[Q] Anyone have stock DL30 messaging app? - Fascinate Themes and Apps

Hi,
Running DL30 Super Clean 1.0 with DJ05 Radio.
I was having weird issues sending MMS and decided to try to reinstall the messaging app from ROM manager under jt1134's section. Bad idea - it opens and I can read my messages - but after sending one (either SMS or MMS), the app FC's. Can someone please post just the new messaging app from DL30 for me?
Also, is anyone else having trouble with MMS after upgrading to DL30, using this radio? SMS was working fine, and I could send photos just fine - but long plain text messages (those that were long enough to have the phone convert them to MMS) were not received properly (at least on non-smartphones).
I did wipe data/cache and dalvik cache in the upgrade process.
The only thing I can think of is that after upgrading to DL30, I restored "SMS/MMS prefs". This resulted in my old text messages becoming available (I hadn't backed them up prior to DL30), but wonder if perhaps something didn't play nice with the new messaging app for DL30.
Anyway, I don't really care about my old messages anymore, just want new SMS and MMS to work.
Thanks in advance,
JB

You've got the stock messaging app and you just don't know it. Unzip the superclean zip on your computer, navigate to system/app (of the unzipped superclean, on your computer) and pull messaging.apk out of there. throw it on your sdcard, then copy/paste it from your sdcard to system/app on your fascinate. Then reboot.
Voila, stock messaging app back where it should be.

Thanks! Total brain fart, should've known this.

Very cool except I do not see that apk anywhere in the superclean zip.

You're right, there's no particular "messaging.apk" in system/app.....try "mms.apk" ? Just a guess...i know sms and mms are different, but it might work?

Didn't mean to hit thanks for the above poster, but oh well. He is correct. mms.apk is what you are looking for.

MMS.apk help

Hey guys!
So I am using Fresh 2.0d and love it! But I am having one slight issue that would make it amazing for me. I use SlidescreenPro as my home screen replacement. When using it with SenseUI roms such as Fresh 2.0d, the stock HTC messaging app is overriding the ability to set Chompsms as my main app in Slidescreen. To prove it, I deleted mms.apk, and while it did set chompsms as my main sms app on the homescreen, it removed my ability to receive incoming messages. Does anyone have an mms.apk that will be the vanilla android sms/mms app that will work with the Fresh 2.0d ROM?
bumping to the top!
Bumped to the top. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Did you do a nandroid backup before you started erasing apks?
Yes i did, so I do have something to fall back on. But I would need to find an mms.apk with the vanilla android messenger app. Could i take it from an asop build and that should work with fresh 2.0d?
I think i figured it all out. I unziped a ROM in which the featured worked, copied the Mms.apk, deleted the current mms.apk, and pushed the working one. Seems to be working alright.

[Q] Titanium Backup 2.1 to Froyo 2.2 MMS/SMS Error

I have a Samsung Captivate. I recently flashed to Cognition 2.2 Beta 5 via Odin.
With Titanium Backup I was able to restore ALMOST everything, including most of the apps and account settings, which makes restoring almost painless
However, I can't restore TEXT messages. When I restore either:
[SMS/MMS/APN] Dialer Storage
[SMS/MMS PREFS] Messaging 2.2
I get the following error every 5 seconds or so making the phone virtually useless- Sorry!
The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
Force close
The only way I found to recover from this error is to use AnReboot (or manually reboot into recovery) and delete all user data. It took me a while to track down exactly what was crashing the phone, as I was randomly restoring stuff
One time I was able to catch a glimpse of the texts before it would repeatedly crash, so, I know that they are intact
I suppose my question is if there is any way to port the messages over, or should I just install an older ROM use another tool to backup the texts and then re-flash...Heck, I should just do that.

its because you are restoring system files from 2.1.....i would recommend using something like SMS backup+ to backup all your SMS messages....it sends them to your gmail so you never have to worry about it. no mms support, but its in the works
No MMS support definately is unfortunate.

As pointed out this is not Q and A and should have been posted in Captivate Q&A or Captivate General or Captivate Themes and Apps..
First off though while I wish everything worked together perfectly this isn't a perfect world. Secondly your complaining that an app doesn't work properly with an unofficial OS release that is called beta even by its creator and that was released 6 days ago! You downloaded a bleeding edge release, be prepared to get cut every now and then.
Cognition rocks as a whole but you need to have realistic expectations for the software developers. They may not test their app with every hacked rom out there, they may be unwilling to possibly brick a device just to see if things work right and they may be wholly unwilling to support 3rd party roms.
I know this may be a silly question, but did you do a reboot after you restored with Titanium? I know my SMS and MMS did not show up again until after the reboot. May also affect many of your other app data.
I had this problem too. first, backup your SMS messages with SMS Backup & Restore. then, archive your MMS Messages with Save MMS (it will move all your MMS pictures to the sdcard folder) AFAIK there is no program out there that will restore MMS messages to 2.2 from 2.1. you can restore the SMS messages w/ SMS backup & restore just fine going from 2.1 to 2.2
mine would flat out hardlock the phone when i restored my SMS/MMS w/ TiBU, or with my backup pro
I had MMS issues when I was running beta 4, all I did was one Odin click back to 2.1 and install beta 5.5 with clockwork recovery and It worked fine after.
- DG + Froyo + Captivate = The best threesome ever!

