[Q] VZW Tab - Flashed Roto/JMI, have no modem - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have successfully installed the Roto/JMI v2 Rom on my Verizon Galaxy Tab.
It seems to work, but somehow I lost my modem. Where can I find the CSC/Phone firmware to reflash using Heimdall?

did you roto back first before anything?

Here is the modem.bin file extracted from my Verizon GTab. It worked to fix my modem when I mistakenly placed the zImage file in modem slot for Heimdall.
Used 7z to compress. Just uncompress and use Heimdall to update.
Let me know if this works for you...

when I use that modem.bin, heimdall with go to install it then sit at 100% but doesn't actually install it. It locks up, when I restart I get the phone exclamation mark computer error picture.

Hmm, that shouldn't happen. How long did you wait? Heimdall will wait quite some time (sometimes 5 minutes or more) for the phone to respond. If the phone doesn't respond in this time then you should see an error message.
Anyway if the modem flash did actually make it to 100% then you should be able to use the command line tool directly to just get rid of the phone exclamation screen:
heimdall close-pc-screen

Thanks for your response. I ended up re-flashing the Stock Firmware, and it worked.

Golden422 - How did you do this, what files did you use?
I have the exact same problem you were having, no luck for me.
I still stuck on airplane mode with no GPS.
If it means anything, under "About device" I have unknown Baseband and Hardware versions.
Thanks in advance.

Needed modem for Verizon Galaxy Tab

Same. I have no 3G network. I am also stuck at the 100% loading screen. Help would be awesome.

You guys should check out the Gingerbread leak for VZW that Oldmacnut posted in the development section. It's a full stock GB rom. Otherwise I'd recommend his Better Than Life rom. The stock GB should get you back up and running, then you can figure out what you want to do from there. There's also a stock Froyo rom floating around here for the VZW tabs as well. The Sprint rom breaks the VZW tab's 3g, known issue. You always want to try and get the stock rom for your specific tab.

The Sprint install breaks my modem? How unfortunate. Anyway how do I put a band-aid on it to fix it? Lol
Hope I don't have to send it back to get it fixed...

[Q] Help removing AT&T Logo from startup

Sorry to open this thread, but I'd been reading some other threads and I've seen ppl asking about it, but since it's mixed with some other topic it just get forgotten.
Anyways, I've flashed my Rogers Captivate to a AT&T 2.2 firmware, but I'm having problems with Rogers itself (they keep screwing up my bills for the last 4 months, this month they were charging me CDN$855 ><). So I decided to cancel with then and go with Bell's Vibrant. The problem I'm having is that I flashed back to Rogers stock rom, but the AT&T is still there. I pre-ordered my galaxy so I have to send via mail, I can't just return to a store. So I need to remove the AT&T logo at the start up.
Any ideas on how I do that ?? I just started using Android so a step by step would be appreciated, specially because I have to return it as soon as possible, so I don't have much time to experiment

you need to find the stock boot.bin & param.lfs
to remove the att logo.

Be careful though, those 2 files are the most dangerous files to play with!
However, I believe that might be fixed if you flash the stock firmware with the option "Phone Bootloader Update" ticket. Not 100% sure though.
Can someone confirm?

You don't need that checked if you have the boot.bin in the pda..
param.lfs is where the images are contained and param.lfs is stored on stl6
the dangerous one is the boot.bin
flash with this kernel, it doesn't have the ATT logo.
http://etc.muteheadlight.net/android/I9000_reoriented_v2.1.3.tar
If someone with a Rogers Captivate who hasn't flashed AT&T firmware could dump /dev/block/stl6 it might be helpful.
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/stl6 of=/sdcard/stl6.bin

Well.. if you wanna replace the ATT logo with the i9000 logo.. then go ahead
I would say that the i900 logo looks a billion times better than AT&T.
On a related note, it would be great if that freaking AT&T splash was replaceable with custom image.

