Why home screen switching isn't as smooth on 2.0+ compared to 1.6 and previous?

Simply as the title suggests, why does it seem every rom of vanilla 2.0 & 2.1 now fail to have such smooth transitioning between home screens as versions 1.5 & 1.6 did?
This question spans across other android devices too. For instance, when I first saw the motorola droid I was a little shocked to see it switch home screens with so much more lag compared to my old G1 running 1.6. Honestly, I'd figure something as simple as that would be somewhat of a selling point to some simple minded consumers and it really confuses me as to why Google kind of dropped it--at least in terms of combating Apple products it seems like Google kind of gave up.
I have just been assuming it was for battery conservation reasons, if so, is there a way to disable this or somehow simply make it smoother in 2.0 & 2.1 like before?
Thanks for any reply. Sorry for any complete unbearable ignorance I'm nothing more than a noob at some of these things still.
The background in android 2.x is now handled by a different applet, before it was part of the Launcher it self (it still is, just a different part of the Launcher rather than both being under the same window manager).
It sucks, specially on the G1. I've never seen a 2.x rom (other than my own) where the flicking from screen to screen is smooth, so maybe retrofitting the old launcher to 2.x would be idea for those not sold into the live wallpapers thing (or maybe we could make our own version of live wallpapers with animated gifs or even some fancy java)

Okay, thanks. Well if one wanted to push the 1.6 launcher into 2.0 or 2.1 what libs or framework would need to be copied?
Well I just answered my own question: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645550&page=80
Except with this one you loose the eclair zoom in effect when you go into an app--I'm guessing that's part of the eclair launcher. I wonder if there's a way to implement that effect into this doughnut launcher.

Looks awesome!
Looks awesome build, you guys don't sleep at all.
Does camera work? was under impression that camera does not work on any Eclair build for Vogue...
are the extra apks in /data/app or /system/app?
Is this nand or classic sd card version?

actually i think it might be. IT says in the port that its based off the latest cmod source. I named it incorrectly.
also i know you like 320x480 also how is it performing with it
or are you doing just QVGA?

i have not tested with wvga. I didnt put the buildhvga.prop in this release so in order to do hvga, you will probably have to change the density in the build prop or use rogue tools maybe. I can add that prop to beta 2.
I cant seem to get the internet to work? Noob question im sure but when i connect to the "modem", it doesnt show any IP info or anything, just says its connected and it doesnt show the 3G symbol up at the top.
was the internet working in windows mobile before you flashed to android
yes yes, I've used plenty of different ROMS before, this is the only one for some reason that i cant use the internet with? like the actual G doesnt pop up :S
hows batt life compared to myns warm donut?
What's the speed like? I used your last build, Incubus, and it was a little sluggish, especially compared to Myn's Warm Eclair. Mostly dialer issues, where it would take 30 seconds sometimes for the dialer to come up (this happened with Myn's Eclair, too). Are the speed issues fixed?
Nice release man
Gonna give this a whirl right now.
Also giving it a whirl...
nice share ....
any choice set operation to 2G,3G and otomatic ?????
What's special about Cyanogenmod?
Hi,
First of all thanks for your work. I am using your SuperLite Eclair RLS5. What's advantage of Cyanogenmod Eclair over what I have? Are you going to make more releases on SuperLite?
Thanks!

[Q] Blured image in OpenCV apps on 2.2.2

I have problem with apps writen with android port of OpenCV. When I use camera preview, I have heavy blurred image which is useless for me (ANPR program). On CM7 rom (android 2.3.4) everything is ok (image is sharp and full of details). Resolution of preview is 640x480 and my app is based on CVCamera example from android OpenCV port. Same thing can be seen in "OpenCV" app from market.
Have you noticed similar thing? Is there any fix for that, other than using unofficial 2.3.4 ?

contacts-messed up view

on my gtab, the default contacts app, when viewing the list of contacts, there is a thick white line running thru many of the names.
I am using Calkulin + Clemsyn Combo Overclock at 1.5 ghz V6
I think it's something to do with Calkulin's ROM. I had the same issue but now am using CM7 and the white bar is gone
I believe this is an issue with the Froyo (2.2.x) Contact app and the resolution... CM7 is Gingerbread which does not have this problem... I'll try to see if something can be done!!

Yes, that what I explained in the OP, just the colors are different. He stopped making the kernel with pre-2.3.3 colors, so I decided to make it on my own and share it.

Thanks I like the colors! I'm using it on the ns4g with the latest nightly

Voodoo profile 1 appears to be the same colour as ogdobbers kernel. This one gives me the other option of more purple in the dark greys. Is that the goal?

The goal of this to me is voodoo profile 1 because I loved the colors before 2.3.3, they were more saturated and vibrant and voodoo fixed the greys.
The colors in ogdobber's kernel look more washed out to me and I don't like messing with the color sliders.

Well done

No it's not that hard if you're good at following directions and need the following :
Linux 64 bit OS
-10 GB of space
-Download about 4 GB of data
-Git hub account
-Some knowledge of using terminal
-The kernel's source code you want to edit has to be up to date on github to compile the latest version.
I can help you if you're interested
