[Q] Permanent Locale Change re 2.3 - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks. I've searched the forum and can't find anything that specifically addresses this particular issue.
I bought my SGS I9000 unlocked in Egypt (yes, I was recently evacuated) with 2.1 and have updated via KIES to 2.2. My phone is rooted and has the Arabic firmware.
My currently installed versions are:
PDA: I9000JPJPG
Phone: I9000JXJPE
CSC: I9000JPJPF
I don't want the Arabic Firmware and want to permanently change to a US firmware BEFORE 2.3 is released and I want to retain the KIES upgrade capability. My question is this: How do I change the permanent location of my phone so all future KIES upgrades will be automatic? Thanks.

Just curious, why do you want to retain KIEs upgrade capability in the first place?

Well basically I jusy want to retain my apps (I know about and have AppBrain) and I want the phone to be as though it was bought here.

kerne l version 2.6.29
[email protected] #2

[Q] Want to update froyo on baseband I9000DDJG4

I am the new user of SGS..
I have phone with Eclair 2.1 and baseband I9000DDJG4..
I want to upgrade it to Froyo 2.2, how can I upgrade it?
Please help me.
I'm little messed up with what this baseband means?
Hi Rahul,
Still samsung have not yet released the Froyo update to indian galaxy S, by next week you can update using Kies. Baseband is nothing to do with fryo update.
You can use Registr Hack to update to froyo 2.2, if you are going to update it go for JPA, its fast and smooth.
1) Change the following registry keys
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Samsung\Kies\DeviceDB\1]
"SoftwareRevision"="I9000XXJF3/I9000OXAJF3/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3"
"ProductCode"="GT-I9000HKDXEU" <--- There you have to put your Product Code. I used for example European Countries Code
"HIDSWVER"=""
"DEVCONINFO"=""
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Samsung\Kies\]
"LocalVer"="1.5.3.10103.100"
This is very good one### its fast one
Nordic Countries: GT-I9000HKDXEE --> PDA:JPA / PHONE:JPP / CSC: JP4
Only editing these registry will allow me to upgrade the firmware? Will it cause any problem?
What are registry edits for JPA firmware? Can I use the same you've given above?

[Q] Galaxy form Germany with T-mobile; how to un-brand and change country code?

Hello everybody!
A couple of weeks ago I bought a galaxy s from Germany with T-Mobile customization.
With Kies I updated it at 2.2 Froyo. This is the outcome:
PDA: I9000BOJPB
PHONE: I9000BOJP3
CSC: I9000GDTMJP6
Build Info: 2010. 11
As I live in Italy and my provider is Vodafone, I would like to get rid of the T-Mobile customization and possibly change the country code....
Can anyone suggest me how to make it possible?
Thanks in advance
Best regards
Fosco
Safest way to use Kies Patcher and Kies
The easiest way, as I understand is to to use Kies Patcher to 'tell' Kies that you want the generic stock ROM for your region and let Kies do the rest through a reflash.
Did you tried?
Hi,
I have the same phone and specs exactly.
Did you tried the patch method?

samsung galaxy s 2.2.1 to 2.3.3 whit kies?

hello,
i saw on tweakers.net that the update for the samsung galaxy s is avaleble.
i got now version 2.2.1 i want to update it to 2.3.3 when i start kies and i connect my phone. it dosnt say there is a update. i saw on the internet that it isnt avaleble in the netherlands. how long i need to wait till i can update my galaxy? i can i do it now. i only want the original updates and no custom roms.
xorium
You will just have to be patient. It was released but then taken down, so just got to wait.
Samsung temporarily pulled the update due to unspecified "issues" so who knows how long you will have to wait.
I'd just download and flash the official update with Odin but that's up to you.
What if I install Galaxy S Gingerbread ROM (XXXJVK) and later I want to update it through Kies with the last version that will be further published by Samsung? Would that be possible or I would need to perform any kind of 'rollback' before update it?
Also, is there an official Galaxy S ROM for 2.3.3 ?
Thank you. New here.

\Kies will only update original firmware .
You will need to roll back to a later firmware and spoof Kies to believe its your original rom to get update .
Also, is there an official Galaxy S ROM for 2.3.3 use JVK or later from samfirmware .

Thanks, JJE.
Hum, not sure now. It seems too much work

[Q] Do I have stock firmware installed?

Hi guys,
After messing around with kernels and getting a non responding P1000, I managed to install from Samfirmware, what i believe is stock Gingerbread (Europe).
Everything looks and works fine, but I just want some reassurance that I've downloaded/installed it correctly.
My system details are:
PDA: P1000XXJQ1
PHONE: P1000XXJPZ
CSC: P1000OXAJQ1
Firmware version: 2.3.3
Baseband version: P1000XXJPZ
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XXJQ1
The only reason I want reassurance is when I connect the tab to Kies, the message "this version cannot be updated" displays.
Is it the fact that this is the latest firmware, and therefore no more updates is available?
Thank you in advance and would be much appreciated and reassuring to get an answer for all you kind people.
If you have a tab that was bought throughg a specific carrier then Kies might not be able to update the firmware.
I have a GTab from Telstra in Australia and using the stock firmware I also get this message. All flashing must be done by either ODIN or HEIMDALL. CWM works so long as I don't need to restock anything....
If you do decide to change roms, make sure you check to see if the bootloaders aren't locked as some of the firmware from samfirmware were found to be resulting in problems...
Cheers...
I had exactly the same message from Kies when I tried to revert back to a stock Gingerbread rom. It seems that there isn't an official Samsung release of GB for Tab P1000 in the UK (if that's where you are) so it doesn't recognise it.
Only way I could get it to detect an official release was with a Froyo ROM.
The JQ1 was released not to Europe, but to Italy.

Yes that's right. Im in the UK. So from what i understand, only way to fully revert back and install Official gingerbread is by reverting than earlier froyo firmware and then connecting Kies thks way, then have it detect and install the newly released gingerbread?

Hi there, yeah i kinda thought the firmware i installed was the Italian release, as the date in Firmware was May, not July when the.official gingerbread was released.
Yep, that's how I understand it. However I probably will not even bother with Samsungs UK GB release as there are much better 3rd party GB options out there already. I'm running BOCA 1.5 and it is so fast - it dosn't have any Samsung apps or TouchWiz, but I haven't missed them.

Ha! Just found the XDA app, makes posting and browsing on here so much easier.
Yeah i would have thought 3rd party options would be better running as they'll omit all the bloatware that comes with the official release. I was just thinking more about the option for the future should i have any reason at all to revert back to legit stock.
There's so many recommendation on which custom Rom to install, i think I'll have to spend some time going through the forums to understand which one will be best for me.
For now, Im gonna stick with this working GB (albeit Italy release) as for now it works and I've not had any problems with doing what i want out of it.

The lastest gb released isn't UK, its for Orange Spain.