Apologies, this was obviously my first post. I wasn't sure whether this was developmental due to the app, or a phone issue...Please move if necessary.

I wasn't complaining at all. I was simply asking if there was a way to port the texts over.
I simply said it was "unfortunate", as it would have been nice to have my MMS/SMS work as everything else does.
I do agree that the Cognition release is pretty awesome. Not sure why the mail was changed, and a couple other features, but, all in all, 100% better than stock 2.1
I realize it's bleeding edge. I wasn't "expecting" anything, but, when MOST things worked and this didn't I was simply trying to figure out a solution.
GR8Danes-I did reboot. In fact, nothing really restores until after a reboot, and after the reboot is the exact moment it "breaks".
Sicwan-to be clear you can restore SMS, but, not MMS? by archive you basically mean save the attachments I assume. With the SMS, does it at least maintain the threads?
cheetah-I wasn't aware that you could use clockwork with 2.2 beta 5. I thought that involved kernal swapping, or the like. Could you provide a link, or a few more details? This is really the only caveat I've found.
Ooops...Double post

I had the same problem you had, where I restored data from 2.1update1, and it caused a phone crash. I now use SMS Backup & Restore, it backs up and restores every text message, and maintains the threads as well. The only issue I have had with it is that it puts all the MMS messages I've received as the first messages. But on that note, I've also found that it does back up MMS, at least for me...

Maybe I'll give that a try. The TXT's are really the only thing that has me stuck. I have a clockwork backup of my 2.1 image that has tons on it, I have new one's since I've been testing these ROM's.
OK, well, maybe not JUST the texts, but, trying to stay on topic here.
I find myself in an odd spot though. I would like to get all my texts consolidated though so that I can make images of both the old OS, and the new OS, however, I know that if I use clockwork to backup everything as is, it will likely "break" when going backwards.
I'd like to try BETA 6 as well, but, there's even more hesitation as I actually dig car mode (although the music button doesn't work), like moxier, and a few other things that were removed. (Now I've digressed)

OK, that was subtle. Would you happen to have a constructive alternative to restore app settings, MMS/SMS and the like? If TiBu can't restore system data, it's virtually useless.

app settings can be restored by using the batch method on TiBu entitled restore MISSING apps and data NOT apps and system data!
anything in your batch restore that says 2.1 DO NOT restore
USE a different APP for backing up/restoring SMS messages
[BOOKMARKS] Browser 2.2
Accounts
Bluetooth Pairings
Wi-Fi Access Points
[USER DICT]com.android.providers.userdictionary 2.2
[CONTACTS/CALL] Contacts Storage 2.2
[VOICEMAIL] Dialer 2.2
Well, I've successfully restored all of this with no issue (except I don't really believe that my dictionary restored, it just didn't break)
If there was a different APP to restore my SMS/MMS without limitations I'm open for suggestions, why they would choose to make those system files to begin with is beyond my comprehension...
i never restore ANY system data....it only takes a few minutes to change those settings for system apps anyway.
as long as i dont restore ANY system data, i dont get any FC's

set everything up manually. Save your MMS pics to your sdcard. If you have something important in your SMS, forward it to your email...
My comment is not useless, you got an error, posted on here about, and I tell you not to do it because it doesn't work... This is where you should realize something, "HEY, THIS DOESN'T WORK, maybe I should find another way to do it". Seems you didn't get that far, so I have given you an alt route.
If you need a one-click solution for everything and refuse to think outside of the box, you shouldn't be using android. <3 my iPhone4 and iTunes, click backup, click restore, all done. (btw, iPhone4 is my primary phone.)

Mesmerize's Contacts App

If you want the ability to swipe left/right on your contacts from the contacts app to go messaging/direct call then you can try out the Mesmerize's Contacts app. I've tried it out and the Contacts app works on the Fascinate and has the missing Swiping features.
Attached is a .rar containing "Contacts.apk" and "Contacts.odex" directly from the Mesmerize System Dump for those as well as a "Contacts.apk" that I deodexed and zipaligned in a folder in the .rar.
*Edit: According to Flipsoul, the .odex version doesn't work, so stick with the deodexed one in the folder, if you are still using an odexed system, rename or remove the Contacts.odex to get the app to work.
I take no responsibility for any damage you may do your phone, and enjoy the app.
Awesome, thanks. I liked that on the vibrant. Is the browser usable?

