From CM7 to official 2.2.2 - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is this possible??
can I directly flash the official 2.2.2 google pack on CM7?
What I want is to receive the official OTA notifications...
Thanks guys

You can flash it, but you will have to do a full wipe and reinstall all your apps and info.

Does the official google pack include hboot, recovery and radio?
I have the new .35 hboot, amon ra 2.2.1 and 5.0.8 radio...

Google pack doesn't include hboot, radio, or anything of the sort, and doesn't have anything to do with receiving OTA notifications (which you can't install anyway - they'll crash your system - so what do you need them for?).
Google pack includes Google APPS.

With Google pack I mean the official ota package/update...if I want to install the official 2.2.2. and to receive ota updates what I have to do?

You mean official ROM.
Please refer to "Unroot/restore" guide, found in Wiki, in my signature.

Thanks.
I don't understand if I have to restore the original N1 firmware (the very first 2.1 build...the one without the native multitouch to be clear).
I don't also understand what to do with the hboot..do I have to downgrade to 0.33 before all the other operations?

If you just want to run the latest stock ROM, the easiest way is to download and install the stock FRF91 image from ROM Manager, and just watch it update to the current version...

You download official FRG33 ROM, don't downgrade anything, just install it through custom recovery, with signature verification turned off. Once you do that, it erases everything, including custom recovery, and you become completely stock - and then you will receive 2 OTAs, which will bring you to FRG83G - which is 2.2.2.
If you really want - you can update to 2.2.1 manually, it's in the guide. And then you'll only get 1 OTA to 2.2.2.

Stock FRG83D [Untouched]

Just a quick question,
I did some searching around the forum and I didn't have any luck so maybe I wasn't searching the correct build or maybe there was a link I missed. I'm just wondering if there is an untouched version of FRG83D available for flashing?
Thanks.

You can extract the stock image for FRG83 from here: http://dl4.htc.com/RomCode/Source_and_Binaries/signed-passion-img-FRG83_0923.zip and then apply the FRG83D update from here http://android.clients.google.com/p...signed-passion-FRG83D-from-FRG83.ecb21b75.zip (via recovery)
You are just trying to get stock FRG83D, right?
If you just want the update...
Kaiba provide the FRG83 to FRG83D update zip. If you're on FRG83, just rename to update.zip, place on root of card, and flash via recovery.
If you're on any other ROM, follow the unroot/restore guide in the wiki...

Tried that.
I am on stock FRG83 using Amon_RA 1.7.0.1 and getting
E: No signature (177 files)
E: Verification Failed
when trying to flash.
(downloaded from the two links above getting the same file and the same results)
Ideas?
Thanks..

Thanks for your reply.
My phone is rooted.
The original poster's question, and my question too, is how do we upgrade a stock, rooted, but otherwise untouched (e.g. not deodexed) N1 from FRG83 to FRG83D.

Agreed. I'm not looking to flash a "stock" rom. Just upgrade my stock FRG83 to 83D.
You need to be using Amon_RA 1.8 or higher (or the latest ClockworkMod) to flash a Google-signed updated. Any earlier version and you will get a signature verification fail.
Download the FRG83->FRG83D stock update.
Install Amon_RA's 2.0.0 recovery.
Turn off signature verification in the recovery.
Flash the stock update.
You might not retain root. If you're unrooted - reboot to recovery and flash superboot. If you lose the recovery too - then root again using SuperOneClick or whatever.
Thread of 2 pages... Can't believe it.
Thanks efrant, Jack_R1.
Will try soon.

Where were you till now? ;-)
All done. Now on FRG83D.
Lost root, lost recovery + had to get rid of /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
Wasn't too bad, but a full stock rooted rom would be easier.
Thanks again..
Yeah I lost Wifi so its alright.. jk.

I thought it was odd how there was no clear answer till you came.
I did what you said, i have Amon's 2.0 recovery installed, disabled verification, and tried to flash the zip. I got a Status 7 error, assert failed: apply_patch_check
I also got errors with Amon-Ra 1.8.0 installed.
FRG83 produced errors because i deletet some stock apps like browser.apk. I found here a modified update.zip and could update.
This time with the org. FRG83D update.zip i get the same error. But i cant find a modified zip here....
Can someone help or missed i a thread with the modified zip?

Are you running a stock ROM? Is it deodexed? Did you delete any apps? If you are trying to flash the original signed update, for it to flash, you need to be running a stock, odexed ROM with all the original apps still present.

[Q] Flash to Stock Rom?

Okay, I'm relatively new to Android phones in general, but recently purchased a captivate and absolutely love it. I upgraded to the unofficial leaked version of froyo and am now wanting to try out a custom rom. The issue I'm having is as follows:
I've read that before flashing a custom rom, it is recommended to flash back to the stock rom first. When I tried that, I flashed back to the stock rom (pre OTA update that fixed the 3 buttom recovery mode issue) and was not able to get into recovery mode. I then tried to do the ota update and it kept failing. I then flashed back to the leaked froyo rom via download mode and am basically stuck here. My question is two fold. Does anyone have a link to the stock rom file that has the latest update (I forget the version number) or can I just flash to a new custom rom from the leaked froyo build? Would that build be considered stock?

