looking for SD bootable img of 1.1 - Nook Color General

Perhaps I'm missing it, or perhaps it doesn't exist. I'm looking for an img file of the rooted 1.1 software that can be booted from SD. (I.E. not having to flash the internal memory of the device)
I have found them for Froyo and Honeycomb, but nothing for 1.1. If there isn't one for download, is it possible to take an existing install from the internal memory and move it to the SD? Sorry for the newb questions!
Thanks!

[Q] CM7/14 - Is an external SD-Card expected installed?

Hi,
[EDIT: Yes external SDcard is required for storage in CM7]
I successfully installed CM7/14 recently on internal flash, with Dalingrin's
1'st 3/8/11 OC kernel. It runs pretty well.
One issue I am unclear on and am having problems searching for the answer:
Is an external SDCard expected to be installed for storage?
Some of the applications I am trying to run, for example "ezPDF Reader", fail on
starting saying "Can't access SD Card" and "ROM manager" gives a similar
warning message.
So either:
1. I missed a step somehow in installation, related to remapping external
SDcard to internal memory (the /mnt/emmc partition I assume).
2. Some apps are just broken (perhaps related to compatibility mode?)
3. CM7 (Gingerbread) is assuming an external SDcard is always present?
Thanks in Advance,
Peter
yes after having installed CM7 with the bootable sdcard you will in fact need/want a sdcard in the device while running CM7 so you have storage. That said I would NOT use the sdcard you have setup for installing/flashing ROMs. Otherwise it turns into a pain in the neck if something goes wrong and you need to reflash for some reason.
speaking for myself as I like to play around and flash different stuff all the time I have 4 different sdcards for use in my Nook. One 16Gb setup to boot and run Honeycomb right from the sdcard. I have another for storage ( 32Gb) when I'm running a ROM that is installed on the eMMC. The other 2 cards are bootable sdcards for installing and backing up. One is setup for ext4 like what is used on CM7, the other I have is also bootable but has CWR 3.0.0.5 for ROMS that DO NOT use ext4 and only use ex2/ext3.

Confused about SD card, partitions, running off SD card etc...

Hey guys. I'm a noob to the nook. Got mine yesterday and flashed nookie froyo 0.6.8. Flashed auto nooter 3.0 before that (not sure that was necessary, but I did it anyway - Was it necessary?)
I digress... I'm confused about the sd card and from what I've read in the forum, it's still not clear to me. So here are my questions and I apologize if they were answered elsewhere. If someone could link a post that might be helpful that would be great!
1. Which roms run off the external sd card?
2. Is it better to run off the external sd card?
3. I'm using an 8 gig class 10 card, but only 1.78 is accessible and and less than 500 mb of open space is left.
4. NookcolorUMS is confusing. I've tried mounting all partitions and cant access the extra space. And yes I did format it after flashing so it's allocated using FAT32.
Any help or direction to helpful posts would be really greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

1. I think CM7, NookieFroyo, and the HC build have all been made to run off the SD.
2. I don't think so; it does give you the nice "sandbox" feel that you can't screw anything up though. It is MUCH faster to run off the internal memory; and with the multi boot ability in my opinion there really is no reason to run off an SD card.
3. I'd look at the card in some type of partition manager; there may be some partitions that can not be seen otherwise. Have you already flashed a rom to the card?
4. Not sure.

I flashed the image to the external sd card. It put the boot image after flashing on the card. I just reformatted the card and can now see it in the nook.
New questions.
1. Is there a way to create a nandroid back up?
2. How do I get to clockwork recovery without using the image on the sd card?
Maybe more questions later.
Thanks!

Multi-boot ability? I still have so much to learn. Is it basically a matter of rearranging the partitions on the internal storage? Would the best link be http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959461
?
Can the primary partition continue to boot stock unrooted Nook ROM?
* Go to the parallel Development Forum to find threads on:
- Multi-boot (very simple to install)
and
- SD card booting versions of CM7, Honeycomb and Froyo
* Within the thread of each of those three, you will find instructions for adjusting things (installing missing capabilities, partitions, etc).
* Download Free Easeus Partition Manager (sp?) to extend 4th partition while looking at SD card in Windows, this will give Android's /sdcard folder the rest of your card. Then Download Free Notepad++ (linux file format text editor) to edit a file as described in those threads. See threads for more details.
* Download Free Win 32 Disk Imager to backup SD card in Windows ("read" backs up card, "write" burns an image to card, the latter is how you create bootable ROM on SD card).

Is Phiremod a bootable SD?

