Google Talk 4G Problem - LG Revolution

I'm not sure if this has been covered yet on this forum, but since we all have 4G phones I thought it would be fair to let you guys know that google talk doesn't work on 4g. As i said i may be late on this (because i haven't been on in a while) but here's what I did.
If using mobile network:
1. Go to Settings/Wireless & Networks/Mobile Networks/System Select/Network Mode/
2. And change your connection to CDMA instead of LTE/CDMA
3. Your phone should reboot and you will be on 3G untill you change it back
I recommend using it over wifi for obvious reasons (its cheaper if you're not unlimited, and maybe quicker)
Also for Wifi no network changes need to be done

Great info, hackn. Thanks!

Some info about radio updates

Hello friends.
I am a total noob
I have a nexus one phone rooted with stock version of android (it's the lastest version from google, with the multi-touch. just rooted it to install my native language)
there is a problem with the 3G signal in my device. it is terrible comparing to other devices and it sometimes drops to EDGE because of it.
I've heard that radio updates can fix it but
1. I heard it's dangerous and can brick the phone. why?
2. if it really helps - could someone plz direct me to a download link + instructions?
thanks alot everybody

1. Are you sure you have your APN' s correctly typed
2. Uncheck the "use only 2G networks" @ Mobile network settings
3. This might help aswell @ dialpad > *#*#4636#*#* and select "phone information" you will see at the bottom some xtra network configurations , with submenus options too
I dunno if someone else has more advices
Hope you get it to work right !

Welcome to the forum !
Hey friend
first of all, thanks for the answer.
1. I did set the APN correctly but anyways, I don't think it's related, I just got bad reception although i should get a good one.
2. already unchecked. I have a weak 3G signal which i sometimes loose and the device goes to 2G
3. thanks. I just don't know what to do with these options there.
many thanks!

Enter the code he talked about, then choose the WCDMA Only option. You will still get weak signal, but it will keep it from falling back to EDGE.

[Q] HELP UK model with serious signal issues on ATT in the USA

Hi all, well my One arrived from the UK today.. As I feared it does not have the ATT LTE bands that PDAbd.net suggested it had, bummer, but I can live with HSDPA... Set up the phone, it asks me to select the operator I am unsing, with ATT as the first choice... all goes well.. I load it up and initial impressions... WOW.. what a great phone.
BUT and and very BIG BUT.... the signal is terrible... bouncing from no signal to 2 bars and displaying H one minute, 3G the next and then E...
Driving down a notorious road it drops the call at least half a mile before typical and doesn't pick it up again until even later..
Does anyone know if there are any setting I can adjust to optimize to ATT?
I really do not want to put it is back in the box, but unless someone has a suggestion for me, I have no choice...
Help!!
Many thanks,
Nick
A quick question. Where did you get your HTC One? And have you used any other HTC Phones before and got good signal with it?

Hi There,
I bought it in the UK. It was a legitimate HTC supplier and an unlocked model 801n.
I have used a couple HTC phones in the past:
ATT 8X - worked well (at least as far as signal was concerned, but that was the ATT model)
I also had a Verizon Incredible, but since that is a different provider, I am ignoring it.
Other phones I have right now adn tested in the same location with the same SIM:
1. ATT - Galaxy note 2 - good signal no issues
2. ATT LG Optimus G - Good signal no issues
3. ATT Iphone 5 Good signal no issues
4. ATT Nokia 920 - good signal no issues
5. Blackberry Z10 - unbelievably good signal - no issues - Unlocked ATT bands, not ATT branded (Purchased from Expansys USA)
This is why I am wondering whether it is some kind of optimization issue. I cannot believe HTC could have made such a mistake in design. Also, if I switch to GSM only, I have full bars.... It is only on 3G and HSDPA that the signal is poor and the display oscillates between 3G and H
Any advice?
Many thanks,
Nick
Are you rooted? The solution is disabling fast dormancy on HTC One. New HTC devices enables fast dormancy by default which affects & weakens signal strength on networks that doesn't support it yet. If not I am not aware of any ways to disable it without root yet. I'll update you if I find one.
On UK almost all networks do support fast dormancy already except for Three UK so that maybe the reason why it's enabled by default in the US however I am not aware of the implementation of network carriers there sorry.