Don't flash back to stock unless absolutely necessary. Otherwise, it's pointless and just creates additional opportunities for things to mess up and brick your phone. Wiping your data and cache partitions with CWM recovery should be sufficient for a clean ROM install.
As for the stock ROM you're looking for, it depends on your Captivate. If your phone came with JF6 and working button combos, and is an older build (1009 or older), this should work fine: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
If your button combos were disabled, either use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818439 -OR- the first link followed by installing the OTA update (be careful, as an incomplete OTA update can perma-brick your phone).
If your phone is a build 1010 or came with JH7, the stock ROM you need is JH2. Follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10056254&postcount=36

[Q] Stock rom restore and OTA update

I would like to restore the stock state of my Nexus one.
I bought yesterday and it is rooted and have cyanogen mod.
But as far as i know there is a 2.3.4 factory rom trough OTA and i would like to try that one too.
If someone already find the way to do this, please link here.
thanks in advance
Read the wiki. Read it again. Use search feature on the forum....
It is on the wiki, here's the link:

Stock 2.3.4 flashable zip? Anyone have?

Hey,
I want to revert back to stock 2.3.4 but I want to keep root and clockwork etc, so anyone know where I can get a stock 2.3.4 flashable zip?
Right now I am on CM7 latest
Thanks
i found this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061648
if i download this rom from the thread:
GRJ22 OTA (stock vanilla - odexed, unrooted):
http://www.mediafire.com/?shsmauak48b8hc4
MD5: 3B2B7B0BAAAA803365A573FC3864A150
is that the original stock 2.3.4?
anyone?........
The mediafire one is linked to a stock 2.3.4 that is deodexed that is still unrooted. If you want to read up on what deodexed means, check out this article.
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/what-is-odex-and-deodex-in-android-complete-guide/
You will still need to root this ROM.
In the thread, the top link is "stock" 2.3.4 but rooted and deodexed (along with the other things he mentions in the thread).
Basically, you have two options. Use PASSIMG to get your phone back to stock and update to 2.3.4. Then, if your bootloader is unlocked, you can flash a custom recovery and flash one of the many su.zip files out there that give you root access. This will truely be a rooted stock 2.3.4 install. If you want the easier route, use the link in the thread you referenced above.
I built one about a month ago for someone who wanted the same thing, but I'm struggling to find it...
EDIT: I've just thrown something together, if you still need it? Basically, I removed the stock recovery from the GRI40 and GRJ22 updates, so that you can flash them without losing recovery. You can then flash the su zip, and you will be updated, with root...
Tested, and it works...
The OTAs were just updates (about 5mb) from previous versions so there is not stock full system zip. You would probably need to flash stock 2.3.3 then you can flash the 2.3.4 update. Now there is also a 2.3.6 update that is flashed from 2.3.4.

Danger-rat,
please can you upload it.
I currently have 2.3.3 rooted somehow :S and it keeps FC sometimes and the default music app cant read my songs... but rootexplorer can. So i want to get a clean rom see if it all works. and ofc keep recovery.
As noted in the thread, this is something I've just thrown together. It's basically the full GRI40 update, and the GRJ22 update patch with the stock recovery and recovery restore scripts removed from both- this means your custom recovery will not be over written.
Backup your apps (Titanium, or whatever)
Boot into recovery.
Make a backup of your current ROM
Do a full wipe
Flash GRI40
Flash GRJ22
Flash the su zip
Reboot
Restore your apps...

but as long as i get back i hope its ok

[Q] OTA / KIES update custom kernel?

Hi guys
Wonder if you can help me.
So have a custom kernel running, but stock ICS.
If I were to get an OTA / Kies update, what would happen to the custom kernel? After the update, would I get stock kernel?
Also, I presume I would also lose root, and would have to re-root (or could I just use OTA Rootkeeper).
Thanks!
your update will fail upon install cause you aren't running all same components of same version rom. Try it at own risk. Even having different modem makes update fail. At least for me
Change kernel back to rom version and update will succeed. Then put custom back.
Ota and you dont have to loose root. Kies then you must be unrooted.

well... just sharing....
i was on 4.0.3 ICS stock with speedmod v11... then i got the update for 4.0.4 via kies and i was able to install the update successfully. the kernel when back to the stock one and all the stock apps came back... and i lost root as well.
cool, It always failed with me. I concluded it wasn't possible. Probably I was wrong.

Hmm, OK, so there is no clarity then!
I guess I could download the firmware from Sammobile and update manually via CWM or Odin in that case?
If I were to do that though, would that be a no wipe?
Try to follow this link (from doc Ketan's thread) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
You can download the firmware on your specific region, use PC Odin (you wont get the triangle mark in anyway)
There are also guides on that thread that might help you out.. Just read and see if it might interest you or not.
P.S. Regarding your initial post. You will lose your Custom kernel when your going to flash /upgrade to the Official Samsung ICS firmware. The kernel will be replace with the kernel package on that ROM. And YES you will lose root upon upgrading it but nothing can't be fix if your going to flash back the custom kernel again (to gain root) and use Triangle Away to reset your binary counter and clear out the yellow triangle on the bootup screen
