sure on the internet though as I'd heard T-mo capped all to 500M since beginning of the month, but that was what I was told by the T-mo support person as we changed the tarrif. I see download rates of up to 1800Kbps which is pretty reasonable.
Note though, none in store a couple days ago, so ordered by phone, was shipped next day delivery from warehouse.
Phones4U don't seem to offer upgrades on T-mo and want to persuade you to switch. They were offering the handset free on a 46/month contract with Voda, same deal as already mentioned, and apparently would cover the cost to terminate from your current provider if near the end, but when I did the math, £11/month over 24 months would have been 3x the handset cost I paid, so not worth thinking about.

Sub 450 UKP for the phone and 3/three network. 25 quid per month, rolling monthly. Complete freedom but that is 950 quid over 2 years... So it's do as I say and not as I do, for I haven't got 450 to 'spunk' on one of these just yet, either (HD2 still).
There's even a topcashback refund, although it's a bit iffy in my experience. I never got paid out by Three...
Absolutely all you can eat data. I hammer it all day long......Two networked pc's, streamed music, tv...Watching tv and on this now, through the SIM...
2,000 any network minutes
5,000 Three-to-Three minutes
5,000 texts
All-you-can-eat Data
Free Voicemail
Or there are some all you can eat refurbs for 13 quid a month. 24 months, flog the phone, 300/500 mins, 5,000! txts....Now that is tempting..
Am looking at GiffGaff too, but it's about as clear as mud if you can tether with them. Basically it's a No, from what I can gather..

What phone plan do you have? (any country)

I'm just curious as to what kind of plans are out there in the world compared to my plan and my country.
Right now I think I'm getting ripped off hardcore; cause I'm looking at the new plans from my same provider and they're offering waaaay more for just a little bit more money.
This is my plan : unlimited texts;international also, unlimited incoming calls, unlimited evenings and weekends, and 200 anytime mins, with NO DATA.
the sad thing is the price: $33.90/month.
my phone is a nexus s and I'm on Fido (a subsidiary of Rogers)
so.... what kinda plans do you guys have and how much do you pay per month?
On VZW I'm paying
$39.99 - 450 mins
$10.00 - 1000 messages
$50.00 - 10 GB data (double data promo)
A little over $100/mo after taxes and fees.
Sprint
$69.99 = Unlimited texts, unlimited data, 450 minutes (landline), unlimited minutes (cell to cell)
$10.00 = premium data (for having the 4 geez i guess)
$11.00 = insurance
27% discount = no idea why i got that...
---------------
$78 / month
R$ 17 -> For other carriers and home numbers
R$ 10 -> R$ 0,50 for messages, and R$ 0,50 for internet, they day that any of those two are used.
Free calls for phone from the same carrier as mine

R$ 27/month.

Basically yes, but the speed is horrible, even on H signal, and I have only R$ 10 per month to share with messages, which have the same rule: I can send unlimited messages in the day I use and will only pay R$ 0,50.
But my carrier tricked me and my mom a few weeks ago. My mom went to my carrier shop to change my plan from other one to this one. I thought, in the next day, that it already changed (takes about 1 day to change), so I activated the **** it mode and started sending a hell lot of messages in that rest of the month. At the beginning of the other month, the bill came, and there was: About 150 messages sent (R$ 55) plus the internet (R$ 29 per month, "unlimited" (quotes because it's limited for 300 MB/month, so...)), plus calls.
Result: R$ 100.
"I got my values. So you can keep yours, OK?"
R$ 52,00 -> 110mins of calls + 30msgs
R$ 10,00 -> +1000msgs
R$ 5,00 -> "unlimited" internet (actually I have around 1mbps till I use 100mb, then the speed will go to around 200kbps, but I can still use it without paying anything extra)
R$ 67,00/month

I barely use my phone outside my WiFi range also. I control my limited data and sms cap so I have them left for a better occasion.
And I'm also forever alone, so I mostly use my phone, as related to calls and sms, to my parents and my cousin, mostly.