No I am not rooted - what will I lose if I root it? Do you know of a link to a simple thread with rooting instructions and how to disable the fast dormancy? I am not super experienced with Android yet
Does anyone know whether ATT supports fast dormancy of not?
Also, I have been led to believe that the One supports a number of carrier frequencies, but they only enable those for the specific region it is sold in. Do you know if there is a way to enable the other frequencies? Or is this just an unfounded rumor? Also, do you know if there is a way to check which LTE band the phone I have is equipped with - Not an on-line reference, but a way to find it on the phone?
Many thanks!!
Your warranty if you mess something in the software's side like bricking your phone & OTA updates. But you'll be able to update anyways just by directly flashing on the phone.
Anyways here's a noob proof app to rooting. Please do some research first before going so you'll not mess this up.

And... No. AT&T doesn't support fast dormancy.

Check this regarding what is Fast Dormancy and tell us if it works(probably NOT (it works only to samsung phones) but it is easy to try) http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s2-international/674208-fast-dormancy-in-nutshell.html
"To turn FD on/off enter *#9900# in the dialler to get into the SysDump screen then select the Fast Dormancy option"
You mind sharing the link if they have stock? Good luck with the signal issue.

I had a friend with an international GS2 with the same problem. Constantly bounced from HSPA+ to 3G to EDGE to no signal. I'm 99% sure that the issue is network settings, you likely need to check SIM card, data plan provisioning, APNs, etc.

Hey, thanks - Do you know what settings I should use? I have an LTE provisioned SIM card...I assume that should be ok, since the phone is LTE enabled, just wrong bands? I have tried with Auto LTE on and of - I currently have it on GSM/WCDMA - it has been working better the past day, but it is still not right..
The SIM works perfectly in the Note 2, Optimus G etc. So I am wondering whether I need to look at the APN or something like that, but I do not know what the best settings should be. Anyone have this info?
Many thanks,
Nick

APN shouldn't affect your mobile signal reception. It's just made for cellular data profiling. So you are able to connect to the internet.
How about try setting your network selection mode to manual and just select the top most usable network there?
Interesting... I am in Korea right now and have great signal... no issues at all. However, my data indicator is still bouncing between H and 3G, so that is very strange...
Despite the indicated low signal and bouncing data connection type indicator, the phone is working well, have not dropped a call recently and excellent phone call quality...
NO LTE connection in Korea though.. I assume that is probably due to ATT not having a LTE roaming data service agreement here? I believe my phone has at least one LTE band that it supported here.
Have fun..
Nick
I think u should talk to att people may be they can help? With the signal issue or the data connection issues!

[Q] Can Lumia 928 be used overseas ?

Hello all- I have not found a definitive answer so will post my question here as well. I have a chance to get a Lumia 928 (Verizon) but would like to know if I can use it in New Zealand with my Vodafone SIM. I am not sure if there will be limitations such as maps, etc.. not working.
Cheers for any help, LL13- :victory:
LTE will not work in any country besides the US. Aside from that the 928 shouldn't have any issues with taking a different SIM, as all 928s are SIM unlocked when they shipped from the factory. Before you leave though, I highly recommend you download access point via sysapp pusher in the marketplace/store. Sysapp will check for any and all OEM apps that need updating.

The one warning I would give you with the 928 is that the APN settings are a little messed up, and you may need to play around with it a bit to get them to work. My experience (using the 928 on AT&T and T-Mobile in the US) is that you need to manually set the APN settings, even when Nokia Access Point says that the SIM settings are activated. You can usually get data fine, but MMS's don't work properly if you don't manually set the APN
If possible, avoid doing it with Nokia Access Point, because if you do you will lose the ability to use LTE when you get back on Verizon until you do a hard reset (you can't recover the appropriate Verizon LTE APN settings - it will only connect to CDMA 3g). Now that GDR2 is out, you can seemingly manually set the APN's in the Cellular menu of settings, so try using that first and if it fails, copy the correct APN settings into a new Access Point APN, then manually activate it. This has fixed my issue every time, but again, necessitated a hard reset / wipe of the phone to use on Verizon's LTE network.
Cheers for that information AR...
I can enter those settings manually, I've got them memorised :silly:
Cheers again, LL13- :good:
Wow very confusing topic, I mean the process of finding out whether data/mms will work outside of Verizon US, it seems it can not. Too bad as it's a beauty of a phone.

Its not that quite confusing.
LTE is only good for the country it was released in. The international LTE bandplan is different for every country, none of them match up. For using a CDMA carrier, switching to them will require a SIM (there isn't any way to flash the settings onto the phone yet for those providers who don't yet have LTE without it being official from Nokia) so its kinda a dead end.
If your going to a GSM provider, just insert your SIM and manually add the settings for data and mms. You can use Access Point if you don't intend on using Verizon's LTE.

