I have to say although it's simple, many people overlook this. They over think and then create a thread here on xda and post in bold "OMG I LOST 3G PLEASE HELP!!!!
So I say thanks for this and hopefully users will be more aware of the plain and simple apn settings.
Cheers

did you create the APN settings?
it doesn't get sent, it doesn't program itself automatically
you need to make it yourself
Yeah I got the settings as a configuration message and it installed the vodafone settings but it won't show the upload download arrows anymore.

here is one easy way to confirm if the settings work
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8124344&postcount=45
install the APN on/off switch
then set it to ON, tried turning it off/on/off/on see if it works
you can also try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=789039&highlight=*#0011#
it should show if you are connected or not to any of those bands

what does it say, what information?
hi there. anyone successfully fixed this? for two days now I cannot get any 3g signal. it just stopped working at some point. thinking it must've been an app or something, i did a complete reflash of the XWJPA firmware. that unfortunately did not help at all.
apn is CORRECT, data network is enabled, no 3g....
edit: btw, this is on 3 network in reading, uk.
edit 2: disregard my post, the problem was the borked sim card. all is well now.

XXjvo mobile data problem?

Today i flashed my gti9000m to 2.3.3 successfully with oden but for some reason my phone can not pick up my mobile data/3G signal even when i set it on, i am with virgin mobile canada
Any suggestions for a fix?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
carrier settings
you will need to ring virgin andget the mobile data carrier settings for your service on your phone. These settings are in settings>wireless and networks>mobile networks>access points.
In there, should be the specific settings for the carrier ie. virgin.
Without these settings you will not be able to browse the net on your phone or send receive sms or mms. Hope this helps.
Hey thanks for the access points advice I just used the find access points on the APN settings abduction it worked perfectly!
thanks again!

Don't forget to flash a modem that supports the 850MHz band KC1 is great.

JVO does support WCDMA850 by default.

Thing is there is a fix for data and roaming issues on NA networks the KC1 modem has that you probably should be using. That being said... I've used them both side by side and you'll get longer battery life with JVO. So its a trade off

[Q] Galaxy Mini (no 3G)

Hi Everyone,
I hope this is the right forum for the question, I've got my wife's Mini that I've flashed with TJ's Cyanogen release, everything went through just fine, and the phone is running much better then it was, the only problem is that I cant seem to get it to connect to the network via 3G, it will only connect via EDGE.
I'd appreciate any pointers in how to get this to work properly.
The phone was bought in Serbia, and was tested there with 3G, worked flawlessly, we reside in Canada and are on the Rogers network.
I've tried various network options via *#*#4636#*#* to no avail, it will only sync on EDGE.
Attached is the radio log from the device:

Many thanks in advance,

i don't have that problem..
maybe you checked the "use only 2G networks" in settings-wireless&network settings-mobile network-uncheck use only 2G networks
nope, the 'use only 2G networks' is not ticked on.
Is there anything that I can force the phone to try and connect to 3G?

[Q] UMTS/EDGE Question

I have a problem with my Galaxy Mini. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there is only ONE version of the Galaxy Mini just different firmware, correct? Here's my problem, my phone is stuck on EDGE when its supposed to be on UMTS.. My GF and I both have the same phone, when I put my SIM in her phone I automatically get "H" and I rarely see "3G" (which is good). But when I put the SIM in my phone I ONLY get EDGE "E". Hers is from my countrys carrier and I got mine locally from a retailer unlocked (European Version). This is why I'm confused, if both phones are the same specs and everything why cant I get 3G/UMTS? I later found out we had different firmwares so I flashed mine with the same firmware as hers and still have the same problem. Could it be that I need to flash my Phone Modem with another one? (Idk..) All answers appreciated, Im desperate
Check if you don't have "Use only 2G networks" ticked.
Under mobile network connection there exist an option to only use 2g connections.
Take a look at. If the box is checked then unchecked it to use umts connections.
By the way. H connection is better than 3G.

I'd also like the point out that I'm computer savvy, I dont have "2G Network Only" checked
Maybe you can try to enter *#*#4636#*#* in the phone. You will get to Testing menu, choose Phone Information and then scroll down, there's an option like 'set preferred network' down there and you can choose WCDMA Only. Hope it helps...

Tried that, I get no signal at all with that option

Google Talk 4G Problem

I'm not sure if this has been covered yet on this forum, but since we all have 4G phones I thought it would be fair to let you guys know that google talk doesn't work on 4g. As i said i may be late on this (because i haven't been on in a while) but here's what I did.
If using mobile network:
1. Go to Settings/Wireless & Networks/Mobile Networks/System Select/Network Mode/
2. And change your connection to CDMA instead of LTE/CDMA
3. Your phone should reboot and you will be on 3G untill you change it back
I recommend using it over wifi for obvious reasons (its cheaper if you're not unlimited, and maybe quicker)
Also for Wifi no network changes need to be done
Great info, hackn. Thanks!