hey guys hopefully someone has an answer. I have a att captivate running a.n. beta1 (child of Dg's aosp) with the Zimage from Cognition 2.3B2. I wanna remove the att splash screen and replace it with the android mask file found in framework-res.apk assets/images. It looks like this on the phone....http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14217261/IMG00009-20100820-2119.jpg. I just wanna remove that damn att screen even if its just black or the samsung galaxy s logo screen then bootanimation. any help would be awesome. (I dont mean to hijack this thread but didnt wanna get yelled at if i started a new thread)
that AT&T splash screen you guys are talking about is located in the param.lfs file that is flashed with ODIN, stored in one of the bml blocks and viewable in /.lfs in the root of the phone.
As has been shown with the Samsung Moment, this file can be flashed and replaced, but is a terrible idea. For them, replacing that file required it be under 100 KB and would lead to a brick (that is unrecoverable if I listened to noobnl correctly).
basically, it's at worst a minor annoyance and not worth the potential damage in my opinion.
I have a backup from ROM manager when I had stock firmware (rooted). Let me know if I could pull out some info from that!
Thanx for the help guys.
Well I guess the I9000 logo isn't as annoying as the AT&T. If I can't solve the problem and my return is refused, I guess i'd prefer the I9000 logo lol
I'll try to flash to that tomorrow.

Do you think it's possible to upload the ROM you have from rogers ??
Another I noticed is that now my GPS is screwed up. I was able to get a perfect lock with the rogers rom. No I'm about 1 block north and 1 east away. For basic stuff that wouldn't bother me, but if I could fix that... I tried the *#*#1472365#*#* thingie but nothing really happened. I mean, when I first start google maps I get the perfect location, but after the map loads I warp someplace else lol.

Rogers captivate, now has att firmware because of odin1click

ok so my phone got stuck, i fixed it with odin 1 click, but it changed the whole firmware, now instead of rogers boot up its att, and now it has a bunch of att apps and the rogers one are gone, is their anyway i can restore to a rogers firmware somehow, running 2.1

I don't use Kies so I am not sure what option you are talking about. What you might be able to do is download the firmware from samfirmwares.com for your Rogers Captivate and install it using the full version of Odin.

[Q] Urgent help needed - No service after firmware update

Hi guys,
Yesterday i tried to install version 2.3.3 from samfirmware on my Galaxy S (Stock 2.2.1), but came to realize that some features was not in my language (Danish).
I wanted to go back to my stock firmware, but i've tried different guides to bring it back to stock with 2.1 and then upgrade it through KIES to 2.2.1.
But none of the guides I found worked for me as KIES kept saying that "This device's version can not be updated". So ultimately I went back to the 2.3.3, but now I have no service at all.
I have no idea what to do anymore and I hope someone here can help me out.
Did you check your apn settings? If you don't gave an apn set up then you won't get data. Search for the settings of your carrier.
Sent from my Iphone killing I9000
I can only find settings for internet and mms for APN... There are no settings for getting a signal.
If it is telling you that it can't be updated, it means either the PDA, CSC or Modem are not what it considers stock for you.
You can use one of the many Kies spoof methods found here at XDA, or just forget about Kies and cook a new 2.2.1 ROM in Doc's Kitchen, making sure to load in a Danish CSC.
Your connectivity problems are likely due to an incorrect CSC or as Joel suggested, your APN settings being wrong/missing. Hopefully flashing a proper CSC would fix that.
If the problem persists you could check to make sure your bandwidth options are correct, using the secret code found in SGS Tools to change them.

What was your stock build? You may be able to install it as a deodexed ROM from Ramad using Odin.
As for an easy way, sadly there is no "Make all the bad things go away" option in CWM yet. Maybe next version.

If you don't know what the stock firmware was I would drop any further attempt to return to it and just move forward.
Go look at the ROM Kitchen thread and follow the very clear instructions there for creating and flashing a 2.2.1 ROM with the right CSC.