Not to bubble burst but that's built into the Fascinate out of the box too. Some of you guys running clean ROM's et al might have lost this but it was there and still is if you didnt get rid of it
Nope, I've never flashed any ROM over my /system other than to update to DI01, my /system apps are stock, only mods I've done is deodex/zipalign it myself, and I never had the swipe to Call/Message before. So unless DIO1 removed that functionality, I'm confident to say I never had the feature until I applied the Mesmerize Contacts.apk
Saps, maybe you meant swiping from the text messenging app and from phone, because yes I've always been able to swipe from those, but never Contacts app.
I just got my fascinate and all I have done is root it. Still using stock rom and I DO have that functionality, I can swipe left/right and get the message call stuff, just tried it

I have deodexed my system and have the stock fascinate contacts app and mine swipes left and right.
There are swipe options for both versions, but it doesn't work the same. On the stock fascinate version swiping gives you the OPTION to place a call or send a message. On the mesmerize version, swiping takes you directly into that action without asking.

I was getting into bootloops when trying to install the odex version.
After deodexing my system, the deodexed version went loaded everything fine.
EDIT:
Did some more research on odex/deodex (still just tinkering)
Someone else try to confirm it does/doesn't work. for the odex files.
It might actually have been fine if I knew how to clear the dalvik cache before.
>.<
EDIT2: I'll try going back, and testing again tomorrow when I have time.
Does the Dialer work as well? A non-Verizonized voicemail button would be nice.

Sadly, no don't think the Dialer works, or at least I can't get it to.
Hmm.
Went back and reloaded my odex system and tried installing the odex versions, rebooted into CWM, wipe data/dalvik_cache, and still wouldn't boot.
Hmm.
ughhh.. i need this to work!!
The deodexed apk should work on any system as long as you rename/delete the old odex.
Suggest you take a back-up first.
I had originally tried the odex file to see if it would work....
But from what I've learned it doesn't seems like using an odex from any other system wouldn't do you much good.

That's OK, the Google Voice-voicemail Dialer mod is a perfect match.
edit: nevermind
So I've been using this and REALLY REALLY like the simplicity of swiping to call/text.
Does anyone know of a recent dialed calls app that lets me do the same, there as well?
Being a recent first time smartphone user, I somehow can't get over the fact that these phones don't have a dedicated 'dial' button. All feature phones that I've ever owned had a green button that I could press once to get into the dialer/recent dialed list and immediately press again to call that number. Currently, it takes just too much work to go hit the contacts button, then the to select a contact and THEN to dial/text.
bump ? ? ?
ok how would i go about installing this? downloaded the .rar now what....

[Q] Looking for Stock XXJPO Touchwiz MMS .apk AND .odex files

The long and short of this story is that I made a mistake and deleted the stock Touchwiz .odex file of my MMS app. (This was in an attempt to use the AOSP MMS app, which did indeed install.) This AOSP app however, did not come with a .odex file (I thought nothing of this at the time, and everything seemed fine until I went to send a message. Now, when I hit send, the app force closes and won't send the message. ( I can still recieve things though, and chompSMS will allow me to send SMS, but not MMS.) I really don't want to have to re-flash the whole ROM, because I have done a great deal of customization. Is there anyone out there who could, by chance, give me the .apk and .odex from their ROM? I have looked all over for this, and have come up dry. Thanks again!

[Q] Modify SMS app?

Hello,
I'm currently running Darkyy's v7.5 on my SGS. I don't really like sms/mms app that's included, because of the white colors.
I know that darkyy has planned to go back to original sms app in v7.6.
But besides the colors the sms app seems very cool to me, not showing these bubbles in conversation and some other things
I'm not very well versed in modifying apps with apktool and eclipse, but I wonder if it's possible to just customize the colors of the app?
Think I already found the right color-tags but after baksmaling, changing them, smaling and signing, I get FCs everytime I try to run the app. Also I can only replace the original with root explorer, cause I don't know how to rename the package, cause ecplise just gives me a lot of errors.
Andybody suggestions or solutions?

Search and read the thread on how to morph DOC's ROM to your like-abilities.
Yea docs has a black/grey modded sms app in it...not the samsung version but the AOSP one
Sent from my Captivate
you might want to take a look at the mms.apk of the cyanogen rom , it's same as stock , but there is a black theme included , you can also change the font size.
or you can go with go sms for example , which is very nice
Old SMS app on my Darky's 7.5.
1) Insall "Root manager" app
2) Go to root/system/app
3) Tap on "Mount R/W" in top of the window ##for premitions
4) Delete the Mms.apk
5) Copy attached Mms.apk root/system/app
If you ever will wont to go back to (IMHO) very nice sms app.
Thanks for your suggestions!
I managed to get back to the samsung sms app.
The apps from Doc's rom I found had the same white colors, I could find a dark one. Doc's rom 6.2 only includes the stock app.
But for now, I'm pleased to have the samsung sms app back again.
Anyway, if someone has a link to a dark aosp sms app, feel free to post
