i have nokia nuron (5230) and it allows sharing of the internet via bluetooth. does the tab have any bluetooth profiles that will connect to my nuron and allow the it to get to the internet? i cant actually try it right now since i am on CM7 and bluetooth isnt working properly. let me know if anyone has tried something similar. thanks.
android does not provide reverse DUN or PAN bluetooth access to other devices
however
I had another tablet that you could use an app that let you connect to other phones using the DUN capabilities.
I could connect my old nokia to the tablet and it really worked, but I couldn't do the same on my X10 nor my G1, I suspect the Gtab would be the same case(mainly for the lack of bluetooth profiles on the tab)
If you want the apk I could send it to you if you or another member want to test it and figure it out how to make it work
willing to try anything at this point. PM sent.

What can I do with bluetooth obex?
Anyone else not able to search xda using the stock g1 browser?
with bluetooth obex you can send and receive files via bluetooth as long as both devices are rooted.
both devices have to be rooted? Perhaps I am reading into that too much but you can't mean we can only share with other android phones right?
I saw it says bluetooth FTP... which made me wonder if I was missing something, like if I could do stuff with my computer remotely. What is the significance of FTP on this apps name *when you open it*.
Sorry, would be nice if you could search on here using the G1s browser.
Bluetooth File Transfer Protocol meaning its a program used to transfer files over the Bluetooth Frequency.

Nope, I connected to my iMac. It can share with any other device that has the bluetooth file sharing enabled/available.

connected to my friends nokia 6265i ... its a regular phone not a smartphone .. was able to view his files and everything ... loving the new bluetooth app
ok so then how do you enable the file sharing etc on android ? I was trying to test with a friend of mine who has an android, and was unable to find the setting any ideas? thanks!
Yeah, my buddy has an iPhuckinsuck, we let our phones become available, we scanned, we paired, but then we could not connect, even after I entered the correct PIN for his phone.
Perhaps I just don't know how to connect, but I have yet to connect with a phone correctly. Same scenario with my wife's BB. Could not connect.
Hey,
sorry if this has been discussed already. I searched but couldn't find an answer.
I am wondering if I can tether the Galaxy tab from my blackberry Storm. ie. share the data from the Storm with the Tab.
I know about rooting the phone and changing the setting to allow wifi tethering. It seems to me that this only applies when tethering an Android device to the Tab via wifi. This wouldn't work with my phone because it doesn't have bluetooth.
So is there a way to provide internet to the tab via bluetooth from the Storm?
I tried blutooth thethering to my rooted droid eris and never got it to work. I went wifi a few day ago and it works well.

Id like some info too. Blackberry bold 9700 here.

hope it works. I don't want to buy a new phone, atleast not yet!
can anyone help?
I tried Bluetooth tethering with my iphone 4 and was able to pair to recognize the iphone 4 and also on the iphone the galaxy pad was recognized however if you try to connect - the iphone 4 does not connect even though the Galaxy tab says it is paired.
Not sure what is the issue here. I read in the other issues with Bluetooth keyboard that they also have issues pairing certain keyboards.
I too want to use my iphone 4 data plan on the galaxy tab for data usage.
Anyone tried this or experience same problem?
Thanks
I m using the application "bluetooth file transfer" on my htc hero and it works just fine. And no need to root.
Didn't try on my tab though
Edit: sorry didn't read your post well thought you wanted to share files..
It disheartens me to see no activity in this thread. I'm really hoping for a bluetooth tethering option for my Blackberry (company won't give us any other option). Can't BB and Android just get along?!
Can anyone explain what the issue is with the Galaxy Tab and Bluetooth tethering?
They apparently have it working fine on the Xoom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=968801
Why would it work there and not with Galaxy Tabs?
Not sure why this had to be done by Google in Xoom stock rom. Archos had has this feature. At first it would not work with BB. Then a forum member discovered the issue was the compression parameter. Recently archos incorporated this fix in the newest firmware and BB are tethering fine now.
Ordered a Galaxy Tab today. I will see if I can figure this out once it's here...
I've played with this issue on Archos Tab.
If someobody wants to play with this, here's some info on how we got it to work see here:

