[Q] Android Lock Screen? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to modify the Android lock screen? I am currently using WidgetLocker, but I would like to customize the lock screen that is the default.
I am currently using:
GingerborgMod v 9.1.4
2.2.1
GT-I9000
Any other info you need, let me know.
Thanks in advance.

Modify how?

In order to modify the lock screen you would need to be able to modify the policies.jar file - but what are you trying to modify? Just change the existing lock screen with another one?

I would like for the screen to show the weather. I like the original lock screen, but I just want to add other widgets.

I'm taking it that this is not possible?

Only way I know how is with an application called Widget Locker. I hear mixed results from the community - but it will do what you are looking for.
Otherwise... you would have to learn how to program and tear apart the policies.jar and figure out how to tweak it to make it work to add said widgets.

+1 you have to be a dev to modify the policies.jar.

Well you might lose some space on the screen.

i don't mind, the iphone has icons that are that size and it works fine.
You can do this, but it would require you to compile from source. I am not experienced enough to walk you through this. I suggest asking cyanogen or enomther.
why would i have to compile from source? theres no xml to edit to just expand the boundaries?

[REQUEST] Remove the clock!

I really want to get rid of the clock on my status bar. Can anyone help me?
you cant remove it but i think you can make it invisible. however the space that the time takes up will still be there. any reason why you want it removed?

If you have a widget clock like the one on sense then it's redundant to have 2 places where time is shown.

exactly.

Not always, with me having the Cliq and can't change the clock color(yet) We have black themes so we can't see the clock. It didn't bother me since I had Beautiful Widgets at first. But then I realize how annoying it was always switching to the home screen to look at the time if I was in the middle of some task.
of course you can get rid of the clock, you just need to add this line into the statusbar xml file
android:visibility="gone"
that will remove the clock and will remove the space used for it as well, i would recomend you try apk tool on your framework-res.apk
Heres my experience in the past lol, I got rid of my clock, thinking a widget clock and that status bar clock is useless. About a day after, I couldn't help it. Got it back because that widget clock isn't as useful! It looked great at first, but I couldn't just rely on the widget!
Correcct me if im wrong but the lockscreen shows the time correct?

I would just set it up as the main wallpaper. I saw a lot of people wanting lock screen centered wallpapers so when i was working on it i figured why not make one. I too wish i could have two wallpapers one for lock screen and one for the home screens. I have seen some apps that do this. MultiPicture Live Wallpaper is one that i can remember. Ill install the app and redo the picture sizes so they can work for you guys.
OK so install the app -MultiPicture Live Wallpaper-
Go to the setting and check the lock screen option.
Set the lock screen as http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13348576/Android/Xoom/lock.jpg
Then set the home screen wallpaper as http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13348576/Android/Xoom/Wallpaper.jpg
Change the transition to none and BAM you are done.
This is from memory but should be pretty close. If you have any problems let me know and ill redo it on my xoom.
Any wallpaper you find online could necessarily work. I use wallpapers that are 1920px x 1280px and seem to work just fine.

Yes but most of us are picky and want them to be in the right size so they look the best they can.

Lockscreen help

Hey guys I need your help.
So far, I've been wanting something to the equivalent of CM7's lockscreen (because it has no "background" to it.) I want to change my LCD density so the screen is a 'higher' resolution, and the stock Droid 3 lock screen looks like crap when I change the LCD density. No I don't want to use CM7 right now (no offense Hashcode) I love CM7 but I need all my phones features. I would prefer to stick to a base lock screen and not use an add on app (for speed and memory usage.) So if anyone knows a .zip file that will take care of my lock screen, or an app that will replace my lock screen ( not cover it up) I will be very thankful.
Cheers,
Chaotic
just curious as to the point of a "higher density" look outside the native res?

Are you asking what it looks like? I'm assuming you are, so depending on how low you set the density. (lower means higher "resolution" for some reason) I set mine to 190, stock is 240, and everything is crystal clear, no display problems, and the apps and widgets take up less space (more apps per page for me is a plus) I honestly love it, the only problem is the lockscreen background (slider and volume switch) doesn't match up at all.

Haven't tried myself to rise the density. So I'm not sure if it works, but you can try with a third party lock screen, like widgetlocker, lockbot, or agile lock)

Yeah I've tried 2 of those. The only problem with that is those aren't built into the framework of the ROM. I want something that works 24/7, instantly after startup, screen lock, etc. I'll try agile lock as I havent used that yet. Thanks for the suggestions!
On HTC phones, the default lockscreen isn't built in to the framework too, i consider it a plus as you can get back the AOSP lockscreen just uninstalling the apk.

Hmm. Interesting.. Well the best lockscreen replacement app I've found is widgetlocker, because it uses root to actually "replace / remove" the stock lockscreen.

Surely is the one with the best features (eg. you can slide to unlock, or add a flashlight slider) lockbot is slow (at least it was when i tried it), agile is nice if you like the sense stile (and I'm not one of them), btw agile has a nice feature: it overcome one of the most annoying things on the default motorola home (unlike any other launcher app,if you install an alternate launcher you loose the ability to launch it)
how exactly did you change the density?

You can get apps off of the market, I use Rom Toolbox (got it off of the internet because I didn't want to pay) or you could search Density Changer. Theres tons of apps on the market, and don't set your density below 180 (at that point everything is too small to read). I use 190 - 200..
I found where the lockscreen background is located..
On /system/framework/framework-res.apk/res/drawable-hdpi.
Its called zz_moto_lockscreen_sd_door.png
and another with _land.png after "door".
Is there a way to remove this without destroying my phones integrity?
Open it up in Photoshop, GIMP, or any other image editing program that accepts transparent backgrounds. Then all you do is select it all, and erase it.

The only problem with that is the fact that all the files are in the framework-res.apk file. I have no idea how to pull the file out and then put the modified file back in. I was using root explorer to find it..
Edit : Oh and root explorer only has the option to extract the file when I long-press it. No deleting or other options.

Copy the framework-res.apk and paste it in the root of your SD, then put it on your PC and unzip with 7zip. When you're done, Zip it back up and rename from .zip to .apk
Thank you so much! Haha I'm new to android so I have a pretty large learning curve from all the days of hacking my and my friends ipods/iphones.
Sorry, another question, would I have to use ADB shell to push the file back onto my phone, or is it safe to use root explorer to just put the file back into it's place?
Nevermind guys. I just flashed Liberty, and it has all of the stuff that I need. So if the mods want to lock this thread or leave it open for future purposes, its on you. Thanks for everyones help!

Pattern Lock Screen Background

Hey guys,
I love my HTC One but awfully hate the black pattern lock screen.
Is there a Chance to mod it so i can change the wallpaper of the pattern lock screen or perhaps make it transparent?
I tried out the go locker but unfortunately thats not so battery friendly.
I would be very thankful if someone can help me with that.

Yeah, same for the app-draw would be nice.
I tried unpacking the APK for sense but the framework stuff didn't all decompile. I don't fancy re-packing it on the offchance (assuming I found what to change) and bricking my device

it seems that no one knows a solution for this kinda problem
so i have to use go locker again
the app draw transparency you can also get with a launcher like nova launcher
Those lockscreens(pattern, face unlock, pin & password) came with google's default framework. No OEM vendor is allowed to alter those parts of android at all. So request this on google itself.
