[Q] Get rid of keyboard - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I tried to install multiple keyboards on my rogers Captivate, none of them worked. This is fine, I was just experimenting BUT I have a problem. I installed LatinIme as an apk and it shows up as an option in 'locale and text' (under settings). However, every time I select it it crashes and force closes. This is well enough, the question now is how do I remove it? It does not show up in Fast Uninstaller and I can't find it anywhere in my apps to uninstall it.
Thanks!

if you have root explorer, go to \system\app folder and delete the apk.
also when you go to the settings->applications->manage applications, is it in the "all" tab?

Use any option it gives you to uninstall the app, then reinstall it.
Similar issue.
I am having a similar issue.
I installed Toggle Settings (Donut) on my G1 (CM 4.2.5 I'm not using apps2SD) and then decided to uninstall it. Now when I go to the market and my downloads it shows that I have Toggle settings installed. The problem is that I don't and it gives me no options to do anything (open and uninstall are grayed out). Other apps install and uninstall normally with the market updating their status correctly. I don't know what to do to correct this. If you know how to remedy this, please help me.
I apologize if this is an inappropriate place to post this but I serched and this was the closest topic to my problem that I found.
Try finding it in the app-private folder or if its in any of yours apps as a .zip file. If so, back it up and delete it from the phone. see if that resolves the issue. if not try deleting the market cache

Thanks for replying... It's not in any of my other apps and I've tried deleting the market cache (and deleting the market cache and power cycling the phone) and that isn't working. Where is (or should be) the app-private folder? I'm not finding that folder.
I'm starting to feel like my only hope is an update being put out for the app and then hopefully I can download that and go from there.

app-private should be in the same folder as app
Had a similar problem
I wiped my phone and did a frech Cyan 4.2.5 install to help clear a problem with Gmail. I used backup for root users to get all my apps back, but it left a couple out - leaving me in the same situation you guys are in - can't install/uninstall from the market as the buttons are greyed out, but it's not actually on your phone.
i eventually stumbled over a solution of sorts when i reverted back to a themeless 4.2.5 - for me flashing the update again sorted out my market data and allowed me to install the missing apps again. either that, or go into a nandroided backup, extract the apks and manually push them to your current setup - buttons are magically no longer greyed out.
Thanks guys.
Thanks for your guys assistance.
I found another solution that worked. I had one of my coworkers download Astro File browser and then the Toggle settings app. I just backed up his toggle settings with the built in apps manager in Astro and then put his memory card in my phone and restored toggle settings with Astro. Then I went to the market and uninstalled toggle settings through the market and bingo no more ghost of Toggle settings problem. Thanks again for your assistance.

Market

When I attempted to update my market I failed, now every time I try and open the app it force closes.
Is there any way I could revert back to the old market?
Much appreciated in advance.
I've been having the same problems too. Any help would be good.
Search function
search for vending.apk to use the seach function is not that hard
When you find the vending.apk, before you install it, go into settings --> applications, choose Market, and clear its cache. Then, using a root-enabled file browser, delete vending.apk from /system/app, then reboot and then you should be able to install your new vending.apk. System apps have to be deleted like this most of the time in order to be uninstalled/reinstalled. Good luck

Thanks for the help but I just installed a different rom and stuck with the old market.
Having a new market doesn't really matter too much to me anyway, i just thought it would look nice.

[Q] New Android Market crashing, unable to install old one

Hi Everyone,
Looking for help for an issue, I installed the new android market and was messing around with Titanium Backup (forgot to backup the app, dumb me!) anyway I tried to uninstall the new market to go back to the old one but when I did this the market app is gone from the manage apps area. My phone is a N1, running 2.3.4 and rooted, this what I have tried:
- Install the old market manually from a downloaded vending.apk, not working crashes to .com.android.vending every time
- After this I went to look in the /system/app folder for vending.apk and the app is not there, neither I am unable to copy the app using Droid Explorer or Root explorer, it says it is coping the app but is not there
- Re-install gingerbread update again to see if it gets the app back, did not work, still not in system/app folder
Does anyone know why I am unable to copy the vending.apk to the system/app folder? the phone is rooted but still can-t
Thanks!
If you're having problems with root permissions, try using ROM Manager to fix permissions. Another possibility could be busybox, so I recommend installing the version with Titanium backup (under the Problems? section of the menu).
Updating the market can be tricky, but I always find wiping data from Google Services Framework and (use app manager) Market (easier to use Titanium), and rebooting helps. Make sure you reboot before trying to use the Market...
I didn-t know about the Fix Permissions feature of ROM manager, I tried it and it work, I can now place the file on the system/app folder.
Thanks a lot!

[Q] File Installation

I have a Galaxy Tablet with rooted VZW 2.3.5. I have installed certain .apk's (Google Finance for example) in the /system/app folder with no problem. Other files, such as Opera Mobile, will display an icon but will force close if I open the file. If I install Opera normally. then it will work until the device reboots. I would like to add Opera as a system app in case a factory reset is required. Am I missing a step?
http://www.opera.com/mobile/download/versions/
see here the lastes official opera mobile release.
of course you can copy the app to /system/app if the app doesn´t work.
Thank you for replying. I have a copy of the .apk for Opera and I put it into the correct directory. It is also in the app list afterwards. The problem is that it acts like it is going to open, then it immediately force closes. I have several apps installed this way and those apps work properly.