Thank you. My only problem is the small installation guide that is posted there does not work for me. In recovery mode I haven't got the option to install the docrom - all i can do is choose Apply sdcard:update.zip and then theres 2 different kinds of whipe and that is it.
Look you might be best off just using Odin to flash a stock JPO with a multi CSC rather than using the ROM kitchen. The link below is a really good tutorial that will show you how to do it and set your CSC
http://samsunggalaxysforums.com/showthread.php/2921-How-to-use-Odin-to-upgrade-to-Froyo-from-Eclair

Well the Kitchen Rom didn't work when i finally got it installed.
I went back to samfirmware.com and found the correct stock firmware i had before. After i installed it KIES also tells me i have the latest version.
However I still have no signal. I have the correct Internet and MMS settings in the APN and when i pull down the top menu thingy it says "(No signal) M1" (M1 is my provider), so it seems to recognize the simcard correctly?

[Q] Data and Cell Connection goes off randomly?

So my mom is using my "old" Captivate. When she was on the beta version of Android 2.2, the data and cell connection kept turning off and she would have to restart the phone in order for it to work again.
I updated the phone by flashing Android 2.3.5 (I897 UC KK1). It was working totally fine and then it started to have the same issues as before.
I was wondering if anyone could be kind and help out.
If a new modem needs to be flashed, how do I do that?
As of now, there is NO root on my mom's phone since she doesn't care about that stuff.
All help is much appreciated!
PLEASE? Someone has to know......
You can try other modems. You need CWM to do that. Flash a kernel with CWM and then flash from the huge list of modems that can be found at Oxicottin's thread
I believe you could also extract the modem.bin from those zip files. You could then place that modem.bin in the PHONE slot within ODIN and just flash the modem itself without ever changing the kernel.
Please someone correct me if I am leading him wrong. This would require him to only flash with ODIN once and still keep his stock kernel.
You are right that can be done as well.

[Q] Galaxy Note from China (GT-I9228G), change to western ROM?

Hello all,
During my travels in China, I picked up a GT-I9228G galaxy note.
Back in the UK now, and hoping I could change the rom to the english varient of GT-N7000? I am assuming GT-I9228G and GT-N7000 is the same device, just different regional roms(?).
The boot screen is chinese. It has chinese apps on it which I cant remove and no app store amongst other things. Ideally, would like to make the phone all english. Is this possible?
Just a bit of background on me:
I used to own a HTC PDA which I swap roms from developers here and very familair with jail breaking on apple products. Andriod however is new to me. I am a quick learner, so any pointers would be great please guys/gals.

I guess you could... Lots of other people bought their galaxy note from Hong Kong and also from china and they all changed their ROM for a same reason of yours.
Does not the 9220 using a snapdragons and not exynos? I not sure but I thing I have read it somewhere so carefully before flashing.

So, potentially I could just change to the one below?
N7000XXKKA ## 2.3.6 2011 November N7000CPWKK3 United Kingdom (Carphone Warehouse) Download
The box says 1.4 + <insert chinese characters here>
From wiki -A dual-core 1.4Ghz Exynos processor or a 1.5 Ghz Snapdragon S3 processor (AT&T, SK Telecom, KT, LG U+)
So my guess is Exynos. Anyway to double check?
ok, so I have downloaded the above rom and Odin3 v1.83 from sammobile.
I have opened Odin3 and specified the PIT file (Q1_20110914_16GB)
I have also ticket re-partition, auto reboot and F.reset timer.
I have loaded the rom under PDA (N7000XXKKA_N7000CPWKK3_N7000XXKK5_HOME.tar), everything else is unticked.
I have the phone in download mode ready.
I just need to know if the above is ok or am I missing anything before I click START and brick my phone?
Thanks,
Chris.
well I tried anyway.
That didnt work.
Now the phone says "software update fail"
I can still get into download mode, buts thats about it.
tried with and without the PIT file.
Anyone know what I should do now please?
I'd say you'll have to find a rom for that model
maybe http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-I9220&r=2#regiona
You might have bricked your phone by checking repartition in odin. You should not have. Now you probably need to find a pit file for your model.

If you could enter download mode then try these steps
1. Open Odin and flash Pit file only and Re-partition ticked. (do not attach any ROM)
2. After this again flash ROM without pit file and re-partition un-ticked
This should work.

Going to try the original ROM, but takes about 6 hours to download from china!.
Ideally, really dont want to use the original ROM though! I'm guessing the original ROM isnt going to work now anyway since ODIN3 has re-partitioned the device(?).