That makes me a bit more comfortable, cheers for that information thals1992 !!
It seems that the main issue would be with the LTE which would not be a problem since I am not even sure what it is !! I believe it may have to do with 4G or fast download speeds but there is no 4G in my town anyway.
I saw one post on another forum saying that some 928's had no way to add/edit APN settings, etc...
Each post and person seems to have a different experience, but if I can simply get a 3G data connection and normal use I would be happy.
I may just go for it then.

When you travel abroad and use the phone on a GSM carrier you will get data up to HSPA+, unless the carrier happens to share Verizons LTE band. The issue with Verizon LTE after you have used another APN is that Access Point won't deactivate all the APN settings, and since Verizon doesn't have dedicated APN data settings, it doesn't override properly and connect toVZW LTE properly without a hard reset.
The 928 has a CDMA radio as well as a fully unlocked GSM radio

One (M7) doesn't find 4G

My stock One won't find 4G, even when it's right next to my wife's One that's connected to 4G. I've even tried changing the preferred network to LTE only through the 4636 menu and it still doesn't find 4G, or even act like it's attempting to find it.
I haven't tried a factory reset yet, as I was hoping for a better solution first. Any help would be greatly appreciated (not that I have 4G at home yet, or even decent 3G for that matter)

install an app called APN Shortcut, then you can access apn's
also you can try ##72786#, to reset your network to defaults.
My phone won't connect to LTE since the last update pushed to it. When it do it's a very weak signal and won't open anything and switch to 3G. Never had an issue connecting till i updated so i think the latest radio just suck at 4G which is not a good thing as it wasn't too great to begin with when i first got it.

Check the uicc id (the id of the SIM card) on the phone and see if it matches what sprint has listed for it on their website. If it doesn't match, that's the problem and you'll have to call sprint and have them change it to what your phone is. Hopefully that is all that's wrong. Good luck. [emoji106]

Go to activate a device on the sprint website and pretend like your going to swap your phone. Select the phone with the problem and then on the next page it will list your id for that phone.

No LTE?

I apologize in advance if this has been addressed before. I'm running stock-rooted 5.0, stock kernel, and what I think(?) might be the radio for 5.0.1 I'm not sure... APN settings are correct and in the *#*#4636#*#* Phone Info menu I'm using LTE/GSM/CDMA Auto (PRL). Do I need to double check my radio or do something else? I'm on T-Mo with the TRULY Unlimited data plan. Any suggestions?

Are you sure there is no LTE. I believe come of the notification icons are finicky. In other words, on mine someone it will show extremly low service bars but does not affect my phone? or data in any noticable way. Also are you in a bad service area?
What does the top right say? Have you received lte on previous devices being in the same location where you are now?

Radio for 5.0.1 ends with .04R. Do you ever show LTE in settings, see my screenshot. I've got Verizon obviously but with TMo you should get LTE too. If you have another phone stick the sim card in it and see if you get LTE in the other phone. If not could be the sim. Could be bad signal area too. FWIW TMo LTE is band 4 and soon to come band 12.
Wow. Thanks all for responses. @vvveith I am in an excellent service area LTE for miles! @zephiK Yes I used data over LTE on my Nexus 5 just fine. @jawmail Yes my radio ends with .04R. Sadly I do not have another phone nor SIM card adaptor to try your method with. Would the newer radio make my data signal fluctuate b/w 3G, H, and LTE? I understand that this is a different phone but I swapped radios on the Nexus4/5 all the time and it never hurt anything.

1) Did you get LTE on the 5.0 Radio?
2) Try setting it to LTE/GSM auto (PRL) instead
3) When you say APN is correct. Which one are you using / looking for? Ensure it is T-Mobile 4G LTE IPv6 (if its already on IPv6 try IPv4)
If worst comes to worst, go to the T-Mobile store and get a free SIM card replacement, if they don't want to give you a free SIM. Give them a call, it'll take a couple days to arrive but T-Mo employees are quite nice about giving SIM cards. Especially since you paid for a N6 which is expensive.

1.)Yes i did and it was much more reliable.
2.)Overnight I switched b/w those two settings and kept getting the same result.
3.)I switched the APN to IPV4/6 and that seemed(?) to have solved it.
This has been going on for a couple days so I might see if I can get a new SIM.

You had it right, its under more > cellular > access point names (APN), then select your carrier.

For the rom I am on I don't see under cellular the option for APN. Do I have to be back to factory to see it.