So my total - 4$

€15,00 for talk&text
€7,95 Unlimited 3G Data.
It's a collect plan, so basically I deposit €15 into my mobile wallet every month. It's stacked up to €600 by now because I only text. Not that I have that many people to text, maybe three at most, all work related.
Got it 2,5 years ago before the telecom companies turned into fulltime scammers, which means I still have truly unlimited data. So now I just keep extending my current plan. Granted, it means no new phone with a new plan, but these days you pay for your phone anyway, and there is no way I could ever get a cheaper plan now.

[Q] USA Prepaid Plan for HTC One.

After getting new unlocked one, I am thinking to switch from AT&T to prepaid plan...
Usage: 400-600 mins per month and 2-3 GB per month.
T-Mobile $30 5GB is great...but I need more minutes for both domestic and international calls...
Straight Talk $45 is great too...but there is no such "Unlimited data" and no customer service...
Can someone suggest a prepaid plan?

So i recommend to change the title of the question if you want the right people to get here

Nexus 5 US Prepaid Thread

This is your one stop thread for all US prepaid options. I have a paper due tomorrow, so I'll edit with more options later.
I've tried out most of the good prepaid carriers, so, hopefully, I can answer your questions.
AT&T Prepaid Carriers:
Net10:
$50 for unlimited minutes, messages, and data(2.5GB at 4G/LTE speeds).
Straight Talk:
$45 plus tax for unlimited minutes, messages, and data(2.5GB at 4G/LTE speeds).
H2o Wireless:
$60 for unlimited minutes, messages, and 3GB of data(at 3G/4G speeds)
$50 for unlimited minutes, messages, and 1GB of data(at 3G/4G speeds)
$40 for unlimited minutes, messages, and 500MB of data(at 3G/4G speeds)
$30 for unlimited minutes, messages, and 50MB of data(at 3G/4G speeds)
AIO Wireless:
4G/LTE data is throttled to 8MB/4MB
$70 for unlimited minutes, messages, and 7GB of data(7GB at 4G/LTE speeds, throttled after that)
$55 for unlimited minutes, messages, and 2GB of data(2GB at 4G/LTE speeds, throttled after that)
$40 for unlimited minutes, messages, and 250MB of data(250MB at 4G LTE speeds, throttled after that)
GoPhone
$60 for unlimited minutes, messages, and 2GB of data(at full 4G/LTE speeds)
$50 for unlimited minutes and messages.
$40 for 500 minutes, unlimited messages, and 200MB of data(at full 4G/LTE speeds)
$25 for 250 minutes and unlimited messages.
T-Mobile Prepaid Carriers:
T-Mobile Prepaid:
$70 for unlimited minutes, messages, and data(at full 4G/LTE speeds)
$60 for unlimited minutes, messages, and 2.5GB of data(2.5GB at full 4G/LTE speeds, 2G after that)
$50 for unlimited minutes, messages, and 500MB of data(500MB at full 4G/LTE speeds, 2G after that)
$30 for 100 minutes, unlimited messages, and 5GB of data(5GB at full 4G/LTE speeds, 2G after that)
$30 for 1500 combined minutes and texts, and 30MB of data(30MB at full 4G/LTE speeds).
And you didn't mention the single most popular wireless plan in the US today from T-Mobile? SHAME ON YOU!
Anyway...
$30/monthly for 100 minutes of talk/unlimited texts/5GB of data at up to 4G/LTE speeds (if supported in your area); after the 5GB cap is reached it throttles you to 2G/EDGE speeds (typically 50-150Kbps but theoretically up to about 240Kbps - yes that's Kilobits per second so at best you'd see 8-20 Kilobytes per second and that's in the best possible situation) - the data is never cut off so that's where they can get away with claiming "unlimited" in the marketing-speak.
Been on that plan for 2 years now, never had issues with it, can even do VoIP calls using Google Voice + Talkatone on 2G/EDGE and it works fine for me here in Las Vegas, we have fairly solid coverage citywide.
There really is no better plan available at this time, and there's no telling how much longer T-Mobile will offer it so, if you ain't on it yet, get on it - only available at Walmart or at T-Mobile online.
Lol, I'll get on it ASAP.
I've been on the $30/5GB plan a few times. I'm a huge fan. Right now, I'm on the Net10 plan though since T-Mobile coverage can be slightly spotty out here and I hate not being connected.