Hi
I have no problem on my blackberry 9780. I can tether this devices internet connection via bluetooth. the app name is PdaNet. Along with this app you can tether blackberry's connection to any device via bluetooth. It was successfull with my ex tablet.
however I couldnt manage to connect my galaxy tab. the issue to solve is the tab.
if we can find to connect this table via bluetooth (for internet sharing), the problem would be solved.
anyone has a solution?
thnx
I'm looking to understand what options exist for tethering the NC to a phone for data. I believe the only method currently supported is by creating an ad-hoc wifi network using software on the phone, and joining this network from the NC.
I have a Blackberry 9700, which cannot be setup as a wifi hotspot. With the release of CM7 build 17, it sounds like Bluetooth works (with limited range). My phone supports Bluetooth tethering because I've set it up with my Windows 7 laptop. I'm curious to find out whether this will be possible with the NC as well.. if not, what other options are there for getting online with my NC (besides having to purchase a phone that has hotspot capability). I used to use PDANet with a Palm Treo back in the day.. I'm also not opposed to physical cable-tethering if this is a possibility.
Thanks in advance.
I would like to know this as well. My Evo is not rooted and I'd like to keep it that way for now, so my only options are PDAnet via physical cable and bluetooth (which I can utilize on CM7 but it breaks wifi) or Easytether (physical).

So are you confirming that you've got Bluetooth tethering working with your phone using CM7? Does the build break wifi permanently, or is it only during BT tethering?
Haven't tried it yet but now that you mention it.. I'm going to try it!
Excellent, can't wait to hear the results..
Will pair, won't connect
Well, that takes that option out of the running. I really prefer a physical connection though, and so far, I haven't seen any micro-micro (assuming this is because of power requirements anyway).
Even with the phone right next to the NC? That's disappointing.. by micro-micro, are you referring to the type of USB cable needed? I don't have the device yet, so I'm not sure what kind of connections it has available. Tethering over BT is the last feature I'm waiting for before pulling the trigger on this bad boy. I plan to use it as a removable CarPC (using my phone for data and an external Bluetooth receiver for GPS).
Yup right next to it. Now, I've seen some guys report that GPS works though via bluetooth and I plan on trying that next (need to charge my BT receiver.. hope the battery still works!). They said you needed a GPS app to fix your location though.
As for micro-micro, yep USB. But then we would probably need a client side app to be able to recognize that kind of connection.
And wifi seems broken with BT ENABLED (not on, just enabled).. going to revert.
Thanks for doing all that testing. Let me know how the pairing goes with your GPS receiver.. if you get that working, you would need GPS software that has all of the maps built-in (since Google Maps, etc, requires a data connection).
My primary use for the NC will be as a car PC, so the only thing holding me back is the Bluetooth tethering with my Blackberry (uses the Dial-Up Networking feature set).
I've been hoping to BT DUN working for my BB 9700 also. At the moment it appears that ppp needs to be enabled in the kernel for this to work. When I run pppd from the comand line it complains about ppp missing from the kernel.
It looks like the pppd program is being compiled with the CM7 build and that the ppp modules can be found in the kernel sources so there is hope. We could ask to have it added as a dynamic module but I not sure how to go about making the request. (I am a noob to the forums and not allowed post in Dev and there may be a another way to make requested that is preferred in any case. )
I also found this program that claims to set up a BT DUN connection via ppp and it does run without faulting on my NC:

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I found a post in the developers forum where someone asked how to do the same thing. The link in the response discusses how to get Bluetooth GPS and WiFi tethering to work, but it does not mention Bluetooth tethering to a phone. Unfortunately, I don't have enough posts under my name to respond to that thread, but I've subscribed to it in the hopes that someone else will point it out..

Same same same same.
Unrooted Evo and although I am having fun with all the great things we can do to our NC's I am really not ready to root my Evo just yet. Having that phone with me is the only reason I am able to walk away from my keyboard at all and just because you can doesn't mean you should.
I run Fedora on my laptop and can tether to my Evo using Azilink and USB cable without a problem but if I wanted to drag my lappie everywhere then the NC wouldn't be any fun atall!
Weird is when we can pair the Evo and the NC via Bluetooth (yes a few inches apart right now) but neither one wants to do the actual connection. The message pops up on both Evo and NC asking to acknowledge the "secret" code and what else to do but say yes to them both. Then they both try and fail to connect.
I guess there is a fix for AdHoc on CM7 but I am not sure how to get the unrooted Evo to create an AdHoc network for the NC to connect to. If anyone has that answer can you let us know? I will keep searching as well.