I am thinking of going with the new phiremod, but I'm curious if it boots from SD card or internal. I have nookie froyo on sd right now but like running stock rooted for the stock reader. I'd like to be able to switch between both as I do with nookie.
"Installation for V5:
- Flash with the latest ClockworkMod Recovery for nook from Rom Manager
- Unzip and copy all contents of "phiremod-V5.tar.gz" to the root of your SD
- Place SD in nook and power on
- Format SYSTEM and then DATA
- Flash phiremod
- Once complete, remove SD card and reboot"

Its Internal
Is this possible?
Q: IS THERE AN SD-ONLY "BOOTABLE" VERSION?
A: Not from the nighty builds. However-- should someone want to create such a bootable SD-- (warning: Slightly technical answer all it would take to create one is a new uRamdisk file with the partitions in init.encore.rc pointing to the correct partitions on the SD card.

From here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=960542
There is an SD boot version of CM7 from about a week ago in the NC Development Forum.
If you read the thread, there are instructions for installing the Market and Gapps, and for extending the /sdcard partition to include the full size of your card.
You can then install all the same things as phiremod did, if you like, or just do your own customizations.
It has ADW installed, and the ADW and CM7 settings that are included cover a lot of the ground that previously required a whole bunch of utility apps...
PS It also include Bluetooth.

[Q] Is it possible to install a custom rom (e.g ROCKET ROM) without a SD card?

Sorry for a real n00b question but is it possible to install a custom rom (e.g. ROCKET ROM) on my Galaxy Note without a SD Card?
If it is, can someone please provide me with a link to a how-to/step-by-step explanation?`
Many thanks in advance!!
I think no unless you use Odin software and plug your phone to the computer while in download mode. Although roms for Odin and CWM are in different formats and not compatible with each other.
However, I heard that if you flash third party (non-stock) firmware to your phone using Odin, it will add to the flash counts, which will make your phone lose warranty (if your Note even have warranty when you imported it).
Maybe there is a way to do update through adb, but I do not know.
Also I forgot, you can install rom from internal storage using CWM Manager app.
You can use the phone's internal memory to store the ROM to be flashed. Don't really need to put it on the microSD card. Make sure you are rooted and have clockwork installed.

I'm already rooted and have CWM Manager 3.0 installed.
I also did a backup yesterday (I will do a new backup before flashing), but since the backup is on the internal memory, can I restore to the original stock rom if I don't like the ROCKET ROM for some reason?
Or will the internal memory be wiped clean if I flash the ROCKET ROM to my Galaxy Note?
Many thanks for the help!
That's fine, and you don't need to worry about internal storage being wiped. Your 16GB (or 32GB) shows up in the system as SD card. If you add a physical microSD card that will be listed as external SD. A bit confusing I know, but that 16/32GB is partitioned separately from the phones main memory (~2GB). When you flash a ROM its only the 2GB partition that gets overwritten, nothing happens to your SD card and external SD card memory.

[Q] Nook HD+, Upgrading from Jellybean to KitKat?

Hello,
I'm currently running my Nook HD+ on Jellybean, using one of verygreen's boots.
(NookHDplus-verygreen-New-SD-add-bokbokan-Cyanoboot-rev0-(06.01.13) to be exact)
I'm wanting to upgrade to KitKat, because a few reviews say it provides a better experience.
So I followed the instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2602796
It's all very familiar, and is pretty much the same exact process as I followed when I successfully did the verygreen boot above.
I've got everything loaded onto my 8GB SanDisk SD Card, it's in my Nook HD+, and I'm ready to go.
At least, that's what I thought.
I seem to be having this issue where it's not able to find my SD Card.
When I load cyanoboot universal bootloader, CWM only gives me the options to install zips from /sdcard.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but /sdcard is classified as the internal "sd card"; and the thing I'm wanting is ext_sdcard, right?
So the question is, how do I point my device in the direction of the external SD Card, so it can boot from it?
Not sure if this helps, but when I spring my SD Card out and back in, it returns the following:
/storage/ext_sdcard: Idle-Unmounted
/storage/ext_sdcard: Checking
/storage/ext_sdcard: Idle-Unmounted
I could be wrong; as I'm no programmer, or by any means a developer, but this sounds like it's recognizing the drive, but unmounting it immediately after recognition.
Thanks in advance,
Vahn
I'm definitely no expert, but looking at the link you provided, step 6 says to copy the files to the INTERNAL SD (internal memory) as the current CWM can only read the internal SD. So it seems you boot from the external SD card, but you need the files on the internal memory for it to find them?
Update:
Fixed it myself.
I just had to completely re-format the SD Card, and drag/drop the ZIP files (CWM-Recovery-Ovation, CM-11, and PA_GAPPS).
Then I restarted the Nook WITHOUT THE SD CARD, and it started recognizing external_sd.
I put the SD Card in, mounted it, loaded the zips from external, and it worked like a charm.
Since your HD+ already had CM10.x on EMMC, there is a simpler process that does not require use of an external SD card: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nook-hd/general/how-to-updating-hd-hd-internal-emmc-to-t2863171.