The $30 5GB data has only 100 minutes.
And the other $30 plan is 1500 minutes and messages (shared pool) and only 30MB of data (not sure how much one can stretch 30MB these days )

That was actually my firs prepaid plan. 15 years old with an iPhone 3GS. 30MB lasts when it's running through a 2G connection, lol.
Is data still cut off after 30MB or is it just throttled?

I believe it's cut. I haven't used that plan, I'm on the $30 5GB data + 10c/minute after the first 100 minutes.
I am not a heavy talker so it's the best deal around. Although I agree on T-mobile's coverage being spotty at best. They have so many dead zones around the city, you can walk into a store and drop from full bars with excellent data speeds down to nothing in a matter of a few feet indoors.
I don't have my nexus 5 yet but its gonna come in the mail. I have straight talk but as far as I know my Sim is only 3g. What do I have to do to get a 4g/LTE to work on my new nexus. Maybe my Sim does do lte just haven't had a phone to support it

I'd also like to stay with straight talk too, would that mean I'd need to get another Sim?

I'm guessing if LTE doesn't work immediately, you'll have to call tech support. I remember hearing someone say they had to call to enable LTE.

Sorry for asking a noob/maybe repeated question, but which network does simple mobile work on?
You should also mention that you are able to pick up 6 month cards routinely for Straight Talk for around $220, which brings the cost per month down to $37ish a month. They pop up on slickdeals routinely once or twice a month.

There is no noob question in my book. It works on T-Mobile's network.

You just need to order an LTE sim form Straighttalk. They have them right now for $7.

I just got my Nexus 5 yesterday & I haven't had a chance to go to an LTE area yet. The price of living in the middle of nowhere...
MetroPCS
you can use it on MetroPCS too, same plans as T-mobile with no roaming data.
$40 Unlimited talk and text - 500mb at 46
$50 Unlimited talk and text - 2.5GB at 4G
$60 Unlimited talk,text,data - unthrottled.
Same performance as T-mobile prepaid, just $10 cheaper and no roaming data.
Sprint $60 Unlimited Prepaid Plan
It looks like Sprint also has a $60 Unlimited plan, though they have restrictions on roaming.
Go to Sprint Website and look under Shop > Plans > No Contract Plans.
Loving MetroPCS so far it's new here in the Baltimore region; has beat out VZW in speed-test everywhere I've compared. Regarding StraightTalk and Net10 don't forget about the daily 4g cap of 150mb.
I also went with MetroPCS because it's a flat rate at $50, includes tax and fees. Not all pre pays do the same. For instance Solavei at first seems like a good deal for 4gb of non throttled data (no LTE access though) but with taxes and fees ur bill will be closer to $60 than the advertised $50.
I really think tmobile / metroPCS is the best all-around deal if service is decent in your area. 4G LTE wih HSPA+42 to fall back on is an amazing proposition.
Need some StraightTalk help: Been with them ever since I got the GNex. Right now, with the N5, I just cut the GNex SIM and it works fine on HSPA+ (6 down 2 up'ish). But I wanted LTE with the N5, so I ordered the Micro SIM for $7. I'm lazy, so I just pay the $45 and I have my credit card on file with them for a recurring charge. How do I get them to transfer the same number to the SIM, and replace the current regular SIM on my account with the new one? I noticed when I ordered the new one, it asked if I was already a ST customer, so I clicked the 'Yes' button. I tried their Live Chat, but it was hopeless.
Thx

It's actually very simple.
Log into your account and select activate a phone or Sim.
Select the transfer my existing Straight Talk service option.
The rest is pretty self explanatory, and you'll be ready to go in minutes

I'm not sure if the 1500 $30 Tmobile plan gets its data cut off, it still gets slowed to 2G like the other plans. Can't get confirmation from the website since they made that plan in-store only, but I came across a CSR reply to a question on the TMo site:
Great questions rollinghills!
This plan includes 1500 minutes OR messages, so one would be deducted for either. Also, once your data limit is used, your web speeds will be slowed. You can learn more about data speed reduction here: Data Speed Reduction.

Has anyone tried AIO Wireless? im in the eastern mass area and was wondering if the speeds are any good.