I have searched this topic but they all centered on Macs or got off topic or someone gave an answer that didnt even solve the solution. So i thought i would ask myself. Is there any way to share my LAPTOPs wifi TO my DROID3???
http://bit.ly/uGGo0Q
to the poster above; i dont like smarta**es. my post said i already searched so if you found something then post a link.
to everyone else i want something via usb or bluetooth. preferably usb. i have googled it and all the results are either hardware specific, need unbunto [i have windows 7] or dont have a solution. If you ever owned a zune [who has? lol besides a few of us] or a windows phone, they can do it from stock.

I have a bluetooth usb adapter on my laptop I am not sure how it does it but it allows me to get online with my droid 3 via the bluetooth link, I click on connect via access point and it works. Sometimes it works and sometimes the signal gets killed, but try connecting through a bluetooth usb adapter.
I know you said preferably over Bluetooth or USB but have you considered trying something like a virtual access point for your PC? It would require WIFI but you could run a software app on your PC that broadcasts as an access point that you could connect to from your phone.
You have a phone that is wifi capable, but you want to thether to your pc to use the wifi connection.
Oh and I hate smartasses too.

ASUS bluetooth adapter I got it from meritiline a couple years ago, just been using it recently. And all I did was turn on the bluetooth on my phone and it worked, didn't download any software or anything.

Your telling me I was just fooling around with my phone and laptop on day, and clicked on a link and boom I was online. I looked at my signal and was thinking "what the hell just happened?" lol
Ifnyou have windows 7 just install connectify
Google it (smartassingly probably just add a .com to that..)
It adds an AP virtual. That sjould not spend alot more of power as you have already wifi running.

If you laptop has Bluetooth (It should, I thought all Intel wifi chipsets in laptops were also Bluetooth) then what you want is a PAN "Personal Area Network". I thought the basic bluetooth stack in Windows supported this out of the box. (The Toshiba BT stack I used with Windows XP did, I don't know for sure about the MS BT stack in Windows 7 though).
Then you just turn on Internet Connection Sharing for you Wifi adapter to the Bluetooth PAN adapter.
Something like that anyway. I'm going from memory on the Windows side, and assuming the Droid 3 (etc.) supports PAN on its Bluetooth setup.
Doing it with USB though is trickier. On Windows 7, my ME863 appears as a network device with IP address, but I don't know if it'd work if I simply used ICS to share a link to the device because I don't know that the phone would be looking for a DHCP server. (It _is_ a DHCP server at this point)
Are you sure your not using the phones 3g or wifi. Did you try turnin on airplane mode and seeing if you still have internet

I just had a play, and I don't think my bluetooth solution is as easy as I'd hoped.
My Milestone 3 was able to join a PAN with my laptop and form their little adhoc network.
The best phone-side instructions I could find are at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=666988 however a look around suggests that Windows 7 ICS won't let you share a network connection _to_ a BT network. I certainly couldn't see a way, although possibly it was because my phone is exporting a default gateway, rather than because of any inherent limitation of Windows.
It's a starting point, but not a particularly promising one. Whether ICS can be made to share Internet to the bluetooth PAN or not is really the only sticking point for "possible" versus "impossible" but a root-enabled App or possibly custom ROM would be needed on the phone to move from "possible" to "easy".

http://social.technet.microsoft.com.../thread/84731dc8-0b23-433b-a58b-a0a2d41d93be/ suggests that a third-party Bluetooth stack would work though, just not the MS stack.
Hi, I have internet connection on my iPhone, but I aways need turn on hotspot on iphone everytime I enter in car because hotspot only is powered on for some time..
So I would like find way to do it automatically.
I think best way is use some app to automate it..
Iphone accept tether via bluetooth. And anyway bluetooth connect automatically. Best yet, who request internet is client, so, android request internet.
I would use bellow logic, if bluetooth device x is connected then request bluetooth pan (tethering). But I not found any way it works. Somebody k own exactly how to do it?
This is a good question -I would like the same functionality on my intel sofia based joying headunit, with my wifes iPhone.
if you are jailbroken just use an app called activator.... it's similar to tasker for android.

AFAIK, activator is awesome... but you can only enable native wifi hotspot tethering through it.
PLEASE prove me wrong!
