[Q] Looking for Stock XXJPO Touchwiz MMS .apk AND .odex files - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The long and short of this story is that I made a mistake and deleted the stock Touchwiz .odex file of my MMS app. (This was in an attempt to use the AOSP MMS app, which did indeed install.) This AOSP app however, did not come with a .odex file (I thought nothing of this at the time, and everything seemed fine until I went to send a message. Now, when I hit send, the app force closes and won't send the message. ( I can still recieve things though, and chompSMS will allow me to send SMS, but not MMS.) I really don't want to have to re-flash the whole ROM, because I have done a great deal of customization. Is there anyone out there who could, by chance, give me the .apk and .odex from their ROM? I have looked all over for this, and have come up dry. Thanks again!

MMS.apk help

Hey guys!
So I am using Fresh 2.0d and love it! But I am having one slight issue that would make it amazing for me. I use SlidescreenPro as my home screen replacement. When using it with SenseUI roms such as Fresh 2.0d, the stock HTC messaging app is overriding the ability to set Chompsms as my main app in Slidescreen. To prove it, I deleted mms.apk, and while it did set chompsms as my main sms app on the homescreen, it removed my ability to receive incoming messages. Does anyone have an mms.apk that will be the vanilla android sms/mms app that will work with the Fresh 2.0d ROM?
bumping to the top!
Bumped to the top. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Did you do a nandroid backup before you started erasing apks?
Yes i did, so I do have something to fall back on. But I would need to find an mms.apk with the vanilla android messenger app. Could i take it from an asop build and that should work with fresh 2.0d?
I think i figured it all out. I unziped a ROM in which the featured worked, copied the Mms.apk, deleted the current mms.apk, and pushed the working one. Seems to be working alright.

[Q] Modify SMS app?

Hello,
I'm currently running Darkyy's v7.5 on my SGS. I don't really like sms/mms app that's included, because of the white colors.
I know that darkyy has planned to go back to original sms app in v7.6.
But besides the colors the sms app seems very cool to me, not showing these bubbles in conversation and some other things
I'm not very well versed in modifying apps with apktool and eclipse, but I wonder if it's possible to just customize the colors of the app?
Think I already found the right color-tags but after baksmaling, changing them, smaling and signing, I get FCs everytime I try to run the app. Also I can only replace the original with root explorer, cause I don't know how to rename the package, cause ecplise just gives me a lot of errors.
Andybody suggestions or solutions?

Search and read the thread on how to morph DOC's ROM to your like-abilities.
Yea docs has a black/grey modded sms app in it...not the samsung version but the AOSP one
Sent from my Captivate
you might want to take a look at the mms.apk of the cyanogen rom , it's same as stock , but there is a black theme included , you can also change the font size.
or you can go with go sms for example , which is very nice
Old SMS app on my Darky's 7.5.
1) Insall "Root manager" app
2) Go to root/system/app
3) Tap on "Mount R/W" in top of the window ##for premitions
4) Delete the Mms.apk
5) Copy attached Mms.apk root/system/app
If you ever will wont to go back to (IMHO) very nice sms app.
Thanks for your suggestions!
I managed to get back to the samsung sms app.
The apps from Doc's rom I found had the same white colors, I could find a dark one. Doc's rom 6.2 only includes the stock app.
But for now, I'm pleased to have the samsung sms app back again.
Anyway, if someone has a link to a dark aosp sms app, feel free to post

[Q] Anyone have stock DL30 messaging app?

Hi,
Running DL30 Super Clean 1.0 with DJ05 Radio.
I was having weird issues sending MMS and decided to try to reinstall the messaging app from ROM manager under jt1134's section. Bad idea - it opens and I can read my messages - but after sending one (either SMS or MMS), the app FC's. Can someone please post just the new messaging app from DL30 for me?
Also, is anyone else having trouble with MMS after upgrading to DL30, using this radio? SMS was working fine, and I could send photos just fine - but long plain text messages (those that were long enough to have the phone convert them to MMS) were not received properly (at least on non-smartphones).
I did wipe data/cache and dalvik cache in the upgrade process.
The only thing I can think of is that after upgrading to DL30, I restored "SMS/MMS prefs". This resulted in my old text messages becoming available (I hadn't backed them up prior to DL30), but wonder if perhaps something didn't play nice with the new messaging app for DL30.
Anyway, I don't really care about my old messages anymore, just want new SMS and MMS to work.
Thanks in advance,
JB
You've got the stock messaging app and you just don't know it. Unzip the superclean zip on your computer, navigate to system/app (of the unzipped superclean, on your computer) and pull messaging.apk out of there. throw it on your sdcard, then copy/paste it from your sdcard to system/app on your fascinate. Then reboot.
Voila, stock messaging app back where it should be.
Thanks! Total brain fart, should've known this.
Very cool except I do not see that apk anywhere in the superclean zip.
You're right, there's no particular "messaging.apk" in system/app.....try "mms.apk" ? Just a guess...i know sms and mms are different, but it might work?

Didn't mean to hit thanks for the above poster, but oh well. He is correct. mms.apk is what you are looking for.

[Q] Unable to remove Mms.apk/Mms.odex

I don't know if anyone else is seeing this, or if it is just me. Prior to 4.4.4, I could remove Mms.apk/odex and have no issues. I didn't care as I used Hangouts for SMS/MMS, so I wanted it gone to clean up the app drawer. On 4.4.4, if I remove Mms.apk/odex, Hangouts will FC if I try to send a SMS/MMS message. It is still fine for a hangouts message though. Restore the app, and no problems. Is anyone else seeing this? I'd like to get rid of the app, but it appears I may not be able too.
Try just freezing it with titanium backup?
But if same issue, then perhaps hangouts now relies on it. Just hide it from app drawer if your launcher supports it...or else you'll have to live with it.

I read reports of this same exact thing happening on 4.4.2 also. KJ's suggestion was the solution for those users as well. I'm curious why you didn't experience the issue on 4.4.2 though, when others did...
Not sure why it worked on 4.4.2, or why it isn't working on 4.4.4. If I can't remove it, then I'll just hack the APK to get rid of it from the launcher menu, but leave it installed. Annoying, but it may be the only way around it as I don't feel like installing TiBu just to freeze the app.
And, it is now "fixed" :good: Replace the Mms.apk/Mms.odex with the one that is attached, and it will keep the app on the phone, but out of the app drawer. I deodexed the file, removed the launcher property from the AndroidManifest and then resigned the app. Once you put it in place, reboot and you'll be good to go. You may need to set the permissions on the file, if you do, you want 0644. Enjoy.
I also noticed that on 4.4.4 you can't disable MMS like you could in 4.4.2 I'm not sure why they thought that it would need to be kept. It could be a thing to do with making sure that people at least have Motorola's MMS on their phone. Maybe it is for Motorola Connect reasons.
