I am also looking for a replacement back panel housing, recently dropped mine to tarmac and got scratches all over...

You can order the back place directly from dell for about $30.
Just got my red one and I have to say after owning a black one the colors are #$%t
Looks like someone sprayed it on
Red color
Yes, and if it isn't sprayed on from the beginning you probably have to do it yourself after a while. My red one has started to flake. A little problen compared to all the others I have had before I found out I had to replace the 2gb internal internal sd-card.
As bad as they may be, is there a link to where exactly at Dell I can order one from?

I'm just gonna take off the back housing and paint my own. I've done it with notebooks, like this dell (1/4 down website)
Dell XPS painted
Does Dell or any other vender sell the housing that attached to the screen?
Not the battery door.

Has anyone tried this? If so, how hard was it to put on and how did it look, fit etc.
I ordered a face-plate from Hong Kong
http://www.acceport.com/oem-original-dell-streak-mini-5-housing-faceplate-cover-shell-rear-back-battery-housing-cover-replacement-black.html
and it it took well over two months before I finally got it. It showed up yesterday. It got hung up in Customs. They refunded me after 30 days, now I got to pay them $26 (including shipping) again. I'll install it tomorrow and make a post on it.

What happened to yours? Probably the same wear as some where the small L shaped latches finally break away? Would be helpful to have an extra back cover handy. Does yours at least stay shut so the phone stays on?
Fortunately it stays, but it is not easy to change battery!!

Someone posted on this site that its $30 from dell.com but would be nice locating a better deal elsewhere.
Gotcha!
For those who havent found a replacement yet, I've found a few on ebay from Honk Kong for £17.99, free P&P... Search 'battery door cover fix dell streak'. Obviously, unless someones managed to find a better deal..
There are covers listed on eBay, but you might want to check out this replacement battery. It isn't much more than the cover by itself and you get a new battery.

Hi guys,
Just got my hands on a quite used N1 from my friend, and is thinking of replacing the full housing.
After looking at pictures on eBay and subsequently asking the sellers, I found that many of the housings on sale are fully plastic. I aware that the front frame of the N1 is metal, so I would like to ask you guys if you know anywhere (eBay or elsewhere) that sells the metal housing for a reasonable price?
Cheers

I saw a set of housings for sale on Amazon. You might wanna check it out
Sent from my Nexus One
Thanks! But the one that appears at the top of the list shares the exact same photo as the one I inquired on eBay, which the seller said its made of "plastic-like synthetic material" the real metal ones that I found are either refurbished or carries an exorbital price (USD40+ for the front frame alone).

I have a at&t nexus one that I was going to sell body is in good shape ill do 60 shipped has desktop dock? Let meknow

That's a really good deal, I paid around $110 for a beat up one with dock, but that was 7+ months ago with 2 batteries, all accessories and box, still working perfect and its working great to this day. I'd like to get a replacement housing to paint flat black but I'm scared to take it apart.
Thanks for the offer, I really wants to get it, but I live a bit too far away, in New Zealand which might be hard for you to ship to. Guess I'll have to live with cheap plastic knockoffs...

Have you cracked the screen already? Replacing the screen is not as easy on this phone as it might be with others..... You might just want to replace the phone itself.

I looked at the ifixit teardown before I got the phone and immediately ordered several cases for when it arrived

I hadn't seen that teardown before. I had already assumed it would be a nightmare but I really wouldn't like to attempt any repair after seeing that. Actually I wouldn't even consider it. You'll be left with a damaged bezel.
You're better off paying to send it back to HTC.
I'm pleased I have mine in a good flip case.
As far as obtaining a new screen, you'll be very lucky if you can find one and it will probably cost as much to buy as sending it for repair. Even if you did find one it probably wouldn't be oem. No one wants to pay a load of money for non oem.

It's all aboout insurance these days.
I could post a tutorial, but it isn't SFW and involves bending over and lube.
Good luck. I'm sure iFixit screwed up their teardown by not looking for screws, but it's still going to be a painful process for either your brain or wallet.
Ifixit blew it. They literally ripped it apart. There is a correct process to do this, but it is not documented yet. It won't be easy from what I have seen, but it should be doable. Definitely better than a 1/10 rating from ifixit. I'm sure etradesupply.com will post a video once they are stocking the parts.

Basically I've noticed more and more people creating DIY chargers, docks, doing dodgy repairs and such on broken ones and the like.
Why? A genuine Sony charger will only set you back about £3 on Amazon.
I genuinely am curious why people make their own or attempt to repair broken ones.

I agree with you. You buy a new one and you don't have more problems. Why so complicate and repair it? It's more easy to buy once like you say it

a dock is surely more than 3 gbp.
it think they create dyi chargers for the docks charging port in order to avoid having to open the usb-flaps on the side (for a normal usb charger).

No, up in the market near me they have docks for £2.50 upto about £40. Don't get me wrong, the cheap ones are rubbish but it's still a dock. Seems odd, my USB flap fell off yesterday so I don't have that problem lol, and my heaphone flap fell off ages ago.
